I recognized Tim Lawrence's name from his great book on Arthur Russell. Jeremy Gilbert is Professor of Cultural and Political Theory at the University of East London and a prolific author. Tim and Jeremy have been longtime collaborators and when the clubs closed and universities cut faculty hours due to covid, they started podcasting.  The way I'd describe their show is, imagine the amazing college class you never got to take where you learn about the intersections of global dance music and radical politics, from the 1960s to today. They do shows on disco, Motown, reggae, tropicalia, funk, you name it with a strong cultural studies perspective. And I think the episode we're going to hear today is a perfect example of their approach—it's ostensibly an episode about Fela Kuti, but it's also terrific seminar on the Black Atlantic and the political history of Nigeria.  So thanks, Ben, for the recommendation. We're joined in studio by ASU offensive lineman Ben Coleman for a in-depth look at the work the program is putting in behind the scenes preparing for the 2024 season. Next up, Peter Boyle of Activate Sports Management gives us an inside look at new ASU AD Graham Rossini and how he conducts business. This week we are buh-lessed to have Nico Wolf up in our radio sphere. She is a wizard of the healing arts, oracular arts, group ceremony, Earth wisdom ways, and Dreamwork. She is also herself a dreamboat, like an actual captain-facilitator of the boat that takes you to Dream World, and just a totally fascinating human to talk Spirit shop with. We discuss working with dreams in a devotional way, exploring group dream work, and understanding the role of dreams in shifting culture during unsettled times. Nico steeps us in the waters of liminal artistry - as in, becoming more and more literate in the wisdom of the cracks and in-betweens places within the web of known reality.   This episode will be a dang HOOT for anyone interested in: working with the language of Dreams as oracle, solace, and world-building material animist perspectives and interspecies relating water as a grief portal, water as a dream portal feeling like a spiritual or cultural orphan questioning the role of spiritual lineage when lifted out of land-based context the big ole tangle of white-bodied people grappling with their own severed indigeneity and raspberries as dream prophecy

Last season was a struggle for the Arizona State Sun Devils football program in more ways than one, and the injuries were at the forefront of all of it. Perhaps no unit saw more guys banged up throughout the year than the offensive line, which had a different starting five lineup for all 12 games. It decimated what the coaching staff believed was a two-deep group of players and became a major focus for the staff to get reinforcements for during the offseason. Kenny Dillingham spent no shortage of effort to add bodies and talented players both through the NCAA Transfer Portal as well as the 2024 recruiting class. After yesterday's addition of former Washington offensive tackle Jalen Klemm, there's never been a more appropriate time to talk about the new and improved offensive line than now. Host Richie Bradshaw believes there is a slew of talented and perhaps high-upside players like Klemm, Bram Walden, and Ben Coleman to pair up with a plethora of other guys. Perhaps the offensive line could become a major strength for the Arizona State Sun Devils football team in 2024. The offensive line is always the unit most overlooked, but the Sun Devils' success on offense will hinge upon guys like Leif Fautanu and Ben Coleman. What if Ben Affleck amid "misses" Forces of Nature and Bounce, made a heist movie that had plot twists on top of its plot twists, featuring an unhinged Gary Sinise and a young (crazy) Charlize Theron? A recipe for success you might think, but Reindeer Games got blasted by critics, and audiences and it bombed financially. Where did it go wrong? It had a great writer and an all-time director John Frankenheimer. Is it time to re-assess Reindeer Games or does it deserve its spot in the garbage heap of 90's cinema? Imagine the pitch meeting - "It's Santa Claus, right, but this one has muscles!" PRINT THE MONEY! Now, the rest of us are left to pick up the pieces of Hulk Hogan's Santa With Muscles (1996). Previous Hulk Hogan movies had him playing different versions of himself, and here he attempts to act and play a different character. It goes about as well as you'd expect. Many questions will be answered - how did Mila Kunis bury this performance? How can a lawn ornament bench press 300 pounds? Why is Ed Leslie playing an Asian? We'll pull it all apart, and then give out some awards, including our worst actor award, the "Steve Seagal" Trash Can Full of Dirt. Jimmy and Melissa air some things OUT. We're talking about the cost of an unexpressed life. We're talking about the cost of wrangling our true voices to be more palatable to institutions - for clout, visibility, legibility, resource access - and how the curated version of ourselves is like an addiction that must be recovered from, boy howdy! We're looking at the micro and macro impact of power differentials, and thinking about how so much of our behavior is about avoiding rejection from people and organizations that have more perceived power than us. Turns out rejection is a secret portal to becoming more of yourself, and improvisation is the medicinal lifeway we've all been searching for. OK!!!!   More about our guest — Find Jimmy on IG @j_jo

Not too many movies out there featuring Jet Li in dreadlocks, but this is where we find ourselves. Even though The One (2001) is rated very low by critics, some swear this is an awesome movie. The movie made us laugh, we're just not sure it was supposed to. It also features one of the best Jet Li fights we've ever seen. We go scene by scene and answer the important questions - how did Jet Li get with Carla Gugino? Why is the only thing different in each parallel universe his hairdo? Why does Jason Statham have hair, and why can't he fight in this? We'll pull it all apart, and then give out some awards, including our worst actor award, the "Steve Seagal" Trash Can Full of Dirt.
