Matt here, and I am going to be writing in the first person for this one. When I started this podcast, I don't know what I was expecting. Will and I had been writing the BatChat column for a while. Dan Grote and I had been recording the ComicsXF Interview Podcast (then WMQ&A) for quite a bit longer. I just wanted to talk Batman some more. I didn't know if it would work, and if it did if it would last. And here we are, ranking story 400. I just want to thank everyone for listening, out Patreon backers for backing, and Will and my friends and partners for putting up with all this chatting about Bat. We're going back to some anthology series this week, a favorite topic for us, with a collection of Batman: Black and White stories, a Legends of the Dark Knight from James Robinson (a favorite of mine) and Dan Brereton (a favorite of Will's) and a Secret Origins with some truly excellent creators. Batman: Black & White- The Gotham Knights Stories V.1 (Batman: Black & White Vol.2 TPB) Playground (Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight # 114) Original Sins (Secret Origins V.2 Special # 1) Check out our current ranking list at www.comicsxf.com/batchat-rankings/ Thanks to Geri Nonnewitz for our podcast logo Follow the show on Twitter @BatChatComics and support the show on Patreon at www.patreon.com/batchatwithmattandwill
It's time to celebrate! Matt's other show, The ComicsXF Interview Podcast, reached episode 300 this week. And so for that celebration, that show's co-host, the first ever BatChat guest, Matt's best friend of over 30 years, ComicsXF editor-in-chief Dan Grote is joining BatChat again. We are talking stories from three creators who have been interviewed on the podcast formerly known and WMQ&A (find out about the name change by listening). Those creators are Kelly Jones (with a side of another BatChat fave, Matt Wagner- https://soundcloud.com/dan-grote-754829938/wmqa-episode-280-dracula-motherfers-with-matt-wagner-kelley-jones), Joe Kelly (https://soundcloud.com/dan-grote-754829938/wmqa-episode-241-joe-kelly-talks-about-his-dad-classic-cars-and-sonics-feet) and Scott Snyder (https://soundcloud.com/dan-grote-754829938/wmqa-episode-125-scott-snyders-eternal-darkness, https://soundcloud.com/dan-grote-754829938/wmqa-episode-200-scott-snyder-helps-us-celebrate) Darkest Night of the Man-Bat (Batman V.1 # 536-538) Who Would Win? (Superman/Batman V.1 # 78) Nowhere Man (Batman V.2 # 19-20) Check out our current ranking list at www.comicsxf.com/batchat-rankings/ Thanks to Geri Nonnewitz for our podcast logo Follow the show on Twitter @BatChatComics and support the show on Patreon at www.patreon.com/batchatwithmattandwill
For the big, round, 300th episode of the podcast formerly known as WMQ&A, writer Jed MacKay joins the show to talk about Marvel's summer Blood Hunt event, his upcoming run on X-Men and much more.
WMQ&A/BatChat co-host Matt Lazorwitz joins Dan to talk about Pryde & Wisdom #2, in which Kitty meets Pete's father and sister, and a bunch of other stuff happens because Warren Ellis is throwing idea spaghetti at the walls in too tight a space.
The beauty of a Patreon request is you never know what you're going to get. And bless Dan Grote, co-host of WMQ&A and BatChat's first patron and guest, for coming at us with a request nobody expected. This week, we're reading three stories featuring Joe Potato, a Gotham PI who we read one story with a while back, and now we're covering all three of his other appearances. We have a story that does a Reefer Madness but with Ecstasy, Anarky makes Will really mad and a Pulp Heroes annual that totally gets the assignment. All of these served up hard boiled, even though mashed would have been more appropriate. Ecstasy (Detective Comics V.1 # 594) Anarky: Prophet of Doom (Batman: Shadow of the Bat # 40-41) I Was the Love Slave of a Plant Based Killer (Batman: Shadow of the Bat Annual # 5) Check out our current ranking list at www.comicsxf.com/batchat-rankings/ Thanks to Geri Nonnewitz for our podcast logo Follow the show on Twitter @BatChatComics and support the show on Patreon at www.patreon.com/batchatwithmattandwill

This week, Matt and Will are joined by the Carrie Kelly to Matt's grumpy old Bruce Wayne, singer/storyteller/myth scholar and previous guest of WMQ&A, Veronica Biatrise, to talk about one of her favorite characters, Poison Ivy, just in time for Ivy's new mini-series to debut this week. We have classic Ivy, modern Ivy and animated Ivy in this week's episode, and it's is a deep one, filled with stories that aren't too great but serve as a jumping off point for discussions that make this by far the most political, and queerest, episode of BatChat yet! Beware of- Poison Ivy (Batman V.1 # 181) Harley & Ivy # 1-3 Everyone Loves Ivy (Batman V.3 # 41-43) Check out our current ranking list at www.comicsxf.com/batchat-rankings/ Thanks to Geri Nonnewitz for our podcast logo Follow the show on Twitter @BatChatComics and support the show on Patreon at www.patreon.com/batchatwithmattandwill
Hey look at that! They said it couldn't be done, but we have actually gotten up to 100 stories on the big board! To celebrate, Matt & Will just... picked stuff they wanted to talk about. So this week we finish the Vampire Batman trilogy, we go back to the world of The Long Halloween to see what Catwoman was up to off-panel for most of Dark Victory, and in a bit of synergy, we read an all-ages graphic novel from creator Jeffrey Brown, the guest on this week's episode of Matt's other show, WMQ&A. Batman: Crimson Mist OGN Catwoman: When in Rome # 1-6 Batman & Robin & Howard OGN Note: with the passing of both Neal Adams and George Perez in the past two weeks, it's important to remember that many comics creators exist in a world where they have no safety net. If you want to help, you can check out The Hero Initiative, a charity that helps creators in their time of need, here: https://www.heroinitiative.org/
Write David Pepose makes his fourth WMQ&A appearance to talk about Savage Avengers, The O.Z. and more.
