This week we're discussing the social utility of dark teen shows by looking at shows like Euphoria (HBO), 13 Reasons Why (Netflix), Cruel Summer (Hulu), The WildS (Prime Video )and the movie The Fallout (HBO Max) to name a few. Is there a purpose in the depiction of heavy subject matter as it relates to teens or do these shows take it too far? Listen as we share our thoughts with our special guest, Daeyna. We hope you enjoy! Music: Humblux - S.H.E. Cali Greens - Artillery (Extended Clip) 8, 14, and 18 --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/assume-it-will-be-brillant/support

We are back with lots to talk about. So we definitely do not dive in to some of these like usual, but hopefully you get the gist. First Dhani starts by talking about the movie Late Night (Amazon Prime). Then John joins in to discuss Godzilla: King of the Monsters. This was a fun back and forth! Then Dhani talks about the new RomCom Falling Inn Love (Netflix) and the documentary Untouchable (Hulu). Moving on to TV, Dhani talks about season 3 of 13 Reasons Why (Netflix) and she does not recommend it. Then season 1 of Four Weddings and a Funeral (Hulu) is a light comedy that she had some issues with and John helps her to figure them out. Next Dhani talks about her favorite show on TV, the 4th season of Queen Sugar (OWN). Everyone should be watching this show. Finally, Dhani wraps it up with the new show Unbelievable (Netflix). Highly recommended. Finally, in the Actors' Corner, Dhani and John discuss Emma Thompson and her work that they love, like, hate, secretly love, and haven't seen.

13 Reasons Why, a teenage drama centered around a suicide and it's direct effect on the community and the high school in that community, created huge opinions around the nation about it's portrayal of suicide & intervention, or lack thereof. Ryan and Mike dissect and explain what's going on in the show, while informing what to look for in real life when someone is considering taking their own life. Mike tends to have very strong opinions about this particular TV Series, and it takes Ryan's years of experience as a Therapist to really shed an impartial light on a very graphic depiction. I hope you enjoy the video and please share, comment and join the conversation this month on mental health and mental illness. Thank you. What is "31 Videos For Mental Health"? It's a mental health and mental illness awareness campaign I started in 2014. I will create 31 videos in the month of May (Mental Health Awareness Month) to promote mental health awareness and get a conversation started about mental illness. Every day this month you can expect a video on this channel on the topic of mental health or mental illness. How does mental illness relate to you? I was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder when I was 12-years-old and developed an anxiety disorder as I grew up that took me to the hospital three times. Mental illness is something that has dictated my life since I was a young and I was afraid to talk about it. What can I do to help? The most important thing this month is getting a conversation started about mental health, share these videos with friends and family, share them on your social media pages, get a conversation started about mental health and mental illness. This episode of the Shrink 2 Shrink on Film podcast brings you Part 1 of our view of the subject matter of the new Netflix Original Series "13 Reasons Why". "13 Reasons Why" has stirred up a lot of controversy. In the first moments, we discover that the main character, Hannah, has killed herself and left behind 13 cassette tapes, each naming and blaming a specific person for their contribution to her emotional state which led to her suicide. This series not only deals with the sad situation of teen suicide, but it also delves into painful situations of blame, bullying, sexual harassment and rape. In Part 1 of this 2-part podcast, Courtney and Colleen take on the topics of teen suicide, survivors of suicide, blame and the grieving process. Watch for Part 2 in which we take on the topics of date rape (or acquaintance rape), bullying and the tunnel vision of teenage perceptions.
