While everyone is focusing on the elections, we thought we should look at something far more important: The Labor Movement. Because when there is a historically hostile presidency to labor, the only thing that will advance the cause of the working class is a strong labor movement. I want to take a look at the history of Anticommunism within the US Labor movement from both inside and outside factors with the knowledge this anticommunism often left the United States' borders and had deep rooted effects that are still present in Labor today.Slater Mill, located on the Blackstone River, still stands in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. This Mill is famous for being the 1793 birthplace of the Industrial Revolution in the United States. I've seen this building countless times and my thoughts on it run the gamut. Mills like Slater, ushered in so much progress but also so much pain. In the struggles of that huge contradiction, workers and their families came together to fight for better lives and were torn apart by the propagandist lies and deceptions, sometimes coming from within, to keep only a handful of mostly white men in power.John Francis Bray, the American labor activist who also spent time in England as a Chairtist, he said“If the word had been in use with us a few years since, then every anti-slavery man would have been denounced as a Communist.”* (Footnote: Gutman, “Tompkins Square ‘Riot'”)As Bray implied, sometimes anticommunism isn't a direct attack on those who push for or call themselves communists. It houses any anti-labor activity and the attacks on the ideologies under the Socialist umbrella including socialism, anarchism and of course communism. Many people believe capitalism doesn't work, however, it works well for the very few,k mainly the top one percent of the population. The system is designed to work in a class system divided into the “haves and have-nots”, and though there have been reforms put in place to create a middle class, these reforms protected the ones who already accumulated a majority of the wealth and created an even larger inequality between the rich and poor.Capitalism is the perfect system for the white supremacists that require a class system to gain power by funneling the wealth off what the workers, who they exploit, make. Whereas, socialism is a system that puts the workers, the major majority of the population, in power giving them control of means of production that they create themselves. This does not serve those in power and they will do anything to keep themselves in power and continue to profit from the fruits of the workers' labor. In order to do this, they deploy tactics that including intimidation, manipulation, deception, outright lies, and even murder. They claim it is actually the “insert name of group that is going against the capitalist here” doing these things to them. The slave owning colonists figured out that they needed to pit the enslaved, poor whites, and the indigenous people against one another so those groups wouldn't turn on them. They offered concessions to the poor whites and put them in positions of “middle management” like being the overseer of enslaved people in a field or offering awards for them to act as a police force that would be used to hunt down escaped slaves which were considered property for the slave owner of course. This was the base and still very much the mindset of our current police force. In these series of episodes and articles, we will look at the red scare and all the tactics used by them. Please read the accompanying This is a public episode. We'll be exploring some of the most haunted locations across the Ocean State, each steeped in mystery, tragedy, and paranormal lore. Prepare to encounter some of the most famous ghosts and restless spirits who still roam the historic streets, cemeteries, and homes of Rhode Island. Featured Locations: The Conjuring House 1677 Round Top Road, Harrisville, RI 02830 The infamous Conjuring House is one of the most well-known haunted houses in the U.S., drawing paranormal investigators and fans of the horror genre from around the world. It remains open for tours and overnight stays, offering a glimpse into its terrifying past. The Breakers Mansion 44 Ochre Point Ave, Newport, RI 02840 While Alice Vanderbilt's ghost has been seen wandering the grand rooms, guests and staff have also experienced the sensation of being watched, particularly near the mansion's grand ballroom. Phantom music, soft whispers, and cold drafts often accompany these encounters, adding to the mansion's haunted allure. The Breakers is open for tours, giving visitors a peek into its Gilded Age splendor—and possibly a brush with the supernatural. Chestnut Hill Cemetery 10 Ten Rod Rd, Exeter, RI 02822 Mercy Brown's tragic story as the "last American vampire" has left a lasting mark on Chestnut Hill Cemetery. This cemetery remains open to the public, drawing curious visitors intrigued by Rhode Island's vampiric past. Slater Mill 67 Roosevelt Ave, Pawtucket, RI 02860 Slater Mill's history of child labor and tragic deaths has led to numerous paranormal sightings. Visitors report hearing the sound of machines turning on by themselves and disembodied voices calling for help. Slater Mill operates as a museum today, where guests can experience its haunted history on both historical and ghost tours. The