Brendan McFarlaneOn Tuesday we buried our friend and comrade Brendan McFarlane. Bik texted me just over 2 weeks or so ago to say he was back in hospital. He had been battling cancer for some time. A few days later the medics stopped his treatment. There was nothing else they could do for him. Suddenly and unexpectedly he was gone. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. My solidarity and sympathy to Lene, a mighty woman, and to their children Emma, Tomás and Tina, his brother Gerard and the wider family circle. His loss for them is immeasurable. For his countless friends and comrades his death is a deep blow. Fáilte abhaile LeonardLeonard Peltier was finally released from prison in Florida last week. The 80-year-old political prisoner had spent almost the last 50 years in prison protesting his innocence. Leonard is a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and he now on his reservation in North Dakota. His family and friends gathered to welcome him home. After his release he said: “They may have imprisoned me but they never took my spirit!” and he thanked “all my supporters throughout the world who fought for my freedom.” Fáilte abhaile Leonard.Taking A Stand. The decision by Uachtarán Shinn Féin Mary Lou McDonald and Leas Uachtarán Michelle O'Neill not to attend the St. Patrick's Day events in the White House and the Speakers lunch on Capitol Hill, will undoubtedly upset some of our friends across Irish America. This is very understandable. Sinn Féin's access to successive US administrations was won after decades of very hard work by many people across North America. Understandably they do not want to jeopardise or lose that influence. It is worth noting that in the past Sinn Féin has always attended White House events when invited, including during President Trump's first term in office. So the Sinn Féin decision was taken after much deliberation. The catalyst for this was the recent statements from President Trump in which he calls for the expulsion of over two million Palestinian people from the Gaza Strip, his refusal to countenance their return and his proposal that the United States of America will take over the region. The decision would have been the same had a democratic President called for the expulsion of two million Palestinians.
More than two years have gone by since mass "Woman, Life, Freedom" demonstrations erupted in Iran following the death of Kurdish student Mahsa Amini. She was killed by the Iranian morality police for a few strands of hair escaping from her veil. Recently, the death of a 19-year-old University of Tehran student sparked protests and sit-ins at the campus. Our reporter Mortaza Behboudi has been meeting Iranians who are carrying out everyday acts of resistance against the regime. From playing and teaching music, to advocating for LGBT rights, they are boldly taking a stand, whether it's on the streets or in private. For security reasons, the names of those featured in this report have been changed and their faces blurred.

Did you know that criminals can steal your home without ever stepping foot inside? Deed fraud—also known as title theft—is a growing crime where fraudsters forge documents to take control of properties, leaving homeowners and even renters at risk. In this episode of Life Along the Streetcar, we sit down with Lisa Nutt, a key leader at the Tucson Association of Realtors, who has been fighting to educate, prevent, and stop deed fraud in Southern Arizona. Lisa shares her expertise on:
If there's one guarantee in life, it's that we all will face uncertainty and struggles that challenge and grow our faith. Jonathan Isaac of the NBA's Orlando Magic learned this lesson firsthand. Despite being at the top of his game, he battled with anxiety, a season-ending injury, and media backlash for being the lone player to stand for the national anthem in 2020 during the Black Lives Matter protests. Yet, he would rise above the noise to discover another, very important truth. Miss last week's episode? Listen to it here. WATCH Stakelbeck Tonight episodes for free on TBN+ here. Every day, you make decisions about whether you will stand for Christ or not. In how we live our lives, the choices we make, the attitudes we portray, and the words we say, we are telling others that we stand for Christ, or we are communicating that we do not stand with him.Main Points:1. Jesus knew we would face a strong temptation to hide our light. When we are open and public about our testimony for Christ, it draws attention to us. We face potential rejection, scorn, and persecution. No one wants to experience such things. It's so much easier to keep our faith and our testimony hidden. After all, isn't faith in God supposed to be a personal, private matter?2. Unfortunately, this is a lie we have come to believe. Satan wants your voice to be silenced. If you can be intimated to keep your witness for Christ quiet, then that is the temptation you will face. 3. Today you'll have an opportunity to stand for God. In a conversation, at your office, with your family, or on social media, there will be a moment of decision. Choose to speak up. Choose to be identified with Christ. Don't hide your witness. You can stand for Christ, but do it in a way that is gentle and respectful.Today's Scripture Verses:Isaiah 7:9 - “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”Matthew 5:15 - “No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.”Romans 1:16 - “For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

David's Mighty Warriors 8 These are the names of David's mighty warriors: Josheb-Basshebeth,[a] a Tahkemonite,[b] was chief of the Three; he raised his spear against eight hundred men, whom he killed[c] in one encounter. 9 Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite. As one of the three mighty warriors, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines gathered at Pas Dammim[d] for battle. Then the Israelites retreated, 10 but Eleazar stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The Lord brought about a great victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead. 11 Next to him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines banded together at a place where there was a field full of lentils, Israel's troops fled from them. 12 But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the Lord brought about a great victory.

