I greet you in Jesus' precious name!It is Saturday morning, 29th November 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to the Gospel of John 7:44-46 (Amplified Version): ”Some of them wanted to arrest Him (that's Jesus), but no one laid hands on Him. Then the guards went [back] to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, “Why did you not bring Him [here with you]?” The guards replied, “Never [at any time] has a man talked the way this Man talks!” Oh, what an orator! You know what an orator is? I looked up the Oxford dictionary - "a person who is good at public speaking”. Well, who was the greatest orator of all time? His name is Jesus Christ! When the High Priest's soldiers were told to go and arrest Him and they heard Him speaking, they couldn't touch Him. They said, ”We have never ever heard a man speak like this before.”I've got a book, it's called ”Speeches That Changed The World”, and it's got the most famous speeches, right from the beginning, right up until now, all kinds of speeches, good ones, bad ones, ugly ones. We just think of Abraham Lincoln. He said, ”Government of the people, by the people, for the people.” Then we look at Winston Churchill during the Second World War, he said, ”Blood, toil, tears and sweat. We shall fight on the beaches, but we will never give up.” Prime Minister Nehru, at the Independence of India said, ”At the stroke of the midnight hour, India will awake.” Then we think of John F Kennedy. He said, "Ask not what your country can do for you. Rather ask what you can do for your country.” But I want to tell you about my friend, Jesus Christ. He spoke to me, almost audibly, through a man, not even a preacher, we're talking about laymen. They came to our little church and started to tell us about Jesus, and it was like my eyes were opened for the first time and Jesus said, ”Come to me, all of you who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls”Today, listen to the greatest speaker who has ever lived upon the earth. He saved my soul. He can save your soul today if you will open your spiritual ears and listen to what He wants to tell you.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day.Goodbye.

The Columbia Workshop ||The Fall of the City || Broadcast: April 11, 1937Written by Archibald MacLeish, is the first American verse play written for radio. The 30-minute radio play was first broadcast April 11, 1937, at 7 p.m. ET over the Columbia Broadcasting System (today CBS) as part of the Columbia Workshop radio series. The cast featured Orson Welles and Burgess Meredith. Music was composed and directed by Bernard Herrmann. It is an allegory on the rise of Fascism.Cast of characters:House Jameson as Studio Director; Orson Welles as Announcer; Adelaide Klein as Dead Woman; Carleton Young as 1st Messenger; Burgess Meredith as Orator; Dwight Weist as 2nd Messenger; Edgar Stehli as Priest; William Pringle as General; Guy Repp, Brandon Peters, Karl Swenson, Dan Davies, and Kenneth Delmar as Antiphonal ChorusProduction:This section possibly contains original research. Please improve it by verifying the claims made and adding inline citations. Statements consisting only of original research should be removed. The play was broadcast live from the drill hall of the Seventh Regiment Armory in Manhattan, New York. The site was chosen for the acoustic properties needed for the production. The principal director was Irving Reis who was also the producer. Music was composed and directed by Bernard Herrmann, music director of the Columbia Workshop. William N. Robson was responsible for crowd supervision; Brewster Morgan was editorial supervisor; and the stage manager was Earle McGill. The production involved the construction of a soundproof isolation booth for Welles. Two hundred extras were used for the crowds, drawn from New York University students, New Jersey high school students and boys clubs. To simulate a crowd of 10,000, Reis recorded the sounds of the extras during rehearsals, including their shouts. During the actual performance, these recordings were played at four different locations in the Armory; the recordings were played at slightly different speeds to give the effect of a larger crowd.: : : : :My other podcast channels include: MYSTERY x SUSPENSE -- DRAMA X THEATER -- SCI FI x HORROR -- COMEDY x FUNNY HA HA -- VARIETY X ARMED FORCES.Subscribing is free and you'll receive new post notifications. Hafsah bint Umar رضي الله عنهم (S5) Being the daughter of Umar رضي الله عنه, Hafsah رضي الله عنها was an excellent orator. Our messenger ﷺ once said: “The Badris nor the ones under the tree on the day of allegiance shall enter the fire” to which Hafsah رضي الله عنها said: “No, they will O messenger of Allah ﷻ” She quoted Surah [19:71] “There is not one of them except they will pass over it (the fire)”. The messenger ﷺ said: “does the next verse not say: ‘Then We shall save those who feared Allah ﷻ'”. Once, our mother Safiyah رضي الله عنها heard Hafsah رضي الله عنها say: “She is the daughter of a Jew” causing safiyah to weep. The messenger ﷺ comforted Safiyah by saying: “You are a prophets daughter [Haroon (a.s)], your uncle is a prophet [Musa (a.s)] and you're married to a prophet [ﷺ]. How can she boast over you?”. The messenger ﷺ then told Hafsah رضي الله عنها to fear Allah ﷻ. These incidents are not to be seen as faults of our mothers (a.s) - they are the greatest women of this Ummah. Rather, it is to be seen as the possessiveness they had for the greatest of creation, ﷺ! In 9 A.H, Khaybar fell, and wealth was coming in truckloads to the Muslims - our messenger ﷺ lived an ascetic life, and his wives (رضي الله عنهم) asked if they could have a little wealth to make it more comfortable…

