Located between Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and the tip of Florida, this area has puzzled people for over 100 years. From the spooky disappearance of the USS Cyclops with 306 crew members in 1918 to the more recent sinking of the SS El Faro in 2015, the Bermuda Triangle becomes more mysterious year after year. Tonight we'll look at some of the strangest events in the Triangle, like Flight 19, which vanished during a routine training mission; and the Witchcraft, a boat that disappeared just minutes after calling for help. We'll look at other locations around the world similar to the Bermuda Triangle that don't get the same recognition – but are just as mysterious. The cabin cruiser Witchcraft was gone by the time the Coast Guard arrived, about 20 minutes after Dan Burack radioed for a tow off Miami in December 1967, and the SS El Faro went down in Hurricane Joaquin on October 1st, 2015, and was later found sitting upright 15,000 feet below the surface.From there, it follows the map biologist Ivan T. Sanderson drew in the early 1970s of 12 Vile Vortices, among them Japan's Devil's Sea, where the research vessel Kaio Maru No. 5 disappeared with 31 aboard in 1952, and the Wharton Basin in the Indian Ocean, a possible resting place for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.Next come the sea monsters, starting with the serpent hundreds of people reported off the Massachusetts coast in 1817 and again in 1819. Captain Peter M'Quhae of HMS Daedalus told the Royal Navy in 1848 that he and his officers had watched a 60-foot serpent for 20 minutes, and Christopher Columbus wrote in his journal on January 9th, 1493, that the three mermaids he'd seen were "not half as beautiful as they are said to be".The episode closes with ghost ships, from the SS Ourang Medan, whose crew was said to be found dead in the Strait of Malacca in the 1940s before the ship burst into flames, to the Mary Celeste, found drifting near Portugal in 1872 with its lifeboat and 10-person crew gone, and the SS Baychimo, an abandoned cargo ship spotted drifting in the Arctic until 1969.

In 1933, a Scottish botanist watched a seemingly abandoned steamship drift past the Alaskan coast on an ice floe. It appeared upside down in a strange mirage, with no crew and no one at the wheel. This ship was the Baychimo, which was abandoned two years earlier, but refused to disappear. In January 1921, a five-masted schooner was discovered run aground off the coast of North Carolina with no crew aboard and no clear signs of struggle. Personal belongings, navigation equipment, and the ship's lifeboats were missing, leaving investigators with more questions than answers and a trio of cats, which had been the only signs of life aboard the abandoned ship.
