Welcome to episode #984 of Six Pixels of Separation - The ThinkersOne Podcast. Steve Pratt knows how to earn attention - and not in the algorithm-chasing, trend-hopping way most marketers talk about it. As the co-founder of Pacific Content (the first agency dedicated to branded podcasts), Steve helped pioneer a model for long-form brand storytelling that respected the audience as much as it served the client. Before podcasting was a thing brands took seriously, Steve was guiding companies like Slack, Facebook, Shopify, BMW, Adobe, and Charles Schwabinto a new kind of media - one built on trust, consistency, and real creative value. That experience forms the foundation of his new book, Earn It - Unconventional Strategies For Brave Marketers. In this conversation, he unpacks why so many marketers are stuck in short-term thinking, how performance marketing is cannibalizing brand, and what it really takes to build content worth someone's time. There's insight here on the difference between being loud and being relevant, on why the future belongs to brave brands with a point of view, and how AI may flood the market with content - but only humans can still make something remarkable. Steve's career started in TV production, moved through digital innovation at CBC, and has now landed at the intersection of creativity, business strategy, and media design with his newest venture, The Creativity Business. His message is simple: the only brands that win long-term are the ones willing to put in the work, respect the audience, and be consistently great over time. For anyone wrestling with content strategy, podcasting, or how to think like a media company - this one's a masterclass. Enjoy the conversation... Running time: 1:00:53. Are we thinking about persecuted Christians incorrectly? What should our and the church's response be? In this episode of The Missions Podcast, Alex and Scott talk with Andy Coleman, president of the Christian Emergency Alliance and author of the new book In Days of Darkness: A Manual for Ordinary Christians Facing Unusual Times. The discussion explores the realities of Christian persecution worldwide, especially in regions like Syria and Nigeria, and how Western believers should respond both spiritually and practically. Coleman, who has years of on-the-ground experience in conflict zones, offers a measured, informed perspective that resists both sensationalism and apathy. Coleman emphasizes the need for “connective tissue” in the global Church—awareness, prayer, and meaningful support between believers in safer contexts and those in peril. He discusses the nuanced and often hidden complexities of persecution, where violence is often localized, and government complicity or neglect plays a key role. The conversation also introduces his book, which seeks to equip everyday Christians to stand firm and act faithfully amid increasing pressures, both abroad and closer to home. Key Points Understanding Persecution Without Sensationalism What's Happening to Christians in Syria Analyzing the Intense Persecution Crisis in Nigeria The Role of the Church with Persecuted Brothers and Sisters Book Highlight: In Days of Darkness: A Manual for Ordinary Christians Facing Unusual Times Do you love The Missions Podcast? Tom Bodrovics welcomes back Bob Coleman from Idaho Armored Vaults. They explore current trends and insights in the precious metals markets. With gold and silver reaching record highs, excitement for investors should be palpable, but retail participation remains low due to factors like premiums and negative sentiment. High net worth individuals continue driving demand and the impacts of Indian gold and silver imports and buying activity was also discussed. The conversation delves into the dynamics between managed money funds and swap dealers, the role of options markets, and the shift from COMEX to ETFs for investment. Bob also examines recent changes in margin requirements by the CME and their potential impact on market trends. Coleman emphasizes the importance of understanding dealer business models and avoiding sensational and fear-based reasons for buying precious metals. He warned against manipulative dealers, inflating prices through social media tactics, and advises careful reading of storage agreements. Coleman further discusses physical precious metals demand from high net worth individuals due to tax planning, estate planning, counterparty risk concerns, and potential election policies. However, lease rates pulling back and increasing COMEX inventories indicates lower physical demand. Coleman also cautioned investors about overly sensational or fear-based reasons for buying precious metals. Investors should be cautious of agreements that move liability to the client. He emphasizes the importance of being prepared for market volatility, consider taking profits or protective measures, and understanding spot dealer practices. The David Alliance

Garth Heckman  The David Alliance TDAgiantslayer@gmail.com   Fear not…   The media sells fear…   1. Increased Engagement: Fear is a powerful emotion that can drive audience engagement. When people feel scared or anxious, they are more likely to pay attention to news stories, click on articles, or watch videos. This increased engagement can lead to higher viewership, listenership, or readership, which can translate into more ad revenue. 2. Sensationalism and Clickbait: Fear-inducing headlines and stories can be more sensational, making them more likely to be shared and clicked on. This can help media outlets increase their reach and attract new audiences. Additionally, fear-based content can be used to create clickbait headlines, which can drive traffic to websites or social media pages. 3. Agenda-Setting: Media outlets can use fear to shape public opinion and influence policy decisions. By focusing on certain issues or threats, they can create a sense of urgency and prioritize them in the minds of the public. This can put pressure on politicians and policymakers to address these issues, even if they may not be the most pressing or important problems facing society.     3 ingredients for fire Fuel - crisis  Heat - uncertain times Oxygen - Fear   Fuel - crisis - Fear not… welp… there goes the fuel. No need to worry about a fire without fuel.   Heat - uncertain times - If you live your life daily for Christ… there are no uncertain times. He is in control who prays daily to the father… because the father is in control.    Oxygen - Fear - this is what you breathe and its what others breathe. When you live with fools you live foolishly… when you live with those who fear… they breathe oxygen into your fear making it hotter and hotter… Do you remember the scene in Castaway with Tom Hanks when he is trying to make a fire… he is rubbing a stick numerous ways and is just about to give up when the stick cracks open leaving basically a canal for air to get into and wa-la fire!  There are any cracks in your life where you let others speak fear/oxygen into your life… it will cause the fear to grow and grow… And don't forget what does fire do - only two things. Destroy and purify. If you trust God then the fear of this world will only purify your walk even more… and if not… it will destroy the peace that you have.

