Your Hopeful Sister dives into topics not normally discussed within church walls. She has served abroad as a missionary, ministered to internationals and women in the States, authored a book on her burnout journey and worked a few stressful jobs in between. Discussing burnout in work and ministry, depression, anxiety and trauma to name just a few topics, Your Hopeful Sister takes a look at these mental health realities from a Christian perspective. These are her personal giants to defeat in life and she hopes that the stories shared here, others and her own, will not only encourage you to pursue truth and healing, but also fill you with hope.
There has been a long break with this Brain Don't Fail Me podcast show and along with that our current series with the Moses Bible study.. so if you have not seen any new releases you have not missed out. However, today changes that and a new lesson is ready for you to listen to. In today's episode, we are now being introduced to the famous, or infamous, plagues of God sent upon the Egyptians because of the Pharaoh refusing to listen to Moses and Aaron. The first plague is released and we will take a look into the heart of Pharaoh and understand what pride and an inflated ego can do. Our study on Moses continues! In this episode, we are taking a look at God having to be somewhat repetitive with Moses when giving Moses specific commands. And not because Moses did not hear Him the first time. How many times has God needed to be repetitive with us as well? It continues to comfort my heart how much I seem to relate to Moses in these ways. Enjoy this ninth lesson of our Bible study! Blessings! We are about knee deep into our Bible study on Moses and the deliverance of God's people. In our last lesson we ended on a bit of a cliff hanger, where Moses laments to God about having been obedient to Him in going to the Pharaoh. In this eighth lesson, we will read God's response to the cry and angst of Moses. We can learn a lot about God's heart and patience with how He responds to Moses. Let this lesson encourage you!Scripture Used In This Episode:Exodus 6:1-10 *main passage for our studyExodus 3:14-15Hebrews 11:1Psalm 34:18 Disclaimer: I am not a licensed professional in the mental healthcare industry. Welcome to the seventh lesson with our study on Moses from the Old Testament. We just learned how Moses and Aaron's first request to allow the Israelites a "leave of absence" from their work and go celebrate a festival unto the Lord out in the wilderness was denied by the Pharaoh. Well, in this lesson we will see this same Pharaoh continue responding to their request with more harshness, revealing much about him as a ruler. How will the Israelites respond and how will Moses take it? Your Hopeful Sister is ready for you to join this interesting, yet thought provoking lesson!Scripture Used In This Episode:Exodus 5:4-23 *main passage for our studyExodus 1:9-11Matthew 11:28-30Watch "Keep Them Busy", my teaching video pulled out of this podcast episode here: https://youtu.be/KerwDv44SlcDisclaimer: I am not a licensed professional in the mental healthcare industry. What happens to our hearts when we realize that God has been listening and hearing us throughout our struggles and valley seasons the entire time? Your Hopeful Sister is taking another nose dive into our study on Moses in the Bible, sharing how the enslaved Hebrews responded to God answering their cries for help with worship. This lesson also has us finally looking at the first approach before the Pharaoh by Moses and Aaron who ask him to allow the Israelites to leave into the wilderness for a festival. This fifth lesson of our Moses study has us facing some baffling verses that Your Hopeful Sister bravely attempts to bring a better understanding, or at least provide possible different explanations that will help us understand. Moses has decided to take his family back to Egypt in obedience to God. We take a look at how difficult this had to have been for Moses, who had many years prior fled Egypt for his life. Obedience to the Lord is not always an easy route, but it is the most rewarding. Within the dialogue between Moses and the Lord, Moses is apprehensive to go to Egypt and be used to deliver God's people from the Pharaoh. God responds with showing Moses the authority He has given him in order to be such a powerful instrument. The staff within his hands is a symbol of that authority, his shepherding staff. This will be our fourth lesson in our Moses study here on the Brain Don't Fail Me Podcast Show, and Your Hopeful Sister is delighted to have you here with us. Welcome to lesson three with Moses! We are now getting into the exciting part of Moses' story. God revealing Himself to Moses through a burning bush that is not actually affected by the fire that is consuming it is beyond amazing. Not only that, but God calling Moses to be an instrument of deliverance for God's people after 40 years living outside of Egypt has to be a complete shocker to our main character as well. Diving right in with excitement, Your Hopeful Sister, will be sharing the second lesson on our study of Moses. We will visit the birth of Moses and all that surrounded it, as well as, what his upbringing entailed and how this shaped who he was. A great takeaway from this particular part to our study in this sixth season of "The Brain Don't Fail Me" podcast show, is how despite Moses failing miserably to a calling God had placed in his heart to be a rescuer of His people, the Hebrews enslaved in Egypt, God still plans to use him further along in his life. Let this episode encourage you to fully walk out a direction the Lord gave you despite your own shortcomings!Scripture Used In This Episode:Exodus 2:1-22 *main passage for our studyExodus 1:22Exodus 6:20Hebrews 11:23-27Acts 7:20-29Genesis 25:1-6This Episode's Sponsor:Dory's Gardens In Tyler, Texas 600 W. Here begins the first lesson of the Brain Don't Fail Me Podcast show's newest BIBLE STUDY on MOSES. Your Hopeful Sister is sharing this new study here with her podcast family first! It has been exciting to discover so much from the Lord as I write this study for you. In this start of another season we begin with learning the history and context in which Moses was born into. How and why were the Israelites enslaved after Joseph was used to bring them