Aujourd'hui dans Place des Fêtes, il va être question de douceure, de langueure même. In dieser Podcast-Folge reden Chrizzlix und Tophoo über die Geschichte und Hintergründe zu ihrem Album "Portamento" und wie es dazu kam, ein Album in einer Zeit zu veröffentlichen, wo Single-Releases mittlerweile überwiegen. Deshalb sprechen wir auch über die Entwicklung vom Album- zum Single-Release und warum es zu dieser Entwicklung kam. Zudem reden wir darüber, wie sich die beiden überhaupt kennengelernt haben und wie ihre Kollaboration zustande kam. Des Weiteren haben wir darüber geredet, warum heutzutage überhaupt so viele Künstler kollaborieren und gemeinsam Tracks releasen. Wir sprechen darüber, was der Unterschied überhaupt ist zwischen einem Album und einer EP, ob es ebenfalls Unterschiede in der Promotion gibt und wie man ein Release überhaupt richtig promotet. Zu guter letzt kam noch die Frage auf, wie wichtig ein großes Label wie Spin Twist oder Blue Tunes Records heutzutage für Newcomer eigentlich wirklich sind.

Marie sat down with historical cellist, Claire-Lise Démettre, to talk about Romantic-period string playing and techniques. They discuss Claire-Lise's cello and set-up, what it feels like to play gut strings, portamento, different kinds of vibrato – and those special moments that don't require anything from the player, when the music is just beautiful enough on it's own. You'll hear excerpts from the Trio recording that begin the episode and are interspersed through the musical conversation. The Brahms Mini-Series corresponds to the recent release of a new CD of the Brahms Works for Clarinet and Piano with Marie Ross (clarinet), Petra Somlai (piano), and Claire-Lise Démettre (cello). It is available on the Centaur Records label (CRC 3760).

Portamento started our Spring series of concerts with a delightful programme where the flame and exhilaration of romance meets the anguish of unrequited love as reflected in Schubert’s magnificent Fantasie in F minor D940. Being one of his most important piano works for 4 hands and dedicated to his student Karoline Esterhazy, it was written just a few months before he died. This dramatic work is contrasted with Debussy’s evocative Petite Suite, then Rachmaninoff’s Valse from Moments Musicaux Op. 11, and concludes with Grieg’s bright and joyous lyric piece Wedding Day at Troldhaugen Op. 65 no. 6 – the ultimate culmination of courting and romance having been written as a memorial of the 25th wedding anniversary of Grieg and his wife Nina.
