Angela Finley was heading to her cell in the county jail to serve time for drug trafficking when a small blue bible caught her eye, nestled amid a pile of reading material available to inmates. Between her cellmate reading scripture out loud and Angela diving into the word of God personally, this critical truth changed her life. It brought her into a relationship with Jesus Christ. When Angela was released from prison, she was inspired to advocate for change and empowerment for other former inmates reintegrating into society by founding her inspiring organization, No Handz Down. Today, she helps former inmates find housing, provides them with clothes, and assists them in creating a resume, all while helping them embrace their new identity in the Lord Jesus Christ. She also addresses the power of forgiveness and prayer. In the episode, hosts Russell Lowery and Jennifer SaHa discuss the shift in work from home policies for state workers in California, particularly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Traditionally, remote work was rare for state employees, but the pandemic necessitated a quick shift to nearly 90% of the workforce working from home. As offices slowly begin reopening, state agencies plan to require employees to return to the office for at least two days a week. The rationale behind this move is to foster team camaraderie and collaboration. The conversation also touches on the possible challenges that could arise, including finding a balance between flexibility and productivity, and effectively managing a partly remote workforce. 00:06 Introduction to the Episode00:36 Pre-COVID Work from Home Policies01:44 Impact of COVID on Work from Home03:03 Transition Back to Office Work04:14 Rationale Behind the Two-Day Office Policy05:26 Implications for State Workers06:27 Critique of the Two-Day Office Policy09:58 Advocacy and Public Service Considerations12:57 Training for Managing a Remote Workforce14:18 Conclusion: Future of Work from Home Policies

Having military experience can give one a valuable skills life while teaching how to live a disciplined lifestyle. Many former and current servicemen and women have utilized the skills they learned in training and applied it to their everyday lives. However, for some military veterans that transition from military life to civilian life, these lifestyles can clash, and transitioning comes with its own set of challenges. How do some military veterans navigate utilizing what they learned in service with everyday life and leadership encounters in civilian life?In the newest episode of “Straight Outta Crumpton,” host Greg Crumpton is joined by co-host Gabrielle Bar to interview Tony Grayson, General Manager of Compass Datacenters, to talk about his military background and how it's helped him maneuver through his role as a leader.Grayson is a Navy veteran and served for over two decades. The former Sub Commander led over a thousand other servicemen and women during his post. After leaving active duty, Grayson went into the data center field and naturally applied some of his military experience to his leadership skills. But the marriage between them isn't always seamless.“You know, there's a myth that in the military that everything that you learned in the military carries over, and I think it's the exact opposite. I think that's why you find a lot of military fail in the civilian worlds…” said Grayson.Crumpton, Bar, and Grayson also touched on …Grayson's extensive military background commanding submarinesThe importance of being open minded to different opinions and mindsetsThe mission of Salute and Grayson's advocacy work for military veterans“Salute is kind of one of those groups that are out there and there's OverWatch, there's a couple of them that really try to bring veterans, National Guard, reservists, and spouses … and you know they use it as a feeder system, so they're okay with...someone coming in and leaving out here and go and do better things,” he said.Grayson added that as the Veteran's Chair at Infrastructure Masons, a mission of his is to attract and acquire as many veterans as he can into the tech field.“We should stop looking at these quotas hiring veterans and then actually trying to reach out and bring veterans in, and being totally agnostic of where they go,” he said.Tony Grayson is the General Manager of Compass Datacenters. He has been in that role since 2021. Prior to that, he was an executive at Oracle for three years and had previous roles at Amazon Web Services and Facebook. Grayson entered the tech and data field after over 20 years of service in the Navy, where he served as a Deputy for Operations and submarine commander. He is an alumnus of the United States Naval Academy and Old Dominion University.

Veggies & Virtue: Easy Meal Ideas for Families, Healthy Snacks for Kids, Picky Eating Help
This time of year, it is easy to get sucked into saving all of these aspirational lunch box ideas (even if we know half of them our child wouldn't ever eat). We start the year strong and with good intent, but too often, our kids end up burnt out on the same PB&J every day before we even make it to Christmas break. That's why, in this episode, I want to give you my three-step plan to take BEFORE that burnout hits so that the variety you want and the foods your kids crave can coexist well into the school year. These tasks don't take a lot of time now, if you work through what I outline in this episode as you listen! Instead, take these five minutes being proactive before the lunch-packing season is in full swing to save your sanity and your child's stomach before back to school.
It's that time of year again! Whether you're homeschooling, sending your kids to private or public school, or are doing online school from home, things are going to change. Inside today's episode, we're talking about how to take care of yourself as the leader of your own motherhood and home. This episode is going to give you the three basic parts of building a foundational self-care system for yourself.
