Travel Gluten Free Podcast Episode 94 Mike and Cam from the Celiac Project Talk Gluten Free Travel and Chicago Restaurants In this episode, we get into another gluten-free podcast with Mike and Cam from the Celiac Project. The duo talk about their journey to their diagnosis of Celiac disease, how they met, Mike’s Celiac Project Documentary and their strong bond of friendship. We also dive into how Cam trained his dog to smell gluten, the different types of dogs that are good “scent dogs” and the type of training he put his dog Lacey through to be a gluten-sniffing assist canine. We also chat about the recent FDA label changes, how relaxing the labeling can affect those with Celiac and Cam and Mike’s favorite gluten-free vacations and Chicago restaurants! The Celiac Project Podcast In The Celiac Project Podcast, Michael Frolichstein talks about celiac disease and navigating a gluten-free lifestyle with fellow celiac, Cam Weiner. Join us every Wednesday as we delve into many topics, current events, and special guests in the celiac and gluten-free community. We welcome your comments and suggestions for new show topics. The Celiac Project Documentary The inspiration for this film came after director Michael Frolichstein struggled with a series of "mystery ailments" before finally being diagnosed with Celiac Disease at age 40. Michael was shocked to learn that this auto-immune disease, which affects 1% of the US population, is 83% undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. His journey to meet others who had suffered, as well as to get answers from experts, led him to uncover more mysteries within his own family. The documentary ultimately explores what we can do individually and as a society to advance the conversation and raise awareness about the disease. Guest Bio Following a lifetime of dismissive doctors, unexplained symptoms, and emotional stress, filmmaker Michael Frolichstein received a life-changing diagnosis at the age of 40—celiac disease. Camera in hand, Frolichstein set out unaware of the odyssey before him. The result is “The Celiac Project,” a powerful, first-of-its-kind documentary; its goal is to raise awareness about celiac disease. The documentary is currently rolling out on different Public Television stations nationally. Soon after completing the film, Michael met Cam Weiner at a screening of his film. Cam related to Michael’s story, as his own health issues and subsequent diagnosis with celiac disease forced him to pause his budding film career. The two forged a secure connection and a shared mission of raising awareness. Together, they launched a weekly podcast in January of 2016 to discuss and highlight issues and topics relevant to the celiac and gluten-free community. There are over 225 episodes to date, covering a myriad of fascinating topics and special guests. Let's be frank. The world looks a lot different now than it did a month ago - much less back in December when this episode was recorded. On the one hand, it can feel a little disorienting to hear a conversation from a time when our thoughts and habits were in another place entirely. On the other, it can also be a reminder of normalcy. So, on that note, we'd like you to join us as we revisit a time when we were looking forward. We can chuckle together at the plans we made. (What's the old saying? "When mortals make plans, the gods laugh.") Points of interest include: Donation vs. consignment, Garrison's special project, not just another brewery, the people you surround yourself with, client shopping surprises - and much more. Be safe out there!
1-54 London 3 - 6 October 2019 Special Project London 2019: Thread, Senegal Artists Silvia Rosi and Annie-Marie Akussah discuss their residency at Thread, Senegal Thread is a cultural centre and artist's residency program in Sinthian, a remote village in eastern Senegal near the Gambia River and the border with Mali. It enables artists from around the world to advance their work in an exceptional setting and serves as platform for people from throughout the Tambacounda region to share their own stories with a wide audience that extends internationally. Besides being an uplifting space in which artists work, the Thread space serves the local people as a base for educational pursuits, while simultaneously serving the local population by retaining rainwater and thus creating a viable source for 40% of the village's domestic water needs. Thread's presentation highlights the work of two young London-based artists: photographer Silvia Rosi and painter Annie-Marie Akussah who explore ideas around identity and migration, subjects that are linked to their own West African heritage. At Thread, they have each, in different ways, taken a closer look at more and less visible cultural archives in the Tambacounda region. www.thread-senegal.org www.aflk.org Image: © Katrina Sorrentino www.1-54.com
1-54 London 3 - 6 October 2019 Special Project London: Water Life – Aïda Muluneh on Art and Advocacy Artist Aïda Muluneh discussing her exhibition Water Life with Renée Mussai (Senior Curator and Head of Archive & Research, Autograph ABP). Engaging in issues of water scarcity and ecological emergency, photographer Aïda Muluneh presents a new series of work commissioned by WaterAid and supported by H&M Foundation. The Afrofuturist tableaux of images were shot against the extreme backdrop of one of the driest places on earth, Dallol, in the Afar District of Ethiopia. Reflecting on her travels across the country, Muluneh looks at the number of women who travel on foot carrying heavy containers of water. Each image in this body of work responds to the challenge of water access, exploring it as a social issue directly impacting rural regions and the development of whole communities. www.wateraid.org www.hmfoundation.com Image: © Katrina Sorrentino www.1-54.com

This week, John is just back from his holiday trip, and Merlin thinks he's a *titan*. Merlin's daughter wants to be a monk, and the art of AD&D is discussed. John has more questions about Merlin's Britishisms. We are introduced to "Hello, Richard" and the flats of San Francisco are re-litigated. The taxonomy of the Google doc is also re-litigated. Although it won't turn into one-third of every episode, listeners are invited to ask your hosts questions via "`#AskRecDiffs`". In what becomes a mini-topic, your hosts fantasize about **Break Time**, and what one does when one has a little time to oneself. Sleeping counts. Also, where, again have all the scissors gone? Have we just stopped doing Inside Voice? A listener thinks there's too much talk about TV, but it is stipulated that TV is part of our lives. In further follow-up, your hosts talk more about _Survivor_. John says Merlin is still watching it wrong, and John finished Season 37. He has thoughts. _Survivor_ rules, tactics, and editing are considered. Then, there's more **Project Talk**. Merlin introduces the idea of "The Message Gift," and John wonders if Merlin's new desk has memory. Amazon should let you say when a box is from Santa. So much cardboard. And, now the IKEA child's kitchen is in danger of being disappeared. John is just slightly rearranging things, and Merlin's door still wants to kill him. (_Recorded on Tuesday, January 1st, 2019._)

On this episode, Project: Talk sees the sun rise on its one year anniversary. To celebrate, I asked my good friend Ruben, the first guest and inspiration for the show, to reprise an appearance. We talked about philosophy, Pinocchio, whether fish exist or not, and how cartoons from the 90's/early 2000's can still make us emotional. With a new year also comes a new intro song, courtesy of my good friend with the endless talent Seth Hammock. On this episode, I turned the award-winning formula for Project: Talk on its head by giving my guests time to prep and research the topic of conversation: art! We opened the windows, whipped up Megan's version of a margarita (tequila with a whisper of lime and Triple sec), and waxed poetic about some of my favorite pieces of art. Welcome back to Artsits Loving Artists! This week I had the honor of recording with Chris Willis and Nate Mackey from Wrtierdie.net! The fellas and I had been trying to get together to merge once again, and finally fell into synchronized timing and harmony to talk about one thing we all have dealt with: Breaking Up. Entitled the Breakup Catalog, the guys and I sat down at St. Elmo brewery to go through a list of songs we held (or hold) near and dear to our hearts throughout particular breakups we've experienced or rather that carried empathy for us in our time of needs like The Postal Service, Bright Eyes, Ryan Adams, and more. I love talking with these guys, and can always count on emotional and intelligent conversations every time we cross paths. Check out their Website and Podcast on "WriterDie.net" as well as Nate's own Podcast entitled "Project Talk" over on iTunes. Have a great week!
