Suze Dowling is the Co-Founder of Gin Lane, where she helped launch over 50 D2C challenger brands like Harry's, Hims, and Sweetgreen. She closed shop and the same founding team started Pattern Brands which now acquires and nourishes brands in the home goods space. Pattern's current portfolio of 7 brands includes Poketo, Onsen, and Letterfolk. So today we talk not only omni-channel, but omni-brand. We obviously touch on brand architecture, how not to lose authenticity when acquiring and marketing a multitude of brands and we discuss the biggest challenges and best tips when it comes to brand building. This is an important episode for any founder (especially if you are running a Shopify-enabled D2C business) as well as for any brand builder and marketer to indulge in since you are able to get the perspective of a founder, a brand-builder, and an investor all in one and the same person and in a very succinct way.
Ted Vadakan and Angie Myung are the co-founders of accessible, whimsical design company Poketo, but when it comes to their own home, they want a clean canvas. Although they focus more on home goods than home design, they've spent a lot of time thinking about how people arrange their living spaces to bring the most joy and productivity: they co-authored the book Creative Spaces, featuring beautiful photographs and interviews with artists about how they've designed their homes and workspaces. They joined Leah to dig into the idea of home, and why having a place that expresses who you are – and leaves room for who you will become – is so important. This month, we're celebrating Valentine's Day by speaking to couples who inspire us by building strong partnerships - partners in life, partners in business, and partners in their community. We sat down with Angie Myung and Ted Vadakan, a husband-and-wife team who have artfully mastered the feat of finding their tribe through their brand Poketo. The name Poketo (pronounced "poh-keh-toe") stems from the mispronunciation of "pocket" by Angie's grandmother. It tied in perfectly with the first product ever created under Poketo: a series of artist wallets that fit right in your pocket—and Ted and Angie just loved the way it sounded.Poketo has worked with brands and companies like Nike, MTV, Disney, Target, Nordstrom and MailChimp, museums like MOCA, the Guggenheim, the de Young, and SFMOMA, and has collaborated with over 200 international artists, creating exclusive products that reflect its philosophy of "Art for Your Every day."Ted and Angie are a great example of two partners who set the tone for their business. Poketo is all about collaboration, community, and partnership - something that is ingrained in their personal lives and amazing love story. They gave us a lot to keep in mind:Find your community and keep them closePlay to the strengths of your partnershipStop worrying so much about your business’ competition and instead, focus your energy on collaboration and staying ahead of the gameGuestsTed Vadakan and Angie Myung from Poketo- https://www.poketo.com/ResourcesMaslow's Hierarchy of Needs- https://www.simplypsychology.org/maslow.html

Ted Vadakan sits down with Austin-based artist and illustrator Will Bryant (Will Bryant Studio) and the LINE Hotel's own podcast producer and host Jack Inslee (Full Service Radio) to talk about creating space and making place for collaboration, and building a successful design business. Poketo's new book CREATIVE SPACES celebrates independent designers and gives readers a peek into their respective journeys, workspaces, and homes. Powered and distributed by Simplecast.
We speak to Ted Vadakan who co-founded LA art-and-design brand Poketo along with Angie Myung. He talks about their new book ‘Creative Spaces’.
Ted Vadakan, with his wife Angie Myung, has created a lifestyle brand based in Los Angeles called Poketo. I won’t give away their story of how it started, because Ted covers that so beautifully in our conversation, but I will say that Poketo came from their desire to nourish other creatives in their community. What started as a small brand carrying a few artist-made products is now a thriving creative hub with four storefronts in the LA area. We also talk about their new book called Creative Spaces, which is available now. The Show Notes and links for all my episodes can be found at https://suzanneredmond.com/my-podcast/list-of-artists/
From the founders of Poketo, CREATIVE SPACES is not just an interiors book but a celebration of creatives, their work, and their spaces. With stunning photography, intimate profiles, and unexpected takeaways, the book showcases an eclectic mix of creatives in the spaces that inspire them. We sat down with Ted Vadakan, co-founder of Poketo, in advance of the book release for a special interview at the LINE LA.
