Geoff Cox, better known as “Coxy”, is a star of radio and television, and former drummer in The Bootleg Family, Avalanche and Little River Band. His life in the entertainment industry started out playing drums six nights a week in Rock and Roll Bands, fast becoming one of the top session drummers in Australia, playing on 20+ gold albums. During the 70's Coxy toured the world with the likes of Russell Morris, the Bee Gees, and Cliff Richard. He also played in Las Vegas for several international artists throughout his career. From 1979 until 1987 Coxy ran The Roxy, an iconic Rock and Roll pub in Melbourne. The catchcry “Coxy from the Roxy” in his raspy, Aussie voice on radio ads became legendary. One of his earliest TV appearances was on Countdown, in a short documentary which led viewers through the process of making Australian Crawl's music single, "Beautiful People". Coxy later went on to become a presenter himself on Channel 9's Postcards, and Coxy's Big Break on Channel 7. Coxy's radio career started on the Smithy and Cox Show on 3DB, before he joined forces with our very own Gavin Wood for the Gavin and Coxy Breakfast Show on 3TT and TTFM. He then went on to host Juke Box Saturday nights with Coxy on 3MP for the next decade and he can still be heard on ads, as a guest, or giving interviews.

Meet Russell Morris, one of Australia's must enduring, most talented and most beloved singer, songwriters. From his pop stardom in the '60s to pioneering singer-songwriter, Russell has shaped the country's musical landscape for over seven decades. We explore the origins of his iconic hit, "The Real Thing," and the unconventional journey that led him to pursue a solo career. Discover the role Ian Meldrum played in transforming a six-and-a-half-minute epic into a chart-topping sensation, defying industry norms. Russell shares anecdotes from his early days, revealing the supportive environment that fuelled his passion for music. From his unconventional start to becoming an Australian rock legend, this episode is a journey through the highs and lows of a remarkable career. Starting as a pop sensation in the '60s, Russell faced a tough road ahead when his early hits didn't translate into lasting success. Undeterred, he explored different genres and even went MIA for a while. Fast forward to the '70s, and Russell makes a surprising comeback with the iconic "The Real Thing." He shares the wild story behind the creation of the song, involving an LSD trip and a makeshift studio in a houseboat. The success of "The Real Thing" catapults him back into the limelight, marking a pivotal moment in his career. But it wasn't all smooth sailing. Russell opens up about the challenges of dealing with record labels, the music industry, and the highs and lows of fame. Our chat delves into the nitty-gritty of Russell's artistic evolution, from pop to blues, and the unexpected twists that kept his career vibrant. In a nutshell, it's a rollercoaster tale of a music legend who faced setbacks, embraced change, and ultimately found his groove, creating a legacy that spans decades. At times, feeling like an old has-been, Russell yearned to create something current. After an album's failure, he faced the reality that people just weren't interested anymore. Undeterred, he looked in the mirror, realizing he couldn't sing pop songs as an old fart. So, he decided to return to his roots, exploring rhythm and blues, Tamla Motown, and Blues. His Blues journey took an unexpected turn when he stumbled upon a 1918 police file photo of Thomas Archer, aka Shark Jaws. Inspired, he turned Archer's story into the blues hit "Shark Mouth," which marked the resurrection of his career. His subsequent albums, like "Van Diemens Land" and "Red Dirt, Red Heart," defied industry expectations, blending blues and country. Despite initial skepticism, these albums went on to become chart-toppers. Russell's bluesy revival continued with "Black and Blue Heart" in 2019, a pop-rock collaboration with Bernard Fanning and Nick Didier. He even joined forces with Rick Springfield, creating an album under the pseudonym Jack Chrome. Fast forward to the present, and Russell Morris is still pushing boundaries. His latest release, "The Real Thing, The Symphonic Concert," features him performing with a 54-piece symphony orchestra. The idea, born from an encounter with businessman Clive Palmer, turned out to be a massive success, selling out venues across the country. Russell's story is one of determination and resolve. A tale of belief in yourself and never giving up your passion. He is an icon in Australia and loved by all. You may or may not know his name. You may or may not know his music but, by the time you've listened to this episode, I guarantee you will not forget him. I hope you enjoy this episode. Carving out a career as a rock/pop vocalist she began her professional career in a trio called The Chiffons. Interview by Kris PetersKevin Borich - guitar wizard, singer-songwriter, founder