Graduate Providence (Formerly the Biltmore Hotel) 11 Dorrance St, Providence, RI 02903 The Graduate Providence's dark history is filled with eerie tales, from reports of elevators moving on their own to guests hearing phantom music and footsteps late at night. The ballroom is often filled with the faint sound of old-time music, as if a grand party from the 1920s is still taking place. The hotel remains a luxury destination in the heart of Providence, but its haunted reputation continues to draw those looking for both comfort and a scare. Seaview Terrace 595 Bellevue Ave, Newport, RI 02840 The haunting beauty of Seaview Terrace, also known as Carey Mansion, has been the setting for numerous paranormal sightings. The spirit of Julia Bradley is said to roam the halls, and many report hearing the ghostly strains of an organ playing late at night. The Charles Looff Carousel 700 Bullocks Point Ave, Riverside, RI 02915 Beneath the charming exterior of the Charles Looff Carousel lies a haunted past. Providence City Hall 25 Dorrance St, Providence, RI 02903 Mayor Thomas Doyle's spirit is said to linger at Providence City Hall, where staff have reported seeing his shadowy figure riding the elevator and hearing his footsteps echoing through the halls. The smell of his signature cigar smoke often accompanies these encounters, particularly in the mayor's office. City Hall remains open to the public, with both government workers and visitors intrigued by its ghostly reputation. Colt State Park 114 Hope St, Bristol, RI 02809 Colt State Park's serene beauty hides a darker history tied to its former days as a private estate. Visitors frequently report seeing shadowy figures near the site of the old stables and hearing the faint sound of galloping horses along the trails. Sudden cold spots and the sensation of being watched are common experiences for those who venture near the park's historical sites. Nathanael Greene Homestead 50 Taft St, Coventry, RI 02816 General Nathanael Greene's spirit is said to still wander his homestead, where visitors report hearing phantom footsteps and doors slamming shut on their own. The eerie sensation of being watched is strongest in the upstairs bedrooms, where Greene's presence is said to linger. The original investigator of the Conjuring House and scholar of the arcane, Carl Johnson, returns with his paranormal partner in crime, Elise Carlson! Carl L. Johnson has been investigating reports of strange phenomena for the past 50 years, dating to his association with noted ghost-hunting couple, Ed and Lorraine Warren. As members of Parapsychological Investigatory and Research Organization: R.I.R.O., a research team based at Rhode Island College in Providence, Carl and his identical twin brother Keith were called in to investigate the Perron family's situation in Harrisville, Rhode Island during August and September of 1973. P.I.R.O. notified the Warrens of the Perrons' situation. Forty years later, this inspired a motion picture titled, The Conjuring. In April, 1972, Carl and his brother Keith attended a lecture presented in Rhode Island College, the featured speakers being Ed and Lorraine Warren. That evening, Carl was invited to join P.I.R.O., the on-campus paranormal studies group. Both Carl L. and Keith E. Johnson were featured on the first two seasons of the popular television series, Ghost Hunters, leaving the show after those two years to better pursue their own interests. Carl has numerous other television credits, including Paranormal State on A&E Network, The Haunted on Animal Planet, Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet, A Haunting on Destination America , The Learning Channel and Travel Channel, The Exorcism Prayer: independent documentary by Ryan Cavalline (2016), Walking With Shadows: independent documentary by Mike Ricksecker (2021), Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel, Mysteries Decoded on Travel Channel, and Fright Club on Travel Channel. A recent episode of A Haunting: "Inner Demons" featuring Carl and research partner, Elise Giammarco Carlson, is rated the top episode of all 11 seasons. The Johnson family's home in rural North Scituate, RI was subject to inexplicable happenings, that is to say, haunted! This sparked Carl's profound interest in things considered supernatural. He would participate in spirit board sessions, partnering with his younger sister Cynthia as they experimented in communicating with personalities from the "other side." Specializing as a Demonologist and C'thonicist, the latter indicating one who studies classical, "nether" deities, Carl continues his exploration of the preternatural through the research unit, Panorama Paranormal co-founded with historian Elise Giammarco Carlson. Carl defines demonology as, "A systemized study of the lore and cultural traditions of wicked spirits." He incorporates that system into both academic, and applied demonology. Carl was employed by Old Slater Mill Association for 14 years as Interpreter staff and Programs Development. Built in 1793 Slater Mill is regarded as the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution. The site is rich with history and, it is said, haunting! He is co-author, along with accredited theologian Lana Jan Brock, of, "Shadow Realms Demonology Handbook". Carl is also recognized for his theoretical writing, wherein he expounds on quantum-based hypotheses.
