Send us Fan MailA $250 million implementation with laws changing right before launch will clarify your project management instincts fast, especially when the site crashes after just 20 users. That's the kind of pressure-tested learning we unpack with Alex Tuck, founder of Tuck Consulting Group and host of the Project Zero podcast, where he interviews project managers about the project that taught them what the job really is. We talk through Alex's own pivot from financial services to nonprofit work and then into building a 60-person project management consulting team delivering projects across healthcare, SaaS rollouts, professional services, and more. Alex also shares why his team loves ClickUp consulting, especially for nonprofits and growth-stage small businesses that need a flexible system for project tracking plus operations, process, and visibility without buying a pile of disconnected software. Then we go deep on “Project Zero,” the project where it finally clicks how to lead without authority: negotiating with executives, aligning developers and stakeholders, anticipating risks instead of merely documenting them, and staying calm when reality ignores the plan. We also dig into AI in project management, what parts of the PM role are most likely to be automated, why adoption often fails inside large organizations, and how to focus your career on the human work that still creates outsized value. If you want practical lessons from the trenches and a clearer picture of where project leadership is headed, listen now, subscribe, and share this episode with a PM who's thinking about the next step. Riding Shotgun With Charlie #254 Alisha Curtin San Diego Concealed Carry & Gun Owners Radio In 2022, I went to the San Diego County Gun Owners' Gun Prom with a friend. I got to meet lots of people at the event, many whom I've had on the show at some point. I'm sure I met Alisha Curtin then. She's been part of Gun Owners Radio for a few years now. I did a PitStop interview with her, which is already posted, and I got to film this interview where we get into things a little more with her. This was her first SHOT Show and she had a great time! Alisha was raised in the San Diego area and met her husband in high school. At 17, she enlisted in the delayed entry program in the Army. The week before she was supposed to ship off for bootcamp, she re-evaluated the situation with her boyfriend and thought it was leading places just 4 months into dating. Just before SHOT Show, they celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary! Her husband is in law enforcement and with a firearm in the home, he wanted her to be familiar with it. She really enjoyed it but, for him, shooting was just work. Eventually, she found that she was going to shoot and take training with her lady friends. Around 2012, she bought her own gun, a S&W .40 cal! Fortunately, it was a gun she rented, knew what she was getting into, and liked shooting. During her pre-firearms career, Alisha was a high school teacher, covering biology, chemistry, forensic science, and criminal justice. The path to becoming an instructor was interesting. She was taking courses and another instructor took her in, said she would be good at this and mentored her. Then a range approached her and asked about having her teach courses at their facility. Instructing was a part time gig until the virus that shall not be named happened. The gun laws were changing and it seems like a good time to make a change. As an instructor, she mostly works with women. Many times a woman takes a lesson and brings her husband's gun or buys a gun the store suggests she buys. But that often isn't a great choice for the ladies, something like a J frame snubby. The thought is if a woman isn't strong enough to rack a slide, then she's going to have issues shooting a revolver in double action. Her business is called San Diego Concealed Carry. There are a couple of ranges where she teaches. In California to become a CCW instructor, there are three different paths one can take: the NRA path, the BSIS (Bureau of Security Investigative Services) path, and the POST Police Officer Standard of Training). She's got all three of them. She also has all of the USCCA certifications, as well. Certified with NRA, USCCA, and others, she offers several courses. Of course, there's CCW courses, the California DOJ initial course and renewal course, introduction to firearm courses, youth courses, self defense training, and the court mandidated courses, too. She keeps very busy and is very well versed in the Calif. gun laws and statues. Besides everything else she does, Alisha was going to events hosted by San Diego County Gun Owners. I will say that having been to one of their events, they draw in huge numbers of attendees! In 2021, the capacity at Gun Prom was 999. If there were 1,000 people they would need "special requirements', if you remember. At one event, Michael Schwartz, head of SDCGO, and Alisha got to talking. He had some changes with Gun Owners Radio and asked her to be a co-host of the show. I've got to say, it's been a weekly listen for me for a number of years now, and I highly recommend it to everyone. She has her own segment called Curtin Call, where she talks about training. Females are the largest growing demographic of