Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking!Back in Season 1, we talked at length about Warren Zevon, one of the great American songwriters and one of our idols.  So, this year Warren Zevon has been inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, along with Bad Company and Cyndi Lauper, and we thought that was a perfect excuse to close the loop on our coverage of his career.  It's all here – his later career, final album, appearances on Letterman.  We loved doing it, and we know that you will love listening to this one! Our “Album You Must Listen to Before You Die” is John Lennon's 1980 hit, “Imagine”.  As usual with Lennon's solo albums, it's more (and less) than it seems on the face of it, containing some of Lennon's best work along with some filler.  But, hey, it's a strong album and gave Roxy Music their worst-ever cover (FYI - “Jealous Guy”). We also venture into the world of ChatGPT to find out the Best Albums of 1972.  Fairly strong list – Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, Lou Reed and..............................Wishbone Ash!  Who?    References – Globite Travel Bag, Warren Zevon, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, “The Wind”, Zach Starkey, The Who, Bad Company, Paul Rodgers, Cyndi Lauper, Jordon Zevon, CHAT GPT, 1972, Letterman, alcoholism, Rolling Stone magazine, Jann Wenner, Zevon Live in Australia, The Bridge Hotel, St Mary's Band Club, The Hilton Sydney, Little River Band, Linda Ronstadt, pleural mesothelioma, Enjoy Every Sandwich, “Sentimental Hygiene”, Neil Young, “Detox Mansion”, “Splendid Isolation”, “Heartache Spoken Here”, “Searching For a Heart”, “The Indifference of Heaven”, Life'll Kill Ya, My Ride's Here, “Hit Somebody”, Tony Levin, “Basket Case”, Carl Hiassen, “Bad Monkey”, “The Wind”, Crystal Zevon, Springsteen, “Knockin' on Heaven's Door”, Dylan, Grammy Award,  “Keep Me in Your Heart", “Enjoy Every Sandwich”, Jackson Browne, Billy Bob Thornton, David Lindley and Ry Cooder, Pixies, Jorge Calderón  Playlist – Music from the episode Enjoy every sandwich The Wind

This episode was rad. I sat down with Rob Medacco, the Director of Public Safety for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians—a dude who's not only the top cop for the Tribe but also an absolute freakin' beast in the gym. We're talkin' raw strength, discipline, and leadership wrapped into one seriously intense human. We dive into what it's like leading law enforcement on Tribal land, the unique challenges and responsibilities that come with that role, and how his mindset from powerlifting bleeds into everything—from decision making to crisis response. This guy commands respect just by walking into a room—but he's also thoughtful, sharp as hell, and deeply committed to serving his people.Law. Strength. Culture. Discipline. This one hits hard in every direction. This episode was filmed and recorded in the Watson Motors Studio. Watson Motors is a proud sponsor of the show. Interview by Kris PetersFor those uninitiated, Yacht Rock encapsulates the revival of Soft Rock Hits from the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, which has become a worldwide phenomenon, inspiring fans to dress the part and sing along. Yächtley Crëw are not just the ultimate entertainers, but also incredible musicians. The full 7-piece band recreate those smooth 70's and 80's sounds to perfection, including the sax solos of course! And now, for the first time ever, Yachtley Crew is setting sail for Australia for a run of shows this May.The nautical-suited and captain's-hat-clad nautical musicians are proudly flying the flag of Yacht Rock for each and every generation that loves good fun, good times and a good sing-along. With scintillating renditions of songs from Toto, ELO, Steely Dan, Hall & Oats and plenty more, Yachtley Crew are a fun-filled musical extravaganza that combines all of your loves in life on one deck.HEAVY caught up with Philly Ocean to learn how to swim…"We couldn't be more happy," he enthused when asked how he is feeling about finally getting the chance to cross the ocean. "We started back in 2017, and we've been doing this for eight years. We never imagined that something that we did just because we thought it would be fun would now be going international. We started off playing small bars in Southern California and realized pretty on that people love Yacht Rock. By the way, for those of you who have maybe never heard the term, Yacht rock is made up of all your favourite soft rock hits from the late 70s and early 80s. Artists like Kenny Loggins, Little River Band, Christopher Cross, those kinds of sounds make up what we play in our show, and it's the best music. It's so much fun, and it's super nostalgic."In the full interview, Philly talks more about the genesis of Yacht Rock, the balance between enjoying the