James Annitto is a Deacon of the United States Old Catholic Church and is a Demonologist who has worked alongside many other specialists in this field. James is also a paranormal investigator/researcher of Paranormal Phenomena Research & Investigation (PPRI), Sanctuary Paranormal, and the founder/owner of The Dominion Ministry. He has been in the paranormal field since the early age of 15, investigating graveyards and legendary surroundings in the New England area such as Mercy Brown, Ladd School, USS Salem, and Slater Mill. His knowledge of the paranormal came from reading many books in his early years. Watching Unsolved Mysteries, Scariest Places on Earth and then, eventually, Ghost Hunters increased his interest and knowledge of the field. His first ever experience came when his aunt showing him a ghostly figure peeking out of a window during one of their vacations. With this experience James came to love the paranormal and knew that he wanted to be a part of this field when he got older. Being a teenager of 15, it was difficult for him to become part of a research group let alone start his own, so he travelled to graveyards with his camera and a flashlight until he was able to form his own group years later called Ghost Hunters of Supernatural Truth (G.H.O.S.T.). G.H.O.S.T. consisted of Andre Correia formerly of R.I.P.S who appeared on “The Haunted” episode “Demon Attack,” and other members from different areas of the paranormal field with experience levels of none to a few years. James gained a lot of experience running the team and calling clients/business/homeowners. After being in the field for the last 16 years, James has gained a great deal of experience from working with many well respected members of the paranormal field. He has appeared on many radio and local television shows. He has also given scores of lectures at libraries and expos. James began a new level of his paranormal life when he began his studies in demonology and the ministry. Dedicating himself to helping others in the field and those who are in need of a cleansing or blessing, he travels anywhere he is needed free of charge. Even though he has hundreds of cases under his belt, he never makes himself to appear as if he is better than his peers in the field or unavailable to someone who requires his assistance. If for some reason he is unable to help, he always passes the case along to another in the field with equal or more experience than himself. James in March 2015 created The Dominion Ministry to change the landscape of the spiritual warfare field, bringing many spiritual warriors together. In early 2017, James stepped down from The Dominion Ministry to make time for his family, continued studies in the paranormal and as well becoming a seminarian and then eventually ordained as a Deacon. James also worked alongside Carl Johnson in the research/lecture group Duo Daemonologie which started lecturing in 2019 and ended in 2022. Also, in 2022 James started working with Criminologist Laura Brand, expert on The Toolbox Killers on the project ‘True Evil'; A Podcast and Lecture Series while also retaking over ownership and leadership of The Dominion Ministry.

