Send a textThe show floor is buzzing, but we carve out a quiet corner to trade notes with Will from Bowman Gear—a maker who turns fabric and stubborn ideas into gear that actually solves trail problems. From the first cut to the final stitch, Will walks us through two and a half months of prep for the Hamilton Adventure Expo, including a two-week, all-in push and a smart shop setup that brought his family into the flow. This isn't factory talk; it's real-world craft where every seam has a reason and every pocket earns its place. We dig into the Rio—a compact, water-resistant bag that shifts roles from waist pack to battle bag—and the Sentry, a field wallet that keeps first aid or wire kits tidy. Then we go practical: how a Tortuga pack becomes better with a stretch pocket for fast bottle grabs; how a clean sheath can tame an axe and saw; why a soot-proof stove bag still needs to glide instead of snag. The theme is modular design and user-centred thinking: reduce friction, speed access, and keep weight honest. Will shares how custom one-offs often become patterns ready for others, turning single problems into shared solutions. The origin story lands close to home. A handed-down sewing machine led to repairs, then to the thrill of shaping fabric into durable tools. Friends pushed him to sell, the trail pushed him to refine, and now backpacks are the goalpost—complex, rewarding, and central to how a trip feels on your shoulders. We round out with trip plans that chase ice-out windows and slip in before bug season, swapping notes on routes, crowd timing, and why early spring rewards those who plan. If you care about small-batch manufacturing, smart pack design, and building gear that makes travel cleaner and calmer, you'll feel right at home here.If you enjoyed this conversation, follow the show, share it with a friend who loves handmade gear, and leave a quick review so more campers can find us.www.bowmangear.cahttps://www.instagram.com/bowman_gear/https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100091512043406Support the showCONNECT WITH US AT SUPER GOOD CAMPING:Support the podcast & buy super cool SWAG: https://store.skgroupinc.com/super_good_camping/shop/homeEMAIL: hi@supergoodcamping.comWEBSITE: www.supergoodcamping.comYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqFDJbFJyJ5Y-NHhFseENsQINSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/super_good_camping/TWITTER: https://twitter.com/SuperGoodCampinFACEBOOK GROUP: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SuperGoodCamping/TIKTOK: https://www.tiktok.com/@supergoodcamping Support the show

On this week's show we crosstrain with the NBA, the PWHL, the WNBA, and cats. We tell you exactly what you need to win for a share of the pre-arbitration bonus pool and Pottymouth makes a case for a similar pay equity system for public servants. As both of your hosts are public servants, we support this idea. We cannot share the top secret formula, however, because, well, top secret. Our boyfriends this week are from the Twins and the Nats. Pottymouth was swayed by love at first sight, and Patti took inspiration from last week's interview guest, Clara Rice.

Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to Episode 25, another of our top ten lists with a special guest. This time was us getting Mark's good friend Austin onto the show to discuss the Top Ten Best Games We Don't Play Anymore. It's a fun topic for people who've played as many games for as long as we have to break down. We hope that you have as good of a time with us as we had recording it. This is also an episode where, yes, we are dedicating it entirely to older games but honestly it's to remind ourselves of good memories as well as maybe intrigue you in some games you may have never heard of or just haven't gotten to try. We played them all to where we're done with them, but that certainly doesn't mean that you wouldn't enjoy them. If you do try any of them out, let us know! This is another moment of how long it's been since we recorded as well - this episode is coming out in September and I believe this was recorded back in May. The choices are all still valid, but the weird timeline jumps if you're listening to this back to back with Episode 24 is real. Regardless! Thanks for joining us on this final episode of Season One and we'll catch you on the start of Season Two on October 7th! --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro / How Do We Know Our Guest 00:02:24 - List Selection Criteria 00:04:26 - Scott's 10 (Ticket to Ride) 00:06:23 - Austin's 10 (Star Wars Rebellion) 00:07:28 - Mark's 10 (Modern Art) 00:09:52 - Scott's 9 (Mysterium) 00:11:40 - Austin's 9 (Ra) 00:12:53 - Mark's 9 (Dead Men Tell No Tales) 00:15:03 - Scott's 8 (Atmosfear) 00:16:57 - Austin's 8 (Power Grid) 00:19:31 - Mark's 8 (Formula D) 00:21:16 - Scott's 7 (Formula D(e)) 00:22:09 - Austin's 7 (Manhattan Project) 00:23:03 - Mark's 7 (Space Base) 00:24:57 - Scott's 6 (HeroQuest) 00:26:41 - Austin's 6 (Anachrony) 00:29:24 - Mark's 6 (Firenze) 00:32:09 - Scott's 5 (X-Men: Under Siege) 00:33:22 - Austin's 5 (Blood Rage) 00:36:00 - Mark's 5 (Quantum) 00:38:23 - Scott's 4 (Marvel Legendary) 00:40:47 - Austin's 4 (Kingdom Builder) 00:43:07 - Mark's 4 (Tortuga 2199) 00:45:34 - Scott's 3 (Talisman) 00:50:12 - Austin's 3 (Rising Sun) 00:53:03 - Mark's 3 (Mafiozoo) 00:55:53 - Scott's 2 (Dead of Winter) 00:59:18 - Austin's 2 (Five Tribes) 01:01:46 - Mark's 2 (Heroclix) 01:04:24 - Scott's 1 (Clue Master Detective) 01:06:19 - Austin's 1 (Food Chain Magnate) 01:09:30 - Mark's 1 (Android: Netrunner) 01:13:00 - Contact Info  01:13:51 - Outro --- Notes! 1) Pub Meeple is an EXCELLENT free resource for the board gaming community for those that want to rank their ... whatever grouping. You can use it for things other than board games, but why would you want to? 2) Wish we had more to discuss about Manhattan Project, but Austin was the only one of the three of us to have played it.  3) The semi abrupt transition from Scott to Austin's number six was due to the dog getting up and barking like mad for a minute or two. We completely lost track of where we were, so we just moved on it seems like! 4) Turns out that Scott and Mark just kinda had a therapy session about Talisman and seemingly invited Austin to it. There was another about ten minutes on the game that got cut out. Austin's reactions were just too good to remove. 5) If you haven't heard it yet, go listen to Austin's story about Roads and Boats in our most recent Odds and Ends Episode: The Channel Update Edition. Eric Adamson, Robotics Executive at Oishii and co-founder of Tortuga AgTech, joins Climate Rising to share how automation and AI are transforming fruit farming. Eric explains how his team designed a strawberry-harvesting robot capable of operating in outdoor tunnels and vertical farms, bringing operational efficiency, labor savings, and climate resilience to high-value crops. He discusses why harvest is the hardest—and most impactful—problem in agriculture to automate, what it took to move from lab demo to field-scale deployment, and how they integrated custom robotics and 17 on-device AI models to achieve 97% picking accuracy. Eric also shares his climate thesis on why controlled environments reduce emissions, waste, and chemical use, and how UV-powered robots and environmental buffering help adapt to floods, fungi, and labor volatility. Our last episode on second editions of the games Santorini and Tortuga 1667 reminded me about another second edition of a family favorite game that's out now: Parks designed by Henry Audubon and published by Keymaster Games. We covered the first edition of Parks way back on episode 7 of the podcast, and I thought I would reshare that episode here on the podcast feed in honor of the new edition of Parks. In this episode, I'm changing things up a bit and recommending a great board game for couples: Parks by Keymaster Games.I'm a big fan of the US National Parks, ever since I took my kids out west on what we called the Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Tour. We saw the largest of each: we went whale-watching off the coast of San Francisco, we saw redwoods and sequoias in California, and we visited the Grand Canyon in Arizona. We visited three National Parks during that trip—Grand Canyon, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia—and each of them provided amazing sights and experiences. The board game Parks, designed by Henry Audubon, does a great job of capturing the beauty and wonder of the US National Parks. It is the prettiest game I own, with stunning artwork from the Fifty-Nine Parks Print Series. In the game, you take on the role of hikers, exploring the great outdoors and visiting as many National Parks as you can.We have two special guests in this episode. My wife Emily stops by for some color commentary and thoughts on why she enjoys playing Parks. Also, Matt Aiken from Keymaster Games joins us to talk about the origin of the game and why he thinks it's a great game for couples and to tell some stories of people playing PARKS in the great outdoors.See my photos of Parks, First Edition.Learn more about Parks, Second Edition.Order a First Player Token coffee mug.Visit the First Player Token website.Join the FPT Facebook group.Follow @firstplayertoken on Bluesky.Join the Family Tabletop Community on Discord.Music:“Open Road,” “Sunbeam,” and “Summer in Paradise,” https://www.purple-planet.com/.Send us a text

In this episode, we go back to the island in second editions of podcast favorites Santorini and Tortuga 1667! Santorini: Pantheon Edition takes the original Santorini and its “Golden Fleece” expansion and presents them in a new package with revised rules and upgraded components. The teenager and I have been playing it regularly since we got it, and we are loving it. When I heard about Tortuga 1667: Deluxe Edition, I was excited at the prospect of upgraded components for the game, but I was a little worried when I heard that there would be revised rules. The original game is so, so good, it was hard to imagine how they would improve it, but they did!In this episode, I discuss what's new in each of these games and what I appreciate about the changes. Kudos to Roxley Games and Facade Games for these quality second editions of some of our favorite games! Links:Pre-order Santorini: Pantheon Edition from Roxley Games.Buy Tortuga 1667: Deluxe Edition from Facade Games.Order a First Player Token coffee mug.Visit the First Player Token website.Join the FPT Facebook group.Follow @firstplayertoken on Bluesky.Join the Family Tabletop Community on Discord.Music:"Open Road," "The Concept" by Purple Planet. The pirates that exist in our imagination are not just any pirates. Violent sea-raiding has occurred in most parts of the world throughout history, but our popular stereotype of pirates has been defined by one historical moment: the period from the 1660s to the 1730s, the so-called "golden age of piracy." The Caribbean and American colonies of Britain, France, Spain, and the Netherlands—where piracy surged across these decades—are the main theater for buccaneering, but this is a global story. From London, Paris, and Amsterdam to Curaçao, Port Royal, Tortuga, and Charleston, from Ireland and the Mediterranean to Madagascar and India, from the Arabian Gulf to the Pacific Ocean. Familiar characters like Drake, Morgan, Blackbeard, Bonny and Read, Henry Every, and Captain Kidd all feature here, but so too will the less well-known figures from the history of piracy, their crew-members, shipmates, and their confederates ashore; the men and women whose transatlantic lives were bound up with the rise and fall of piracy. To explore this story is today's guest, Richard Blakemore, author of “Enemies of All: The Rise and Fall of the Golden Age of Piracy.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