Taking a StandEphesians 6:120-14AThere's a battle taking place. It's a battle against evil, and it is becoming clearer to all those who want to see. The Coulee Region of western Wisconsin, with the ups and downs of its many ravines, is a good geographical representation of today's up-and-down, back-and-forth politics. But the voters there are really more like the adjoining Driftless Area—steady and moderate. The 32nd State Senate District is made up of parts of both regions, where incumbent Sen. Brad Pfaff is facing a challenge that will test whether moderation is still a quality rewarded by voters. And dairy farmer Hans Breitenmoser helps give us a final review of where the various campaigns stand when it comes to issues that impact rural Wisconsin. Shopping malls are increasingly becoming a hot spot for violence. You’ll recall there was a shooting in southcenter mall parking lot last friday and young teenager was killed inside alderwood mall - over the summer So what do we do about this? In today’s commentary brought to you by Wafed bank, Angela Poe Russell shares what malls in other parts of the country are doing and finds it a bit disheartening.
Hey listeners, I just wanted to take a few minutes to address some things I've been hearing about and thought I'd share a few thoughts that I hope are encouraging to you through this little bonus episode. Right now, our country is one of the most divisive states we've been in since before the civil war. Our world has been turned upside-down where good is bad and bad is good and no one seems to know what truth really is anymore. And this is having an alarming effect on our children and young adults, especially those who haven't been educated with critical thinking skills and that is having a disastrous effect on our culture. And to be honest, it can seem hopeless, especially for our children and grandchildren, and our nation's children overall. But, I've also heard that, as far as the election is concerned, many Christians are just sitting this one out. They are also throwing up their hands and saying Jesus is coming back soon so we'll just hunker down and wait for Him to make things right again. Wow! Talk about a hopeless stance coming from a people who have the most hope of all! We think that we have no position of power or influence so what we do doesn't matter. Well, I want to remind you that we are not helpless, and we certainly aren't hopeless. Y'all, we are called! In this episode I will share what we, as Christians, need to do in order to make a difference in our nation for God's glory. Find all the links at CarolRoper.org/podcast
Peter boldly addresses a hostile crowd at Pentecost, explaining the supernatural events by pointing to Scripture and declaring that the Jesus they crucified had been made Lord and Christ. His message, filled with courage from the Holy Spirit, cut deeply into the hearts of the people, leading them to ask, "What shall we do?" What do you want to be known for? And what actions do you take to be seen in that light? What lengths do you go to to avoid being misunderstood and viewed differently than what you want to be known for? What drives what you want to be known for, and what are your choices to uphold your desired image or reputation? Most of us have multiple internal agendas that shape our decisions and how we show up and are seen by others and ourselves. Our values, fears, and burdens, internally and externally, drive us. When we place our worth and safety solely in the hands of others, we go to great lengths to hold on to how we want to be perceived. Lengths that too often leave a wake of chaos, abuse of power, manipulation, and betrayal–all to maintain the illusion of control. We need more leaders who give us hope and reverence for humanity and others. These leaders do the work to build their capacity for discomfort so that they can lead with conviction, humility, and a deep sense of connectedness bigger than their personal ambitions or fears.Joining us today is a guest who embodies the principles we discuss on this podcast. Dee Kelley is a leader who leads with love and compassion, demonstrating the power of these qualities in leadership. Our conversation with Dee is a reminder that compassion and empathy are not signs of weakness, but rather, tools for personal growth and resilience.Selden “Dee” Kelley is a lifelong learner and a beacon of knowledge. With five degrees, his academic prowess is unmatched. He served 18 years as the Pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene in San Diego, demonstrating his deep understanding of faith and its intersection with personal development. A driving force in his life is to help others discover the rich guidance that dream work can provide for their journey toward health and wholeness. He now helps people connect with the power of their dreams as a pathway toward new insight, better decision-making and improved creative thinking.Listen to the full episode to hear:Why Dee wanted to open a conversation about the relationship between the LGTBQIA+ community and the church, and why he has no regrets despite the consequencesHow Dee came to realize that the things he feared in others were invitations for learning and growthWhy we need to commit to having hard conversations even when we don't know the outcomeHow a strong sense of values and identity apart from his position in the church softened the loss of his role and credentialsHow Dee's case sits in the larger context of faith communities grappling with and declaring how they will relate to LGBTQIA+ communitiesLearn more about Dee Kelley:WebsiteInstagram: @drdeedreamscoachLearn more about Rebecca:rebeccaching.comWork With RebeccaSign up for the weekly Unburdened Leader Email.Resources:The Daring Way™EP 02: How Self-Leadership Saves You From The Relentless Drive To Succeed with Dr. Richard SchwartzA Hope For ChangeWhy We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams, Matthew WalkerAstridWomen Talking
In this episode, Tudor interviews Jessica Tapia, a California teacher who was fired for refusing to use preferred pronouns and follow transgender policies that went against her religious beliefs. Tapia shares her experience and the three options she had: comply with the directives, resign, or take a stand. She chose to take a stand and was subsequently fired. The conversation also touches on the dangers of allowing boys into girls' locker rooms and the need for lawsuits to hold school districts accountable. The rise of extremists, neo-Nazis, white nationalists, and other hate groups is becoming extremely alarming. As fascism continues to loom over modern society, humanity's hope for a peaceful future is at serious risk. George Drost takes a non-traditional approach in taking a stand against fascist ideologies by utilizing the art of fictionalized storytelling. He sits down with Corinna Bellizzi to discuss how he uses fiction to convey resonating real-life lessons. George also shares valuable lessons he discovered by looking back on his own family history and the undeniable importance of rules. About Guest:George Drost is a man on a mission to preserve the art, culture, and stories of Moravia, a region in the Czech Republic that is rich in history and tradition. As the youngest son of John Anton Drost, who was born in Moravia in 1909, George grew up hearing stories of his father's childhood and his experiences during World War II. These stories left a deep impression on George, who has since become an advocate for preserving the memory of his father and the people of Moravia. Real-Life Stories - 17:59As I share this particular slide with John, Doris, and Bobi, these are individuals that are within the pages of the book. Rules - 26:38I wonder in a way if it's something that has become too entrenched in culture to think first in the United States of the individual and not of the whole because we have driven towards this individualistic success, individualistic perspective. Favorite Story - 30:22I wondered if there was a favorite story that you tell within the book that you wanted to share. Lessons From Father - 31:40As we prepare to wrap, I'd like to take a little bit of a how-to lens. What lessons do you think that your father left you with that you think are most applicable?
