In John 5, Jesus sets an example of what true and sincere service should look like. He established service as an act of worship to God, a signal of obedience and an act done for the audience of one. In today's episode I unpack what each of this fold of service means for a believer today.
The validation of ones ministry is the preaching of the gospel of Christ in all purity. Miracles don't validate a man's work. Miracles should follow a man's work but the message of Christ is the ministry given. No matter how many miracles one records if the testimony of Jesus is absent he isn't serving the Lord. Preaching Christ is indeed true service.
What a great conversation with a fellow service superhero, Molly Bruttomesso of Wunderkind, a darling of the digital marketing world that seems to be in a continual phase of blossoming.We covered a lot of ground around organizational culture, professional growth, true customer support, and more, so I definitely recommend this episode if you are a service leader or a service professional looking to grow into your potential. Some of the points we covered included:The importance of supporting the individuality and humanity of your team.Honoring the particular strengths of your people reveals that the bubbly personality traits that are stereotypically associated with service are not necessarily what determines a great professional (and how, in fact, the opposite is often true).How setting weekly mantras can be more effective than weekly goals.How true professional growth sometimes doesn't require seeking the next promotion.Mindfulness and meditation practices that are actually relevant to the workplace (and life in general).Roads That Lead to MollyConnect w/ Molly (LinkedIn)Work for Wunderkind - they are growing and need awesome people like you!Go Deeper Into the Mindful Service Movement:Subscribe/Review on i-TunesGet Access to the live workshops and master the service mindsetJoin the Facebook CommunityFollow Me on InstagramConnect with me on LinkedInCheck out my partnership with The Institute for Organizational Mindfulness

Jesus said that the greatest commandment was to love God unreservedly, and to love one’s neighbor as themselves. And when defining the term neighbor, Jesus shares a most amazing parable that causes His audience (and us) to re-examine the definition of service. On Sunday, we will learn how Jesus defines true service, and how we can work with God as He uses our acts of service to draw people closer to Him.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24;

I love my country and what this country stands for. I truly appreciate what I have today. In 2002, when my journey into recovery began, I would never have even imagined that what I have today was even possible in having and becoming who I am was even someone I would ever find. I am at peace with things and I believe it stems from my ability to just roll with the punches today. I appreciate the freedom that I have but freedom doesn't come free and freedom requires sacrifice. For those that feel you don't have all of the freedom you desire all of the time, think about this quote I read from a sergeant in the military: He said to the recruits in boot camp. “Think of it as you temporarily giving up some of your freedoms so that others can have theirs.”What are you sacrificing? John F. Kennedy's inaugural address inspired people to see the importance of civic action and public service. He said “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country,” This challenged every American to contribute in some way to the public good.Please stay tuned for my guest today, who is a man of sacrifice. His name is Richard Kaufman and I am honored to thank him for his service to us.During my tumultuous teenage years, I had an epiphany to join the military because I had no goals or vision for my life.I was traveling from Oregon back to California with some friends and the other group I was with had mechanical failure in their 1960's Volkswagen bus. I was approached by some naval recruiters and just blew them off. Once I reached California, I decided that I was going to do it. My father was a radiomen on a destroyer during the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. I wanted to join the navy. It didn't work out the way because at that time they were very picky on who could join And having been arrested five times by that age, active duty wasn't possible. My recruiter told me that once I finished boot camp in great lakes Illinois and my school as I joined the CB's, construction ballions which was in Port Heueneme CA that I could request active duty, so I did. He was wrong. My military career was short lived and actually, I could say that I absconded from my monthly duty because I returned to the same life I was living on drugs, running around with the grateful dead, I wouldn't have passed a drug test. I was able to slide through with a medical discharge because I had a grand mall seizure in 1994 that I was able to use as the reason I did not make it. but I gained an enormous appreciation for the military.Our military watches out for us everyday and when something goes wrong, they are ready. In 2001, and so many of us remember that day of September 11 we were attacked with 2996 people dying between the planes, bystanders, Twin Towers, and the pentagon. That is 593 more people that died then the last major attack on our land. December 7, 1941. The Japanese attack on pearl harbor.

