Mea Culpa welcomes back, intrepid newsman, Ali Velshi. Host of “Velshi” and seemingly the favorite fill-in host of every other MSNBC Prime Time News Show. Velshi also reported live from the frontlines of the George Floyd protests, he was drenched during hurricane Ian. And dodged incoming fire from Russian artillery when he fearlessly reported live from the frontlines in Ukraine. A concerned citizen of the world, Velshi seems to be everywhere there is an injustice. He has been a contributor at CNN, Al Jazeera America, and NBC to name a few. He joins us on Mea Culpa amidst this historic moment of Trump's fourth arrest. Just last week he read the entirety of the 98-page indictment on the air and into the historic record. This is a true moment of infamy.

The Marshall Project's Investigation into Cuyahoga Jail Cameras Security cameras are vital in a jail, especially when something tragic happens, but for years, Cuyahoga County had a broken surveillance system due to neglecting to replace old jail cameras. County emails show they knew about the issue for four years, according to new reporting from The Marshall Project Cleveland. This means some families were left without answers about what happened to their loved ones who died while in custody. Jail officials say the outdated devices have all been replaced as of this April. We'll hear more reporting on this investigation from The Marshall Project Cleveland Staff Writer Doug Livingston, on Tuesday's "Sound of Ideas." Tick Bites Then we turn our attention outside and discuss the rising rates of tick bites. There were 2,800 reported cases of Lyme disease in Ohio last year, a disease which is largely connected to blacklegged ticks. Two researchers will join us to explain why we're seeing so many more tick bites in recent years, and what to do if you or your pet it bitten by one. Guests: - Rachel Kappler, Ph.D., Forest Health Collaborative Coordinator, Holden Forests & Gardens - Vanessa Varaljay, PhD, Chief Research Officer, The Ohio State University Infectious Disease Institute; Buckeye Tick Test "Shade" by Sam Bloch We close to the show which what one nature writer is calling a "forgotten natural resource" - shade. Just in time for the summer months, we hear some perspective on how humans have embraced or neglected shade, tree canopies, architectural cooling designs and consideration of the climate. Bloch writes about the dangers of heat and sun exposure, and how it kills thousands of Americans each year, but doesn't get the media attention of something like or hurricane or tornado. Guests: - Sam Bloch, Author, "Shade: The Promise of a Forgotten Natural Resource"
Major changes could be coming to Northwest Montana — from fishing regulations and downtown Kalispell cruising to jail oversight battles and a troubling Libby drug court case. In this episode of News Now from the Daily Inter Lake, reporter Taylor Inman breaks down four of the week's biggest headlines impacting the Flathead Valley and beyond.Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is proposing sweeping fishing regulation changes aimed at protecting endangered bull trout and native trout populations. The proposals could eliminate possession limits for certain non-native species in western Montana waters, including Flathead Lake, while expanding restrictions on bait and tackle use across several rivers and streams. Then, the growing debate over Friday night cruising in downtown Kalispell continues as city leaders, business owners and car enthusiasts search for ways to preserve the classic Americana tradition while cracking down on reckless driving, burnouts and speeding along Main Street. Also in this episode, Lake County commissioners are moving toward shifting jail administration away from the Sheriff's Office, citing lawsuits, liability concerns and accountability issues. The controversial proposal has sparked questions about detention officer retirement benefits and the future of county jail operations. And finally, a Libby man previously convicted on fentanyl and methamphetamine possession is facing renewed legal trouble after authorities say he failed treatment court, violated probation conditions and continued struggling with addiction.Northwest Montana deserves strong news reporting. Joseph Murphy grew up in a good family in Wisconsin, but at just 17 years old he made a decision that changed everything — committing an armed gas station robbery that sent him into the criminal justice system. