Franchise marketing is more than running ads or managing brand awareness. It's a strategic process that connects entrepreneurs, brands, and customers through trust, storytelling, and value-driven engagement. The best franchise marketing strategies help businesses expand their reach while maintaining the integrity of the brand at every level — from national awareness to local community relationships. Few people understand that dynamic better than Ali Kraus, Chief Marketing Officer at Benetrends Financial. With deep expertise in franchise development marketing, digital strategy, and brand building, Ali has become one of the most respected voices in the franchising industry. Her leadership reflects how marketing can not only grow businesses but also empower people and strengthen communities. By integrating creative strategy with practical execution, she helps franchisors and franchisees navigate challenges in visibility, recruitment, and retention. Her belief in collaboration and community has made her a strong advocate for empowering women in franchising, both through her work at Benetrends and her leadership with the International Franchise Association's Women's Franchise Committee. As an incoming Chair of the committee, Ali is helping pave the way for more women to find opportunities in leadership, ownership, and influence within the franchise industry. Her work demonstrates how franchise marketing can be a vehicle for change — not only driving business results but also creating a more inclusive and diverse community of entrepreneurs. In an era where consumers demand authenticity and connection, Ali's perspective on franchise marketing reminds business owners that success isn't just about selling a product. It's about building relationships, aligning brand purpose with customer values, and giving people a reason to believe in the businesses they support. For franchise brands and entrepreneurs alike, her message is clear: effective marketing starts with clarity, consistency, and connection. When combined with the right funding foundation and strategic leadership, those elements create a roadmap for sustainable growth. Introduced as ‘The Lost Colony', this is another episode of The Goon Show which sees Neddie Seagoon being duped by Grytpype-Thynne and Moriarty. In this case, they convince him that he is a Native American who rightfully owns New York – his ancestors having sold the land to Dutch settlers in the 1620s for a piece of brown string, eleven pence in notes, a Mickey Mouse watch, remains of a small boiled chicken and a life-sized statue of Sabrina. Seagoon paddles to America in a zinc bath tub and through a dubious transaction secures a Native American birth certificate. He tries to sue the US government, claiming New York belongs to him, but ends up in jail. Once free and bent on revenge he attempts to blow the city sky-high – but at what cost? Joining Tyler this week is writer & producer Tom Salinsky, whose new podcast – All British Comedy Explained – is an exercise in introducing British comedy to his American friend, comedian Abigoliah Schamaun. Abigoliah has lived in the UK for many years but her knowledge of British comedy history is limited so Tom is trying to put that right. At the time of recording they have covered Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Young Ones and Not Only But Also – all three of them game-changers – and coming up they will be examining The Goon Show, so Tyler figured it was a neat idea to get Tom onto discuss an episode which rarely gets talked about. The Sale Of Manhattan was broadcast almost exactly seventy years ago and while it contains some questionable stereotypes there is plenty to enjoy and it was a great opportunity to gain Tom's perspective on the series. WARREN CUMMINGS and I, perhaps unwisely, try to analyse some TV comedy.First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on November 16th 2025.This week, in a show we recorded earlier in the autumn just as VISION ON SOUND returned from its summer hiatus, I welcome back WARREN CUMMINGS once again, and we took the opportunity to delve deep into an area that is always a little bit outside my personal comfort zone, as we tackle the tricky little matter of television comedy in as analytical a way as we are capable of, as we consider whether or not some of the recognised classics from the archives are as enjoyable as we like to believe they are. This was prompted by me picking up a bit of MONTY PYTHON on DVD and finding some of it to be “difficult” to watch, and WARREN throws the somewhat problematical nature of some of SPIKE MILLIGAN's television work into the mix, before we move into a broader consideration of the comedy of a different time.Over the course of this hour we'll also touch upon some radio comedy, some TV sitcoms, and the work of metaphorical comedy giants such as PETER COOK and DUDLEY MOORE, as well as talking rather fondly about shows like ALEXEI SAYLE's STUFF, VIC REEVES' BIG NIGHT OUT, THE YOUNG ONES and the more recent work of DIANE MORGAN whose PHILOMENA CUNK is one of the more successful recent comedy creations.PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.

Ben Elton was instrumental in the transformation of British comedy that took place in the 1980s. His scripts for The Young Ones and Blackadder were fresh, anarchic, rude, clever and hilarious. The people that worked alongside Ben - Richard Curtis, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Rik Mayall, Ade Edmondson, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders - to name but a few - are legendary. In this episode of Rosebud, Ben talks to Gyles about his parents, his father's family story - they had escaped persecution in Germany at the start of the war - and how he became interested in comedy as a young boy. He talks about the process of writing Blackadder, which was sometimes tortuous, and what it felt like to be slated by the critics when We Will Rock You first opened in the West End.Ben's autobiography, "What Have I Done?" is out now and available here. Rosebud has a new website www.rosebudpodcast.co.uk and a new Facebook group - just search "Rosebud Reflections". Enjoy this! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Loose Ends this week is full of people who aren't afraid to say or do difficult things in the name of entertainment. The actor Nigel Planer will forever be associated with the character Neil from The Young Ones, so much so that Nigel's Mum thought he was vegetarian because Neil was, though Nigel definitely isn't. At least, he says, she remembered his name. His autobiography - Young Once - reflects the fact that brilliant though Neil is, Nigel has done far, far more than that as a poet, author and performer. Life merges with art, or at least comedy in Bryony Kimmings' new show - Bog Witch - too. It's all about what happened when she moved to the country, had an eco-conversion and found out the difference between a frog and a toad. Rowan McCabe's written about being a doorstep poet, who knocks on the doors of perfect strangers and offers to write them a poem about the things that mean most to them. Find out how many ways that can go wrong. Plus music from Mercury Music Prize nominee Emma-Jean Thackray's album Weirdo and from Studio Electrophonique aka Sheffield singer songwriter James Leesley.Hosted by Stuart Maconie Produced in Salford by Olive Clancy