firearm owners. It's fantastic that the ladies can take courses with someone like Alisha. It's also good that she can more than hold her own with the fellas, too. I'm sure she even shows a few of them up! Favorite quotes: "I had a good time. I liked it, I enjoyed it. But for him it was work." "It's a big investment. You want to make sure it's the right gun for you." "Men, in general, do not understand the things a woman needs in a firearm." Send us Fan MailI was fortunate to sit down with Daniel Hemhauser recently for a casual catching-up conversation. We touched on the current status of the employment struggles faced by many skilled project managers and the mixed signals we seem to be getting about their future. PMI has said that we'll need millions more PMs by 2035, but currently the people we talk to are sitting at six, nine, or even eighteen months without work. We get real about what that feels like, why it's happening across industries, and why even highly skilled project managers and PMO leaders are seeing job posts that demand impossible “everything roles” for entry-level pay. We also dig into where movement still exists. Some regions show more hiring energy, especially where construction, distribution, data center build-outs, and AI infrastructure are growing. We share simple, practical tactics like setting targeted job alerts and thinking in terms of project funding and active build cycles, not just job boards. If you're trying to plan your next move, this is about reading the market with clearer eyes. Then we shift to the opportunity hiding in the chaos: AI for project managers. Many people claim they “know AI,” but many are only scratching the surface with basic prompts. We talk about what actually stands out, from building useful workflows to experimenting with AI agents that can take repetitive PM work off your plate, like summaries, status updates, and draft communications. We also cover how to learn faster by having AI create a 30 to 60 day study plan and how to write prompts that force clarity by having the model ask you the right questions first. If you're worried about the future of project management, this conversation is a reminder that fundamentals still matter and new skills can compound quickly. Share this episode with a PM friend who needs it, and leave a comment with the toughest hiring trend you're seeing right now. Send a textA risk register doesn't save a project. Leadership does. Russ Parker joins me to get brutally practical about what “risk management” looks like when it's more than a checkbox: leaders defining risk appetite, teams building the habit of talking about threats and opportunities, and project managers turning uncertainty into decisions executives can actually approve. We dig into how to start risk identification with evidence instead of a blank page. Russ shares why people and lessons learned are the best data sources, how the military's lessons learned culture creates repeatable planning advantages, and how any organization can build a searchable lessons learned repository. We also talk about where AI for project managers fits right now: speeding up risk lists, meeting minutes, and research while still requiring human review to catch hallucinations and context gaps.If you're thinking about the PMI-RMP certification, we cover when it's a logical next step after the PMP, why it feels harder, and the mistakes candidates make when they assume it's “just projects” or “just a risk register.” You'll also hear actionable tools like the risk breakdown structure, how to prioritize with proximity, not only probability and impact, and how to handle stakeholders who resist risk planning by showing measurable value in cost, schedule, and waste avoided. If this conversation helps, subscribe, share it with a PM who's tired of fire drills, and leave a quick review so more project managers can find the show.Episode Links: Connect with Russell on LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/russ-parkerRussell's Website: https://44riskpm.comYouTube: https://youtube.com/@44riskpmPM-Mastery Links: For a full podcast episode list, visit here: PM-Mastery Podcast Episodes. Hi everyone, Carl Gould here with your #70secondCEO. Just a little over a one minute investment every day for a lifetime of results. So you've heard the term over-communicate. We have to over-communicate. That doesn't mean just talking more. That means being very, very specific in how we give instructions. Okay, and when we do the situational leadership, we'll talk about that some more because we need to stop being descriptive and we need to start being instructive. So as a manager, as a leader, that's what this group needs to do, right? So in other words, somebody's gonna go and if you were to say to somebody that's heading out to a job site for a client, say, hey, do a great job, do it the source one way, that's descriptive. There are 15 different or ultimately infinite number of interpretations of that. Now, you wanna be instructive, right? Okay, and when you get there, I expect a call as soon as you get there. Let's do a video walkaround. Here are our steps, here's our agenda and our script, and that's what we want you to do. Like and follow this podcast so you can learn more. My name is Carl Gould and this has been your #70secondCEO.