Episode Notes We have a special ComicsXF Feed Drop for you. Check out our friends at WMQ&A! Writer Steve Foxe returns to talk about X-Men '92: House of XCII, Archer & Armstrong Forever, and to play some '92 trivia. (Programming note: Since we recorded this episode, the release date for X-Men '92: House of XCII #1 has been pushed to April 13.) You can listen to WMQ&A on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, Spotify, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible and at ComicsXF.com, where new episodes move Tuesday mornings. You can follow the show on Twitter @wmqcomics, and you can follow Dan Grote @danielpgrote and Matt Lazorwitz @mattlaz1013. Subscribe to WMQ&A on Patreon for early access to episodes, thanks on the show and, depending on the tier, a free comic, a spot in CXF's weekly Staff Picks and early access to our new Patreon-exclusive bonus podcast, Our Son Pete, a deep dive into the comic appearances of British mutant superspy Pete Wisdom. Also, don't forget to listen to Matt's podcast, BatChat with Matt and Will. Our show art is by Adam Reck, and our logo is by Scott Modrzynski. Listen to past episodes of WMQ&A here and here.
When you back the podcast at the Jason Todd tier of $10 a month, you get to select a story for Matt & Will to read. As much as they don't want to read it. And this week? We get our first Jason Todd tier request. Previous guest of the show, co-host of the other show Matt does each week, WMQ&A, and writer/editor/podcaster triple thread Dan Grote decided that the guys have to read Batman: White Knight, a story Will has... strong feelings about, and boy after rereading it Matt does too. To go with this particular story, we have selected two other stories where the Joker is restored to sanity, if ever so briefly. Batman: White Knight # 1-8 Going Sane (Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight # 65-68) Luthor- You're Driving Me Sane (The Joker V.1 # 7) Thanks to Geri Nonnewitz for our podcast logo Follow the show on Twitter @BatChatComics and support the show on Patreon at www.patreon.com/batchatwithmattandwill
In a new Patreon-exclusive bonus content series, WMQ&A co-host Dan Grote goes through every comic appearance of British superspy mutant Peter Winston Wisdom. Dan Grote, Matt's co-host on his other show WMQ&A, stops by to talk about four stories (one of these comics is a twofer) of an all-ages Batman teaming up with other heroes. Batman: The Brave and the Bold # 20 Batman Adventures Annual (V.1) # 2 Batman: Gotham Adventures # 6

In our first proper WMQ&A podcast since March, writer Rich Douek ("Road of Bones," "The Wailing Blade") makes his second appearance on the podcast to talk about his upcoming IDW series "Sea of Sorrows," his "Gutter Magic" sequel, comics-ing in a pandemic and more.
In the latest in a series of WMQ pilot podcasts, hosts Dan Grote and Matthew Lazorwitz discuss the 2008 DC animated feature "Justice League: The New Frontier." Topics include whether we should like Hal Jordan, why Martian Manhunter is a good, good boy and why Kyle MacLachlan absolutely nails Superman.
Introducing WMQ PRESENTS, a series of pilot podcasts in which WMQ&A hosts Dan Grote and Matthew Lazorwitz dive deep into ... well, whatever they want, really. In this first episode, they talk about the life and times of that all-important British mutant, PETE WISDOM.
Matthew Lazorwitz takes WMQ&A on the road to Flame Con in New York, where he interviews writer and past guest Vita Ayala ("Prisoner X," "Livewire"), artist Rosemary Valero-O'Connell ("Laura Dean Keeps Breaking up with Me"), colorist Tamra Bonvillain ("Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur," "Once & Future"), Geeks Out President Nic G. and fellow podcasters Jay Edidin and Miles Stokes of Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men.
This week we’re talking with Sean Lewis, the writer of Image Comics’ “Thumbs” with artist Hayden Sherman. We talk about that series, as well as his previous comics, “Saints,” “The Few,” “Betrothed,” etc., one of which he drops a WMQ ‘sclusie on! Beyond comics, we also talk about Sean’s extensive work in theater and film, and how he makes time for all of it. Plus! We learn Sean’s favorite X-Men comic, and it’s a good one.