In this webinar, Winston Brady, Kellie Scripter, and Matt Ogle conducted a model seminar for teachers over the opening chapters of Quintilian's "On the Education of an Orator." They presented and model best practices for seminar teaching and the kinds of habits, disposition, and overall love of learning teachers need to encourage in their students. That way, students and teachers alike can get the most out of reading these significant texts.Quintilian lived from 35 to 100 AD and wrote an influential treatise on education, the aptly-titled "On the Education of an Orator." The work is one of a precious few on education and teaching from the ancient world and covers a wide variety of topics to equip a Roman boy to become an orator, a student "not (merely) blameless in morals only" but also equipped with "every excellence of mind."The work is subsequently ideal for classical educators to read to remind ourselves of the goals of classical education and how we can bring out the very best in our students.

As a spy for the Union, Galloway ventured deep into Confederate territory, risking everything to bring critical intelligence back to the North. But who was this enigmatic figure, and why has history largely forgotten his extraordinary contributions? Beyond his exploits as a spy, Galloway emerged as a formidable force in the fight for civil rights, becoming one of the first African Americans elected to the North Carolina legislature during Reconstruction. This episode not only uncovers Galloway's pivotal role in shaping the outcome of the Civil War but also celebrates his enduring legacy as a pioneer in the struggle for equality. Daniel Webster -- Perhaps History's Greatest Orator -- Turned Virginians and New Yorkers Into Americans

When the United States was founded in 1776, its citizens didn't think of themselves as “Americans.” They were New Yorkers or Virginians or Pennsylvanians. It was decades later that the seeds of American nationalism—identifying with one's own nation and supporting its broader interests—began to take root. But what kind of nationalism should Americans embrace? The state-focused and racist nationalism of Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson? Or the belief that the U.S. Constitution made all Americans one nation, indivisible, which Daniel Webster and others espoused? Today's guest is Joel Richard Paul, author of Indivisible: Daniel Webster and the Birth of American Nationalism. We look at the story of how Webster, a young New Hampshire attorney turned politician, rose to national prominence through his powerful oratory and unwavering belief in the United States and captured the national imagination. In his speeches, on the floors of the House and Senate, in court, and as Secretary of State, Webster argued that the Constitution was not a compact made by states but an expression of the will of all Americans. As the greatest orator of his age, Webster saw his speeches and writings published widely, and his stirring rhetoric convinced Americans to see themselves differently, as a nation bound together by a government of laws, not parochial interests. As these ideas took root, they influenced future leaders, among them Abraham Lincoln, who drew on them to hold the nation together during the Civil War.

The qualities that made Franklin Roosevelt great weren't things that he was born with but arguable the things that he had to learn in the hardest years of his life. Many thought of Roosevelt as the quintessential political natural. But the essential Roosevelt traits – his strategic ability, his gifts as an orator, his understanding of suffering and his own ability to ease it – were all born in the seven years he spent trying to recover from the effects of polio. To understand what made FDR a great president in a time of cascading global crises, you have to look at the lessons he took away from the greatest crisis of his own life.Today's guest is Jonathan Darman, author of “Becoming FDR: The Personal Crisis That Made a President.” We explore his searing struggle with polio, and how he emerged from illness with a strength and wisdom that propelled him towards one of the most consequential and ambitious presidencies in U.S. history. FDR's bout with polio transformed him into a leader with the compassion and courage to lead and motivate Americans through the Great Depression and World War II.Before polio, FDR was a handsome, vain, shallow politician who expected that things would always come easy to him because, up to then, most things always had. “He had a youthful lack of humility,” said his friend (and future Labor Secretary) Frances Perkins, “a streak of self-righteousness and a deafness to the hopes, fears, and aspirations which are the common lot.” Getting polio and losing the use of his legs at age 39 upended his plans for a future that had always seemed certain. It forced him to develop new skills – oratorical presence, strategic thinking, a sense of timing. It also helped him discover what suffering is really like and his own unique ability to ease it in others. “I would like to think that he would have done the things he did without his paralysis,” Perkins later said, “but . . . I don't think he would have unless somebody had dealt him a blow between the eyes.”FDR's experience taught him the practical necessities that people most require when they are experiencing adversity. For FDR, these necessities included clear, honest, detailed communication about the path ahead and ways to accurately measure progress; support systems that foster a sense of dignity, purpose and community; experts who provide advice but also promote a sense of partnership and autonomy in one's own recovery; and the ability to sustain optimism while also staying focused on what is achievable and real