In this episode of Strange Planet, we venture into the strange frontier where science fiction stops predicting the future and starts engineering it. Joining me is Professor Mark Brake, who reveals how visionary writers like H.G. Wells mapped the architecture of time long before physicists dared to explore it. From quantum theories and alternate timelines to cryonics and suspended animation, we examine whether humanity has already begun slipping through time without admitting it. Is time a rigid law… or the next barrier waiting to break? GUEST: Professor Mark Brake is a leading science communicator and author exploring the hidden feedback loop between imagination and innovation. He is the author of FutureWorld: Where Science Fiction Becomes Science and numerous bestselling books examining the real science behind Star Wars, superheroes, time travel, and the multiverse. In this powerful and eye-opening episode, Pastor Todd and L.A. tackle some of the biggest questions people are asking right now… Are we being prepared for a faked alien invasion meant to deceive humanity? Are so-called extraterrestrial encounters really demonic manifestations designed to blur the truth about God's creation? And are humans being genetically modified or tested in ways that echo the fallen angels' rebellion in the days of Noah? You won't hear this conversation pretty much anywhere else. Pastor Todd asks the hard questions… and L.A. Marzulli gives real answers grounded in both Scripture and research. This is one broadcast you don't want to miss. Send us a textIn this episode:Lee Lambert, the self-described "grandfather of the PMP" and last living founder of the certification from 1984, brings his wealth of experience and trademark humor to this enlightening conversation about project management's past, present, and future. From humble beginnings with just 39 certified professionals in its first year to today's 1.7 million PMPs worldwide, Lee traces the remarkable evolution of project management certification. His own journey proves there's no single path to success in this field - starting in drafting and engineering before volunteering to train 300 engineers on earned value management, which launched his career in project management. The conversation takes a fascinating turn when Lee recounts leading a $300-400 million annual project to determine nuclear waste storage locations in the 1980s. This massive undertaking required navigating complex technical, environmental, and political landscapes - providing him with invaluable real-world experience that shaped his understanding of effective project management. Today, Lee channels his passion into promoting the Pure Project Manager credential, which he sees as the perfect practical complement to the theory-based PMP. With 29 diverse courses covering everything from communication to creativity to risk management, the credential helps project managers translate book knowledge into actionable skills. As Lee puts it, "How does all that stuff I learned, the jargon, translate into better project management?" Throughout our conversation, Lee emphasizes the critical importance of risk management - especially with today's AI tools that can dramatically improve risk identification and mitigation. His insights on networking, professional growth, and finding your path in project management are invaluable for practitioners at any stage of their career. When asked how someone can know if project management is right for them, Lee offers straightforward wisdom: "Until you do it, you won't know."Episode Links:Connect with Lee on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lelambert/Take your next step with the PURE Project Management Credential: https://www.puremanagementalliance.com/#675860292cf36PM-Mastery Links: For a full podcast episode list, visit here: PM-Mastery Podcast Episodes. Send us a textEver wonder how someone becomes a successful project manager? Walt Sparling's remarkable journey from an accidental drafting student to a cross-industry PM expert reveals the unexpected path many professionals take into this dynamic field. This is a unique episode where Walt, the host of the PM-Mastery podcast, let a former guest and friend interview him. During this interview, we discussed future goals of meeting each other in person, but due to the delayed posting of this episode, it actually happened, and Tanya was a guest at a milestone birthday party of mine this past summer. It was awesome to meet in person and finally create that personal bond that we had been building over the last couple of years.Walt's story begins with childhood dreams of architecture that took a detour when an eye injury ended his military aspirations. From there, his career winds through mechanical engineering firms, an IT startup, and eventually into architectural project management. What makes his perspective so valuable is how each role built upon the last, creating a uniquely qualified professional who understands the complex connections that link different technical disciplines.Throughout