This is episode 69. We're discussing sex games. We're sorry. (Except Joe...Joe isn't sorry at all.) Sandi has joined us to try to provide a little bit of maturity to the topic; we'll let you decide if she succeeded. This is an adults-only episode (and we mean it this time), but we won't be offended if you decide to give this one a miss. Just come back next month, please? I promise we won't do it again. We find a series of weird connections between sex games and big wargaming companies - Columbia Games, Avalon Hill, and Victory Games - not to mention well-known designers like Sid Sackson and Wolfgang Kramer, and even Nolan Bushnell from Atari. Mike asks, "Is there anything more sexy than puns?" Young Mike learns about the irrepressible dynamo that was Dr. Ruth. A Brief Debate Upon the Merits of Identifying Breasts by Means of Nipple Shape An article about Lacerunner, which is not a game about sex and is not likely to ever be released, but sounds really interesting regardless. James Bond 007: Roleplaying In Her Majesty's Secret Service was designed by Gerard Christopher Klug (known as Chris Klug these days) with development by Greg Gordon and Neil Randall, and was released by Victory Games between 1983 and 1987, selling over 100,000 copies. It is long out of print but available on the second-hand market at reasonable prices (as I write Noble Knight lists it at under $15 for the core rules) though the supplements are usually 200-500% more. This episode was made possible by our patron and friend Christian Bickle, who chose the game for us to cover. Huge thanks go out to him for letting us create a really fun episode. James Bond 007: Role Playing In Her Majesty's Secret Service Join Josh and Brandon as they enter a world of espionage, intrigue, and dice-rolling, with Victory Games' TTRPG “Role Playing in Her Majesty's Secret Service”. A brief news item about Wizards of the Coast rebooting and retconning in their latest Errata to eliminate more insensitive portrayals and stereotyping from Dungeons and Dragons. Not surprising and another step in their reaction to 2020. It's a good move.  (01:19) A second item about Ernie (son of Gary) Gygax's new TSR and its nonsensical lawsuit against Wizards of the Coast for trademarks of old TSR content. They also were demanding removal of WotC's legacy disclaimer. Come on, now. Main discussion: 1983's “James Bond 007” roleplaying game from Victory Games. It places you in a world of espionage taken straight from the world of Ian Fleming's master spy: Bond, James Bond. You can play as known quantities from the movies such as Bond, Felix Lighter, Anya Amasova and others or create your own Double-O agent (or rookie). We also talk about our favorite Bond movies! Having a five-year plan isn’t always essential to your career. So says Amy Small, Global Head of VR at Framestore. Small has thrived in her career by being open to new opportunities as they have arisen, and those opportunities haven’t always been about advancement or promotions. Sometimes it has been the lateral moves that have proven most rewarding. Small is all about the journey, about having a satisfying and successful career. The Penn State graduate started as an intern at Disney before moving on to be a manager and director with companies such as THQ and Brash Entertainment. Small got into the interactive category with Victory Games, part of EA Games, then Skyrocket Toys before going into consulting and ultimately to her current position with Framestore, where she looks to expand past traditional gaming into the VR realm. Small has a love of new business models, and she sees VR as the wild west of technology, where she can help build from the ground up. Unlike some in the tech world, this only child is an extrovert who loves people and loves to travel. Travel sometimes puts her in uncomfortable situations, which lets her rely on her judgment and can be rewarding. Relying on people is another point she brings up as important – weighing dependents and independents and creating successful teams. Mentoring can be a strength if you find the right mentor. And even though she works all the time, she sees the need to unplug a bit to get refreshed. As a woman in a mostly male-dominated industry, Small sees the importance in loving what you do, in thinking sometimes way outside the box, and in taking that professional journey to get to a satisfying place, both personally and professionally.