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, Joseph opens up about living with mental health disabilities while navigating county jail, prison, and years on probation, where violations kept pulling him back in. Despite receiving a rare pardon from the governor, he later found himself facing new charges for check fraud and business fraud, leading to more time in both Iowa and Wisconsin jails and prisons. Joseph shares what it was like being stuck in the system for decades, the challenges of surviving incarceration with a disability, and how difficult it is to truly break free once you're in. After finally getting out, he landed a job with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, only to be fired for discrimination related to his disability — a case he fought and ultimately settled. _____________________________________________ #PrisonStories #TrueCrime #JailLife #Probation #MentalHealth #ExInmate #CriminalJustice #realstories _____________________________________________ Connect with Joseph Murphy: Email: JoeJustice2026@gmail.com _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ _____________________________________________ Shop Locked In Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 From Robbery to Prison — His Story Begins 01:10 Growing Up & Family Background 02:00 Mental Health Struggles Early On 02:30 The Gas Station Robbery 03:43 Arrest, Charges & Juvenile Sentencing 05:55 Fighting for a Pardon & Lessons Learned 07:17 Second Chance… Then Another Arrest 09:45 Legal System Challenges & Court Battles 13:10 Probation vs Prison — What's Worse? 15:32 Mental Illness Inside the System 17:19 Life in Prison — Reality & Conditions 20:00 Loss, Survival & Breaking Points 23:02 The Truth About Probation & Parole 25:00 Violations That Send People Back 29:29 Life After Probation — Marriage & Growth 33:31 Building a Business After Prison 36:45 New Charges & Legal Consequences 43:10 County Jail vs Prison — Key Differences 46:40 Playing the Legal System Like a Game 48:01 Release, Relocation & Starting Over 51:21 Becoming an Advocate in Mississippi 53:38 Helping Others After Prison 56:01 Learning From Setbacks & Moving Forward 01:00:20 Criminal Justice Reform Efforts 01:07:20 Working Inside the Corrections System 01:12:30 Workplace Discrimination & Legal Fight 01:18:35 ADA Rights & Systemic Issues 01:23:00 Finally Off Probation — Freedom 01:24:42 Calling for Criminal Justice Reform 01:27:19 Final Thoughts & Closing Learn more about your ad choices. This week, we're sharing an interview with Julie and Jeremy, two anarchists and participants in the Asheville Community Bail Fund. We speak about the US system of pre-trial incarceration aka bail and bond, the work of the bail fund locally, the overcrowding of the Buncombe County Jail here in Asheville, the ICE holds happening in the local jail, and how local policy choices regarding criminalization are being compounded by recent and new North Carolina legislation. Even if you aren't in Asheville or North Carolina, it's likely that much of this conversation will be pertinent to goings-ons in your neck of the woods (though hopefully not). If you're a regular listener to The Final Straw Radio, have a passion for enriching the anarchist media environment, feel like your values align with what you've heard on the show and want a chance to help out and hone your skills, we're always looking for help. What begins as a conversation about preservation and history quickly turns into a deep dive into unexplained encounters, lingering spirits, and the emotional weight carried by a building that once held pain, punishment, and forgotten stories. The Gilchrist County Jail, built in the early 1900s, has stood for generations as a symbol of justice, confinement, and human suffering. Patrick shares the rich history of the jail—who was housed there, how prisoners lived, and how the building transitioned from an active jail to a historical site. But as many paranormal investigators know, places with intense emotional energy rarely fall silent when their official purpose ends. During the interview, Patrick recounts firsthand paranormal experiences reported by staff, visitors, and investigators alike. From unexplained footsteps echoing down empty cell blocks to voices heard when no one else is present, the activity inside the jail appears intelligent, persistent, and deeply tied to its past. Objects moving, cold spots, and shadow figures are all part of the jail's unsettling reputation. Joe and Jen also explore the emotional side of investigating historic locations like this one. Patrick speaks openly about the responsibility that comes with preserving not only the building, but the stories of the people who lived and died there. The conversation touches on respect for the dead, ethical investigation practices, and why some spirits may choose to remain behind. As the discussion unfolds, the team examines whether the jail's activity could be residual energy replaying traumatic moments—or something far more aware. Most museums tell their stories through artifacts and old photographs. The Kewaunee County Jail Museum tells its story a little differently. Yes, it's a museum, but visitors also talk about staircases where shadows move without anyone on them, and quiet hallways where the temperature suddenly shifts. Paranormal teams have captured voices answering questions in empty rooms, and more than once, a childlike voice has slipped through on recordings, even when no children