the conversation with host Tanya Boyd, Walt emphasizes how communication became his superpower. "If your attention to detail is good, you manage time well, and you're a great communicator—you can work in multiple industries," he explains. This insight reveals that successful project managers don't necessarily possess deep technical expertise in one area, but rather possess the ability to facilitate understanding among specialists and guide teams towards shared goals through influence rather than authority. The discussion takes fascinating turns through Walt's PM Mastery podcast creation during COVID, his involvement with a men's mastermind group, and his role as an instructor for the Pure Project Manager credential. This innovative program brings together over 20 industry experts, each teaching their specialty rather than having "one person talk about 15 different topics." The result is practical, specialized knowledge from professionals passionate about their focus areas.Whether you're an aspiring project manager curious about the field, a seasoned PM looking to broaden your perspective, or someone considering a career pivot, Walt's story demonstrates how adaptability, communication skills, and a willingness to learn can create opportunities across industries. Ready to take your project management skills to the next level? Send us a textThe project management landscape stands at a pivotal moment—not just technologically, but demographically. With approximately 15 million (25 million per a 2021 PMI report) new project management positions emerging globally by 2030 (half from retirements in Western nations), we face a critical knowledge transfer challenge as experienced professionals exit the workforce. This conversation with John Connolly explores how this demographic shift creates a pressing need for mid-career development and leadership cultivation. We dive deep into the fundamental difference between the skills that earn promotion (task execution) versus those needed for leadership success (strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and team development). This transition from "doer" to "leader" represents one of the most challenging career pivots many project managers face. While artificial intelligence dominates headlines as a transformative force in project management, we challenge the notion that AI will compensate for the wisdom and judgment being lost through retirement. AI functions admirably as a tool for efficiency but falters when expected to replace human discernment, critical thinking, and relationship management. As John provocatively states, "The pyramids were built without process groups"—reminding us that the essence of project management has always been the human ability to align diverse stakeholders toward a common goal. We also explore the importance of organizational learning through lessons-learned processes. Despite being relegated to the smallest process group in traditional frameworks, knowledge management represents an underappreciated engine for organizational excellence. The ability to transform documented lessons into applied wisdom separates exceptional organizations from mediocre ones. For project managers plotting their professional growth, the message is clear: invest in developing human-centered capabilities. While technical proficiency matters, the highest return will come from strengthening the skills machines cannot replicate—strategic communication, leadership presence, and the ability to navigate ambiguity. Your future self will thank you for focusing on these timeless fundamentals. What is the message we would bring back to our families and friends if we survived a near-death experience? It's the kind of event that could change our lives in a big way. What would we most want the people closest to us to realize from our close encounter with the veil?Such close encounters reveal profound insights and perceptions that can change a life's direction, or bring new understanding about the human's larger universal purpose and potential.Being brought back “online” from an unexpected near-departure also highlights a view of human life as the integration of many different systems in a unified, harmonious whole — physical, mental, and spiritual. An illness or other struggle can be seen as a form of dis-integration, while weaving to reintegrate the parts back together, physical and energetic, enables a larger healing. It brings a clearer vision of the river of life flowing seamlessly within a stream of universal possibility.Longtime Portals friend David Price Francis recently survived a very close call: a scheduled heart surgery did not go as planned. In the latest chapter of the Current Openings series, he talks with Aviv Shahar about the perceptions and meaning the experience unlocked, and the message he'd like us to contemplate. Among their insights:That's how I think of human beings: we're not finished, we're not completed. We're here to learn, to grow, to develop. We're in an embryonic state, which is why planet Earth is so messy.Make