We're very happy to welcome Space Quest Historian in our new episode! He's not only a Youtuber making videos about adventure games, but also a live streamer, podcaster and musician and of course an overall adventure game aficionado. Enjoy! The interview starts at minute 34:16
Greetings, carbon-based lifeforms! The Space Quest Adventurecast has reached its exciting conclusion, but we hope you've enjoyed it! In this episode you'll be treated to: - Droole trying desperately to befriend a water buffalo - The crew eliminating the remaining Sequel Policeman in spectacular fashion - Roger and Cliffy abusing the ability to "save" and "load" the game - Significant amounts of death ...and then they finish the adventure, or something! Music from spacequest.net, and The Space Quest Historian.
This week Anna & Paul are joined by special guest Daniel Albu (Conversations with Curtis) to excavate deep into The Dig. It was actually more work to avoid saying dig deep than it was worth. Anyway, actually, that's kinda it. I mean you know the deal, they talk about the game, which in this case is The Dig, you can already see they're joined by a guest, like usual the guest is prolly the knowledgable one in the group and then something something laughter and facts*. This week Anna & Paul bring you the next installment in the Sierra Remake Series, this week they are comparing both versions of Leisure Suit Larry In The Land of the Lounge Lizards! It's EGA vs VGA, AGI vs SCI, Parser vs Point and Click! Join them as they take you through both versions of Larry's origin story, examining the differences in gameplay, story and experience and even bringing in a dash of Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded for good measure. They really went HARD on this one. Ya know. Really ah, really did it to completion. Really um... got intimate with the details. Explored every nook and cranny. Really bounced off each other. Had a, had a stimulating conversation. Really, they really come out on top of this one. Penis. Okay okay, enjoy, Mangia! Vote for The Phantom Fellows to be released on GOG! We're back, spacefarers, with another zany episode of the Space Quest Adventurecast! The journey continues as the crew of the debris field formerly known as the S.C.S. Goliath (and S.C.S. Eureka) search the strange and wacky halls of this strange water-based... museum? Aquarium? Research facility? Whatever the heck it is, the crew certainly isn't going to leave the place unscathed before they find their way out. In this action-packed installment, you'll witness: - Insights into Cliffy's television preferences - The crew instilling fear and confusion into the cores of the various maintenance robots - A tactical use for shaken-up soda - Roger poking a tentacle with a stick, and the predictable consequences ...and much more! Music from spacequest.net, and The Space Quest Historian.

This week Anna & Paul have a particularly casual conversation, looking back at all the CGG episodes from 2023, and then using their mouths to create sounds that are often- but not always- words, and then the goal here is that you like the words they say, which are again, inspired from them looking at past episodes and should potentially encapsulate feelings about said episodes. This week Anna & Paul discuss things, using words. Mangia! Okay fine. They talk about interfaces, gooey's and unique game mechanics! What do I mean? Unclear! Okay okay, for starters, gooey is neat for GUI's which is less nerdy for Graphical User Interfaces. And by interfaces I mean Text Parser, 9 Verb, 2-Click, Sierra Point and Click, Verb Coin and maybe more. And by unique mechanics, well they look at innovative gameplay mechanics used in adventures games such as Resonance, Whispers of a Machine and others- look at some point you're just gonna have to listen to it, this is as far as I can take you. See cos there's Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel and then there's Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel, again, for the first time. See, they're both actually quite different and it's not even- it's not subtle. Oh yeah, did I mention this is the first in a lil mini series of comparing Sierra SCI/VGA remakes to their original counterpart? Cos it is. This week Anna & Paul are doing words at you while under the direction of "talk about plots" and "make them good words". They are looking at adventure games with complex plots and adventure games with thin, straightforward plots and examining when one is better than the other and asking the question: how much does the plot of the story even matter, in adventure games? After all, it is rarely the main topic of conversation surrounding an adventure game, so why is that? Also, this episode is available in a video version, on YouTube! This week Paul is joined by special guest Adventure Game Geek and they are