On this episode of Challenge Accepted, Frank Lourence (@franklourence79) teams up with Jonathan to walk through Stranger Things seasons 1 through 4 so you are fully refreshed before season 5 lands. The two revisit the early days in Hawkins, the rise of the Mind Flayer, the Starcourt Mall showdown, and Vecna's terrifying curse, mixing clean plot recaps with personal memories and reactions. Along the way they talk about why the show's '80s nostalgia still works, how characters like Hopper, Billy, Max, and Eddie evolved, and what they hope to see in the final season. They close by sharing release timing details, how they plan to watch the finale, and why Stranger Things sits next to the best Stephen King style stories on TV. Timestamps & Topics 00:00 – Welcome to Challenge Accepted & episode setup Frank explains that this is a special Stranger Things recap segment originally from Geek Freaks, now on the Challenge Accepted feed, and previews the upcoming Bob's Burgers Thanksgiving special. 01:00 – Season 1 recap – Disappearance, the Upside Down, and Eleven Jonathan reads through season 1, covering Will's disappearance, Joyce's light communication, Hopper's first trip into the lab, the Upside Down, the Demogorgon, and Eleven's apparent sacrifice. 03:15 – What made season 1 a phenomenon Frank and Jonathan talk about the show's early "word of mouth" buzz, the glow of kids playing Dungeons & Dragons, and how Stranger Things helped define Netflix binge culture. 04:20 – Season 2 recap – The Mind Flayer and Eleven's lost sister arc Season 2 gets broken down: Will's visions, the Mind Flayer connection, Max and Billy's arrival, Eleven hiding with Hopper, the demi-dogs, closing the gate, and the Snowball Dance stinger. 06:35 – Reactions to season 2 and the "other test subjects" detour They revisit the backlash to Eleven's trip to meet other numbered kids, why the revenge-crew idea did not land for many fans, and how that may have changed the show's direction. 08:55 – Season 3 recap – Starcourt Mall and Billy's tragic turn Season 3's mall setting, Russian base under Starcourt, Billy's possession, the Mind Flayer's flesh monster, Hopper's apparent death, and the Byers family leaving Hawkins with Eleven. 12:45 – Why season 3 might be the best season Frank explains why Starcourt is his favorite arc, from mall nostalgia and growing independence for the kids to Dustin and Steve's unlikely friendship and Billy's late redemption. 15:20 – Season 4 recap – Vecna, Russia, Nina, and Max's escape Frank recaps season 4 in detail, including Chrissy's death, Eddie and the Hellfire Club, Vecna's curse, the Creel house, Eleven's Nina Project memories, Hopper's Russian prison story, and the massive rift tearing through Hawkins. 19:20 – Running Up That Hill, splitting the cast, and season rankings They revisit the viral Max sequence with Kate Bush, talk about how big and cinematic season 4 feels, and debate whether splitting the cast across Hawkins, California, and Russia helped or hurt the show. 21:15 – Nostalgia done right vs cheap reboots Frank and Jonathan compare Stranger Things to Stephen King stories and shows like Welcome to Derry, and talk about why "vibes" and visual language beat straight remakes of '80s properties. 25:00 – Looking ahead to Stranger Things season 5 Speculation about the final season, how the now-older cast will work, excitement for the three-part holiday release plan, and hopes for one last big, emotional Hawkins story. 27:00 – Outro and how to get involved Closing thanks, reminders to share thoughts on the new season, and all the ways listeners can connect with Challenge Accepted and support the show. Key Takeaways Stranger Things still holds up as a complete story about friendship, trauma, and growing up, not just an '80s nostalgia showcase. Season 1 set the tone with a simple missing kid mystery anchored by Joyce, Hopper, and the kids discovering the Upside Down. Season 2 expanded the lore with the Mind Flayer and Will's possession, but the "other test subjects" storyline remains divisive. Season 3's Starcourt Mall arc delivers the most complete season for Frank, combining great character work, a grounded villain in Billy, and a huge finale. Season 4 is the darkest and biggest chapter so far, with Vecna tying the entire series together and pushing characters like Max, Eddie, and Eleven to their breaking points. Hopper's evolution from troubled sheriff to adoptive dad and tragic hero is one of the emotional cores of the show. The series succeeds