the most of life while we're here; pay attention, try to understand how the universe works. Partly why we're here is to read God's signature in the world around us.We can't have the evolutionary stream without being in the river of life; we need to love both. Not trying to be in the realm of consciousness and leaving behind regular life.Instructing and talking to our soul is part of wellbeing and healing. We talk with our intention, our consciousness; we speak to our brain, our body, our soul about what's happening in our life.We might see life in the universe and on Earth as random. Yet the distance from the sun to Earth is exact. In life there is often an exactness to a fraction of a degree. What does this mean for how we live? This conversation is part of the continuing Portals discovery into what is emerging on the frontiers of human experience in this time of profound change. Information about upcoming special events can be found on the Events page. Also visit and subscribe to our YouTube channel. TWEETABLE QUOTES “We don't want to go to Nirvana, we want Nirvana to come to us - whilst we're doing the washing up - like that idea of chop wood, carry water, that one is actually engaged in the river of life, but one has, at the same time, a higher consciousness and a higher awareness that's active. So both things are happening at once. It's very easy though to get carried along in the river of life and lose consciousness within it; we become automated, we become auto responsive.” (David)“Pay attention to the river of life, the codings, the understandings, you could say the signature of creation, it's all there. And so we don't take our consciousness and seek to separate it and go into some other domain and become blank. It's actually more like, everything is interesting, everything is worth looking at and exploring and trying to understand it. What are the actual laws by which this place works? And what are the connections through which it works? And we've been given this chance to research God through the river of life, because that tells us something about the design of creation.” (David) RESOURCES MENTIONED Portals of Perception WebsiteAviv's LinkedIn Aviv's TwitterAviv's WebsiteThe Open-Heart Conversation: Current Openings #18

E.Z., Mark, and Oscar retrace Ray's evangelism journey across Tahiti, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii, experiencing both challenges and powerful encounters as they shared the gospel. From late-night partiers in Tahiti to a weeping man in Fiji, they saw firsthand how the message of Christ can reach hearts in unexpected ways. Along the way, they used creativity, cultural connections, and boldness to open doors for conversation. Visiting places significant to Ray's faith journey made the experience even more meaningful. In a concluding Q&A, the guys offered practical evangelism advice, encouraged using downtime for spiritual growth, affirmed the role of women in sharing the gospel, and reminded listeners that God's grace makes us worthy, not our past. The Government's instructed Auckland Council to allow apartments at least 15 storeys high near key City Rail Link train stations. Density requirements around the Mt Albert and Baldwin Ave stations require at least 10 storey apartments, and requirements around the Maungawhau, Kingsland, and Morningside rail terminals have been increased from six storeys to 15. Simeon Brown and Chris Bishop say it will ensure Auckland takes economic advantage of the transformational investment in the city. AUT Future Environments Professor John Tookey told Mike Hosking that even the proposition of consenting a 15 storey building in the middle of a city isn't a five minute undertaking. His suspicion is it will take at least a decade to see any kind of measurable mass urban densification around the stations. He also told Hosking that the Government's interference in running Auckland is likely to cause significant political issues. Tookey says NIMBY-type arguments will likely crop up: why here, who's going to fund it, and how will it impact everyone else in the area? Send us a textRobert's journey from IT help desk technician to systems manager and project management instructor reveals how unexpected career paths often yield the most valuable insights. When tasked with teaching experienced construction project managers to abandon paper for digital systems, he discovered his true calling: bridging knowledge gaps to help people work more efficiently with technology. "The systems we have exist to make our lives easier," Robert explains, "but there are humans involved who have to use them to do their jobs." This human-centered approach infuses Robert's three courses created for the PURE Project Manager Credential program. Robert's Project Hacks course integrates real-world experience with theoretical knowledge, imparting practical adjustments that enhance project outcomes without compromising on quality. The Lessons Learned and Postmortems course challenges conventional wisdom by advocating for continuous learning