Thema: Wie wird Strategie wieder sichtbar? „Wir müssen aufhören, Strategie als Vorlauf für Kreation zu verstehen.“ In der neuen Episode von #WhatsNextAgencies spricht Kim Alexandra Notz mit Julia Jarosch, Head of Strategy bei Scholz & Friends Hamburg, über die Rolle von Strategie in der Agenturwelt. Julia beschreibt, warum Strategie noch immer häufig als Vorarbeit für Kreation verstanden wird, obwohl ihre eigentliche Aufgabe längst eine andere ist. Es geht nicht darum, Briefings abzuarbeiten, sondern Businessprobleme zu verstehen, Orientierung zu schaffen und die richtigen Fragen zu stellen. Gerade in einer immer komplexeren Marketingwelt wird strategisches Denken damit zu einem entscheidenden Erfolgsfaktor. Im Gespräch geht es außerdem darum, wie sich das Strategie-Gewerk weiterentwickeln muss und welche Fähigkeiten Strateginnen und Strategen künftig brauchen. KI kann Analysen beschleunigen und neue Perspektiven eröffnen, ersetzt aber weder Urteilsvermögen noch Haltung oder die Fähigkeit, komplexe Zusammenhänge in überzeugende Geschichten zu übersetzen. Deshalb spricht Julia auch darüber, wie Strategie-Nachwuchs heute ausgebildet werden sollte. Nicht nur mit Methoden und Tools, sondern vor allem durch Praxis, kritisches Hinterfragen und den Mut, eine eigene Perspektive zu entwickeln. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ist die Verbindung von Strategie und Culture. Julia erklärt, warum Cultural Marketing kein Spezialthema einzelner Units sein sollte, sondern von Beginn an Teil strategischer Markenführung sein muss. Denn wer Communities wirklich verstehen will, muss sich langfristig mit ihnen auseinandersetzen, statt sie nur punktuell für Kampagnen zu nutzen.

The best organizations are people-oriented and performance-driven — in that order. When performance leads and people follow, bad things happen. Every hire, especially at the CEO level, should be evaluated through three lenses: strengths, motivations, and fit. Viewing the business as an asset — not a legacy — is what makes a clean exit possible. Founders who treat their company as an asset can make clear-headed decisions about growth, transition, and sale. Those who treat it purely as a legacy often hold on too long, stall the next generation, and turn what was once a strength into a bottleneck. Hubris is the silent killer of succession. When leaders believe they are the only ones who can run the business, delegation collapses, decision-making centralizes, and the organization becomes dependent on one person. Chip has seen companies where no one could spend $100 without CEO approval — and half the leadership team couldn't survive the transition when that CEO finally left. Retirement has three stages — and most founders only plan for the first one. Vacation, depression, and meaning and purpose. The honeymoon phase fades fast. Founders who haven't built outside interests, hobbies, or identity beyond the business hit a wall — and without a plan, depression follows. The goal is to reach meaning and purpose before a crisis forces the issue. Crisis is often the catalyst for transition — but it doesn't have to be. Whether it's a health scare, a lost client, or a market shift, crises force the introspection that should have happened years earlier. Chip advocates for doing that work proactively — in your 50s or early 60s — before external pressure removes your options. A hobby isn't a luxury — it's a succession strategy. Finding something outside the business that gives you purpose, community, and a sense of leadership is one of the most practical things a founder can do to prepare for transition. Seit mehr als 20 Jahren kennen sich Tankred Stachelhaus und Andy Scholz. Zum ersten Mal begegneten sie sich, als Tankred einen Artikel über die fotografische Arbeit von Andy in einer Essener Tageszeitung schrieb. Im Kunstverein Ruhr