because it captures the feeling of classic adventure stories like The Goonies and Stephen King adaptations without copying them beat for beat. With season 5 on the horizon, expectations are high for Stranger Things to stick the landing as a modern genre classic. Memorable Quotes "They made this big mystery and you wanted to solve it." "This was the first time that binging became a thing, like a huge step for Netflix." "Max was a big introduction here, and you could tell they were setting up more seasons." "Starcourt Mall was such a good setting. That was the place where you had ten bucks in your pocket and felt richer than anything in the world." "Running Up That Hill broke the internet. That whole Max scene is just unreal." "It is not the same song, but it sounds familiar. These kids sound like The Goonies." What is up, Hellfire Club, I mean, Slackers? This week is all about Thanksgiving and Stranger Things 5. I'm giving thanks (even though some days it's been tough to find my gratitude) and laying out my final predictions for the season. More specifically, who's who in the ST dead pool. The Duffer Brothers keep saying they channeled the spirit of series finales that actually left us satisfied. And Return of the King. Weird, right?I believe them, but with stakes this high, not everyone's walking out of Hawkins alive. My quick, gut-level, not-exactly-bold picks:Robin? Safe.Dustin? Safe.Steve? Eleven? I'm not so sure. And what about Murray!?This show is set right in the years I was in middle school, so it's always felt lived-in for me and the Mrs. Watching our own kids get just as hooked as we were on Nightmare on Elm Street or any John Hughes movie—that's the real magic. Truly cross-generational.There are only a handful of shows that have ever really made me feel excited and nervous for the fate of fictional characters. Great art can do that to ya.Happy Thanksgiving, Slackers. Please, pass the pumpkin pie (the only pie that matters).
We are back so soon with a few new characters and adventures for season 4 of Stranger ThingsSo in 1979 which was FOUR YEARS before Eleven opened the gate and Will was taken to the upside down, remember that for all the scenes that ever take place in Hawkins lab for this season, they are ALL in 1979! Brenner is showing off to himself how smart he is with a crossword puzzle and then going to work to see how stupid he really is by kidnapping kids and "one" of them massacres literally everyone in the building besides himself and one other That's the hook In 1986, in California El is writing a letter to Mike, telling him almost nothing but LIES I guess girlfriends lie all the time too...Jonathon is on the POT, smoking that dank stuff with a marijauna plant that has gained sentience and started talking, they call him Argyle Joyce is a telemarketer now which is surprising given how many times phones have attacked her in the past... In Hawkins, Mike and co. are freshmen in High School and Lucas is trying to not get beat up all the time and Dustin and Mike are like, we want to get beat up even more... by this guy who we follow around like lost sheep and his name is Eddie (he's secretly super nice but its a secret) Eddie dances on tables and yells at everyone who can hear him and is just in general the best thing that has happened to the show since Eleven killed a bunch of abusive a-holesMax is depressed and I can't even joke about it because it's too REAL and I feel bad for her. we meet a cheerleader who is also going through a rough time So we get to see the worst villain this show has ever seen and her name is Angela. She's mean to El for literally no reason... El is talking about her dead dad and Angela is like "wait, he's a loser" and I'm like... someone kill this bitch asap Joyce gets a doll in the mail and calls Murray who is unnecessarily naked in a bath of ice... flayed? no, just sore after doing karate with preteens, the doll is literally russian but I don't see Natasha Lyonne which is disappointing Back in Hawkins Mike and Dustin keep getting rejected by people who don't want to play D&D with them and this is karma for what they did to Will last year The cheerleader (chrissy) meets up with Eddie in the forest for the best Disney princess meet cute anyone has ever seen (Eddie is the princess btw) he throws himself on the ground and rolls around in leaves as is the mating ritual of the 80s metal head teenager... (or 20yr old) She is charmed but still wants DRUGS, HARD DRUGS because this girl is losing her mind and seeing