We had the privilege of working with a family composed of both natural and adopted children. It was a very interesting experience to see the unique family dynamics. While discussing the educational program of the older children, a tiny girl barely a half meter tall came carrying a Bible that could have outweighed her. What Christmas story did your mom or dad read to you when you were a child? Something happens in a child’s heart when you read stories together. But something also happens in an adult’s heart. We’ll talk about that phenomenon and hear a new story that details how a little girl encountered the different names of Jesus. Don’t miss the conversation on Chris Fabry Live. Wycliffe

This week's minisode is an in-depth discussion of ONLY the title story from Ted Chiang's new collection, Exhalation (https://amzn.to/2RlWfVY). The story "Exhalation" is available for free online at Lightspeed magazine (http://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fiction/exhalation/), so we thought we'd start with this to whet everyone's appetite, and give new readers a chance to read something by Chiang to decide whether you want to pick up the full book. We dig apart Matt's experience of re-reading this story (something he rarely does), discuss the meaty themes the story presents, and offer a few other stories about the process of science. It's a fun short episode, and we hope you enjoy it & stick around for next week's full dissection of all the other stories in the collection. --- We'd love to hear from you, either by chatting with us on twitter at @spectologypod, sending us an email at spectologypod@gmail.com, or submitting the episode to r/printSF on reddit. We'll reply, and shout you out in the next podcast when we talk about your comment. And if you like the episode, subscribe at spectology.com or whever you listen to podcasts, and share it with your friends! Many thanks to Dubby J and Noah Bradley for doing our music and art.

Almost….nobody! Our culture focuses on feminist concerns, the wage gap myth, girls’ health, and so on. Boys and boyhood are simply not interesting or valuable enough for the elites to talk about. Dr. Anthony Esolen had enough. So he wrote a fine book, Defending Boyhood, which lays out the problem, provides some historical context along with tons of examples from novels and movies. The need to support and defend boyhood is urgent and (if you have eyes to see) obvious. In this episode you will learn Why there is no perfect “golden age” where things were perfect but the principles and values of boyhood were much healthier The effect of the failed Sexual Revolution on the world of boys Why boys are in special need of rituals of self-discovery in ways girls are not The connection between absent or abusive fathers and the homosexual impulse How contraception disrupted the relationship between men and women, and hence the family, and how this affected our perception of boys (and children in general) Why boys love to sing if the songs tell manly tales How to survive in a culture bereft of institutions and clubs devoted to the care and growth of boys qua boys. I have been recording my voice for an audio book. I am starting with the more recent book, Stories from The Messengers. It is slightly shorter and I hope to have it available before summer. It is slow going and its taking longer than I expected. The results have been good, and I am working hard to make it sound professional. This is a high quality 192 Kbits/sec file.
