How We Seeez It! Episode 284 Braveheart (1995)   “It's all for nothing if you don't have freedom.” William Wallace. 30 years ago we got this epic movie that won best picture and best director for Mel Gibson. Many loved the movie and many had issues with the lack of historical truths. Either way we have a lot to talk about on this one.  We cover our thoughts on it in this episode. So join us for the discussion and don't forget about our cocktails for this episode.         As always, mix a drink, have a listen, and let us know what you think. Or if there is something you watched that we might enjoy or a can't miss series. Also please rate and review show on all your favorite podcast apps.  Though kilts, cassis, and cordial Franco-Scottish relations were not present at the Battle of Stirling Bridge (nor, for that matter, the bridge), the emotional truths herein are deemed accurate by popular consensus. Timeline variances should be consumed responsibly. Drinks for the episode: “Clash of the Tartans” (alternate cocktail names - The Noble Anacronist, The Prima Noctail) 1 oz Peated Scotch 1 oz Irish Whiskey ½ oz Crème de Cassis ½ oz Fresh lemon juice ¼ oz Orgeat syrup 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters Slàinte — for freedom, not facts   “Stephen's island” 2 oz Irish Whiskey 2 oz Amaretto  2 oz Irish Cream (salted Caramel) 4 oz cold brew coffee (Caramel)     Show links: HWSI LinkTree HWSI Facebook Link HWSI Instagram Link HWSI Youtube link !! It took many years of wondering and wandering to arrive at this conclusion. It does seem, says our DJ, that life is a series of moments, each asking us, will we be-come from Love or Fear? Looking around this life and place and time, it also does seem that much of everything wants to nudge us towards fear. This is strange, considering there is so much within us that wants to Love, naturally and effortlessly. He continued to wonder, "how is this so?" "Information" was the answer. Information can move us towards either direction. Stories... information packaged in highly palatable forms, are a powerful format for delivering movement towards Love or Fear. Having finally arrived at these hard-won conclusions, our DJ Miguel Benveniste and his alter-ego, Michael Gurevich, set out on a lifetime quest to assist people in loving themselves enough to allow themselves to express their Selves freely. I Love Your Stories was born. ILYS, like eye-less, is for clearing our inner-channels so that Love can flow through, straight from The Source itself. It began with writing, and now continues into other expressive realms. The Source of Love remains One. The expressions of it... so very, very many. This, above all else, is what DJ Miguel Benveniste wishes for you with this very special musical story created exclusively, and with great Love, for Schirmchendrink. Amaretto Milk, this silky, sweet embrace, blissfully marries the subtle almond nuttiness of Amaretto with the velvety texture of chilled milk. To celebrate 3Q3D's third anniversary, the original crew regroups and recreates the show's very first episode down to the exact same questions. While Amanda, Chris and Matt are certainly more comfortable on air, they begin to question nearly everything (including *gasp* backing into every parking space) and end up lamenting democracy writ large. While the questions from Episode 1 return, the drinks are decidely better this go round: the team brings back a few favorite cocktails from 3Q3D's quixotic 3-year journey, including the Old Cuban, a perfect Old Fashioned, and, fittingly, the Birthday Cake Martini. Cheers to 3 years, and thanks to all who have listened!   Drinks in this Episode:The Old Cuban Cocktail  >> 6 whole mint leaves, 1 oz simple syrup, 3/4 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed, 1 1/2 oz aged rum, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, 2 ounces Champagne, chilled. Garnish: mint sprig. Muddle the mint leaves with the simple syrup and lime juice in a shaker. Add the rum and bitters and ice, and shake until well-chilled. Double-strain into a coupe glass.Top with Champagne and garnish with a mint sprig. Salud, amigo!  Old Fashioned Cocktail >> 2 oz bourbon, 1/4 oz simple syrup, a few dashes of angostura bitters. Pour ingredients into a bourbon glass over one large ice cube, garnish with a Luxardo cherry and an orange peel. Like an old friend – or a podcast for inquisitive people – this cocktail won't let you down.  Birthday Cake Martini >> 2 oz Smirnoff whipped cream vodka, 1 ½ oz Amaretto liqueur, 1 oz Godiva white chocolate liqueur, 2 oz heavy whipping cream; mix ingredients with ice in a shaker, strain, and pour into a martini glass. Garnish with birthday cake sprinkles. There are some truly terrifying Christmas/winter characters out there. Many may have heard of Krampus, a German partner of St. Nick who punishes poorly behaved children, but what about Peruchty, a winter witch who likes to disembowel naughty children? Santa, also, may fall into these terrifying categories, although in less severe ways. Lumps of coal in stocking, running naughty and nice list, even Jolly St. Nick has taken on the role of scaring children into behaving well with threats. This year, we gathered to talk about some of these characters and the way in which they have been shaped by and, in turn shape, imaginations in Christian understanding. It's not all scary, though, we also talk about a Christmas tradition from Catalonia where a log poops out Christmas treats, so there's something for everyone! We had a special guest for this recording, Amanda's puppy, Luna, who greatly enjoyed chewing on our chairs throughout the episode, providing much joy and additional noise while we chatted. We hope you enjoy this conversation and that you have a blessed Christmastime. Here's a recipe if you'd like to mix one for yourself. We used some local spirits in our version with Amaretto from Sons of Vancouver Distillery and Triple Sec