clocks in trees and spiders everywhere... girl sounds like you already had some... I would have needed to be on something this entire time if I were her because she is dating the worlds most boring ken doll, he probably literally isn't even anatomically correct... and he doesn't realize his girlfriend of forever is going through trauma but Eddie clocks it (pardon the pun) in under two minutes? wowSo there is a game, basketball and D&D and they are both intense and Sinclairs win them both and I honestly do not care at all about sports ball but seeing Lucas win made me literally feel like a proud parent... Eddie takes Chrissy to his place for some "special K" which i guess is a pill and not code for kissing (boo) but she gets snap crackle popped like so much cereal right in front of him and that's the end of this episode... wow

The Gifted deserved a better finale for season 2 than "oMens," and it definitely deserved a better series conclusion than this, but "oMens" is nonetheless the final episode of this show before its cancellation. Unfortunately, it's anticlimactic and clunky. We get to see all the plot points you would expect, such as the Mutant Underground finally coming together to face off against the Hellfire Club and Esmee Cuckoo betraying her sisters to join with Lorna, but it all happens so fast and with so little reflection on the part of the characters involved that it's pretty disappointing to watch. There's just one good scene in which John Proudstar uses his super-strength to beat up a shitload of Purifiers, and it's extremely satisfying. ONE SEASON LEFT BEFORE STRANGER THINGS 5!! Stranger Things Full Reaction Watch Along: / thereelrejects Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Aparrel! https://www.rejectnationshop.com/ With Stranger Things 5 on the way, Tara Erickson & Andrew Gordon CONTINUE their journey thru the Upside Down giving their Stranger Things Season 3 Episodes 7 & 8 Reaction, Breakdown, Analysis & Review! Tara Erickson & Andrew Gordon dive into the chilling and cinematic Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 1 in this YouTube Reaction & Review of the global Netflix phenomenon created by the Duffer Brothers. Set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, Stranger Things follows a group of kids as they face off against terrifying supernatural forces emerging from the mysterious Upside Down. Season 4 picks up six months after the Battle of Starcourt, with the group now separated across different locations, still reeling from the trauma of past events. Episode 1, “Chapter One: The Hellfire Club,” reintroduces us to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown – Enola Holmes, Godzilla vs. Kong) as she struggles to adapt to life in California without her powers, while Mike (Finn Wolfhard – Ghostbusters: Afterlife, IT), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo – Prank Encounters), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin – Concrete Cowboy), and Max (Sadie Sink – The Whale, Fear Street) continue their lives in Hawkins. Meanwhile, the Hellfire Club D&D group becomes a central part of the high school social dynamic, led by the eccentric Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn – Game of Thrones). Joyce (Winona Ryder – Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands) receives a mysterious package from Russia, hinting that Hopper (David Harbour – Black Widow, Violent Night) may still be alive. One of the most haunting scenes involves cheerleader Chrissy (Grace Van Dien) encountering a monstrous new threat—Vecna—for the first time, setting the terrifying tone for the season. Warframe is making its tabletop debut through a collaboration between Digital Extremes and Paizo, bringing the popular video game to the Starfinder Second Edition rules system. “Operation Orias” launches in October as a standalone adventure where players take on the roles of Tenno characters, facing off against iconic Warframe enemies like the Corpus and […]