to Egypt to escape a great famine? Why does this Pharaoh perhaps not know about or care to know about the ruling of Joseph as second in command to an earlier Pharaoh? These questions will be covered and more!Scripture Used In This Episode:Exodus 1:1-22 *main passage for our studyGenesis 32:22-32Genesis 46:2-4Genesis 12:2-3Genesis 15:12-15John 12:242 Corinthians 4:7-9Ezekiel 20:8Acts 5:29Matthew 10:16,19-20Articles Referenced In This Episode:www.cleopatraegypttours.com/travel-guide/hyksos-and-invasion-of-ancient-egypt/www.arce.org http://thecompletepilgrim.com/were-there-egyptians-among-the-israelites-of-the-exodus/Disclaimer: I am not a licensed professional in the mental healthcare industry. Studying through the life of Joseph was tremendously fun and it has launched Your Hopeful Sister into another deep dive into another famous man of God, Moses! Welcome to the sixth season here on the Brain Don't Fail Me Podcast show. It is a unique experience to read the Bible searching for truths that lead us to find our own healing from challenges with depression, anxiety, or even just woundings we have received in life. Moses has definitely had to face valleys that brought him to points in his life where he no doubt questioned everything. And God still chose him and used him for His great and mighty purposes. What a comfort to realize that we do not have to be completely perfect or whole to be used by God, though it is wise to continue down a read of healing for our own peace and to be better used by the Lord. Your Hopeful Sister is wrapping up this fifth season on trauma with discussing how to overcome shame caused by those terrifying experiences. Shame can enter our hearts through either abuse, a terrifying event, a painful and humiliating experience or even through poor choices of our own. Healing can come from shame, which is basically identifying oneself with what has happened to you or what bad decision you may have made. As believers in Christ, we should be mindful of how our Lord has taken even our shame with Him on the cross. It is no longer ours to carry. Learning how to unload shame is integral for our healing. Here on the Brain Don't Fail Me podcast show, Your Hopeful Sister will be sharing some treatments for trauma that are available. There are probably many more treatments and programs, depending on what type of trauma has been diagnosed, available that was not touched on in this episode. I also share my own personal experience thus far with my EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy sessions and how the Lord is using it to heal and set me free from horrible lies I have believed for way too long. Definitely a longer episode, but worth the listen to find a possible solution for your own recovery from trauma! Disclaimer: I am not a licensed professional in the mental healthcare industry. If you have not recognized yet the impact of unresolved trauma with our physical bodies, then you will want to listen to this episode where Your Hopeful Sister dives into how this works. Traumatic events can be trapped in the body and when we learn how to revisit those memories for the purposes of healing then we can see the return of health within our bodies. This discussion will also move into understanding our two nervous systems and the importance of training our brains to move out of survival mode and into peace and calm, a state that the Lord intends for us to live out of more on a regular basis. So much neat information to learn today! Keep a look out for the next episode where the discussion on healing from trauma begins. It is so important for us to understand what trauma is and how to know if we have the symptoms of having been traumatized by a terrifying event. Your Hopeful Sister, in this first episode of season five, will share with us the research she did on this very topic which will lay the foundation of further discussions on trauma. Christians definitely go through traumatic events and we should learn how to recognize when we need to seek out healing from those experiences ourselves. Your Hopeful Sister is so ready for you to hear today's episode on how the Church and you can be an instrument to bring healing to wounded hearts today. A discussion on how the Church, the Bride of Christ, can be more equipped to meet such emotional needs is beginning to take hold and that is very exciting. Often times I have seen an avoidance of the topic of mental health in our church circles in the past, but God is doing a new thing and people are more and more ready to explore how to navigate challenges and disorders with mental health. Depression and anxiety has definitely taken a foothold in our nation and the Church is not free from these issues. In today's episode of the Brain Don't Fail Me Podcast, Your Hopeful Sister is revealing her personal ways that she manages a diagnosis of severe depression. These behaviors that I have learned to adapt into my daily life has truly been life saving. We will also be looking into other possible treatments for depression and how to invite the Lord into our healing journey. There are also alternative treatments, but I decided not to go into these because of lack of knowledge. Always do your own research and ask your primary physician and/or therapist about these treatments before deciding to try any type of treatment. One thing is certain, managing depression can be a combination of things that works best for each individual. Do not give up on discovering what works best for you and continue to ask the Lord to provide what you need to help you. Be blessed friends and enjoy today's third episode in our third season! Looking back at my own experiences on the field struggling immensely with burnout and depression, I, Your Hopeful Sister, am able to share a perspective of the missionary experience that is not so commonly discussed. In today's episode we look at the reasons why overseas missionaries easily burnout and how missionaries need to take better care of themselves. I am also sharing how the church, and any other support system the missionary has, can begin to care for the missionary in their life. Not a lot is discussed openly about the ugly side to serving abroad, and I hope this fourth episode of my Burnout Season will start the necessary discussion we need to have to protect these spiritual soldiers.