The development of the industrial revolution in the United States begins with the textile industry. Centered in New England, the explosion of wealth from industrial manufacturing of cloth would form the foundation for the construction of the rest of the US industrial base. Along with that early capitalist development came the rise of the labor movement. In this two part series, we will discuss some of the earliest factory strikes in US history, and how they show in microcosm the development of the forms of capitalist oppression we still see today. We will discuss how class exploitation has always been bound up with oppression based on gender, race, age, and any other ways the capitalists could find to divide workers against each other. In the first episode we cover the very first factory strike in US history, at the Slater Mill in Pawtucket, RI, as well as the rise of the Lowell Mill Girls Association in Massachusetts. In the second episode, we will move into the 20th century, discussing the Triangle Shirtwaist fire and the national textile strike of 1934. Ryleigh Black is currently working in the Paranormal Community as an Electronic V0oice Phenomena (EVP) specialist. She works alongside with many different teams as an independent investigator. She has spent many hours investigating some very well-known haunted locations across the United States. Places like the U.S.S. Salem where she would crawl down into the deepest darkest spaces of the ship (where no one else dared to go), chasing after the spirits trying to capture evidence of life after death! Also other “most haunted” locations like Slater Mill, The Oliver House, and many more! She gives lectures across the United States and Canada showing historical data and revealing evidence that she has personally collected scaring many individuals who have seen and heard what she’s captured. Being part Native American, Ryleigh grew up on a reservation in Arizona. She learned the belief systems and the ways of the Wiccan religion. She later moved to the East Coast to live with her Russian grandmother, and was raised in a house that was full of spirits. Part of that house was previously used as a “viewing area” for deceased family members! Although it was very unpopular with the Russian belief systems, Ryleigh had always been interested in the spirit activity. She would read everything she could get her hands on with regards to hauntings and the paranormal. This started her path on investigating the unknown and unanswered. Her interest in researching the existence of extraterrestrial beings started ever she witnessed unusual lights in the sky back in the 1990’s. She was actually hunting in the Arizona desert when the strange lights appeared in the sky. Climbing over canyon walls to the highest cliffs, she chased a better look at what could possibly be intelligent alien life. What she saw changed her outlook and opinion on questioning if we are alone or not in this universe. While feeling scared, and very small, she stood her ground and watched until the lights disappeared into the night sky. Witnessing what has since become a very well documented UFO experience known as the “Phoenix Lights”. Putting her on the path of yet another investigative adventure. Searching for Bigfoot, local urban legends, and mythology is also on the list of Ryleigh’s passions. She goes where no female has gone before! From chasing Bigfoot in New England to the Chupacabra in Arizona, and all things in between! Her passion fuels her drive to research for answers. When asked, Ryleigh stated: “I believe I’m good at this because I’ve done so many things involving researching and looking for answers in some of the craziest, scariest, and most haunted places on earth! I’m a natural leader and I’ve led many different teams on so many investigations. I’m very energetic and people always enjoy my participation, knowledge, and personality whether it be at events, investigations, or giving lectures”. Ryleigh has been specializing in the capture of EVP with the public for the past 12 years. She has a history of working side by side with some of the greatest minds in the paranormal community. She was one of the first female radio show hosts of her very own groundbreaking popular radio show called "Club Para" on blogtalk radio. She was the first woman ever to hold a “Para-Con” over the air waves that included all of the most popular Para TV Celebrities, Actors from hunter TV shows, and the like. Ryleigh played a background actor in the latest “Ghost Busters” Film (2016). She played the part of a Native American woman in an episode on the TV show “Paranormal Lockdown”. She has written and done background research for TV shows airing in Canada. She’s been a background actress since 2015 and was in Ghostbusters 2016, Paranormal Lockdown-The Oliver house, Paranormal 911 - 2019, Paranormal Emergency 2020, Paranormal Hospital 2020, and she’s not slowing down anytime soon! She continues to do acting and modeling as part of her current busy lifestyle. Some of her other accomplishments include magazine covers, and she actually won "Horror/Paranormal model of the year" back in 2014. She has appeared on the cover of Paranormal Underground magazine, worked as a model for Grindhouse Girls, and also for InkedGirls magazine
