Revelator started as an online collaborative project in 2011, and matured into a live indie rock band with the release of their 2017 album #Muricana. Heath Lane and Jon Rasmussen have been with the project from the start, acting as the creative force for the album. Jared Burger and William Smith have joined the band to bring the sound to the stage and bring their own input into new music going forward. On the latest record and in their live performance, they blend a post-grunge indie rock sound with touches of the small town south, both lyrically and rhythmically, to create something fresh that conveys a sense of nostalgia at the same time. That all changed in 2011 when his song "She Don't Like Firefly" went viral on YouTube. His career as a geek musician was set in motion and to this day, Mikey creates art and music that makes geeks happy. We thought about calling this a show about nothing. On the advice of our attorney, we decided to not do that. Since we have a betting pool on who actually reads these descriptions, we'll let you in on a behind-the-scenes secret. This episode is from the same recording session as Episode 140. That's right. We're serving you leftovers. But all kidding aside, we were open about our lockdown lifestyle and how it feels to be on the back end of it. Oh, there some political stuff too. And by the way, Chris lost his mind a little on the intro. Please don't hold it against him. We think his affinity for cartoons is finally rotting his brain as our Boomer parents promised.
Here we are, born to be kings, relegated to the role of podcasters. In this episode, Chris and Tina talk about finally taking the plunge with HBO Max and the show that finally pushed them over the decision line. We continue with commentary on Falcon & Winter Soldier, which will contain all manner of spoilery goodness. So if you do not yet know the difference between wizards and sorcerers, maybe go watch on Disney+ before listening to this episode.
Heath and his family braved the pandemic landscape for their long-delayed trip to Walt Disney World. Heath used our call-in line to gave us a first-hand on-site report of his impressions of Galaxy's Edge, the Star Wars-themed land at Disney Hollywood Studios. He tells us tales of flying the Millennium Falcon, joining the Resistance, drinking blue milk, and more. After Heath's messages, Chris and Tina introduce you to their new friend.
Team NerdBliss gives their feedback on the Disney+ limited series, WandaVision. We also check in with some messages from the NerdBliss Call-In line.
We wrap up our coverage of the first two seasons of The Mandalorian with the full interviews with our four guest contributors, and we had a little bit of fun with it. Once again, they are Adam "Sexy Thor" Whetston who is the host of The Ring of Thunder podcast and co-host on Thunder Talk (both on the ESO Network), J.T. Wheatley who is the host of History of Comic Books Podcast, Jon Rasmussen who is in the band Revelator, creator of Solo Side Project, and host of Black Market Toast podcast, and Nathan Laws, host of The 42 Cast (available on the ESO Network) and Timestreams podcasts.
The second part of our discussion of The Mandalorian with guest contributors J.T. Wheatley, Jon Rasmussen, Adam Whetston, and Nathan Laws.
After decades of wishing and dreaming, of rumors and dashed hopes, we finally have our live-action Star Wars television series. The second season of The Mandalorian wrapped not long ago with an ending that had many in tears. Part One of our discussion recaps the first season with some elements of the second season touched on. Part Two will mainly focus on the second season and that amazing ending!
This is the second of two episodes that include the full interviews from the guest contributors from Episode 134 about Star Trek: Lower Decks. As a bonus, we've included trivia questions between each segment. Part Two includes the submissions from Marc B. Lee, Shawn Vanderloo, Montgomery Lopez, and Leslie E. Owen. Time Index: 3:03 - Marc B. Lee 9:22 - Shawn Vanderloo 16:47 - The Monster 28:07 - Leslie E. Owen
This is the first of two episodes that include the full interviews from the guest contributors from Episode 134 about Star Trek: Lower Decks. As a bonus, we've included trivia questions between each segment. Part One includes the submissions from Eric L. Watts, Evan Harris, Erika Figueroa, Jeff Jewell, Leila McMichael, and Brian Holloway. CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS - SEASON ONE
Viacom CBS has been expanding their use of the Star Trek license since the debut of Star Trek: Discovery in 2017. In late 2018, the announcement was made for the adult animated comedy series, Star Trek: Lower Decks. To use the Trekkie cliché, CBS was boldly going where no Star Trek series has gone before. While adult animation is not exactly a gamble in 2020, there was some doubt among Trek fans as to whether it would work in Roddenberry's universe. As of August 6th, 2020, we can now decide for ourselves. Mike McMahan's (Rick and Morty) take on Trek is now available for our enjoyment or torment on CBS All Access (and Netflix outside of the U.S.) Does it succeed where Discovery and Picard fell short? The Nerdbliss crew as well as 10 other episode contributors are here to deliver the verdict.
