You've heard of the Bermuda Triangle before. Perhaps you've even heard of the Devil's Triangle or the Bridgewater Triangle. But have you ever heard of the Alaskan Triangle? No? Neither had we.Since 1988, more than 16,000 persons have disappeared in the Alaska Triangle. A missing person rate more than double the national average. What could be the cause of all those missing persons cases? The rough natural environment, foul play or vast expanses of forest? Or could it possibly be something supernatural? Ashley Rosewood from Studying Scarlet Podcast teamed up with Emily for this week's mid-week special crossover episode focusing on some truly mysterious cases from Germany.Emily discusses the little known tale of the exorcism of Gottliebin Dittus. In 1840, a relatively unlikable (by 1840s Germany standards) young woman, Gottliebin, began to experience some strange happenings from phantom knocks and bangs in the home to loss of consciousness and bleeding breasts. After observing her convulsing and speaking in multiple languages, local pastor, Johann Cristoff Blumhardt, determined she must be possessed by not 1 or 2, but 1067 demons and lost souls who were themselves possessed. It took nearly 2 more years and some horrific occurrences for Gottliebin to finally be rid of the evil. Ashley tackles the sad story of the girl in the box. On September 15, 1981, 10 year old Ursula Herrmann went missing on her short bike ride home. The eventual discovery of her body in a box only brought more questions than answers. Who could do this to a little girl? Did they actually intend to ransom her? Did they get the right man? Ashley explores the many strange twists and turns of this case and leaves both hosts feeling there is still much more to discover. Also, if you have any information regarding the missing person case of Ashley Morin, please contact the Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers: 1-800-222-8477 https://www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=206#Tipline Email: shorturl.at/pHKMXhttps://www.facebook.com/bringashleymorinhome/Check out Studying Scarlet Podcast on https://linktr.ee/StudyIngScarlet to find them on all your favorite listening and social media platformsSources regarding Gottliebin Dittus:http://hanswaldvogel.com/lib/Zuendel%20-%20Awakening.pdfhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Blumhardthttps://mysteriousuniverse.org/2016/12/mysterious-real-cases-of-demonic-possession/Sources regarding Ursula Herrmann:https://www.theguardian.com/news/2019/sep/24/ursula-herrmann-germany-kidnapping-mysteryhttps://www.newser.com/story/280905/the-kidnappers-put-her-in-a-box-it-had-one-fatal-flaw.htmlBuzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! This episode was a recommendation from our wonderful spirit, Tom, from Apocalypse in Review podcast. This week, Emily tackles the very strange story of the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California. Sarah Winchester suffered many hard losses in her life, and in her later years, she used the immense fortune she'd inherited to build an incredible 24,000 square foot mansion. Continually under construction from 1886-1922, the home had no formal blue print. Rumor has it, Sarah would hold nightly seances to convene with the spirits, who would in turn tell her where and what to build next. These instructions from beyond the veil were then handed to her dedicated construction crew, who carried out Sarah's every wish, no matter how unusual. In the end, the property sprawled across 4.5 acres and contained oddities such as a cabinet spanning the length of 30 rooms, stairways that lead to no where and 13 bathrooms, only one of which was functional. Was Sarah truly haunted by the ghosts of Winchester victims or was she simply a lonely, heart broken philanthropist who used her fortune to lift a local community? Sarah left no diary and answered no interviews, so we will likely never truly know.Don't forge to check out this week's spotlight, The Native Arts and Culture Foundation, which supports the arts and cultures of Native American, Alaskan Native and Hawaiian Native communities https://www.nativeartsandcultures.org/donateThis week's featured podcast trailers were fromKudzu Killers: Homicide and Sweet Tea https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kudzu-killers-homicide-and-sweet-tea/id1517389908And The True Crime Witch Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-true-crime-witch-podcast/id1483665898Merchandise for Drink Drunk Dead can be purchased at https://www.teepublic.com/user/drink-drunk-dead-podcastBuzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! In this week's episode, Joel takes us overseas to an island off the coast of Japan, known as Okinawa. This ancient island has history spanning the ages from Samurai to soldiers. Until its demolition in 2009 ,the American Air Base located on the island was home to what was considered the most actively haunted home in the entire US military system. A father murdered his entire family and took his own life, then the next family to occupy the home, repeated the same terrible story. The phantom children around the home were known to ask the children at the neighboring daycare center for toys, and a female spirit and the shade of an ancient Samurai warrior would make their presences known within the home.Elsewhere on the island, a cave near the location of a WWII Japanese field hospital is said to be haunted by the spirits of young women who took their lives inside, out of fear of the impending American occupation. An old man watches over the those who venture near a local suicide cliff. Locals fear the sight of him, because after each reported encounter bodies of deceased will wash up on the shore just a few days later. Is he an angel of death? Is he warning visitors of the danger? Or is he seeking help for those who have jumped into the water below?SpotlightDon't forget to check out this week's spotlight, Transwomen Inc. This week, we've changed things up a bit. Instead of the usual 2 stories, we bring you one truly spooky story of a famously haunted location, The Waverly Hills Sanatorium. It began as a hospital to treat tuberculosis patients that quickly became overwhelmed by the number of afflicted flowing through its doors. At one point, there was reported to have been one death every hour, and the most efficient way to move the bodies of the deceased out of the hospital was by sending them down what became known as the "body chute". After the discovery of the streptomycin to treat the disease in the 1940s, the cases gradually declined and the hospital eventually closed