performance and recreating music that is held in the hearts of many who hear it, their first trip Down Under, what they are expecting, what we can expect from Yachtley Crew, the possibility of adding soft metal tracks to their repertoire and more.Tickets: https://totaltouring.com.au/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Ever wondered what happened to Little River Band's Glenn Shorrock? Do you know which songs Glenn wrote for the band? Or how the original LRB lost their name? Listen in here to find out answers to these and a whole lot of other questions about Australia's most famous band as Glenn Shorrock joins us for an intimate chat. English born Glenn Shorrock is one of the most iconic and influential singer-songwriters to emerge from Australia's rich music scene. Best known as the founding lead vocalist of Little River Band, Glenn's career spans over six decades, marked by global chart success, critically acclaimed albums, and unforgettable live performances. His deep, resonant voice and exceptional songwriting have defined the soundtracks of generations, contributing timeless classics that have shaped the landscape of classic rock and pop. Glenn's family moved to Adelaide in the 50s, where his love for music blossomed. By the early 60s, he co-founded The Twilights, a rock band that became one of Australia's most popular groups. The Twilights achieved national fame then in 69, Glenn co-founded Axiom, often regarded as one of Australia's first ‘supergroups.' Alongside music legend Brian Cadd, Axiom crafted sophisticated, soulful rock with hits like A Little Ray of Sunshine and Arkansas Grass. The band's blend of folk, rock, and pop elements set a new standard for Australian music, earning both critical and commercial success. The mid-70s saw Glenn co-found Little River Band . Combining lush harmonies and rock-driven melodies, LRB became the first Australian band to achieve sustained international success. As the lead vocalist, Glenn was the unmistakable voice behind all of their global hits, including “Reminiscing,” “Help Is on Its Way,” “Lonesome Loser,” “Cool Change,” and “Lady.” Little River Band enjoyed unprecedented success in the US with their sophisticated sound earning them 13 American Top 40 hits between 75 and 83. Shorrock's voice became synonymous with the band's transcontinental appeal. In 82, after some infighting amongst band members, Glenn went solo and has enjoyed considerable success ever since. Throughout the 80s and beyond, Shorrock released a series of solo works, dabbled in musical theatre and collaborated with several of his musical mates. Glenn was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame as part of Little River Band in 2004. Today at 80, Glenn Shorrock still inspires generations of musicians and songwriters and his songs which are often infused with themes of nostalgia, love, and self-reflection, continue to resonate with listeners around the world. Glenn remains a vibrant force in the music scene. He still performs live, delighting fans with renditions of his classic hits while introducing new music that highlights his ever-evolving artistry. His autobiography, Now, Where Was I?, offers an intimate glimpse into his storied life and career, showcasing the ups and downs of a truly remarkable musical journey. Shorrock's longevity in the industry is a testament to his talent, passion, and connection to his fans. His voice remains as captivating as ever, and his influence on rock, pop, and the Australian music legacy is enduring. #glennshorrock #littleriverband #australianrockhistory #1970srockmusic I truly hope you enjoy this episode with Glenn. CTL Script/ Top Stories of July 20th               Publish Date: July 20th                  BREAK: GON :30  From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Award-Winning Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast    Today is Saturday, July 20th and Happy 77th Birthday to musician Carlos Santana. ***07.20.24 – BIRTHDAY – CARLOS SANTANA*** I'm Keith Ippolito and here are the stories Cherokee is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia.  Marker Recognizes Canton's Historic Stumptown Neighborhood Cherokee Approves Property Tax Increase Construction Contract Awarded for Long Swamp Creek Rec Area   We'll have all this and more coming up on the Cherokee Tribune-Ledger Podcast, and if you're looking for Community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe!    BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1: Marker Recognizes Canton's Historic Stumptown Neighborhood    A new historic marker commemorating Canton's Stumptown neighborhood will be unveiled at Burge Park on Crisler Street, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for July 22 at 10 a.m. The initiative, a collaboration between History Cherokee and the city of Canton, was funded by the city and developed by History Cherokee's Black History Committee. Stumptown, established in the 1920s, is one of Cherokee County's oldest predominantly Black communities, named for the tree stumps left under house foundations during its development. The marker aims to highlight the community's historical significance, with plans for more markers in partnership with the city to recognize other historic neighborhoods. Here is Stephanie Joyner on plans for future signage: ***STUMPTOWN 2*** STORY 2: Cherokee Approves Property Tax Increase   Cherokee County commissioners unanimously approved a property tax increase, setting the maintenance and operations millage rate at 5.153 mills, lower than the originally advertised 5.224 mills. This decision will raise property tax revenues by 5.99% over the rollback rate. The county also set the parks bond millage rate at 0.27 and the fire district tax rate at 2.888 mills, resulting in a total rate of 8.311 mills. The increase is intended to fund additional firefighter positions and meet rising costs due to inflation. Residents expressed mixed reactions at public hearings, with some supporting the tax hike for improved services like Bob Alford. ***BOB ALFORD*** Other residents like Liza Robinson raised concerns about rising property taxes and suggested alternative fiscal strategies. ***LIZA ROBINSON*** STORY 3: Construction Contract Awarded for Long Swamp Creek Rec AreaCherokee County commissioners have approved a $2 million construction contract with Magnum Contracting, LLC, for developing the Long Swamp Creek Recreation Area near Ball Ground. The project, located at the confluence of Long Swamp Creek and the Etowah River on 24 acres purchased in 2019, aims to enhance recreational amenities. Planned features include a canoe and kayak launch, outdoor archery range, walking trails, campsites, picnic pavilion, restroom facilities, and parking. The project aligns with the Northeast Cherokee County Parks Plan and received funding from sources including a Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program grant and local contributions. Construction is set to commence soon with an expected opening in early 2025. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info.    Back in a moment  Break: DRAKE – INGLES 2 STORY 4: Cherokee Outdoor YMCA Offering Summer Camps The Cherokee Outdoor YMCA is part of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta's summer day camp program running until August 2nd. Registration is open online or in-person, offering traditional camps focused on social-emotional learning, weekly themes, and various activities like archery and canoe rides. Specialty camps in sports, STEAM, teen leadership, and swimming are also available. The YMCA aims to foster personal growth in a safe environment, encouraging children to explore interests and develop skills. Daily or weekly enrollment options are offered for traditional camps, while specialty camps require weekly sign-ups. For more details and registration, visit ymcaatlanta.org/camp/day-camp. STORY 5: Here's Why Waleska's Water Service Was Interrupted   Recent water system issues in Waleska have been resolved, according to City Clerk and Manager Robyn Smith. The city experienced two interruptions this month due to low water levels in its tanks. The first incident occurred on July 4 due to a computer crash, affecting the Sam Nelson Road and Reinhardt College Parkway areas. A temporary fix was implemented until the computer was rebuilt. A subsequent water main break on July 15, caused by a lightning strike on Fincher Road, led to disruptions in that area. Both incidents triggered boil water advisories, which were lifted promptly after repairs. Currently, normal service has resumed for all customers, with ongoing monitoring of water levels in the tanks. BREAK: HELLER 4 STORY 6: Dock Rock Radio Performing at West Milford Farm   Dock Rock Radio will perform a "yacht rock" concert featuring hits from the 1970s and 1980s at West Milford Farm on July 26. The band will cover songs by Hall & Oates, Huey Lewis & the News, Commodores, Little River Band, Steely Dan, and more, spanning smooth soul, jazz, R&B, and disco genres. Oakley's Provisions will cater the event with entrees priced from $6 to $15, and guests are allowed to bring their own food and drinks, including beer and wine (no onsite alcohol sales). Tickets range from $30 for lawn seating (bring your own chair) to $250 for party barn tables of eight, available through westmilfordfarm.com. The concert begins at 8:45 p.m., with doors opening at 7:15 p.m. STORY 7: When Will Water Tank Road in Cherokee Be Closed? What We Know Starting July 29, a section of Water Tank Road near Canton will close to through traffic until April 18, as crews replace two box culverts. The closure, located between 900 and 960 Water Tank Road, will affect traffic entering and exiting the area. Residents at addresses 900 and lower will use Highway 20, while those at 960 and higher will use East Cherokee Drive. Phase 1 involves addresses 931 and 935, using East Cherokee Drive. A detour via Highway 20 and East Cherokee Drive will be posted, ensuring safety for drivers and construction personnel. For more details, contact the Cherokee County Roadway Capital Program at 678-493-6077. We'll have closing comments after this.    