The faux crime comedy podcast hosted by your favorite team of sister sleuths, Kelly and Karen!
The It's A Clue podcast is an absolute delight for fans of Nancy Drew and mysteries in general. The podcast is hosted by two sisters, Karen and Kelly, who bring their sisterly banter, love for the books, and hilarious insights to each episode. As someone who grew up with Nancy Drew, I find this podcast to be a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a fresh twist. The hosts not only discuss the Nancy Drew books but also dive into special episodes featuring "super sleuth" books. Their genuine affection for each other and shared sense of humor adds an extra layer of enjoyment to every episode.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the dynamic between Karen and Kelly. Their sisterly banter is both endearing and entertaining, making it feel like you're part of their conversation. Their obvious love for the Nancy Drew series shines through in each episode, as they analyze the books in a fun and insightful way. They provide summaries and character descriptions that make it easy to follow along even if you haven't read the books yourself. Additionally, they often touch on historical context, discussing what was happening in the country when the books were published, which adds depth to their analysis.
While there aren't many negative aspects to this podcast, one potential drawback is that it may not appeal to those who are not familiar or interested in Nancy Drew or mystery novels. The podcast focuses solely on these topics, so if you're looking for a more diverse range of genres or themes, this may not be the podcast for you. However, if you're a fan of Nancy Drew or enjoy hearing lively discussions about mysteries, then this podcast will certainly satisfy your cravings.
In conclusion, The It's A Clue podcast is a must-listen for fans of Nancy Drew and anyone who appreciates a good mystery. Karen and Kelly's infectious laughter and witty insights make each episode engaging and entertaining from start to finish. Whether you're reliving the joy of reading Nancy Drew as a child or discovering new YA mysteries to explore, this podcast will bring a smile to your face and keep you eagerly awaiting each new episode.
In episode 74, we delve into Nancy Drew & The Sky Phantom. We need to know - what are YOU wearing to a last-minute masquerade? In addition to the titular "Skyjinx"(TM), there were too many crash landings for Karen's liking, and not enough duels for Kelly's. There are many lessons learned, including:magnetized clouds are rough on 'dometerssecret societies shouldn't have membership listsNancy needs to establish a risk assessment plan with an operational mindsetAlso, Bess almost breaks up the Clue Crew. In this episode of It's A Clue, we discuss Nancy Drew & The Secret of the Forgotten City! But first, we crash elaborate field trips, Karen learns why vacation is a thing, Kelly heeds the PSA, and we fangirl over The Residence. Otherwise, this book was pretty “whelp”, but there were some (unintentionally) funny moments that put the shine back on our apple. In this book, George grabs a car snake by the face, everyone's terrible at archaeology, there are lots of overly complicated codes, Nancy completes a truly epic craft project, and a dude named Archie has strong “well actually” vibes while contributing nothing to the plot. In episode 72 of It's A Clue, we talk about our new favorite sleuth-y book, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson! First though, Karen loves Annie Oakley and people singing with gusto, and Kelly was a life-sized paper doll and is chasing happy. Then, on to AGGG2M, which we loved! Let's talk about how cool Pippa is, her similarities and differences to Nancy Drew, and the neat things the book (and audiobook!) did to help immerse the reader into the solve. Whelp folks, we loved this weird eyeball book! Nancy has competition in the sleuthing space, Carson's got an unrequested new workplace boo, Nancy subverts her jealousy into soil samples, Ned is 'napped again, we have a legit psycho killer (insert song here), and most importantly, the boyfriend bracket is BACK! But before talking about Nancy Drew & The Double Jinx Mystery, Karen wants to be a psychic as anxiety treatment, Kelly wants the Goldilocks amount of information, and we need your super sleuth recs! Also, Karen has amazing personal banter (check out her crochet skills @NevermoreKnots), and Kelly is in the midst of autumnal joy. We learn about the etymology of the word "jinx", Nancy hunts down Slick Fingers O'Mayley with to her clever forensic artistry skills, Merv Marvel is a Joker-style leaper, there's a Robin Cook style outbreak, there's a last-minute barn cult, and Nancy can identify a land mine at a great distance with high accuracy. In addition to setting poor boundaries with her clients, Nancy will wow you with her piano skills, her next level social engineering capabilities, and her fearlessness before the villianiest villain to date, BUSHY TROTT.We'll regale you with our lingering trauma around high school theater foibles, and we even manage to launch a new Ned Nickerson pun into the Nancy-verse! Bonus: Find out why Kelly is afraid of her mailbox and why Karen is really doing CrossFit.Rated 10.5 out of 12 black widow spiders (which sounds like a bad thing, but is really a pretty good rating).
