One great challenge of our time is that while it's becoming common knowledge that western media is propaganda and western politics is a corrupt sham, fake solutions to these problems are being marketed to the mainstream by the same powers responsible for them. Donald Trump himself will tell you that the media are lying and the political establishment is run by swamp monsters, and then say that the solution is to support Republicans and trust right wing media. Elon Musk will go on Joe Rogan and say the same thing. In 2028 AOC will probably run for president campaigning on the Democratic Party version of the same faux-populist message, just as Bernie Sanders did. Reading by Tim Foley.

In this two-part series, Davy Rosengreen is joined by Pastor Marco and Andy Gould from Moriel Israel, discusses the meaning of God's Word in His own words. Languages are not the same. Therefore, when someone changes words or uses an English synonym, the original meaning of the word is changed. Andy Woods uses the word "believe" and "faith" interchangeably. Belief is not synonymous with faith, it's just not. He says that you do not have to believe in Jesus to be saved because Jesus died for all sins and unbelief is a sin. Marco and Andy Gould break this down and explain why this teaching is blasphemous.

For twentieth-century Jewish immigrants and their children attempting to gain full access to American society, performative masculinity was a tool of acculturation. However, as scholar Miriam Eve Mora demonstrates, this performance is consistently challenged by American mainstream society that holds Jewish men outside of the American ideal of masculinity. Depicted as weak, effeminate, cowardly, gentle, bookish, or conflict-averse, Jewish men have been ascribed these qualities by outside forces, but some have also intentionally subscribed themselves to masculinities at odds with the American mainstream.  Carrying a Big Schtick: Jewish Acculturation and Masculinity in the Twentieth Century (Wayne State UP, 2024) dissects notions of Jewish masculinity and its perception and practice in America in the twentieth century through the lenses of immigration and cultural history. Tracing Jewish masculinity through major themes and events including both World Wars, the Holocaust, American Zionism, Israeli statehood, and the Six-Day War, this work establishes that the struggle of this process can shed light on the changing dynamics in religious, social, and economic American Jewish life. Geraldine Gudefin is a French-born modern Jewish historian researching Jewish family life, legal pluralism, and the migration experiences of Jews in France and the United States. She is currently a research fellow at the Hebrew University's Avraham Harman Research Institute of Contemporary Jewry, and is completing a book titled An Impossible Divorce? “New Starbucks CEO plans to pull barista shifts in stores every month,” CNN announces. “Uber's CEO moonlighted as a driver and it changed the way he operates the company,” Fortune insists. “Your DoorDash driver? He's the company's co-founder,” the Associated Press smirks. Month after month or week after week, we seem to hear the same stories about bold corporate executives who've decided to roll up their sleeves—metaphorically or otherwise—and join their lowest-level employees as a delivery driver, barista, or retail worker. Their stated goal: to “stay connected” to and “better understand” the company, its customers, and its workers. While these attempts to foster and express empathy may appear noble on the surface, they're anything but. In reality, the CEO-as-worker stunt is an entirely self-serving project, creating a pretext for worker surveillance and a distraction from labor abuses like poverty wages and union-busting, all the while seeking to convince the public that corporate executives are honest, hardworking folks, Just Like You. Today, we will be dissecting the past and present of Undercover Boss-style corporate maneuvers, looking at the ways in which the C-suiter-in-the-trenches routine advances the squishy concept of “empathy” in order to obscure and undermine the material needs and demands of labor. Our guest is Ligia Guallpa, Executive Director of the Worker's Justice Project, a community-based, workers' rights organization in New York City.

Marianne Williamson? Inexperienced? Not at all. In fact, she does have a ton of experience… in New Age, on-stage pseudotherapy, where she solves the problems of the troubled with memorized lines from A Course in Miracles. She's been doing these sessions at workshops and retreats for decades, and the schtick is always the same: if only the person would change their minds about their problem, the world would be healed.  While this may fly on the workshop circuit, if you listen carefully you'll hear that she gives the same answer on the stump. It comes through most clearly when she's pressed on questions of strategy. She will instantly pivot to talking about the spirit and the soul. The effect is a disarming oscillation between the political and the personal. Are we talking about defeating fascists? No, no, that's too worldly! We're talking about opening our hearts. And if that feels good during a politically tense exchange, it's because she changed the subject. To see how this sleight-of-hand works, Matthew examines two classic Williamson encounters to show that the answers she gives on the stump aren't much different from the answers she gives on her New Age retreats.  Show Notes That Time Byron Katie Gaslit a Follower about Trump | by Matthew Remski  I'm Afraid of Trump—The Work of Byron Katie Being Rejected for Your Spiritual Beliefs | Q&A With Marianne Williamson  Mindfulness can make you selfish: A pioneering new study examines the social effects of mindfulness  Marianne Williamson with TYT's John Iadarola & Francesca Fiorentini Learn more about your ad choices.
