A quote from the podcast...  As a leader, particularly one that is brought in from the outside, you MUST understand ever piece of the business.  You’ve got to get your hands dirty, so to speak, by spending time with your direct reports.  I’m certainly not saying that you should be the expert in what they do, but you do have to understand how the processes run, how equipment works, how much time things take, what challenges your people face, and so on.  To lead without a complete understanding of the work being done is ineffective and unacceptable.  It may mean that you have to put in a ton of extra time and effort to learn what you don’t know.  Follow your people around, read the manuals, ask questions, learn how to operate equipment if there is some, understand the challenges that they face.  By immersing yourself into the details, long enough to learn them, it allows you the ability to step back and lead from a position of understanding and first-hand experience.   To get your 2 free, no-obligation, coaching sessions, contact us at ask@pxppodcast.com or call/text 334-633-3300.   Let's get started today! In this episode, we are talking about consistency, in particular, being a leader that is consistent in how they treat their teams, how they handle problems, how they praise, how they communicate, and how they follow through on commitments.  I think we can all relate to a boss or supervisor that we had at some point in our career that failed to maintain a sense of consistency.  Perhaps that leader was us, we were the one that was inconsistent. The challenge in having a leader that is inconsistent is that it’s hard for that leader to build trust, loyalty, and dedication.   Be a leader that follows through on their commitments.  If you can’t do what you say, don’t say it to begin with.  If you say it, do it.  Be a leader that can be relied upon to keep their word. So, may challenge to you today – be a leader that is consistent.  Consistent in treating employees the same, consistent in delivering accountability, consistent in praise, and consistent in keeping your commitments.  In doing so, you are going to be a well respected leader with loyal and dedicated employees who are willing to go the extra mile to ensure your team is successful.