We of The NerdBliss Podcast are from a cartoon generation. We got to see the golden age and the end of Saturday morning cartoons. We had the best after-school shows that anyone could ask for. We dedicated this episode to our favorite memories of the cartoons we loved (and a couple that we didn't). Call or text us 24/7 at (864) 715-9446 and leave us feedback on this or any other episode. We might play or read your message on the show!
If you follow this show and are seeing this as a new episode post, you're probably very tired of hearing about COVID-19 by now. Honestly, we sincerely hope you're not looking BACK on this episode as a record of the time before civilization fell. As of March 2020, many have died of COVID-19 around the world, with hundreds of thousands of people confirmed as having the virus. These are scary times, and we give voice to some of our specific fears in this episode. We also talk about how we are coping and staying positive during “social distancing” and self-imposed quarantine in our homes.
This show was recorded on 10-20-2019. Show Topics: Voice to text Bell-bottoms or flares? Pre-distressed jeans. The benefits of pantyhose. The science of perversion and kink / vanilla shaming The need for outside validation Facebook interactions Vince McMahon, WWE, and classic wrestling The sinister circumstances of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain
We take a stab at figuring out the deal with Birds of Prey: The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. We'll go ahead and tell you here that those of us that saw the movie enjoyed it. In fact, most people that we heard from liked the movie. So what are the real reasons for its modest box office take? Also, would you like us to talk about Cartoon Network's DC Super Hero Girls? Also, since season one of The Mandalorian has all been released, what do you do with your Disney+ subscription? We have some suggestions! But do not think we actually kept the entire show on topic. We finish with a geeky stream of consciousness that covers voice acting, Transformers, The Toys That Made Us, Supaidaman, and more! #nerdblisspodcast #ESOnetwork Call or text us 24/7 at (864) 715-9446 and leave us feedback on this or any other episode. We might play or read your message on the show!
After a segment of free-associative conversation that goes from The Mandalorian to Kevin Smith to He-Man and Skeletor. We then focus the rest of the episode on the series finale of BoJack Horseman. We were pretty emotionally invested in BoJack's fate. How did we handle the outcome? Listen and find out. Call or text us 24/7 at (864) 715-9446 and leave us feedback on this or any other episode. We might play or read your message on the show!
Our deep and sincere love for Sir Patrick Stewart begins the second part of our discussion of Star Trek: Picard. We were two episodes in at the time we recorded this episode. We revisit the classic sticking points of the Star Trek fandom. Are angry fans simply mourning the loss of their youth? This dovetails into a discussion of the evolution of classic bands Red Hot Chili Peppers and Faith No More. Then there's Eminem. Does Marshall still Mathers? We definitely think so.
The wait is finally over, and Star Trek: Picard is finally here! After a brief interchange about Schitt's Creek and Eugene Levy's eyebrows, we dive deep into a nerdy stream of consciousness about Picard, Romulans, Data, synthetic lifeforms, the Borg, profanity, and much, much more!
Strap yourself in, Major Tom. This episode makes about as much sense as the existence of The U.S, Space Force. In the wake of two major episodes about Star Wars related stuff, we wring just a little more blood out of the Star Wars turnip and then hit upon topics that include The World According To Jeff Goldblum, Dolly Parton, Seth Macfarlane's move to NBC, Screwball peanut butter whiskey, and the live-action Aladdin. We then discuss the absurdity known as the U.S. Space Force. Call or text us 24/7 at (864) 715-9446 and leave us feedback on this or any other episode. We might play or read your message on the show!
The Skywalker saga has ended, for better or worse. No need in putting off the inevitable any longer. We give our thoughts on The Rise of Skywalker. What did we like? What didn't we like? Was it a fitting farewell to Carrie Fisher? Did J.J. try to undo The Last Jedi? You may or may not agree with us, but here is our verdict.