from Copperpenny Distilling Co. Hayride to Hell is about how a small town farmer exacts his bloody revenge on unscrupulous town folk who try to steal his land. It's director by Dan Lantz, who I got to interview, written by Kristina Chadwick and Robert Lange, and stars Bill Moseley (The Devil's Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses), Kane Hodder (Jason Vorhees himself from many Friday the 13th films and Victor Crowley from the Hatchet franchise), and Graham Wolfe. This is a fun and campy horror film that I really enjoyed as part of Screamfest this year. Please go check it out at your local theater. Hayride to Hell Cocktail: Ingredients 1/2 ounce (or 1 oz if you use syrup) Amaretto 1/2 ounce pumpkin vodka or 1 ounce pumpkin spice syrup 1 shot espresso 4 ounces of steamed milk (or cold milk if you use ice) Directions Combine all ingredients in a coffee mug and top with fresh whipped cream. Sprinkle with pumpkin spice and serve hot or over ice. Hayride to Hell Drinking Game: Drink when... Bud says, "Now that's what I'm talking about." Karen does a "Karenism". Nixler does a goofy look. As always, drink responsibly and with friends. Share the podcast with others. Follow/Subscribe on your favorite streaming platform, leave me a five star review. Hey there fellow true crime enthusiasts! Pour yourself a drink, and join us as we talk about America's most famous female serial killer that most haven't heard of. Her son noticed that everybody Velma Barfield got close to seemed to die. Is it possible that she was responsible for their deaths? If so, what was the motivation? And are there more victims in Raleigh, NC they can tie to her? We will discuss this and much more while once again struggling to say Raleigh correctly.  And, to sweeten the deal, we'll be trying Amaretto from Oak City Amaretto located in the same city we can't seem to pronounce.Follow Us On All The ThingsFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/bloodandbarrelsInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/bloodandbarrelsTwitter - https://twitter.com/bloodbarrelspodSupport Us – Rate & ReviewIf you enjoy the show, one of the best ways you can show your support, which is completely free, is to rate and review us on your favorite podcast platform.Apple Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/blood-barrels/id1574380306Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/57j8QbqAz8mdzjqaYXK2I1?si=f51295c1576d4bcbSee More About Us & Find Blood & Barrels MerchWebsite - https://bloodandbarrels.comMerch - https://bloodandbarrels.com/merch#!/allJoin The Family!Join the Blood & Barrels Patreon family for exclusive content and perks starting at $1/month.Support the show

While Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola's “The Godfather” continue to enjoy critical acclaim more than 50 years after its release, the same can't be said for its namesake cocktail. But just because the disco-era mix of Amaretto and Scotch was traditionally cloying and unbalanced, doesn't mean it isn't worthy of a 21st-century upgrade. Joining us to teach us how to do so is John Ware, bar director of New York City's Forsythia. Leave the gun, take the cannoli, and listen on (or read below) to discover the Forsythia Godfather recipe — and don't forget to like, review and subscribe! John Ware's Forsythia Godfather Recipe Ingredients - 1 ¼ ounces blended scotch, such as Speyburn - ¼ ounce smoky whisky, such as Puni Alba Malt - ⅔ ounce amaretto, such as Disaronno or Luxardo Amaretto di Saschira - ¼ ounce Ostinato Secco Dry Marsala - ½ teaspoon honey syrup (2:1) - 1 teaspoon Reisetbauer Hazelnut eau de vie - 4 drops of saline solution (5:1) Directions 1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. 2. Stir until cold and strain into a chilled rocks glass with a large rock of ice. 3. Garnish with a brioche pastry (filled with Chantilly pastry creme, topped with powdered sugar) and Cantucci (almond biscotti) on the side plate. Hosted on Acast. In this day and age, you hear all the time...I DESERVE a high value man/woman. I DESERVE a raise. I DESERVE to be respected. I DESERVE, I DESERVE, I DESERVE!!! There seems to be a ton of external expectations but is there justification for that inflated internal worth? Are these desires disguised as needs serving as a detriment to personal growth and development? Coach and Doc have a great discussion about uncovering the root of why you feel you deserve and hopefully help create an unselfish mindset of how to serve instead.   Sip of the Day: Citrus Amaretto Bourbon - 1oz. bourbon, 2oz. From there we get right down to it with this week's guest Bob Pernice (but not until Becker stops talking about himself) and the very big track he brought along with him. This episode has a little of everything: tasty treats, a dramatic novel tell-all, and a trip down Suntrup memory lane.   The gals start the episode by unraveling a childhood Easter tradition—one that was both colorful and time consuming. They also introduce a new segment: Pending, where they reveal the last three transactions they made on their debit/credit card. So, which sister put her money toward modest purchases like cups and shorts, while the other dropped a whopping $180 on a bathing suit? The hosts also try out Amaretto brownies, a (dare we say vintage) recipe from the 90's. Plus, these brownies have an even sweeter component: Kelly's mother-in-law found this recipe when she was very pregnant with Kelly's now husband. Turns out, eating dessert before dinner isn't off limits on The Carpool. Liz shares her 4-ingredient dinner hit: chicken fajitas. Just don't be surprised when your tribe becomes a simp for this recipe. The gals close one chapter and open another—literally-- at the end of this episode. They recap the fictional romance novel ‘It Ends with Us' by Colleen Hoover--a swirling tornado of love, deceit, and family trauma. Talk about a page turner! Today's show is sponsored by Keenz.