With the rise of political correctness and a greater awareness of what’s appropriate, I’m seeing a lot of really powerful leaders and good hearted human beings becoming acutely aware of not wanting to upset people. So much so that the line between true service and lip service has become blurred. The desire to not offend comes from a good place but when is it ok to be upfront with your truth, and when should you let things be? In this episode, I discuss the difference between actual service and something that will never really help anybody, lip service. I talk about setting boundaries and why they help you operate out of overflow and be of true service to others. I also share a story from my personal experience and discuss holding a powerful space in discomfort to be ok with confrontation and potentially disappointing people. What does it mean to truly serve someone? Is it telling them what they want to hear? Or is it sharing from a higher perspective which they may reject but continuing to be loyal to the truth anyway? As I recorded this episode I reflected on what today means. It is a day to honor Martin Luther King Jr., but this year today has so much more meaning. Listen as I explore the idea of being anti-racist vs. just being not racist. Walk the path of exploring how we have live by the words of Dr. King in our business. Because ultimately, business is about service to others. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'” Have you thought about this question? What are you doing for others? How are you serving others? How is your business answering the call to serve and the call to not be complacent when it comes to social issues and current events?

"Be kind, for everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about."-Ian McLarenThis is a very important discussion for both individual service professionals looking to bring more mindfulness and inspiration to their work and for leaders that want to elevate their team's culture and effectiveness. The organizational space needs more people like Neal Woodson (but human beings with missions like his are rare indeed). He's a coach and consummate service fire-lighter. He's the author of The Uncomplicated Coach and is a powerful resource for service-based companies that want to take their service game to the next level. We talk about service from the micro all the way to the macro levels, but ultimately kept returning to the same principles: good service requires the people serving to feel valued, engaged and, well, like dignified human beings. And to always have opportunities to practice service on each other.This was such a valuable and timely discussion that it inspired me to make up a term: intra-service! What does it mean? Listen and find out! Also discussed:The profound difference between knowledge and knowledge delivered with care."Bartenders are the best psychologists" is true...in very unexpected ways.How to make the most "menial" job a true craft.Coaching isn't teaching, but guiding someone to their own brilliance. How organizations can weave coaching principles into their daily operations by asking three powerful questions to their staff.Why service lacks mindfulness and inspiration - and how to re-ignite it when it's lost.Recommended Pairings:Podcast Episodes: Bringing Humanity Back to Large-Scale Service (pt. 1) Bringing Humanity Back to Large-Scale Service (pt. 2) Neal's Situation:Neal's WebsiteGet Neal's book The Uncomplicated CoachNeal on TwitterNeal on LinkedInGo Deeper Into The Mindful Service Movement:Explore The Book ToC w/ Live Content LinksJoin the Facebook Community & Bring Us Your Service Struggles & Insights!Follow Me on Instagram & Learn Mindful Ninja MovesSubscribe/Review on i-Tunes & Support the showCheck out my partnership with The Institute for Organizational Mindfulness

Matthew 20:20-28 “The Discipline of Service and Giving: Downward Mobility” 20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. 21 And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Say that these two sons of mine are to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.” 22 Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” 23 He said to them, “You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” 24 And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (ESV) Introduction: I. Although it is heartening to note the growing worldwide interest in building sustainable communities for the future, it is at the same time disconcerting that so many of these community visions provide no place for the potential role of business within their working structure. What shapes and forms might business take if it were to be integrated into the community vision, with its implicit goal of creating a more sustainable, co-operative, meaning-filled future society? Partial answers to these questions can be found among stories of experiments in community business which already exist. Let’s look at two such stories, although there are many more to tell. The first is an experiment taking place in Mondragon, a small town in the mountainous region of north-eastern Spain. The other experiment is that of the emerging community business culture at the well-known Findhorn Community is northern Scotland. These two examples serve to illustrate that success stories in alternative ways of doing business do exist. The details of exactly how they are different is explored.