were in the building. And then there's the man locals still whisper about: a desperate inmate named Joe Bushy, whose tragic end inside the original jail—and the strange discovery tied to his grave years later—has many wondering if he ever really left the property at all. On this episode of the Grave Talks, curator Brian Huben talks about the history, the hauntings, and the experiences that have turned the Kewaunee County Jail Museum into an unexpected paranormal destination on the shores of Lake Michigan. #KewauneeCountyJail #HauntedWisconsin #ParanormalPodcast #GhostStories #HauntedHistory #HauntedJail #ParanormalInvestigations #EVP #GhostHunt #RealHauntings #UnexplainedPhenomena Love real ghost stories? Dave Franke shares the journey that most people could never imagine living through. Growing up in California, Dave became involved in the skinhead gang lifestyle at a young age, pulled in by identity, belonging, and survival. That path led him into some of the hardest jails and prisons in California, where violence, politics, and racial tension were a part of everyday life. Over time, Dave began questioning everything—his beliefs, his identity, and the world he thought he understood. He eventually renounced the skinhead lifestyle, determined to break the cycle and find a new purpose. After rebuilding his life and establishing himself in a stable career, he took a dramatic turn few would ever see coming: he went to Mexico and worked alongside law enforcement in operations targeting drug cartels. #LockedInWithIanBick #RealStories #PrisonStories #TrueCrime #CartelStories #SurvivorStory #ChangeYourLife #StreetToStrength Thank you to BRUNT & PRIZEPICKS for sponsoring this episode: Brunt: $10 Off @BRUNT with code LOCKEDIN at https://www.bruntworkwear.com/lockedin #bruntpod Prizepicks: Visit https://prizepicks.onelink.me/LME0/IANBICK and use code IANBICK and get $50 in lineups when you play your first $5 lineup! This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! On Crown Point's Main Street stands a charming red-brick mansion hiding a chilling secret—the Old Lake County Jail. Once home to just ten cells, it eventually crammed in 150 inmates by 1928. Among them was America's most wanted gangster, John Dillinger, who famously escaped in 1934, leaving his captors humiliated—and some spirits behind. Though Dillinger slipped away, many prisoners never left. Visitors report apparitions of inmates and guards, the clang of cell doors slamming shut, phantom footsteps on the metal stairs, and whispers in dark hallways long after closing hours. Locals say this historic jail still holds those who served a life sentence—and never stopped. In this episode of The Grave Talks, we join Jacquie Thompson and Sandy Boyd to explore the haunted history of Old Lake County Jail. From the building's violent past to modern-day paranormal encounters, we uncover why this site is believed to be one of Indiana's most haunted places. This is Part Two of our conversation. After an inmate sucker-punches James Sexton, he defies the jail's unwritten rules by failing to exact violent retribution, and finds himself ostracized by his peers. But he becomes an expert in the antiquated jail computer system and eventually wins promotion to an elite jail-intelligence unit. Leah Marx has a cell phone smuggled to inmate-informant Anthony Brown, part of the FBI's increasingly ambitious scheme to catch dirty jailers. Jailers quickly discover the phone, however, and trace it to the FBI. Scrambling to hide Brown from the feds, the department enlists Sexton, who helps change Brown's name in the computer system and dubs the plan Operation Pandora's Box. For 18 days, from August-Sept. 2011, Marx struggles to find her informant. The effort to erase Anthony Brown from jail records showed how far leaders would go to shield themselves. A young deputy became central to the cover-up, and what began as a contraband phone case quickly spiraled into an obstruction probe. Reporter Chris Goffard, who previously told the story of Dirty John, guides listeners through this extraordinary clash between the Sheriff's Department and the FBI.
This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! If walls could talk, the Historic Scott County Jail would scream. Built in 1904 to resemble a medieval fortress, this former Tennessee jail has witnessed over a century of violence, heartbreak, and incarceration—and according to many, the souls inside never truly left. Now operated as a museum and active paranormal research center, the jail is overseen by investigators Miranda Young and Kristy Sumner. What they've uncovered inside is beyond eerie—full-bodied apparitions, chilling EVPs, and footsteps that echo long after the living have gone. Are the former inmates still locked inside? Are the guards still making their rounds? Miranda shares her chilling encounters inside the stone walls that once held Tennessee's most notorious criminals—and may now hold their restless spirits.
