Brandon Eisman is extra.…extra committed to love, acceptance, and diversity; extra focused on creating a positive platform for the LGBTQ+ community; extra determined to keep Lawrence a community supportive of ALL people. A vibrant artist, entertainer, advocate, educator and local personality, Brandon, known as Deja Brooks when performing, has made an impressive, cultural footprint (often beneath a stunning gown) on Lawrence – a city known for academia, diversity and the arts. Eisman's ambition to celebrate compassion and community is as high-reaching as Deja's hair. He is an active contributor to the AIDS Walk, Red Ribbon Art Auction, Cooper's Couture, Lawrence Humane Society, Willow Domestic Violence Center, and board member for Douglas County AIDS Project, Theatre Lawrence and the Lawrence Public Library Friends & Foundation. Recently, Eisman was selected as one of the Unmistakably Local Experts for Explore Lawrence. Additionally, Deja has been crowned the Kansas City Pride Queen 2005, Miss Gay Tri-States America 2009, 1st Alt. to Miss Gay Western States America 2011 and was a serious contender for Miss Gay America, the longest running pageantry system for female impersonation. In March 2020, Deja was crowned the very first Miss Gay Kansas United States and will be competing for the National pageant in November. Despite his numerous accomplishments and titles, Brandon's Transformations Charity Gala and Deja's Reading Rainbow at the Lawrence Public Library are the crown jewels. Transformations, voted 2017's Best Annual Event, has raised over $90,000 for local charities since its inception in 2012 and empowers local men and women to embrace their inner drag queens. At the library, bedecked in one-of-a-kind dresses and over-the-top accessories, Deja hosts a drag queen story time, celebrating families of all kinds, love, friendship and pride for what makes us each unique. Clearly, Eisman is extra. He manages to do all of this while also being the proud parent of a teenage son. He wears multiple hats (each perfectly paired with Louis and Louboutins) and his narrative of hope, kindness and unity gives us life. An athlete with an interesting story, that's how Jeremy McGhee would classify himself. "I never thought I would be a corporate speaker, but here I am." In an image-rich compelling tale, Jeremy recounts the Bloody Couloir expedition, where he climbed and skied a major backcountry ski route, without the use of his legs. He provokes a deep look in the mirror by explaining how he finds motivation himself and invokes a sense of hope by sharing the exciting things he is involved with now. His presentation is about the immediacy of deciding now what you want in life and getting to work on the little things every day to get there no matter what it takes. Jeremy uses the image of a pioneer, traveling into the wild west for the first time, to paint the picture of how he approaches a life without rules or a sense of entitlement. A pioneer needed to find strength in being adaptable because the world was certainly not going to adapt to them. "Life changes. Roll with the punches," Jeremy likes to say. Title: Summary:      Ability to initiate a firm relationship that is built on trust and transparency Biggest black eye in my industry is the lack of attention, honesty and integrity with clients The most important thing I do is to follow through with relationships Fun Fact: speaks Spanish and is an avid surfer Started in the fitness industry at 18 years old. Knew that he wanted to get into leadership at 24Hour Fitness. Became a vice-president within 4 years. Fitness and financial industry are really not that different – both take discipline, direction and accountability. Learning how to cultivate relationships is both nature and nurture. The next generation has so few human interactions and it is a major concern because they don’t understand the value of relationships. Statutory employee – company agrees to pay your benefits, but everything else is self-funded. The most successful CEO’s are up and working before most people are even out of bed. I have to ask my clients daily for help to grow my business. If you cannot come up with a creative way to have your clients to introduce you, long term you are not going to be working with clients you actually like.     Notable Quotes From This Episode: Relationships supersede knowledge My job is to force you to confront the things that aren’t coming natural to you in regards to money If I don’t want to talk to anyone, I tell them I sell insurance. If I want to talk to everyone, I tell them I manage money. Challenge with millennials is that they all want to be entrepreneurs but very few have had real experience in actually being an entrepreneur. This business is made for and should only be about relationships. I don’t think the Big Ask is human nature. Hello Big Askers and welcome to the Big Ask Podcast! I’m your host Nicole Matthews and this is THE podcast for consumers of humorous and inspiring life stories, energetic entrepreneurs hungry for best practices, and real honest talk about the world we live in today. I love being in the room with dynamic business colleagues, mentors and individuals operating at their highest vibration so the fact that I get to interview these dynamos and share their stories with you is a great honor. After 20 years in the special events industry, the last 11 as an entrepreneur, I have continually benefited from asking for help. By leaning on my network and putting my Big Ask out into the world, I have gown The Henley Company, my event, travel and lifestyle management firm, into a global agency, I’ve had the opportunity to work at multiple Olympic, FIFA and Super Bowl programs around the world, and I have written a book called Permission: Stop Competing and Start Creating the Life You Want To Live. The #1 question I get as an entrepreneur, speaker, author and professor is….how did you do it? The answer is always the same….I asked for help! With intention, I have grown my business and more importantly, collected unbelievable life experiences, because I have never been shy about putting my big ask out into the world. We are going to have refreshingly candid conversations, we might not always agree and we might come from very different backgrounds, but we are going to be respectful, honest and committed to the motto: real is easier than perfect!
