Statius and Virgil continue their conversation as they climb to the sixth terrace with the pilgrim Dante.Statius explains that he discovered his error when he read two lines from Virgil's AENEID. The problem is that Statius misquotes these lines and misinterprets them, making them fit his personal situation while pushing them through Aristotle's ethics.Join me, Mark Scarbrough, as we look at this wild passage that has inspired over seven hundred years of commentary. Óscar López, ministro de Transformación Digital y Función Pública, visita Las mañanas de RNE con Josep Cuní el día que se cumplen cinco años del decreto del estado de alarma por la pandemia. Por eso, el ministro ha empezado recordando y reivindicando a todos aquellos que sufrieron las consecuencias de esta crisis sanitaria sin precedentes, y, en concreto, se ha referido a los familiares de los ancianos que murieron en las residencias madrileñas. Tras la polémica suscitada por la emisión en RTVE del documental "7291" que recoge estos testimonios, López ha acusado al Partido Popular de "falta de humanidad" y ha reivindicado el "interés ciudadano en conocer lo que pasó" y el servicio público que ha hecho RTVE al emitir esta cinta, que ha calificado de "demoledora". López ha urgido a la presidenta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Díaz Ayuso, a que pida perdón y dimita, porque "es absolutamente incompatible gobernar con esta falta de empatía" hacia las víctimas, los cuales "merecen disculpas y que se asuman responsabilidades". El ministro ha apuntado al gobierno regional madrileño y ha asegurado que se ha demostrado con creces "hubo una decisión política que por supuesto se aplicó" y que supuso la muerte de miles de ancianos. Algo que, ha dicho López, es consecuencia de la "apuesta sostenida en el tiempo por la derecha para generar negocio privado recortando los servicios públicos". Según el ministro, "es intolerable que en pleno siglo XXII, en una comunidad rica, como es Madrid, la vida o la muerte dependan de tener un seguro privado". El ministro también ha respondido a uno de los temas candentes en los últimos días, el aumento del gasto en defensa para contribuir a una estrategia europea y cómo Sánchez está negociando con los grupos políticos este asunto, y ha insistido en que "lo más importante de todo es que este Gobierno no va a recortar ni un céntimo a las políticas sociales" al mismo tiempo que ha reiterado al compromiso del ejecutivo con la UE y con la OTAN. Nosotros agarramos nuestra cruz y seguimos a Jesús, con la vista fija en Él, ¡hasta el final!"

It's important for us as we read the fathers and consider the discipline that they embraced regarding our appetites and desires that we do not demonize these realities or fall into extreme practices. At the heart of the fathers' lives and teachings is desire; allowing the love of God and gratitude for his gifts to guide and direct their understanding of life and perception of reality.  It is true that the desert was every bit the laboratory; the fathers often pushed themselves in extreme ways in order that their appetites and their desires for satisfaction and pleasure would lose their grip upon them. They were often harsh with themselves in ways that seem abhorrent to modern sensibilities.  Yet they realized that these realities are very powerful parts of our humanity. The body, for example, through the ascetic life can be a powerful aid in our sanctification. However, if we approach our appetites in an unmeasured fashion, or in a way that is simply focused upon the self, then that which is most beautiful can be corrupted. Thus, our own embrace of the ascetic life should be rooted in desire; our sense of lack and incompleteness outside of God. Our truest identity is established and found only in Him. Such a vision must be fostered from the earliest years of our lives. For it is not something that one can give or share with another. It comes only through experience. One comes to love the disciplines of which the father speak (fasting, prayer, vigils etc.) because they are far more than mere disciplines.