throughout projects rather than just at completion. Perhaps most surprisingly, his Self-Care for Project Managers course addresses an often-overlooked aspect of the profession—how meditation, exercise, and simple daily practices can help manage the mental "churn" that accompanies project challenges. What makes Robert's perspective particularly valuable is how he connects these seemingly separate topics into a cohesive approach. The skills to document processes clearly, the wisdom to learn continuously, and the self-awareness to maintain personal wellbeing create a powerful toolkit for today's project managers. Drawing parallels to his martial arts training, Robert demonstrates how teaching others effectively requires both mastery of techniques and understanding of human learning patterns. Whether you're an experienced project manager looking to refine your approach or new to the field and seeking practical guidance, this episode offers insights that extend beyond theoretical frameworks into real-world application. According to the Justice Department, a Florida doctor is facing several charges for sexually abusing kids he met on social internet and telling them to "cut, choke, and hang themselves" while he watched on video chat. Stephen Leedy, 59, of St. Petersburg, is suspected of leading at least one of his young victims to her demise. The 13-year-old victim was discovered "hanging from the shower head with a dog leash around her neck." On December 26, an indictment outlining the allegations against him was handed down. The charges included two counts of coercing or persuading a minor to engage in sexual behavior and three counts of producing material pertaining to child sexual abuse. Leedy faces a possible sentence of life in prison if found guilty. In a press release, DOJ officials said, “According to the indictment and court documents, Leedy, a palliative care doctor in the Tampa Bay area, utilized the username ‘maximumuncle#9112' to sexually exploit and victimize approximately ten minors online. In online conversations and video chats, Leedy instructed the minors to produce sexually explicit images of themselves and directed them to cut, choke, and hang themselves. In November 2021, Minor Victim 1 was discovered deceased, having hanged herself in front of her phone in a manner consistent with instructions Leedy had previously provided her.” Prosecutors described the alarming charges against Leedy in a pretrial application for detention filed on December 17. They claimed that he posed "an extreme danger to minors in society and his release from custody would be in direct conflict with maintaining community safety." They explained how the evidence against him "is extremely strong" and demonstrated his purported preoccupation with abusing children sexually and causing them harm. Prosecutors stated, “Through social media conversations and investigative means, law enforcement confirmed Leedy's ownership over the account used to encourage minors to engage in sadistic and sexual behavior. Minor victims have been interviewed, identified themselves within conversations, and confirmed the horrific acts Leedy instructed them to do. Leedy very clearly engaged in this predatory behavior with approximately ten minor victims across the country.” Prosecutors claim that Leedy used video chats and messages to coach a number of females, giving them instructions on how to injure themselves sexually and with household objects. A 13-year-old girl was told to "cut her breasts with a blade" and then strangle herself. According to the prosecution, another was instructed to carry out "daily hangings." “Can ur life be full with cutting your boobs and tmmy for daddy, not eating and puking for daddy,” Leedy allegedly wrote in a message to the 13-year-old. “Go get the belt so we can start choking u,” he allegedly said, before asking: “Have u ever put the end of the belt over the top of your door, and then close the door?” Although Leedy was detained in October by investigators from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office and FBI Tampa Office, with help from the St. Petersburg Police Department, FBI Atlanta Office, and the Holly Springs Police Department, he wasn't formally charged until last week. In their motion for detention, prosecutors stated, “The nature and circumstances of the offenses charged are extremely serious. Leedy directed the three minor victims named in the indictment, along with approximately seven additional minor victims, to produce child pornography while on video calls with him to satisfy his own sexual deviant interest in children. The conversations continually revolved around his control over the minor victim, commenting on how ‘obedient' they are and asking at least one minor victim to refer to him as ‘my Lord.'” He has been practicing medicine in the state since January 1991, according to records from the Florida Department of Health, and he specializes in hospice and palliative care, according to local NBC affiliate WFLA. The accused victims had no idea who