WMQ&A Episode 74: Age of X-Men by Dan Grote
In this episode, I speak with the infamous David Weck, creator of the Bosu Ball and the Weck Method. No stranger to controversy, David's mission is to make every step stronger and does what he deems necessary to fulfill this task. We (or I should say, he, as I only speak about 5-10% of the time) cover why he does what he does, the basis of Weck Methodology, the WMQ Certification, his time as an actor, who he calls out in the industry, the mission & plan to undergirdle the entire world, and plenty more. To learn more about the Weck Method, the WMQ cerfication, and/or David Weck himself, you can follow him on Instagram @thedavidweck or at weckmethod.com. For those who have been listening and sharing the podcast, I am extremely grateful and encourage you to forward this episode or the podcast to someone you think would like to listen in. If you feel so inclined to give the podcast a rating on iTunes, Soundcloud, Spotify, I appreciate the feedback and support. The podcast is growing at an extremely fast rate, so if you have any words or guest recommendations, send them my way via e-mail to jonathan@mental-jiujitsu.com or DM me on Instagram @majesticmirth. With that, please enjoy this episode of Mental Jiujitsu with who I call Uncle Weck, but who is also known as (in his own words), the Martial Scientist, the King of Locomotion, and - my personal favorite - the Glitch in the Matrix. As always, whether you're a first-time or long-time listener, thank you.
Artist Liana Kangas joins the show to talk about her new Vault Comics series, "She Said Destroy," with detours into Free Comic Book Day, "Avengers: Endgame," the best "Final Fantasy" games and New Jersey comic shops. PLUS, Joe Corallo visits the WMQ booth at Camden Comic Con to talk about A Wave Blue World's "Dead Beats" anthology (and to pick a "Saved by the Bell: The College Years" trading card), and Dan has announcements on our restructured Patreon tier, and how you can win tickets to this year's Garden State Comic Fest.
This week on WMQ&A, Dan and Matt chat with writer Fred Van Lente about his 2018 novel "The Con Artist," about a comic book artist who tries to solve a murder at San Diego Comic-Con; his upcoming Valiant series "Psi-Lords" and his past work for the publisher, and the criminally underappreciated Plastic Man villainess Disco Mummy.
Another holiday means another congress of the Three Amigos. This time around, Dan Grote, Matt Lazorwitz and Rob Lynch talk about some of the most interesting couples in comics, from Scott and Barda to Francine and Ketchoo to Wilson and Vanessa. Plus, listeners submit their own Valentine faves. It's worth noting this episode was recorded a year to the day Dan, Matt and Rob sat down to record the very first WMQ&A. Since then, Matt has become the show's co-host and Rob one of its most invaluable recurring guests. Together they form an unstoppable Voltron of comics knowledge and friendship.
WMQ&A All-Star Will Nevin (Wednesday Warriors) is back to help Dan and Matt parse recent comics news, including retailer woes, the new AHOY Comics titles and whatever the heck Major X is going to be. We also talk a bit about what we've been reading this month.
For the final WMQ&A of 2018, Dan and Matt chat with Anthony Marques, an artist for Dynamite and IDW and the owner of Dewey's Comic City in Madison, New Jersey. They talk about the year in comics retail, from bait-and-switch weddings to Batman's penis, his creative projects, including his short story in A Wave Blue World's "All We Ever Wanted" anthology, and whether "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" holds up (Spoilers: It does not).

This week on WMQ&A, Dan visits Farpoint Toys and Collectibles in Mays Landing, New Jersey, one of 20 shops around the world nominated for an Eisner Spirit of Retail Award. Justin and Penelope Daniels and Frank Mosentoff are celebrating their first anniversary in their current location and recently expanded their comics offerings after receiving an influx of comics collections. They talk about the business' history, their philosophy when it comes to selling new and old comics, recent changes in comics retail (Walmart selling 100-page DC digests, anyone?) and, because tangents are fun, Gudetama.
WMQ&A all-stars Will Nevin (AL.com, oregonlive.com) and Zack Quaintance (batmansbookcase.com) return to break down the past couple weeks of comics news, from Geoff Johns' new DC deal to the arrival of AHOY Comics. Oh, and there's a jingle now.
WMQ&A Episode 10: The Magic of Con Season by Dan Grote
In Colonial America, clergymen stood as thought leaders in their local communities. They stood at the head of their congregations and many community members looked to them for knowledge and insight about the world around them. So what happened to these trusted, educated men during the American Revolution? How did they choose their political allegiances? And what work did they undertake to aid or hinder the revolutionary cause? Spencer McBride, an editor at the Joseph Smith Papers documentary editing project, joins us to explore some of the ways politics and religion intersected during the American Revolution with details from his book, Pulpit and Nation: Clergymen and the Politics of Revolutionary America.