of the Party Boys, The La De Das, and the Kevin Borich Express - has been entertaining audiences worldwide since 1969.His vocal prowess and extraordinary guitar playing skills have captivated generations of music followers, with countless albums bearing the trademark Borich musical timestamp still on high rotation today. After releasing his greatest hits album Legacy in 2022, Borich went off in search of another musical milestone, and one which had been gradually taking shape over a number of years. That record is the recently released Duets, which features artists of the caliber of Russell Morris, Leo Sayer, Suze DeMarchi (Baby Animals), Joe Walsh (Eagles), Ian Moss (Cold Chisel), Tim Rogers (You Am I), Ella Hooper (Killing Heidi), Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo), Joe Camilleri (Black Sorrows), Ross Wilson (Daddy Cool/Mondo Rock), Angela Fabian and John Swan (Swanee/Party Boys). It is a labour of love that saw Borich writing, demoing and recording everywhere from in the tour bus to hotel rooms, to green rooms to professional studios and also saw him collaborate with a widely eclectic assortment of fellow musicians that has come together beautifully for what could well be the defining moment of a long and illustrious career.Borich sat down with HEAVY earlier in the week to talk Duets and plenty more."It's been amazing," he stressed about the early reception for Duets. "It actually has charted too, which is something I haven't really had since 1979 (laughs). It got to #1 on the ARIA Blues and Jazz charts and the word is out so the reviews we are having and feedback is pretty amazing. There's so many diverse styles on the album. It's a smorgasboard of fuel for you to eat up and your brain to wonder how the hell that happened (laughs). There's a bit of jazz in there that I wrote about Amy Winehouse because I thought she was going off the rails and left us with blues. She took all her colours and died."In the full interview, Kevin talks about some of the songs on Duets and what they are about, the writing and recording process, the guest artists and how they were chosen, where the idea came from for the album, who dared to say no, his personal feelings on the album, if he would do it again in the future and more.

With a unique approach to the guitar, Adam Miller's music is groovy and approachable, whilst having a melodic sophistication that only comes from years of cross genre hopping. His inclusion of complex rhythms and dissonant haunting phrases, combined with breathtaking riffs and melodies are his signature. His jazz influenced style with finger-picking mastery creates a improvisation filled live performance that is beautifully unpredictable. This has seen him share stages with Les Paul, Tommy Emmanuel, Matt Schofield, Russell Morris, Charlie Hunter, Adam Levy, Ariel Posen, Tony McManus, Ben Gillies (Silverchair), and more!I hope you all enjoy this episode as much as I did! Episode 019: To Be Nineteen Again The Who - Our Love Was (UK 1967) One of the most famous exports from the UK who are more known for their bombastic 70's anthems, Pete Towsend and co spearheaded the mod sound and broadcast it to the world with their debut anthem "My Generation".  Their lone psychedelic effort "Sell Out" yielded gems such as this one, a tale of a love once stale that is now revived and soaring.  The Gibsons - City Life (Australia 1967) A snooty mod pop big city anthem with an inexplicable feline inspired middle eight by an little known outfit from Australia that relocated to the UK.  They released a handful of singles during their brief two year career. The Tony Hendrik 5 - Said My Say (Germany 1968) Quintessential freakbeat by this obscure band from Cologne, Germany that features a prolific singer-songwriter and producer at the helm.  They released one album and many singles during their career, all of which are worth investigating. The Creation - Midway Down (UK 1968) The UK's finest mod art combo and an unsung influence on many a guitar hero, this 1968 single - a cover of an even more obscure US psych act John Wonderling - catches the band winding down before their eventual demise.  This vivid single was the closest the band would get to psychedelia and is one of the last they'd record and release.   The Loot - Baby Come Closer (UK 1967) The sound and feel of this song captures the mood of the mod love song like no other.  A stomping beat and catchy riff lead way to a too cool to care vocal that still oozes a desire for his love's affection. The band would release stellar examples of the genre during their brief two year career.Spooky Tooth - Do Right People (UK 1968) A non-album b-side that shows just how serious this band's chops were, the Spooky's definitely took a page from Traffic's sound and turned it up a notch on this one.  