Rain Dove grew up with a birth certificate that listed gender as "F." For much of their life, they imagined that "F" stood for "Failure" to be properly "Female." Today Rain is a gender-bending model who walks runways for designers of both masculine- and feminine-coded clothing. Rain is also an activist working to make the world better for people of all genders, orientations, and more. Rain is currently assisting vulnerable people to escape Ukraine. What if gender is not just about genitals, but what we want from the world? In this episode, Rain explains what Gender Capitalism means and shares personal stories about how relationship dynamics and power can be fluid and chosen too. Rain is 32 years old and white. You'll hear that Rain speaks differently than many people because Rain eschews most types of categorization. When I asked what their gender identity is and what pronouns they use, they said, "I am I. You can call me with whatever language feels comfortable, but the most respectful thing is to just calm by my name." When I asked what their sexual orientation is, they said, "I love who I love. I lust who I lust, and I fuck who I fuck consensually." Their preferred relationship dynamic is open and communicative and tailored to the people who are in it at the time. Rain is partnered, grew up in a Christian home, and describes their body as tall and moderately muscular. Hey guys -- it's me. Jesse. (Singal.)I think I instigated some confusion this week. My thought process was Well, this isn't a new episode to patrons, so I'm not going to drop it in the premium feed. Then a lot of people were confused as to why they weren't seeing a new episode this week, and I couldn't tell whether there was a genuine technical issue or people were responding to not seeing an episode in their premium feeds. I remain confused -- even more so than usual. ANYWAY. Here's this week's episode. It's a rerun. I probably should have just stuck it in here to keep everything simple and clear and continuous. If there was ever a real-life superpower, conflict resolution might be one. Rain Dove (@raindovemodel) shares an interaction that they had with a concerned mother. This woman was asked by her daughter for a chest binder, which she took to mean that her daughter wanted to be a boy and hates her body. She directs her anger over this to Dove.
It's the SEASON 2 FINALE people! Not only has it zipped by, but we added on TWO MORE EPISODES from season 1 for your pleasure. Don't say we don't treat you well. And are we finishing this round with a bang or what?! (we are, yes) We have an extraordinary, golden guest for you to see us out. Welcome Rain Dove Dubilewski. You'll likely know them better by face than by voice, but that's soon to change… Rain Dove was the first model EVER to be in both male and female magazine covers at the same time and have been using their hefty social media platform (350K+ followers on IG) to defy gender norms and raise awareness about social issues including women's rights and mental health. Rain is an open-minded, self-aware, funny interviewee who is open and giving with their unusual, moving life story and their hopes for society. You're going to get a lot out of it. PROMISE. Rain joins us to talk about the impact of growing up whilst fitting into the aesthetic expected from women despite the F on their birth certificate. It wasn't until working as a firefighter in an all-male team who thought Rain was a man, that they realised they were able to present both as male and as female. Living as a man during this time allowed them a sneak peek into what they thought would be a bed of toxic masculinity. What they learnt there would change how they understood the power dynamics at play when it comes to the currency of emotion. You ought to know that when Rain is presenting as either male or female or simply themselves, they are absolutely drop dead gorgeous. We talk about the benefits and drawbacks of presenting as either gender, and what being a ‘a Gender Capitalist' really means. Rain tells us about their often harrowing experiences of using male and female bathrooms and why unisex toilets are in fact the safest loo option for everyone. What struck me most about her story is how despite having Trump supporting parents and leaving home at 18 to save face for the family after coming out, they believe in empathy with the people who most ostracise them. Their message of acceptance and kindness is paramount and is quite frankly, inspirational. Rain is making a mockumentary series Queers Without Fears developed entirely by the queer community. It's a fun sci-fi venture which seeks to readdress the balance of highly sexed and violent portrayals of queer folk that presides in film and TV and it's out in December! They are also releasing a mockumentary in response to Piers Morgan's insistence that if you can choose your pronoun, then he chooses to identify as a penguin. It's going to be very funny but with an undoubtedly important message about love and kindness at its heart.Enjoy and we'll see you next year with more terrific guests and topics on pleasure and the body for Series 3. You can watch Rain's TedX talk on Gender Capitalism hereCW: misgendering and violenceWe would love to continue the conversation and hear from you, our listeners: email us at hello@thepleasurepodcast.com or tweet us @ThePleasurePod. *Social Media:Rain Dove @raindovemodelNaomi Sheldon:

Attention: The conversation with Rain will be in English.
