In this podcast, Gemma Creagh talks to Yousef Srouji about his film Three Promises, which is screening at Docs Ireland (18 - 23 June 2024). While the Israeli army retaliates against the second intifada in the West Bank in the early 2000s, a mother films her family's daily life, punctuated by time spent sheltering in the basement. Her son revisits this past, delivering a heart-breaking film that conveys the anguish of children and their parents who are forced to choose between safety and emotional upheaval. The devastating and intimate film revolves around three critical moments when Suha negotiates her family's safety with God amid the abandonment of dear friends, her son's fleeting childhood, her daughter's mistrust, and directly facing her own mortality. Three Promises screens as part of a double bill alongside Between Two Crossings on 19th June 2024 at Docs Ireland. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever". - Psalm 23:6 Absolute trust in the goodness of God is at the very heart of faith. It is only because of his absolute faith in the goodness of God that Job, in the midst of all his troubles could say, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”

In this episode, I make three promises to myself and along the way, I recount how one of my friends inspired me to enjoy exercise, how I went to college because that's what was expected of me (not because I actually wanted to go), how, during my year of college, my ceramics professor taught me an important life lesson, how I allowed Sandra Oh to convinced me I wanted to be a doctor, and learning to put my Mind-Body-Spirit Complex first. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

This simple series of promises is the most practical and powerful nugget or super-vitamin you can take personally and share with others. This works whether in personal, quiet medication or in a small group setting of active interaction.
In this episode, the three promises of philosophy are discussed. They are (1) therapy, (2) freedom, and (3) cosmological consciousness. They are evaluated in a modern sense to emphasize how we are no longer treating philosophy as a way of life and how we should change to treat it in that way. This episode is inspired by Villanova University's Dr. Paul Camacho.
Abraham was given a promise by God in three areas: (Gen 12) 1) the promise of the land 2) the promise that his descendants would be a nation 3) the promise that through his descendants (this nation) all the families of the earth would be blessed. Learning about Abraham and his story in Sunday School, in our reading of the Bible, and through homilies, these promises seemed like too much for God to accomplish, at least it does for us. However, Abraham knew that it was God who established a covenant with Him and that God is not a liar like men but that His words are true, always. This is why the Apostle Paul says today in the Pauline epistle, “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.” (Romans 4: 20-22) As already stated, for us looking into this great drama between Abraham and God, we would think it is impossible for these promises to come true because we look in our own lives and consider God has limitations in what He can do. This was not the way Abraham thought. He believed that God would bring to fruition the promises that He had declared. Abraham had a strong faith and did not waver but believed. Do we have such unwavering faith in God? Or do we always doubt God?

Exodus Chapter 6 Exodus is the true story of how God used Moses to deliver God’s people Israel from slavery in Egypt and then gave them the Ten Commands and the Tabernacle, positioning them to return to the Promised Land. In times of discouragement it is important to go back to the _________________ of God – and that’s what God reminds Moses of in Exodus chapter 6. The Three Promises of the Abrahamic Covenant: Blessing/ Greatness for the people of Israel “B” The Promised ____________ would be Israel’s forever “L” The ___________ of Abraham would bless all peoples (Messiah) “S” God Will Act Based on His Covenant with Abraham V. 1-13 Four times in these verses God reminds Moses that He is the LORD and that He has made irrevocable promises to Israel; Seven times He speaks of what He now WILL do for Israel based on His promises and their ___________________! God loves it when our prayers to Him are based on His promises! The Seven “I Wills” given by the Great “I AM” in Exodus Chapter 6: I will bring you out from under the _________________ of the Egyptians I will _______________ you from their bondage I will _______________ you with an outstretched arm and great judgments I will take you as My people I will be your God/ You shall ______________ that I am the LORD your God I will bring you into the land which I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob I will give it to you as a ____________________ We have to continually remind ourselves and our hearers that it will be worth it to _________________ God and do what He says! Time and time again Moses will have to remember His own faith in God, and his experience seeing God act to do His will. Moses will have to buy in afresh, and keep getting His people to buy in afresh. So it is with the leaders _____________. The “Playbill” of the Human Actors in the Exodus V. 14-30 This important genealogy gives us a good number of the participants in the rest of the Torah and beyond, with there even being a hint of the coming ____________! Why are a few descendants of Reuben and Simeon given before the details about Levi’s descendants? Now look at the chart I gave you of these genealogies. As we go along in the Old Testament, we are going to see many responsibilities given to the Levites, and _______________ assignments for the descendants of each of these three men Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. Amran took for himself Jochebed, his father’s sister, as wife; and she bore him Aaron and Moses. Later we learn their sister’s name is Miriam. Genesis 46:8-11 Numbers 26:59 Korah will be part of a ________________________ against the Priestly line of Aaron that Moses is going to have to deal with. We only here learn that Aaron’s wife’s name was Elisheba, but the Bible is careful to tell us that she is Amminadab’s daughter, and Nashon’s sister. That means she is from the tribe of Judah, marrying into the tribe of Levi. So the priestly line has a touch of the tribe of Judah in it here - Elisheba. King David and the Messiah, are direct descendants of her father and ____________! Ruth 4:18-22 Luke 3:32-33

There are many times we are disappointed in this world by empty promises. Jesus always keeps His word. He told His disciples He was going to be killed and rise again on the third day just as He began His final journey to Jerusalem. Knowing this, on Easter morning you would expect the disciples to be looking for an empty tomb and a Risen Lord. Instead, they were looking for His body. Why do you suppose that is so? On Easter morning we find three empty things that point to three promises that are found in different forms throughout the Bible. The empty Cross, the empty Tomb and the empty Grave Clothes all point to the promises of Forgiveness, Eternal Life and a Personal Relationship with Jesus that begins in this life and stretches on through eternity. These things have been promised, yet few really live like they believe these promises. Why do you think this is so? All this is explored in this Easter Sermon by Rev. Joel D. McMahon III.