treffen sie sich wieder, um die Zeit etwas Revue passieren zu lassen. Die Diplomarbeit von Andy Scholz wurde übrigens 2005 im Forum für Kunst und Architektur gezeigt, in dem das öffentliche Gespräch am 20. März 2026 stattfand. Tankred Stachelhaus, Jahrgang 1970, ist Magister der Kommunikationswissenschaft, Germanistik und Philosophie, Vorsitzender des Kunstvereins Ruhr, Mitbegründer der Essener Ausstellungsreihe »Kunst im Wohnraum« und Jurymitglied des Förderpreises »Junge Positionen NRW«. Im Terminal des Düsseldorfer Flughafens initiierte und kuratierte er die preisgekrönte Schau »Art Walk«. Über zwei Jahrzehnte lang begleitete er unter anderem für die Neue Ruhr Zeitung, die KUNSTZEITUNG und den Informationsdienst KUNST die Kunst- und Ausstellungsszene in Essen, dem Ruhrgebiet und Nordrhein-Westfalen. Er begleitete mit seinen Texten und Reden zahlreiche Kataloge und Vernissagen. Darüber hinaus ist er Gitarrist der »Funkrockimprovisationskappelle ›Projekt‹«. Andy Scholz wurde 1971 in Varel geboren, studierte zunächst Philosophie und Medienwissenschaften, um dann schließlich an der Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen einen künstlerischen Abschluss in Fotografie zu machen. Er lebt seit mehr als 20 Jahren mit seiner Familie als freier Künstler, Autor und Dozent in Essen-Rüttenscheid. Seine Arbeiten wurden seitdem international ausgestellt. Zahlreiche Lehraufträge führten ihn quer durch die Bundesrepublik und die USA. Als Kurator und Künstlerischer Leiter machte er sich zuletzt einen Namen mit Ausstellungen und Symposien für das INTERNATIONALE FESTIVAL FOTOGRAFISCHER BILDER sowie als Herausgeber und Moderator vom Podcast: Fotografie Neu Denken. Wieso Olaf Scholz für Olympische Spiele in Hamburg wirbt, weshalb es in den kommenden Tagen laut wird in Hamburg und warum Otto vorsichtig in die Zukunft blickt.

Natürlich ist der Weinservice von Christian Scholz fast wie eine kleine Aufführung. Präzise Bewegungen, ein intuitiv definierter Tonfall, ein Vokabular, das sich zwischen Gästerespekt und tiefgründiger Kennerschaft bewegt. Und natürlich ist er auch einer der Weinmenschen, die nicht nur einschenken, sondern positiv inszenieren. Ist er doch der Chef-Weinkellner in einem der derzeit gefragtesten Restaurants unserer Republik. Dem Restaurant Haerlin im Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg, einem jener Orte, an denen große Namen, große Flaschen und große Erwartungen täglich aufeinandertreffen. Und eben genau dort begegnet Christian Scholz dem Wein nicht wie ein Schatzanbeter, sondern eher wie ein Kurator. Ein Treuhänder von sage und schreibe 100.000 Flaschen. Und er versteht, dass große Weine nicht deshalb groß sind, weil sie teuer sind, sondern weil sie etwas erzählen. Und er archiviert diese Geschichten über Herkunft, über Zeit, über Geschichte und natürlich über die Menschen. Nicht, weil Archivare staubige Verwalter wären. Sondern weil sie entscheiden, was bewahrt und vermittelt werden muss. Er wirkt nicht wie jemand, der sich vom bloßen Prestige beeindrucken lässt. Das ist in einer Branche, in der Etiketten gelegentlich fast mehr Aufmerksamkeit bekommen als Inhalte, bemerkenswert. Große Weine interessieren ihn – aber nicht als Trophäen. Sondern als kulturelle Objekte mit Aussagekraft. Ein Sommelier wie er sammelt nicht wahllos Worte, Geschichten und Wein. Er bewertet. Trennt Substanz von Dekoration. Dauer von Trend. Relevanz von Lärm. Und genau das scheint Christian Scholz auszuzeichnen. Diese Episode ist kein Spaziergang durch gefällige Lieblingsweine. Sie ist ein Gespräch über Verantwortung, über Geschmack, über Mechanismen einer Branche, die zwischen echter Leidenschaft und perfekter Selbstinszenierung pendelt. When a spacecraft deploys a solar sail millions of kilometers from Earth, there's no room for memory bugs, race conditions, or software failures.
