Romans, 1–2 Corinthians, Galatians, EphesiansRomans ·      Written by Paul before he ever visited Rome. ·      Written to generate support for his desire to carry the Gospel to Spain. ·      Written as a more detailed (more detailed than Galatians) explanation of the gospel and of his theology·      Texts to Consider: Rom 1:8–17; Rom 3:21–26; Rom 15:17–291 Corinthians·      Written by Paul from Ephesus after he had visited Corinth.·      Written to correct and rebuke the Corinthians over division, toleration of sin, eating food sacrificed to idols, abuse of the Lords Supper, asking for financial support for church in Jerusalem, and other factors.·      Texts to Consider: 1 Cor 1:10–31; 1 Cor 13:1–132 Corinthians·      Written by Paul following the reception of his first letter and a “painful visit.” ·      Written to defend his own ministry in light of the disparagement from the Corinthians and the “Super-Apostles”·      Written to press the importance of completing the offering for the hurting church in Jerusalem·      Texts to Consider: 2 Cor 2:1–4; 2 Cor 2:12–3:3; 2 Cor 10:7–18; 2 Cor 11:4–6Galatians·      Written by Paul after his first missionary journey, but before the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15) in 48 AD. This, if accurate, would make Galatians Paul's earliest letter.·      Written to rebuke the Galatian churches (probably the churches of Lystra, Derbe, etc.) for their forsaking the true gospel of justification by faith alone in Christ alone to try to live out the faith by adherence to the law. ·      Paul's shared some details of his first meetings with Peter and James. He makes the point strongly that the gospel that saved them is the same gospel that kept them saved.·      Texts to Consider: Gal 1:6–10; Gal 2:15–3:6Ephesians·      Written by Paul from Roman imprisonment (the one described at the end of Acts) in 60–62 AD. Along with Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon called the Prison Epistles.·      Possibly a circular letter, meaning it went to more than just one church or one region. Some manuscripts don't include “in Ephesus” (Eph 1:1), and this book does not have many personal references. ·      Written to encourage believers to remember who they are positionally in Christ, and live that out practically in a broken world.·      Texts to Consider: Eph 1:19–2:10; Eph 2:11–22; 4:1–7; Eph 4:22–5:2; Eph 5:31–33

Paul's second letter to the church in Corinth is a heartfelt letter stemming from the issues he faced with this church he planted and dearly loved. Paul's enemies, the so-called “Super Apostles”, are discrediting his authority as an apostle on the grounds of his afflictions. Little did they know how God is equipping Paul through his sufferings. Paul mocks the false teachers by calling them super-apostles. They deem themselves to be so special that they treat the Corinthian believers harshly and make demands on them. Paul contrasts his sacrificial behavior and generosity with their greed and egos. This message warns us how to spot these false-teachers in sheep's clothing and what to do about them. Corinth was one of the largest and most important cities in the Roman world during Paul's days. It was steeped in paganism and every form of wicked distraction. It was also a place Paul spent several years. It's no wonder that Paul wrote two of his most forceful and humble letters to this people that he grew to love so much.In his second (biblically published) letter to the Corinthians, Paul encourages the people he loves to press on to know God and follow Him more closely, something each one of us needs to hear today.-----------LINKS----------Support 10WB on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/10weekbibleThe 10 Week Bible - http://www.10WeekBible.comTwitter: @DarrenHibbs - https://twitter.com/DarrenHibbsSign up for my newsletter - http://www.darrenhibbs.comGet a copy of the 10 Week Bible Study today - https://www.amazon.com/Darren-Hibbs/e/B00B4I47CE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl2&tag=darrenhcom0a-20&linkId=401f3d79974c70929517936977e32df9My other YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChUU0XHSHuhSyN8qk-7efYgSupport the show

Counterfeit Kingdom reveals dangers and distortions of New Apostolic Reformation & its influence on American ChurchA dangerous set of teachings is shaping America's worship songs, ministries and political engagement. This new movement is influencing many churches and individual Christians, often without their realization. But is this biblical Christianity? The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is a popular, new movement of Christians who emphasize signs and wonders and teach that God is giving new revelation through new “apostles” and “prophets.” While much of what NAR leaders put forth may seem mainstream at first glance, a study of its teachings and practices reveals troubling underpinnings. In their new book Counterfeit Kingdom, apologists and NAR experts Holly Pivec and Doug Geivett show how NAR's key tenets distort the gospel of grace and diminish the deity of Jesus, as well as include New Age practices. The book also includes personal stories that have flooded Pivec's and Geivett's inboxes over the years from those who have experienced spiritual abuse in NAR churches from those who claim authority.Counterfeit Kingdom aids every believer in the vital work of discernment and best-selling author Alisa Childers calls it the “most important book you will read this year.” In addition, Pivec and Geivett hope their book will aid church leaders in understanding NAR, giving them biblically grounded, practical suggestions for discipling individuals who are already influenced by false teachings. The church-at-large needs a wake-up call and Counterfeit Kingdom provides research, anecdotes and faithfulness to historic Christian teaching at just the right time.Purchase on AmazonHolly Pivec is a blogger, author, and speaker, as well as a pastor's wife and homeschooling mom. The so called "Super-Apostles" turn out to be not very super and certainly not apostles.  In fact, they are deceivers who are beguiling people just like Satan did to Eve in the Garden of Eden. They come in disguise. They come disguised as apostles, Christians, in the family, on mission, and as servants for the King.  In truth, they are the opposite of all those things.  Unlike Eve, let's take a step back and identify truth from falsehood.  Let's see past the disguise to the real actor.  Let's not do what Eve did. Let's stick to truth.  I don't know a better way to do that than to stick to His Word in the Bible.  That's why there will be another step in the New Testament tomorrow. Does the church need modern Super Apostles?  If you ask some, the American Church's greatest need is to recover and continue the Neo-Evangelical vision of Carl Henry and Billy Graham? Trevin Wax and the folks over at The Gospel Coaltion seem to take this position.   At the heart of this vision is the need rediscovery of modern day theological and cultural gatekeepers that follow in the footsteps of Henry and Graham.  What are the merits of this vision?  Does it work?  Will it rescue the conservative evangelicalism from it's current divisions? Tom and Ryan breakdown Trevin's recent article called “Why I'm Not Kissing Evangelicalism Goodbye” along side a response from R. Scott Clark over at the Heidelblog.  We hope our assessment is both helpful and fair.

This week we'll be studying 2 Corinthians 10:12-18 under the theme "COMPARISON - RULE 4 - "Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today." If you don't find your identity in the gift of Christ's righteousness, you're going to look for it comparing some aspect of your life against the lives of others, just the way the rest of the world establishes identity. This week, Paul teaches us something about self-image as he contrasts his ministry with that of a group who considered themselves "Super Apostles."