One part bass and organ driven soul stomper and one part proto-prog mind melter, this is a perfect example of a band showing off it's roots while showing us a vision of the future.State of Micky and Tommy - With Love From 1 to 5  (UK 1967) A truly classic mod pop anthem by this clever duo and a song that deserved to be a hit worldwide.  This unsung duo only released two singles in their time, but both of such high quality that they are known as staples of the era and are often compiled.Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera - Flames (UK 1967) Freakbeat in the truest sense in that this is essentially a turned up and blown out version of a Motown riff.  The classic eighth note bass notes that kick it off is an instant nod to their influences before launching the sound into the stratosphere.  The band's two albums are essential listening. The Twilights - Cathy Come Home (Australia 1967) One of the most prolific and successful bands from down under, this proto-powerpop number displays the wonderful songwriting and harmonies of this tight unit  Somebody's Image - Hide and Seek (Australia 1968) Another obscure Australian band that only released three singles during their time - of which this pop-sike beauty is their last - and featured a young Russell Morris who would go on to solo fame. The Consortium - The Day the Train Never Came (UK 1969) A shortened version of UK pop group The West Coast Consortium, this band released a handful of singles through the late 60's and early 70's that featured a pristine harmony pop sound as evidenced here.  The half time middle break is truly a stand out moment in an already magical genre. The Cedars - For Your Information (Lebanon 1968) Lebanon's prime freakbeat export that combined their native sound with the burgeoning UK freakbeat/pop-sike sound to great effect.

Peter Coad describes himself as a "Painter of Landscape"“Peter spent the first 10 years of his life in the Mallee town of Karoonda approximately 120kms south-east of Adelaide, South Australia, where he was surrounded by huge, infinite and vast landscape. This explains his connection with wide-open spaces and the vibrant colours that nature presents, and which have an immense influence on his work. For subject matter he makes regular artistic journeys to many destinations in Australia and overseas, where he chooses locations that he can mindfully connect to and which have a strong spiritual and indigenous history. The cultural understanding and knowledge gained of each place clearly assists in his capturing the essence and feeling of the land in his paintings.”http://www.petercoadart.com.au/Peter Coad's artwork can be purchased at the Artworx Gallery at Goolwa"Peter's paintings reveal to us landscapes of harsh yet breathtaking beauty as he skilfully blends symbolic interpretations of mountains, wetlands, vegetation and bird life in an endeavour to convey an awareness of the delicate balance of the environment." https://www.artworxgallery.com.au/Artworx Gallery and Gifts is one of the leading contemporary Art Galleries on South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula.Artworx Gallery & Gifts opened in October 2005 in the historic river port of Goolwa, 80 kilometres south of South Australia's capital city of Adelaide. Within months of opening, it had established itself as a must-see venue and within a year was being hailed as the finest contemporary gallery on the Fleurieu. Its success has been confirmed by the SA Great organisation and the Southern Alexandrina Business Association, who have both made special Awards to Artworx in recognition of the gallery's contribution to the local arts scene and local artists.Exhibiting are highly talented, award winning artists from around the country works including original paintings, jewellery, wood, metal, sculptures and gifts.  Artworx Gallery and Gifts is located in the centre of Goolwa's heritage precinct, in an 1850s stone cottage and warehouse near the town's restaurants, hotels and historic wharf and railway station, where paddle steamers and steam trains rule. With five rooms plus a courtyard, there is plenty for viewing and contemplating. Works can be shipped throughout Australia and overseas.Artworx Gallery and Gifts is an experience!  Go and Enjoy!  https://www.facebook.com/artworxgallerygoolwa/ “It was a pleasure to chat with Peter Coad about his career as an artist.  So many stories and connections with art in all it's different forms including his painting practice, working on an Australian Film “The Tracker” working with an Australian musician Russell Morris and so much more.  It was a lot of fun and I thank Peter for his generosity of time to share his stories with us. Peter's paintings to me have a peaceful spiritual connection to the earth and makes you want to look into the paintings and in your mind immerse yourself into the beauty and splendour of the landscapes of our earth .” Tania Ingerson Podcaster/Founder TEA The Entrepreneurial Artist Podcast I would like to acknowledge that music played on my Podcast is an original tune by David Innocente, Jazz Musician/Artisthttps://www.innocente.com.au/
