Enrico Palmerino is the Founder and CEO of Botkeeper, an AI-powered bookkeeping automation platform that helps accounting firms streamline and scale client accounting services. Under his leadership, Botkeeper developed Infinite, its core AI-powered platform for accounting firms, which was later acquired by Xendoo. Enrico leads Botkeeper's mission to help accounting professionals automate manual tasks, improve accuracy, and build more scalable practices. He previously co-owned SmartBooks and co-founded ThinkLite, and he also serves on the board of Fidelity Bank, has advised Geisel Software, and is an investor and advisor to several tech companies. In this episode… AI is transforming accounting, but the biggest shift is not just faster software — it is a new way for firms to serve clients, manage capacity, and stay competitive. As demand for bookkeeping rises and accounting talent becomes harder to find, how can firms use automation without sacrificing trust, accuracy, or control? Enrico Palmerino, a serial entrepreneur and accounting technology innovator, believes AI should help firms scale their expertise rather than replace it. He highlights how Botkeeper evolved from solving his own bookkeeping pain points into a platform that helps accounting firms automate categorizations, reconciliations, journal entries, document workflows, and practice visibility. By moving from direct SMB services to a firm-focused model, Botkeeper gave accountants a way to improve margins, reduce manual work, and support more clients without overloading their teams. Enrico also explains why adoption depends on trust, showing firms that AI can strengthen client service while preserving ownership of the relationship. In this episode of the Inspired Insider Podcast, Dr. Jeremy Weisz sits down with Enrico Palmerino, Founder and CEO of Botkeeper, to discuss AI, automation, and the shift in accounting firms. Enrico explains Botkeeper's move from SMBs to firms, how AI improves bookkeeping workflows, and why the Xendoo acquisition accelerated its roadmap. He also shares advice on pricing, profitability, and entrepreneurship.

Defence spending is rising whether voters like it or not. The UK has committed to 2.5% of national income and aims for nearer 3.5% over the next decade, £30bn a year for each percentage point. What does the country get back? Can defence spending be pro-growth?In this week's VoxTalk, John Van Reenen (LSE) argues that getting a return on investment based on innovation need not be left to luck. For example nuclear power, GPS and the internet all began as military projects. The spillovers can be planned for; the trick is to make defence spending innovation-rich, and make procurement work better.Traditional top-down procurement mostly produces lock-in: the same firms winning over and over. Van Reenen's study of a project at the US Air Force shows the difference: when it asked firms what they could build, rather than telling them what to make, the competitions brought in startups, generated more original patents, and spilled ideas into the civilian economy. He chairs the Council of Economic Advisors to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and is a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research and the NBER. His research spans innovation, productivity, industrial organisation, and the public policies that shape them.Research cited in this episodeCrowding in, not crowding out. Moretti, Steinwender and Van Reenen tracked industries across twenty-three economies over several decades and found that higher defence R&D spending raised private R&D rather than displacing it, with knock-on gains for productivity growth in the following decades. The SBIR Open Topics reform. The US Air Force Small Business Innovation Research programme traditionally ran "conventional" competitions specifying the technology wanted; from 2018 it added "open" competitions inviting firms to propose any idea useful to the Air Force. Howell, Rathje, Van Reenen and Wong compared near-winners with near-losers and found the open awards produced new military technology, more original patents, and civilian spillovers such as venture capital funding; the conventional awards mostly produced lock-in.Spin-offs from military research. Nuclear power, GPS and the internet each began as military projects before becoming civilian technologies; Van Reenen reaches back further to the claw of Archimedes, built to fend off the Roman fleet at Syracuse, as an early example of defence invention finding a wider use.The Draghi report. Van Reenen worked with Mario Draghi on his 2024 report on European competitiveness; he draws on it to argue that fragmented standards and duplicated procurement across Europe waste money, and that common standards and joint procurement would let countries specialise where they hold a comparative advantage.More VoxTalks Economics episodesIn January, Tim spoke to Moritz Schularick of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy about whether Europe can convert its industrial base into credible deterrence.

