I met NBA Denver Nugget's Forward Michael Porter, Jr. at a rather low point in his life. He had been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease while still in his teens, and by the time we crossed paths he'd had three back surgeries that didn't cure his pain. In fact, in the Summer of 2023 when we came together, he was in a flare so bad he was struggling to walk up the stairs. Thankfully for Mike, he is blessed with an open mind and a curious nature. He knew after surgery #3 that he had to find another way to look at his pain, or risk losing his career. After discovering Dr. Sarno's work, he quickly came across mine. Michael's life has never been the same. He dove into JournalSpeak, boldly and bravely looking at the places he was holding anger, grief, and shame. He examined his childhood, and made profound connections about things like achieving in basketball and his perception of being loved.