going through their favorite scary, spooky and suspenseful adventure games! Sure it kind of devolved into ranking games from 0 to "has a pumpkin in it" and sure, what was supposed to be a list of scary games turned into more "well, at some point it's dark and raining, so that counts" but it's a fun time regardless. This week Anna & Paul are taking you through a point and click adventure game that is often referred to as "surprisingly really good". What game is that? The one that's the title of the episode omg it's so long, don't make me type it out again. FINE, Beavis and Butthead in Virtual Stupidity. Okay I actually copied and pasted it, that wasn't so bad/sorry for yelling. Basically they attempt to give you a solid second hand experience with the game, essentially playing it for you. I mean they didn't really hit that mark but that, that's what was attempted. But they did have fun and laugh a lot so maybe you will too, who knows. Mangia! Wishlist our adventure game! This week Anna & Paul embark on a journey of self growth, where you might say they learn a few things a long the way. Or maybe along the way. That's, spelling that word is one of the things they learned. If you're a fan of adventure games, laughter or Nietzsche, you're going to want to listen to this one, it's even got some accidental profundity at the end. Wanna know what's actually talked about in the episode? Fair enough. Defining adventure comedy, fourth wall breaking, red herrings, narration, in-jokes, visual gags, funny deaths, parody, straight-man characters and more! Actually and no more. This week Anna & Paul get all whipped up over Adventurous Environments or Immersive Environments or whatever other versions of this show's title we didn't use, that also attempts to set an explorative mood. See like, Exploring Environments won because it's like, that's both what we did aaand it's what these environments were made for. For exploring. So. We explored them. Okay fine, we talk about realistic vs stylized worlds, how different graphical versions change the mood of a game, the ingredients for a proper atmosphere, Memphis design and like, 3-6 other things. Blog link: https://videogamegrooves.com/2023/03/31/episode-103-last-ninja-2-kings-chill-vol-1 When time is a flat circle, the turntable of continuity brings familiar things around again. This is the case with today's episode as we plumb the depths of gaming nostalgia with Troels Pleimert, the Space Quest Historian. In this episode, we finally get a chance to talk about the Commodore 64 tour-de-force ninja simulator, Last Ninja 2 by Matt Gray. Our discussion reminds us that 30+ years ago, truly pioneering things were happening in the gaming space and in the music space that still echo in creativity today. Also we learn that ninjas and New York City were (and remain) the cultural touchstones of many a 1980s kid, wherever that 80s kid may be. We continue by vibing along to King's Chil Vol. 1, produced by Troels and Two Guys Records. We hear about the unusual origin of the album, the talented community that stepped up to create it, and learn a thing or two about floppy diskettes and seagull butts. We continue with the new releases for the month, including some that have quickly been snapped up and still a few others that are calling to you to give them a forever home. The fare has been lighter than expected this year, but don't expect that to last! Finally, we discuss the notable difficulty that music from games in the MS-DOS platform era have had being represented on vinyl. Troels discusses difficulties and opportunities in that vinyl space, and gives Video Game Grooves listeners advance notice of an upcoming crowdfunding project that will interest a number of PC gamers and FMV fans. Blog link: http://videogamegrooves.com/2022/09/26/episode-97-space-quest-historian-space-quest-6-reorchestrated/ It's been a while since we had a real episode, but we're back from summer vacation into a lovely autumn, chock full of outer space, intestinal parasites, and swing harmonica. Of course this means that we are joined by Troels Pleimert, the Space Quest Historian, for his inaugural voyage into the moderately unknown world of video game music on vinyl. We finally get to dig in deeply to the world of adventure games and their presence (or lack of it?) in the game music vinyl space, and we open with a "Stellar" entry from SQH himself, Space Quest VI: Roger Wilco in the Spinal Frontier Reorchestrated! We talk about the music of the series going back to Space Quest 3, the vagaries of MIDI (possibly pronounced "meaty") music, and eventually end up in a discussion about how many cats have been lost in vinyl mishaps. We also get to hear about an upcoming project from Troels and friends in the band Error 47 that absolutely boggles the mind in its niche-ness, and we may get a special sample on-air!