The conversation focused on how wrestling has become the most popular combat sport, surpassing both boxing and MMA in terms of fan engagement and growth. Phil, Joe, and Rick discussed the reasons behind wrestling's rise, including increased television coverage, the popularity of female wrestling, the growth of the RAF (Real American Wrestling) organization, and the development of wrestling clubs and programs at various levels. They compared wrestling techniques between folk style and freestyle, with Rick explaining how international wrestlers face an advantage by not having to learn two different styles like American wrestlers do. Phil and Joe had an informal conversation about Phil's recent activities, including coaching at a wrestling event where he saw Frankie Edgar and met Jordan Burrows, who runs a wrestling academy called All I See Is Gold that has joined Winning Mindset. Phil mentioned that Jordan Burroughs was impressed with Winning Mindset's program.Master Phil and Joe discussed the differences between Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano's backgrounds in combat sports, highlighting Rousey's extensive judo training since childhood versus Carano's entry into kickboxing for weight loss before transitioning to MMA. Phil explained that Rousey had a significant advantage due to her continuous training over 17 years compared to Carano's limited recent experience. Enrico shared his extensive wrestling background, including his time as a three-time All-American at the University of Kentucky and his achievements as a U.S. national team member. He discussed his coaching career, including his work with St. Joe's Montvale high school team and his current involvement with St. John Newman's in Florida. Enrico also mentioned his two sons, Michael and Rocco, who are currently wrestling at Cornell University, with Rocco being a freestyle national champion. . Joe shared his experience as a former boxer who transitioned to wrestling, explaining how wrestlers face different challenges when moving to other combat sports due to the physical punishment they take. The participants discussed how modern wrestling has improved significantly, particularly noting the technical skills and early development of young wrestlers like Jaden James and Bo Bassett. They also explored how wrestling skills transfer to other sports, citing examples like Christian Alvarez and Ray Lewis who used wrestling to excel in football. Shaped by extraordinary women, Enrico G is a compelling portrait of a man caught up in a web of ambition and love, prejudice and acceptance, identity and morality, where even a shared meal can turn deadly. For Information on Angela's other books and Projects go to her website below.Website: angelapage.netConnect with Host Terry LohrbeerIf you are a Boomer and feel you would make a great guest please email Terry with your bio and any other info you would like to share email: terry@kickassboomers.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2658545911065461/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/terrylohrbeer/Instagram: kickassboomersTwitter: @kickassboomersWebsite: kickassboomers.comTerry's editing company: Kenny Destefano LEAVE A REVIEW and join me on my journey to become and stay a Kickass Boomer!Visit http://kickassboomers.com/ to listen to the previous episodes.

What does it look like when a Google VP, a Flipkart CTO, and a 30-year technology veteran stop managing people — and start building again with AI?In this episode of SparX, Mukesh Bansal (Founder of Myntra & Cult.fit) speaks with Peeyush Ranjan (former VP of Engineering at Google Pay and Group CTO of Flipkart) about what's actually happening inside companies as AI agents begin to reshape how products are built. This isn't a conversation about the future of AI.It's about what's already happening — in their companies, on their laptops, and in the way builders are now working. This is a builder's conversation.Peeyush shares how he built Enrico- an AI chief of staff (AI agent) that has become the most productive “employee” in his company. With company-wide memory, a virtual board of advisors featuring Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Charlie Munger, Peter Thiel, and Sam Altman, and the ability to autonomously improve itself, it represents a new way of operating.Mukesh shares how he went from watching others build to launching a fully functional v1 product in under 10 days — faster than what a $100,000 outsourcing agency failed to deliver. But this goes far beyond productivity. They explore what this shift means for how companies are structured, how capital is deployed, how hiring changes and what happens when revenue per employee jumps from $40,000 to potentially millions. How to build an AI chief of staff (AI agent) for your companyWhy curiosity + agency now matter more than expertiseThe real risk of AI: intellectual laziness and cognitive debtWhy distribution — not innovation — is becoming the new moatWhat a 10-person, billion-dollar company could look likeHow to think about open source vs frontier AI modelsWhy the idea of a “non-technical founder” is disappearingThe gap between imagination and instantiation has never been smaller. The question is whether you're on the right side of it.Guest:Peeyush Ranjan : Co-founder Fermi.ai, Partner at Meraki Labs, Former VP Engineering Google Pay & Google Assistant, Former Group CTO FlipkartIf you found value, hit like & subscribe.
Enrico is back! Our "Fairy Godfather", Enrico has been one of the earliest supporters of this podcast and our original format of our not-for-profit (since 2011). He was also our guest on our maiden voyage, in episode 2 - back in May 2020. We get started where we left off in Episode 2, exploring a ton of what-ifs and why-nots. Enrico is a veteran actor – starring in Hollywood films, in Broadway theatre productions and in internationally syndicated, culture-making TV series. And in this chat we sit with Enrico as we know him: a guy from the neighbourhood, always in movement and always in search of bigger answers. We discuss the important hold of belief systems on our actions and the untraining . We learn about an out of body experience on stage, realignment with the what is, embracing the original moment and the danger of tribalism without the actual purity of the tribe. We hear ultimately about his thoughts on his last words on earth --- and about a series of recent books that vaulted him into a different kind of question-making, including the questioning of his own beliefs and has had him crave more about the idea of mission and home.