They chat about how Neil and Nicholas Craig emerged from Nigel's real life experiences, why the American Young Ones helped to give birth to a major part of the Simpsons, seeing Laurence Olivier's dancing feet beneath the curtain and sitting next to Spike Milligan, how doing Evita ended up in counting the number of times Nigel put on his trousers and why We Will Rock You's multiple performances were more happily accepted, how his book is a love story to both his wife and the people he has worked with over the years, how a surprising number of the Young Ones went to public school, the Comic Strip reunion where Nigel sweated over the bill and the incredible experience of working on Yellowbeard. Teenage Tantrums in Revolutionary Drag!Welcome to the episode where we say the quiet part out loud: most people screaming “fascist!” these days aren't fighting tyranny—they're just mad someone told them what to do. This isn't about justice. It's unresolved teenage angst with better fonts and worse posture. We trace the long, pouty arc of performative rebellion from interwar purity spirals to the eyeliner-stained meltdowns of punk Britain, all the way to the Canva-powered outrage of today's terminally online TikTok militants. Spoiler: The Young Ones already mocked this 40 years ago, and did it better.Topics include:A historical tour of people confusing authority with oppression, and rules with war crimes. Why calling someone “fascist” has become the emotional equivalent of slamming your bedroom door. The timeless showdown between calling your dad a fascist (because he said no) vs. calling him bourgeois (because he owns more than one pair of chinos). How radical cosplay has replaced actual resistance—because you're not overthrowing anything, you're just mad the TSA won't let you vape in line. This isn't revolution. This is regression. You're not smashing systems—you're still fighting with the mall cop in your head.Glossary gems:Fascist: someone with a job and a clipboard.Bourgeois: anyone who bought a couch instead of setting fire to it.Performative Activism: self-help dressed as protest. The Young Ones: the satire you've been unconsciously quoting since 2005 without realizing it.So the next time you feel the surge to scream “fascist!” at the barista who closed early—pause. Ask yourself: is this resistance… or just another episode of “No one tells me what time to go to bed!”?Spoiler: It's the second one.And Rik's already done it better.

It's a rough ride on Eavesdroppin' comedy podcast this week, as Geordie and Michelle look at bad cults… If you were a child with scholastic issues or behavioural problems in the early 1980s in the UK, you might have been sent to a Red House alternative education facility. The brochures told of an idyllic boarding school where children who had suffered abuse or neglect at home could thrive in an environment where sailing and horse riding were interspersed with reading, writing and arithmetic. The reality was that the Red House schools were institutions where children were regularly beaten, humiliated, sexually abused and forced into slave labour. Listen now for Geordie's deep dive into Red House schools, the Danish founding organisation Tvind and a discussion about why it was a cult hiding in plain sight... Michelle follows with a look at a harrowing New Zealand cult called Gloriavale. Tucked away on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island is a religious group that was meant to be a spiritual utopia - the men worked, the women raised kids and everyone lived by the word of god and shared the spoils of communal labour. Dennis Greaves took a week off from Nine Below Zero in 1980 but otherwise kept his nose firmly applied to the grindstone. They broke up in 1983 when he formed the Truth, who broke up in 1989 when he rebooted the old band. He looks back here at the first gigs he ever saw and played – a world with the attractive scent of spilt beer and tobacco – stopping off at various points, among them … … why blues and R&B flourished in South London, police and villains drinking together at the Thomas A Becket and the folklore of the Old Kent Road. ... the great advantage of never having a hit. … taking his parents to see Chuck Berry in 1972. ... the lasting appeal of R&B in a world of processed music. … what he learnt from Glyn Johns when he produced them at Olympic Studios, “the man who invented phasing with Itchycoo Park”. … buying singles at A1 Records in Walworth – “Progressive, Reggae, Artists A-Z …” … seeing Blackfoot Sue and Scarecrow on the pub circuit, and the Groundhogs and Rory Gallagher at the Rainbow. … Pete Townshend watching Nine Below Zero from the wings - “you remind me of us in the ‘60s”. … seeing the Jam 11 times – “900 people in a 400 capacity venue!” … “getting gyp is good as you learn how to control an audience.” … 2am service station food and how touring has changed in 45 years. ... performing in the pilot for The Young Ones in 1982. … “the song you should study for A-Level Pop”. … memories of Mylone LeFevre, Capability Brown, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee, BB King, Muhammad Ali, Henry Cooper, Uriah Heep, The Little Roosters, Deep Purple, Gary Moore, Greg Lake, Love Sculpture, Free, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Alvin Lee, Dr Feelgood and Charlie McCoy playing Lady Madonna on the harmonica on the Val Doonican Show … … and the greatest record ever made! Did Sarah thrill to the artistry of Hustle's series premiere, "The Con Is On"? Listen, find out, and then (if you haven't already) join us on Patreon to tell us what we should watch next!