This session was recorded on 12/29/2019. In this episode, we continue our discussion of The Mandalorian after the first season finale aired. But before we get to that, Tina and Chris talk about seeing Cats The Movie. As a fan of the original London stage show, Chris has some rather strong feelings about this movie as well as its overall reception. Only then do you get to hear our thoughts on all that Mandalorian goodness. CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE MANDALORIAN, SEASON 1 Call or text us 24/7 at (864) 715-9446 and leave us feedback on this or any other episode. We might play or read your message on the show!
We're back, if a little late to the game. We're going to play a little catch-up. We recorded this episode on 12/1/2019. Disney+ had been with us less than a month, and already we were gorging ourselves on the likes of The World According to Jeff Goldblum and the Ducktales reboot. But of course, the real Disney+ payload was the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. We had four episodes under our belts and we gave our first impressions...as if you can't guess what they are.
On its face, Netflix's adult animated series BoJack Horseman appears to be typical of the genre, using the inexplicable incorporation of anthropomorphic animals with humans as its apparent hook. Once you get beyond that particular oddity, you will get a show that is not only a very good comedy, but that goes into some very real, and very dark places. Chris, Tina, and Heath watched the show up to the end of the first half of Season 6, (with the final episodes of the series set to go live in January 2020) and discuss how this very funny and somewhat trigger-y show affected them. SPOILER WARNING - BOJACK HORSEMAN SEASON 6. We recommend watching at least some of the series to get the most out of this podcast episode. It contains MANY SPOILERS. If you're planning to watch the show with no knowledge of what's to come, skip this episode and come back to it once you're caught up.
After DragonCon 2019, we had a chance to meet up with our good friend Eric L. Watts, Chairman of Treklanta and C.O. of the U.S.S. Republic, the Atlanta chapter of Starfleet International. In this completely candid conversation, Eric takes the gloves off and tells the unvarnished truth about the state of Treklanta. If you are a Star Trek fan in the southeast United States (or anywhere), you need to hear what Eric has to say.
We had a great time at DragonCon 2019. We talked to some of our geek friends and to some of the other con-goers and met with our fellow ESO Network hosts. Take a listen and get to know the other awesome ESO show hosts. You'll like them, we promise. :)
The agreement between Marvel and Sony that allowed Spider-Man to be a part of the MCU has come to an abrupt end. Is the arrangement really over, or will Sony and Marvel come back to the table? What would it mean if the arrangement really is over? We also talk about the Amazon Prime series The Boys and give our reactions to the teaser trailer for The Mandalorian. Call or text us 24/7 at (864) 715-9446 and leave us feedback on this or any other episode. We might play or read your message on the show!
We've been talking a lot about guitars lately. You can blame Chris for that. Since he's learning to play, he's done a lot of research on the topic and he just uses this show to let it spill over. Besides that, we talk about Millennials and hipsters while trying to find adequate definitions for each. We discuss whether or not vinyl is superior to digital as a music medium, and the differences in production between classic rock and modern rock.
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic exploded in popularity in ways that no one could have predicted. It ended up having an appeal that transcended ages and genders. As this episode was recorded the ninth and final season of the show was airing. We look back at the show as a whole and what we loved about it.
What started out as an intended discussion on some of the reveals and news from San Diego ComicCon, turned mostly into a discussion about Top Gun: Maverick, Star Trek: Picard, Stranger Things 3, and the trailer for Cats.
Heath & Chris engage in guitar-related geekery that quite honestly could have gone on all day. Rather than that, we'll just call this part one. We also make some predictions about San Diego Comic-Con 2019 (which will be over by the time you hear this).
We had the tremendous privilege to talk with Mark McCray. Mark is a senior programming manager at Adult Swim and the author of the book The Best Saturdays of Our Lives. During the 70's, 80's and 90's, Mark wrote a newsletter that provided commentary and reviews on the various shows that were aired on Saturday mornings, which he sent to some of the biggest names in the cartoon world. The book is a collection of the best of those newsletters as well as memoirs and interviews that any fan of Saturday morning cartoons is sure to love.
In this episode we welcome our friend from Treklanta, Tasheka Gipson. Tasheka works as a speech pathologist and has degrees in Molecular Biology, Speech Pathology, and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). She was inspired by Star Trek at a young age to explore and study science, and was a recipient of a scholarship to attend Space Camp. It was our great pleasure to have her as a guest.