BREAK: GON :60   SIGN OFF –   Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast. Geoff Cox, better known as “Coxy”, is a star of radio and television, and former drummer in The Bootleg Family, Avalanche and Little River Band. His life in the entertainment industry started out playing drums six nights a week in Rock and Roll Bands, fast becoming one of the top session drummers in Australia, playing on 20+ gold albums. During the 70's Coxy toured the world with the likes of Russell Morris, the Bee Gees, and Cliff Richard. He also played in Las Vegas for several international artists throughout his career. From 1979 until 1987 Coxy ran The Roxy, an iconic Rock and Roll pub in Melbourne. The catchcry “Coxy from the Roxy” in his raspy, Aussie voice on radio ads became legendary. One of his earliest TV appearances was on Countdown, in a short documentary which led viewers through the process of making Australian Crawl's music single, "Beautiful People". Coxy later went on to become a presenter himself on Channel 9's Postcards, and Coxy's Big Break on Channel 7. Coxy's radio career started on the Smithy and Cox Show on 3DB, before he joined forces with our very own Gavin Wood for the Gavin and Coxy Breakfast Show on 3TT and TTFM. He then went on to host Juke Box Saturday nights with Coxy on 3MP for the next decade and he can still be heard on ads, as a guest, or giving interviews.

Australia's Little River Band had an uncanny knack for nailing the beautiful Southern California soft rock sound of the 70s and early 80s despite being on the other side of the world. Guitarist Graeham Goble, along with core members Beeb Birtles and Glenn Shorrock were the primary songwriters behind many of the hits like "Reminiscing", "Lonesome Loser", "Cool Change" and dozens of others. Be warned: the current version of LRB that tours and releases albums does NOT contain any original members. Graeham joins us to discuss this, as well as two recent compilations including all the hits and the should-have-been hits that any fan will want to get their hands on, the stories behind the songs, his spiritual life and a ton more. Music doesn't get much more pleasurable than classic LRB!  www.graehamgoble.com www.patreon.com/thehustlepod

"Paradise Blue" The Seattle-based singer/songwriter Steven Cristol has had quite a career. Well, to be more specific, he's had several careers, but today we're going to talk about the musical one. We'll let him tell you his story but a little background is important before we get to the chat. The Georgia-born Cristol's adventure with music and the music industry found him with incredible highs, like getting a phone call from Harry Belafonte about recording one of his songs to some tough lows that he'll explain, but here's the thing about those lows--what made them so hard was that they came disguised as highs. In other words, it looked like smooth sailing, but then the ship capsized. The emotional whiplash an artist gets was detailed perfectly in our chat with actor Michael Charles Roman a few months back when he talked about booking a sitcom only to have his and everyone else's part recast. Well, this is the music side of that story and it's series of suckerpunches. But this chat is about more than that--it's about self belief, self preservation, and never putting art on the backburner for good. I love the story you're about to hear because it demonstrates the power of creativity and the beauty of art. Steven is a fabulous singer/songwriter whose compositions summon everyone from Jackson Browne to James Taylor. He wrote songs for Starship, Little River Band and Belafonte and for good reason--his precision and lyrical agility are effortless skills that should have made him millions and nearly did. Business strategy consultant, career coach, singer/songwriter and former Fortune 50 executive whose previous business books have been published in 11 languages. His latest book is an unorthodox guide to self-employment, written after more than three decades of successfully sustaining independent work. He also writes about solutions to environmental issues for leading media outlets focused on sustainable business practices. www.stevencristol.net www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.embersarts.com www.alexgreenonline.com Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com
