"It's Never Too Late To Mend"Well, we made it safely out of jail! On this episode, we'll discuss general insights from our tour of the historic Old Joliet Jail that was in operation from 1858 until closing in 2002. We'll focus on some key creepy parts of the "haunted" facility from our experience, plus female prisoners and of course, Gacy (he's not there, guys). Bodmin Jail, located in Cornwall, England, is a historic prison that dates back to 1779. Originally built to house criminals and debtors, it became notorious for its harsh conditions and public executions. The jail's imposing architecture and eerie atmosphere have made it a popular site for ghost tours and paranormal investigations. Recently restored, Bodmin Jail now features a museum, offering visitors a glimpse into the grim realities of 18th and 19th-century prison life. The jail's history, combined with its modern exhibits, provides a captivating experience for those interested in England's penal past and haunted heritage. My Special Guest Is Joseph Carter With an academic background in Hauntology and a vision to reimagine the chilling spectacles of Bodmin Jail Joseph Carter has firmly established himself as the new Paranormal Manager. Guided by "Honesty, Integrity and Curiosity" he aims to harmonise spiritual and academic approaches, by bringing a rich body of research into the ghostly inhabitants of the jail. It's that time of year! Car Con Carne hit the road to visit the The Old Joliet Haunted Prison (401 Woodruff Rd, Joliet, IL 60432). Sharing in the spooktacular with me were James Farber and Patrick McDermott of local band James The Boneless . We talked about our experiences walking through the attractions at the Old Joliet Prison, and dove into James's story of heroin addiction and recovery. It's harrowing stuff, and we're lucky and grateful he came out on the other side. Also: while we were talking in the car, the haunted house came to us. It was insane (in the best possible way). We love spooky season, but lots of local and regional haunts make us feel sorta gross. Across the nation, many former prisons and psychiatric hospitals, including a few near us, have been revamped into haunted houses that rely on the cruel, scary, and sensational aspects of prison life to entertain. We're with journalist Hope Corrigan, who wrote a story about it all for The Marshall Project. Here is a link if you want to give it a read: https://www.themarshallproject.org/2022/06/09/rethinking-prison-tourism Hope also recommends checking out Clint Smith's book, How the Word is Passed, for more on "prison tourism." It's episode 273 and we're having a Missouri moment! First Em takes us to the Missouri State Penitentiary, also known as the bloodiest 47 acres in America. And if you need a code word today might we suggest: horselawn... and that's why we drink!
"As we got out of the car, we all froze. In the light, we saw very tiny handprints, like that of a six-year-old, all over our car."TW! TW! TW! Examples of suicide, sexual abuse, and murder are present in both of Dan's stories. The first is a shorter tale that Dan promised to share here after a recent episode of the Timesuck Podcast when he talked about the 1980 New Mexico Prison Riot. The now closed prison has been supposedly haunted ever since that riot, and today we explore those claims. His big second story is the tale of Maurice Theriault. A name that probably rings familiar to a lot of horror film fans. Infamous demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren of the Conjuring universe were part of an exorcism on Maurice in May of 1985. Lynze has her usual two stories but this week, it's a little bit different. She shares encounters from the same fan who has two unrelated experiences about 10 or so years apart. Both stories are scary and interesting in their own ways!BAD MAGIC SUMMER CAMP TICKETS GO ON SALE MARCH 15TH, 2022 AT 12:00 PT!!!!!