Carl L. Johnson has been investigating reports of strange phenomena for the past 46 years, beginning with his association with noted ghost-hunting couple Ed and Lorraine Warren. As members of a team based at Rhode island College, Carl and his identical twin brother Keith were called in to investigate the Perron family's situation in Harrisville, Rhode Island during August and September of 1973 and they alerted the Warrens to the situation. Forty years later, this inspired a motion picture titled, The Conjuring. Both Carl and Keith were featured in the first and second seasons of the SyFy Channel series, Ghost Hunters, leaving the show to better pursue their own interests. Carl has numerous other television credits. Most recently, Carl participated in an investigation of Round Top Hill Farm house in Harrisville, which was produced for the Halloween, 2019 episode of Ghost Adventures seen on the Travel Channel. Specializing as a demonologist, Carl continues his exploration of the preternatural through his web site, "Demonology, Incorporated." He writes and lectures on related topics, and is well-versed in arcane New England lore. A recent venture of Carl's is the educational and research unit, Duo Daemonology, for which he has partnered with theologian James Annitto. Carl is employed by Old Slater Mill Association as Senior Interpreter staff and Programs Development. Slater Mill, located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, built in 1793, is regarded as the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution. The site is rich with history and, it is said, haunting, as unexplained happenings often are reported within all three historic buildings on the grounds. call in at 563-999-3002 --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/atunetwork/support --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/atunetwork/support

Children as young as 7-years-old once worked here long hours. Some lost limbs in the machinery, others lost their lives. Today, along with the Wilkinson Mill and the Sylvanus Brown House, this complex is one of Rhode Island’s most active haunts. But do Jeff and Ray have an encounter of their own?

Join Eric, Lon & Sean on our annual Halloween show! We've got a spooky one this year as we welcome longtime Demonologists and paranormal investigators Keith & Carl Johnson Keith & Carl Johnson grew up in a house in Rhode Island where paranormal phenomena would occasionally occur. Those events triggered their extreme interest in the supernatural world. In the early 1970s, when they were just teenagers, Keith and Carl attended a lecture featuring paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren at nearby Rhode Island College. Subsequently, they developed a friendship with the Warrens, which lasted for decades. They joined a paranormal research organization at Rhode Island College, known as the Parapsychology Investigation and Research Organization (PIRO), and as it turned out, Keith's first major investigation turned out to be a case of demonic infestation. In October of 2004, Keith and his wife, Sandra, founded New England Anomalies Research (NEAR). Keith says they founded NEAR after the Ghost Hunters series, with which they were involved for the first two seasons, became so successful, because their involvement with the show made it difficult to focus on their clients' cases — especially those of a confidential and sometime even demonic nature. Keith often officiates when house blessings and exorcisms need to be performed for both TAPS and his own organization, NEAR. Keith still consults with TAPS as a demonologist, as well as working with fellow demonologists and associates at NEAR to help people who believe themselves to be the victims of hauntings, possession, or demonic oppression in New England. NEAR is comprised of many former investigators from TAPS, and they have stayed true to their goal of investigating and analyzing phenomena that is suspected to be of paranormal origin. Keith and his wife Sandra co-produce a weekly cable television show calledGhosts R Near in Providence, Rhode Island, which explores the topics of ghosts, the paranormal, and hauntings. Keith's twin brother Carl is a demonologist, too. He is also NEAR's senior investigator and alternate co-host of Ghosts R Near. He continues to explore the paranormal with his colleagues. Carl and his girlfriend Dina Palazini are the principle investigators at Beyond The Veil Paranormal. BTVP was established as a cooperative effort to penetrate some of the more elusive mysteries of humanity and the world we inhabit, to value expanding knowledge in favor of competition, and as a forum to share experiences. We interpret paranormal as that which is removed from what is contained by prevailing scientific standard. The two brothers combine their mutual love of history and the paranormal in the tours they conduct at Slater Mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Using their extensive knowledge of both Slater Mill and the Blackstone Valley area, plus their unique love of all things ghostly, they host tours in this old, allegedly very haunted mill in their Paranormal Pawtucket Ghost Tours.