The term patriarchy now seems entirely invented by feminists to pretend it's men, not women, who are tearing down women. You know how men love to judge, gossip, and snipe about how women look or act or parent. Those patriarchal men can't help but be catty. While women want nothing more than to support each other in a female driven Utopia. That's the dream. If you can dream it. Or the lie, if you like the truth. On this week's Last Men on Earth Podcast, we explore how Natalie Portman bikini-boob shaming Jessica Simpson for her teen bikini music videos in the 1990's is a prime example of women can never truly unify, discuss the cupcakes at Columbia University who turned the mic off on comedian Nimesh Patel because he told a racy joke, Matt reveal how his deep detective work into Rain Dove's gender attack claim led him to going on a mini-golf date with the androgynous sort of model, and we wonder why the NFL and football fans make a big deal about the dudes caught on video beating up their ladies, while not particularly caring much for all the dudes doing the same not caught on video. You gotta love football. That's not ironic. In our Patreon subscriber bonus segment this week, we get into porn. More specifically, how Tumblr is now removing porn from its site which is basically a porn site because nobody can have fun anymore on the official advertiser friendly Internet. And that sucks. Not that you can't still find amazing porn online, but that you can't run an ad-based business online that isn't G-rated and PC to the hilt. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Terri talks to Fran Dunaway of TomboyX about how she and her partner and wife Naomi Gonzalez started TomboyX in 2014 to create a better shirt and ended up launching an underwear company. Fran and Naomi recently raised a Series A and Fran shares their journey to this point and where she sees TomboyX going in the next few years. Who is Fran Dunaway? Fran likes to call herself the accidental entrepreneur. In 2013, she had a great life as partner in a media strategies firm with big budgets, lots of vacation time, regular exercise, and excellent sleep habits. She and her wife, Naomi Gonzalez, started a little side business because they wanted some cool button-down shirts like a Robert Graham for women. They picked the name TomboyX because they thought it was cute. When the name started resonating with women and girls around the world, they knew they had an instant brand. It turns out that the word 'tomboy' opens the door to a conversation about being whoever it is you want to be. Women were SO elated to have a brand that saw them for who they are at their core. So, when customers started begging for TomboyX to design the first boxer briefs for women, Fran and Naomi obliged. In September 2014, they pre-sold two styles of boxer briefs designed for women and sold out in two weeks. They have never looked back. TomboyX has since refocused solely into the underwear/loungewear market and is thriving on the fact that people of all shapes and sizes want to be part of a brand that stands for values they share. Their customers continually prove that there is a toughness required to express your individuality – the defining characteristics of a tomboy. Show Highlights Fran shares the story behind TomboyX and the evolution of the TomboyX brand Fran continues to talk about how difficult it has been to raise funds to fund the business and what it’s like to run out of inventory as an apparel brand. Terri and Fran about the shifting landscape for female founders and the economic opportunity in investing in these founders. Fran explains how she went from a job in corporate to being a founder and focusing on TomboyX 100% Fran talks about how she and Naomi have evolved as founders and leaders and the evolution of their team as the company as grown and matured Terri asks Fran about how she sees the company evolve over the next few years If Fran could wave a magic wand, she would change the lens with which we see each other; to be less judgmental of each other and to have greater clarity as to who we are as individuals. Fran’s favorite founder resources are Loose Threads (podcast), Leap Frog (the book) and founders stories in general. Terri’s Key Takeaway Money is power and to shift the power dynamic, we need to shift the economic dynamic. After working in high end showrooms and freelance event planning, Dara made the full time leap to PR through an unusual path. Building on her degree in Creative Writing and an internship with a top level PR firm, she was able produce rapid results in the face of a would be crisis in March 2010, when a young woman went missing. Utilizing social media, she created what quickly became a viral twitter campaign and caught the attention of mainstream press, including The New York Daily News, New York Post and CNN, all within a single weekend. Shortly after, she was recruited to join an avant garde event planning/public relations firm, creating public relations campaigns for the monthly events, which regularly garnered 300+ attendees, included nationally recognized brands as sponsors, and were covered by such publications as Time Out NY, Village Voice, Paper Mag and more. In 2011, she was approached by several interested potential clients to found her own public relations firm, Fascinate Media. The agency took off quickly, and Dara found herself immediately working with prominent names in the entertainment and fashion business, such as Franchesca Ramsey and Rain Dove, as well individuals from other industries. Each client is unique and no matter a client's size, she will work closely with you to ensure you get the best quality representation.