he was or what his occupation was. “He hid behind the cloak of anonymity by either lying about his identity or using a black screen while engaging in video calls with the minor victims. Everything that Leedy instructed these minor victims to do was either physically or mentally detrimental to the minor victims. He had absolutely no disregard for their safety and took advantage of children more than half his age to gratify himself,” prosecutors said. His lawyers stated that their client plans to plead not guilty. “Our client, Stephen Leedy, adamantly denies the charges that have been filed against him in federal court,” attorneys Bjorn Brunvand and Lucas Fleming told the outlet. “It is particularly important in moments like this when someone is being accused of very troubling allegations, that we afford him the presumption of innocence,” they added. “We will be entering a not guilty plea at the earliest opportunity and look forward to vigorously defending Dr. Leedy in court.” Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Under many circumstances, state privacy laws require businesses to pass a consumer's valid deletion request to any entity that processes the data on behalf of the business or otherwise is a recipient of the data. These so-called “flow-down” obligations can be challenging to unpack. Professionally, she's an executive leadership coach. 0:03:44 Great leaders don't just ask “what we are trying to accomplish?”, but also, “what is important about it?” 0:04:07 When we start a meeting establishing the purpose of the meeting, it creates power. 0:04:20 Beginning a 13-14 Sunday School class by establishing the purpose 0:05:43 “Of all the things you're trying to accomplish with this summit, what's the most important thing you'd hope they'd learn and they're longing to hear?” 0:06:00 (Kurt) Hope people walk away with a deeper ability and motivation to run a meeting 0:06:50 We meet to unify. We meet to connect. We meet to multiply our resources together. D&C 43:8-9 – When we meet, we should instruct and edify one another 0:08:08 To “instruct and edify together” implies that each participant holds a piece – no one person holds all the pieces 0:11:06 Each person in a council has a unique strength and a unique perspective. 0:13:23 DeAnna's experience with a leader having a diametrically opposed viewpoint – she might have a difficult time understanding his perspective. She sometimes had a difficult time communicating with him. It helped them to understand how the other viewed situations. 0:15:29 Feelings of self-consciousness, uncertainty, and fear led to defensiveness. Granting herself grace allowed her to grant others grace, and remove the defensiveness. 0:16:05 Citing Ether 12:27 (weakness that they may be humble); DeAnna focuses on Ether 12:37 (because you see your weakness, you'll be made strong) 0:16:35 DeAnna's weaknesses were not made strong by becoming like her Stake President. Instead, they learned from each other, they became stronger in each other, and were unified in the Savior. 0:19:00 Identify what is important about the meeting 0:19:18 Identify “how” we will be together: (1) There's always room for the Savior (2) Recognize we see things differently 0:20:30 Three or four questions always help to create clarity: (1) “What are you noticing…” or “I'm noticing…” (2) “What's important about that?” (3) “What does it mean?” (4) “Now what do we do about it” (“Why?When? How?”) 0:22:58 What do you do when you're in a meeting and you realize that you're not tracking what is being said? Many remain silent. 0:24:00 Feeling confusion in a meeting may be a spiritual prompting that others are confused. Consider that speaking up will likely help others in the room, not just yourself. 0:24:35 Going into meetings, agree about how we are going to “be” together. Set up ground rules for how we will conduct the meetings and participate. 0:26:17 Google experiment: The number one thing contributing to high-performing teams – cohesive and agile – was psychological safety. 0:27:17 There's nothing more intimidating that being one of three women in a room with 15 men in their suits.
Joined on this episode by the one and only Steve Kaiser, checking in from the future, and from Australia. We discuss the Aussie approach to training methodology, Structural firefighting and water application. The importance of decon and their approach to it, knowing your craft and staying plugged in. It was an awesome time, and of course as always the direction and topics were ultimately controlled by the awesome questions from the audience!
Joined on this episode by Chief John Lightly and we had lots of stuff to discuss. Topics include, Good VS. Toxic Leadership, mindset and creating change in your organization. The ways in which instructors are failing and how we can improve. The Curse of knowledge. When to follow the book and when to throw it out the window. And of course that is just the tip of the iceberg and does not include the wonderful questions that the audience derailed our plans with! Enjoy the show!!!