in 1961. The building's next incarnation was as a home for the mentally disabled and the elderly. The patients suffered terribly at the overcrowded and understaffed facility, which operated for 20 years before finally being shut down due to charges of neglect. After this, the building passed through many hands before the Mattinglys finally acquired it in the early 2000s. Now, what is reported to be one of the most haunted buildings in America offers ghost tours as a way to bring in income for the restorations that are planned. From heart broken nurses to a playful little boy, wailing in the dark and the smells of baking bread, shadow figures and The Crawler, Waverly Hills has many spirits forever making their rounds. You asked and we answered! At your request, we took on not one but two of your favorite topics!Emily digs into the origins of the black eyed kids (BEK). It all began in a mini-mall parking lot in Abilene, Texas in 1996. Since then, these beings have been spotted all over the world and terrified countless people. At first, they seem like normal, if not a bit odd, children, until the fear strikes and they look you in the eye. What ever you do, don't let them in.Joel journeyed to Rhode Island for a haunted lighthouse that has it all; angry female spirits, wailing fire victims, torture, death and even a ghost ship! If you're a man and you intend to spend the night, be prepared for Mad Maggie to make herself known in less than pleasant ways. But first, watch the sunset and possibly catch sight of a flaming ghost ship complete with screaming fire victims. We also have a spooky listener story from Ashley of Studying Scarlet podcast. How close to reality did the films The Exorcist and Poltergeist really come? Joel tells the dark story of Ronald Hunkeler, aka Roland Doe. Was this child just spoiled and cruel or was he truly suffering from a terrible possession? Accounts of his quality of character vary, but there is no doubt the boy underwent multiple exorcisms in a very short period of time and suffered greatly both mentally and physically. His story went on to inspire the hit film, The Exorcist.Emily discusses the crazy tale of Popper the Poltergeist who haunted the Herrmann family of Long Island for only one month in 1958. In that time, law enforcement, scientists, contractors, fire fighters and every day people tried but failed to find a reasonable explanation for the strange occurrences in the home. In less than a month, Popper caused so much trouble, Life and Time magazines covered the story. A little over 2 decades later, the Herrmann's experiences inspired Steven Spielberg's Poltergeist. We just couldn't get enough of encounters with UFOs, so this week, we researched tales of abductions! On October 4, 2001 in Australia, a young woman is abducted, late one evening, right in front of her business partner. As the police begin investigating her disappearance, she calls from a hospital room 800 kilometers away with one seriously strange story of how she arrived there. Was this all an elaborate hoax or did she, her husband and her business partner have to go into hiding because of the Men in Brown... er Black? In what would come to be known as the first UFO encounter declared by a historical society to be fact, a young boy, Thomas Reed, was repeatedly abducted by unknown beings in the late 1960s. In his small town of Sheffield, Massachusetts, he and his family were ridiculed mercilessly, until one final abduction was witnessed by dozens of others. Do you believe he and his family truly had "off world experiences"?This week's episode spotlight is on the PFLAG Organization. https://pflag.org/Don't forget to check out their website to donate, find local chapters and learn how to become and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. No big surprise here. The government covers up information about a UFO sighting in Stephenville, Texas in 2008. A large flying object with lights like lava is spotted by experienced pilots and the average Joe alike. When the men in black arrive, vague threats and cover ups abound. What do you think? Did they spot a ship from another world? It's war games off the coast of California in 2004, when flying tic tacs appear and really mess up a picture perfect afternoon. This incident not only revealed the existence of a shadow program but also inspired congress to consider whether UFOs pose a legitimate threat to the US military. Emily and Joel both went overseas for this episode all about haunted houses. Emily took a trip across the pond to 50 Berkeley Square in London where a nameless horror once prowled a stately townhouse. Whatever evil dwelled in that house brought such terror to those who saw it, they died of fright and the evidence was forever frozen on their lifeless faces. Joel decided to go down under to the Monte Cristo Homestead in Australia. A family that seemed like good Christian folk built its fortune on the developing railroad. The truth of the lives of those who lived on that homestead was far less godly and pure. Terrible suffering occurred on this property, and the stain of it still remains to this day.Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! Emily's still riding high on her 2nd grade accomplishments... nearly 30 years later. The familiar story of Tombstone, Arizona has cowboys, outlaws and gun battles with lawmen, but Joel found another curious story from the wild west town. Was it once home to a thunderbird that was shot down and studied? While there are those who claim to remember this beast in written history, all evidence seems to have been erased. Time travel, government coverup or something else entirely? Emily travels overseas to Argyllshire, Scotland for tales of a giant, malevolent bird there, known as the boobrie. Is it friend or foe? Old tales have differing points of view, but whatever the truth, this is one interesting bird.Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! Who knew there were so many flavors of 'squatch?! If you're a fan of Bigfoot, this is the episode you've been waiting for. In the south eastern US, there reportedly lives a foul smelling bipedal beast known as the Skunk Ape or Swamp Squatch. Is this creature Bigfoot's cousin or just an escaped orangutan? Those who've seen it, swear it can't be any previously described animal. On the other side of the country, in the pacific north west, a monster was thought to have been born after the explosion of Mount St Helen in 1980. This is a sasquatch unlike any you've ever heard of before. It's a surprise, though, so you'll have to listen in!Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!