Every generation has its favorite bad ideas. In ancient Rome, wealthy elites paid top-dollar for vials full of gladiators' sweat, as they believed it could prevent signs of aging. (It couldn't.) In the 1700s, doctors told patients suffering with gout that drinking more gin would cure their disease. (It didn't.) Less than two centuries ago, most people around the world believed it was appropriate to own, buy, and sell other people. (It wasn't.) It's easy to cast judgment on the mistakes of the past, but what about our modern-day missteps? A hundred years from now, what will people say about us? Modern Heresies is a series of messages about some of the most prolific bad ideas of our time. From selfism (“I am the center of the universe.”) and sensualism (“If it feels good, do it.”) to scientism (“Science is all we can know for sure.”) and syncretism (“I can make my own belief system by taking what I like from many religions and worldviews.”), we have no shortage of harmful, false teachings these days. Join us on Sundays starting July 14 as we critique these (and other) modern heresies through the lens of the Bible.

Sharks have a bad reputation, mostly due to sensationalism and fear, however, they are important for the environment and play a vital role as apex predators. Shark attacks are rare, with the odds of being bitten or killed by a shark being extremely low and in fact, you're more likely to be struck by lightning.  We think it goes without saying, but Humans are the biggest threat to sharks through overfishing, fear-based killings, by-catch and of course being only partially used for shark fin soup. Sensationalized media, like Shark Week, perpetuates negative stereotypes about sharks, but social media influencers and conservationists are working hard to show the real side of sharks and their importance to the ecosystem. In this conversation, Sarah and Jay discuss common myths and misconceptions about sharks. They debunk the idea that all sharks are big and have sharp teeth, emphasizing the diversity of shark species and their different tooth structures. They also address the misconception that sharks are man-eaters, highlighting that most sharks eat fish or invertebrates. Chapters00:00 Introduction: Sharks and Shark Week01:00 Sharks' Bad Reputation03:24 The Rarity of Shark Attacks06:07 Sharks' Behavior and Misunderstandings11:03 Human Threats to Sharks12:23 Sensationalism in Media: The Case of Shark Week14:37 Changing the Narrative: Showing the Real Side of Sharks23:11 Introduction and Talking to Kids about Sharks24:36 Myth #1: All Sharks are Big with Sharp Teeth25:53 Different Teeth Structures and Shark Diversity27:22 Myth #2: Sharks are Man-Eaters28:42 Myth #3: Sharks are Not Important29:48 Myth #4: Can Anything Hurt a Shark?31:21 Myth #5: Sharks Attack People Often33:00 Challenging Sensationalism and Advocating for the Truth35:19 The Low Rate of Shark Attacks37:41 Divers as Advocates for Sharks40:32 Get Involved in Shark Conservation42:02 Closing Remarks and Call to ActionIf you enjoyed this episode and want to be a part of this growing community, you can join us in a couple of ways: Subscribe to the podcast so you get notified when new episodes drop;Leave a rating wherever you listen to your podcastsSend the link to the show, ‘divetable.com,' to a dive buddy, your dive team, or your last scuba instructor.Share your thoughts with us by leaving us a voicemail here on our website or say,'Howdy!'Join us on our Facebook group, www.facebook.com/groups/thedivetable The Dive Tablehttps://www.thedivetable.com/The Dive Table Facebook Grouphttps://www.facebook.com/groups/thedivetableInstagram@thedivetableGardner Underwaterhttps://gardnerunderwater.com/Sarah Millerwww.azulunlimited.comFish Dive Surf, Inc.https://fishdivesurf.com/

Algorithms.  Shortened attention spans.  Competition from uncredentialed influencers.  In communicating science, even the best in the industry may occasionally fall prey to the siren song of sensationalism in an effort to deliver evidence-based information. Dr. Jess Steier, creator of Unbiased Science, emphasizes the importance of nuance in science communication and resisting the urge to make absolute statements, as very few things in the world are black and white.   However, Dr. Steier notes that this is a challenge on social media. She has learned that communicating science in social media requires a balance between sharing credible nuance and capturing people's attention. She's found that her more recent posts, which have a different tone and contain more nuance, are less popular because they don't elicit the same emotional response as her past posts. However, she feels strongly about upholding scientific integrity while still communicating empathetically. She also recognizes that the algorithm rewards more absolutist views. She highlights that meeting people where they are is crucial to communicating science effectively, but how do RDs handle subjects such as genetic modification, CRISPR, and pesticides when other supposedly science-based professional groups spread misinformation?   Listen in for Dr. Steier's insights and how she personally shops for herself and her family. Follow Dr. Steier at unbiasedscipod.com Facebook:  facebook.com/unbiasedscipod Instagram: instagram.com/unbiasedscipod Twitter/X: x.com/unbiasedscipod

Highlighting the irony of a media landscape that often indulges in hyperbolic language for sensationalism, we explore the inconsistency in their critique of Trump's rhetoric. The discussion delves into whether this reaction is a genuine concern for language's power or a strategic move in the continuous battle for audience attention. Please consider donating to the show: linktapgo.com/thedumshow Thank you!  #DonaldTrump #MediaOutrage #PoliticalLanguage #Sensationalism #bloodbath Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-don-t-unfriend-me-show--6012883/support.

Early in the morning of March 28th, 1979, equipment failures and a stuck open relief valve prevented the removal of heat from Pennsylvania's Three Mile Island Unit 2 nuclear reactor's core - an essential function that prevents reactor damage. And within hours, it seemed like things were on the brink of a catastrophic nuclear crisis. In the end, a true crisis would be averted... kind of. While the reactor's partial meltdown did NOT kill anyone... the media coverage of it DID nearly kill America's nuclear energy industry. Was that reaction justified?