The second-to-last episode of The Gifted, "Monsters," is mostly about moving chess pieces around the board. That is to say, all of the characters need to be in the correct spots before the finale. The result is kind of boring to watch, and there are a few scenes that get wrapped up in ways that don't quite make sense. Lauren and Caitlin are on the run from the cops, but their escape ends up being surprisingly simple in the end, thanks to Marcos and Reed's help. Reed is finally using his mutant powers, and it's going surprisingly well... so well that he has discovered he enjoys using them to kill people (RIP Wilson, Jace's boyfriend). Jace Turner still can't manage to get on the right side of history, but Esmee Cuckoo sure seems like she's about to. And of course, Lorna and Andy finally leave the Hellfire Club in this episode, a decision that was long overdue since Reeva's plans for world domination have become downright evil. In this expansive episode of The Narrative, Burning Bright and Matt Ehret dive into a layered conversation that bridges current psyops and historical revisionism. They begin by unpacking the Epstein saga and its weaponization in modern discourse, then pivot to reflections on the Vietnam-era counterculture, secret societies like the Hellfire Club, and the manipulation of collective morality through fiction and pop culture. The second half turns to the Founding Fathers, challenging the monolithic view of their unity by exploring fierce rivalries and philosophical contradictions among Jefferson, Hamilton, and others. Matt shares insights from his recent writings defending Hamilton and Lincoln, sparking debates over the legitimacy of centralized power and the tension between individual liberty and collective welfare. Along the way, the hosts weave in everything from the Watchmen's moral paradox to the timeless power of stories in shaping public consciousness. It's an episode that questions everything...past and present, and invites listeners to embrace the uncertainty while demanding accountability.
Multiple major characters die in "calaMity," the third-to-last episode of The Gifted's final season, except wait, we shouldn't call Sage a major character, should we? It's a damn shame what this show has done to her, and we can't believe how anti-climactic her death scene turns out to be. Sage takes the fall for Lorna's bad spycraft within the Hellfire Club, even though the reasons for her being the scapegoat don't make a lot of sense. The rest of "calaMity" is a thrill ride that builds up to Jace leading the Purifiers in The Gifted's version of the Morlock Massacre, in which a surprisingly high number of Morlocks survive, thanks to Blink calling Marcos (and not her ex-boyfriend John) to bring in all the ex-Mutant Underground folks with some getaway cars. Unfortunately, despite everyone's best efforts, it's Blink who doesn't make it out of this situation alive. But isn't she supposed to be alive at the end of this show? Hmmm... In the 18th century, Benjamin Franklin, America's beloved Founding Father, scientist, and diplomat, was linked to the notorious Hellfire Club, a secret society of elite British aristocrats known for debauchery, mock religious rituals, and rumored occult practices. Meeting in the eerie West Wycombe Caves, the club, led by Sir Francis Dashwood, allegedly indulged in orgies and blasphemy, with Franklin's visits sparking wild conspiracy theories. Was he a curious guest, a participant in their scandalous rites, or even a British spy using the club as cover? Some claim his involvement influenced America's founding, with whispers of Masonic ties and esoteric symbols in the nation's icons. Parental discretion is strongly advised.IN THIS EPISODE: Could it possibly be true that the three-fingered mummies found in Peru, eventually deemed to be a hoax, are in fact real extraterrestrial bodies? New evidence seems to say so! (The Mysterious Three-Fingered Mummies of Peru – Alien or Hoax?) *** In the early morning hours of August 5, 1962, Marilyn Monroe was found dead inside her Los Angeles home of an apparent drug overdose — but suspicions of foul play have persisted ever since. (The Mysterious Death of Marilyn Monroe) *** Within the span of about 80 years two terrifying beasts emerged to haunt the imaginations of two European communities. From the werewolf of Ansbach to the mysterious Beast of Gévaudan, these creatures blurred the line between reality and legend, leaving a trail of death bodies, and people who even hundreds of years later in these areas are still frightened to go out after dark. (Two European Werewolves) *** The Hellfire Club, a secret society from the 1700s, provided a space for high-standing individuals to indulge in intellectual pursuits and social activities without judgment… but it also became infamous for its rumored hedonistic behaviors and dark rituals, though its true purpose and activities remain shrouded in mystery even today – making the rumors about it all the more tantalizing. (The Secret World