Welcome to episode 29, in which we spend more time talking about Anastasia Romanov than "Nancy Drew and the Clue in the Jewel Box". Trophy winners from this book include: Escaped Romanovs hiding out in River Heights, Helen Corning's return to our lives (thank goodness), and Nancy's meteoric rise to to the top of the local modeling industry. Unfortunately, there are no corn mazes but there is an autumnal hay ride, so we'll take it. Most importantly, we've agreed to write Nancy Drew: The Musical in our spare time. Listen to the end for a sneak peak of what are sure to be the greatest hits from the soundtrack. We'll be auditioning for tap dancing twins shortly.Rated 9 out of 12 Faberge Eggs.
If you guessed "Nancy Drew & the Quest of the Missing Map" had something to do with a buried treasure, welp, you were correct. Brace yourself for an (extremely brief) island adventure, a bad guy named (wait for it) SNORKY, and a full on sea captain infestation near land-locked River Heights. If you're interested in solving a missing treasure case, we will present you with some available real-life opportunities, so dust off your codebreaking skills. As the kids say, "X marks the spot." In other news, Kelly momentarily forgets how to podcast and Karen premiers the world's first Hannah Gruen pun. Most importantly, we're gonna start writing anachronistic fanfic about Mrs. Nancy's Mom.Rated 5 out of 12 poisoned pea soups.
The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is finally here and we DEVOURED it! The sequel to the Inheritance Games, this book doubles down on the puzzles, teen drama, and thrillery goodness we have all come to cherish. Karen does an impromptu William Blake poetry recitation and Kelly blows it out of the water with her theories for the conclusion of the trilogy. Our sisterhood becomes divided over allegiances to competing Hawthorne brothers, but we forge a truce in our devotion to Libby, the greatest character of all time. (Except for Helen. #teamhelenalways)Just remember: SPOILERS. Listen to the end for the upcoming reading list and an exciting update on our next Super Sleuth episode!Rating: 10.5 out of 12 private jets
You thought Nancy was going to chill at a Moss Covered Mansion this week? PSYCH! She's going straight to NASA! We've got exploding oranges. We've got look-a-likes. We've got an illegal, poorly-fenced big cat preserve and a subterranean death lair. Bess has a run-in with an alligator because FLORIDA! If you loved Austin Powers, you're going to love Nancy's adventure to prevent a spaceship from being exploded. Also, we've officially turned on Ned. In other news, a railroad tycoon is actively trying to haunt Kelly out of her home. Karen wiped out while running so please be gentle with her feelings (and foot). Rating: 7 out of 7 exploding oranges
It's Brass Bound Trunk o'clock, and (spoiler alert) we un-ironically LOVED this book. This week we have international cruises, random roommates, deadly meteors, skateboarding demon children, ping pong tournaments... What's not to love?! Kelly even shares a thoughtful literary analysis using classic plot devices from Friends, which will change lives.Additionally, Karen confesses to a secret hobby, Kelly has gotten worse at pottery, and we all need to re-watch Titanic because it's constantly applicable in day-to-day life.Rated 11 out of 12 life preservers.
Whelp, it finally happened. We mistakenly read different versions of "The Clue of the Tapping Heels". Regardless of the (many and insane) divergences, both feature garage-fulls of titian-furred cats, midnight tapping, tap dancing, morse code taps, and a Tony-Award winning off-off -off Broadway production of "The Tapping Heels". Join us as we discuss the two different iterations of this book, recap how chickens work, reveal how not to dismantle a bomb, and reminisce about our long-lost love John McBride. Nancy stars in a show, Karen is a weaver, and Kelly is waiting for pumpkin season. Rated 8 out of 12 cans of tuna.
