On this week's podcast, Pat Cobe, senior menu editor of Restaurant Business, and Bret Thorn, senior food & beverage editor of Nation's Restaurant News and Restaurant Hospitality, talk about how tennis players aren't the only stars at the US Open, which kicked off on Monday. There's a lot of star power off the courts, with more than 20 top New York City restaurants and chefs offering their specialties over the next two weeks. The podcast guest this week is JJ Johnson, a well-known TV chef, James Beard award-winning cookbook author and founder of Fieldtrip, a fast casual bowl concept that reflects the chef's Afro-Caribbean roots. Johnson worked as a fine-dining chef before opening Fieldtrip, which now has four locations, including the newest at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Johnson started Fieldtrip to bring healthier, affordable restaurant food to his Harlem community. He sources top quality ingredients, including rice from farmers in North Carolina, to curate his rice bowls, which also include fresh vegetables and proteins for a complete meal. All the sauces are made from scratch to give the bowls unique flavor profiles. Listen as chef and restaurateur Johnson describes his vision for Fieldtrip, his cooking adventures at Martha's Vineyard and his plans for the future.
The Mikes are heading down to Nassau, Bahamas to hang out with Woody Harrelson, steal a diamond, watch some sunsets and also watch Pierce Brosnan and Selma Hayek make out...a lot. That's right, Mike Butler and Mike Field are talking about After the Sunset! This big nothing burger (Field's words) was directed by Bret Ratner and basically plays out like an add for Atlantis Resort. While Butler enjoys the "lighter fare" that the film serves up, Field is having none of it. Some people just can't be satisfied, am I right? We were able to status match our Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Status to the Caesar's Diamond Status when Scott was recently in Vegas. Then with that, Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas offers free stays to those who hold status with another Casino (we've also heard of Caesar's and MGM doing this with other brands so it doesn't hurt to ask). In addition, Holland America also offers a free cruise in an inside stateroom to those holding status with a Casino Brand. So these types of Status Matches are definitely worth checking out. We just got back from Atlantis for our free stay so we will be doing a podcast episode soon and we go on the Holland America cruise after Thanksgiving. 2. Schrager's official title is the Chief Communications Officer & SVP Social Responsibility for Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits, the world's largest distributor of wines & spirits. But the title he is most excited about right now is as founder of the brand-new inaugural Nassau Paradise Island Wine & Food Festival (NPIWFF) taking place at the iconic Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Headlining chefs at NPIWFF include Aaron Sanchez, Andrew Zimmern, Alex Guarnaschelli, Michael White, Jose Andres, Duff Goldman and more! For many years, I discounted several mental health tools. Hypnosis was one of them. One of my first experiences was watching volunteers get hypnotized on a stage at The Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. You know, that big pink hotel? Fast forward a few years, and I found hypnotherapy was a way to gain personal awareness and to re-frame the stories of the mind. In this episode, I share some of my experiences with hypnotherapy. I've tried it through a downloadable app, through YouTube, and through virtual sessions with a hypnotherapist. It's different than I thought. I'm glad I've tried it and turn to it at times where I'd like to explore some of my beliefs. It can help you offer up your best work, reach back to heal a thought that you've carried with you for a long time, or just want to experiment. I encourage you to give it a try. You don't have to go on a stage. You don't need to sit and close your eyes in the office of someone you don't know. It's available to you right now wherever you are.

He's appeared on America's Got Talent, CBS's The Early Show, Inside Edition, and CBS Sunday Morning, and at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, the Golden Phoenix Casino in Reno, and three times at the White House! He's an innovator of the circus arts and a founding member of the internationally recognized electronic circus art duo, AudioBody. The most impressive thing, however, is the fact that he appears regularly with our own Human Variety show Coach Steve Corning. I know! National television broadcasts, appearances at the White House, well-respected innovator in the circus arts aside, he performs with our very own coach! Okay Coach, I added it, you can Venmo me the funds any time. Jason was fantastic. What do you expect? He's been performing since he was 15. He's funny, engaging, and a heck of a Visiting Professor. Rumor has it breathes fire for us during the show! Want to see the fire eating and breathing? The video will be released Tuesday, September 22nd at 3pm or follow our YouTube for details. David Letterman referred to Norm Macdonald as “maybe the smartest guy in comedy,” and Jerry Seinfeld described his approach as “sophisticated dumbness.”I interviewed the former Saturday Night Live star in the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas during a poker tournament he was playing in. During the interview, I learned that Macdonald is someone that doesn't drink alcohol and asked if I could also interview him for the AA Podcast, and he agreed. A few nights later, I watched Macdonald perform standup, and it was the funniest show I had ever seen. What made the moment special, was Macdonald had made a significant portion of his act about our interview. We talked about a lot of stuff in our 25-minutes together, but the main takeaway for me was the ability to speak to a creative genius about the difference in performing and writing when drinking and when not, as I know members of the Strive movement worry about making this transition. The interview was very impromptu. I have missed a few minutes off the video, and there is a lot of background noise as we are in the middle of the poker room, but I am sure it won’t take away from the pleasure of listening to one of the world’s stop standup artists talking about why he doesn’t drink alcohol. Norm Macdonald has two shows on Netflix: Norm Macdonald Has a Show, and Hitler's Dog, Gossip & Trickery. Chris Moneymaker forever changed the poker world when his win in the 2003 World Series of Poker main event helped to spark a boom. The accountant from Tennessee with the prophetic last name bested Phil Ivey and Sam Farha on his way to a $2.5 million payday, and a lasting endorsement deal with PokerStars. Although he doesn't play much during the summer anymore, Moneymaker has still managed to rack up some big scores in the years since, finishing runner up in the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star and in the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship, as well as making a deep run in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure main event. Now 42 years old, Moneymaker is getting his own tour from PokerStars. The online poker site is partnering with casinos from around the U.S. to send players to the $25,000 buy-in, PokerStars Players Championship at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas this January. For just $86, players on the Moneymaker PSPC Tour have a chance to win a $30,000 prize package that will be added to the prize pool at each stop. Highlights from this interview include Hall of Fame worthiness, getting your own tour, was it $39 or $86?, fake Moneymaker prostitution charges, an easy summer schedule, playing with Jack Keller and giving back to the fans, the perfect amount of fame, getting impromptu rap performances from the rail, moving out of the city, being the 'dumbest guy in the room,' adjusting to life after the main event win, living under Peyton Manning, finding the eye of the tiger, and stacking Ben Affleck in a cash game.