of the Hellfire Club) *** In 2003, Christine Paolilla shocked her Texas community by going from a bullied high school student to a convicted killer. It's a tragic story of friendship, love, drugs, violence, and murder. (From Miss Irresistible to Mrs Murderer) *** Oakville, Washington, a small town with fewer than 1,000 residents, experienced an unusual event in the summer of 1994. On August 7th, clear gelatinous blobs fell from the sky, soon followed by a mysterious illness affecting the townspeople. Despite various theories, from jellyfish particles to star jelly, the true nature of the Oakville Blobs remains a mystery, leaving the town and the rest of the world without clear answers. On the craggy coast of Wexford, Ireland stands a house with a reputation as grim as its weather. Once a manor of power and prestige, Loftus Hall is now remembered for something far stranger — a visit from a mysterious stranger, a terrified young woman, and a secret so dark it left an unfixable hole in the ceiling… and maybe even a body in the walls. This week, the Hosts dive headlong into one of Ireland's most infamous hauntings — where folklore, family shame, and the devil himself collide in a storm of spectral sightings and centuries-old scandal. From locked rooms and poltergeists to a priest's final showdown with something infernal, Loftus Hall remains a place where not even the dead rest easy. So grab your rosary, stoke the fire, and don't look too closely at what's sitting across the card table. Because at Loftus Hall — the Devil came calling… and someone let him in. Justice for Twist! Ryan and Maddy review "gaMe changer," yet another great episode for The Gifted's second season. The Hellfire Club has apprehended Rebecca and locked her up in a spinning cube, but when Andy tries to rescue her, it doesn't end well. The rest of the Strucker family figures out that the kindly doctor helping them actually has Moira/Dr. Sasaki vibes, which is never a good thing. Clarice and John are still arguing over what's left of the Mutant Underground, and Marcos is the depressed third wheel, although the three of them still manage to figure out the Hellfire Club's next move even if they don't manage to stop it. And what is that next move? Taking out the power source for every mutant collar in America. A very poorly guarded power source. Next episode: Listener mail!! Magneto is the most important part of "the dreaM," despite that he never actually shows up in person on The Gifted. This is another amazing episode and this time it's focused on Lorna and her personal journey towards accepting that she's her father's daughter, and that her own daughter Dawn is not going to be safe as Lorna and the rest of the Hellfire Club continue with their violent uprising against a bigoted human supremacist government. Rebecca, AKA Twist, runs away from the Hellfire Club and leaves a trail of destruction in her wake, although when John and Clarice find her, Rebecca actually does decide to help them, suggesting that she's not all bad. Reed Strucker, meanwhile, has decided to work with a woman who bears a striking similarity to Moira MacTaggert, and we all know that's not a good thing. In "no Mercy," the Hellfire Club is ready to perform their bank heist, but it wouldn't be a heist episode if something didn't go wrong. Maddy and Ryan feel like Lorna could have opened this safe herself, but it's Rebecca's job, and Rebecca doesn't just want to steal money from Creed Financial. She wants to steal... human lives. Meanwhile, Reed Strucker is still suffering from mutant denialism, and Jace Turner makes the tough decision to go on TV with a not-quite-William Stryker type character and become the face of the Purifiers. Paranormal Conversations are random, off-the-cuff discussions on all things paranormal. On this 27th Paranormal Conversation, we are joined by podcast creator and host Adam Lynch. He hosts The Weekly Creep with his wife Dulce and the Houston Strange Podcast, which is a podcast that features haunted houses, ghost stories, and eerie encounters in Houston and surrounding areas. Adam is originally from Ireland, so we discuss Irish folklore versus Texas folklore that includes the Houston Heights Batman, experiences he had at the Hellfire Club in Ireland and the weird and interesting theory about Living Ghosts. Can living people project their spirit or have their spirit somehow go to places outside of their bodies? Is that what Dopplegangers are? Join us for a fun and fascinating conversation!
