On today's show, Scoot talks about rumors that Taylor Swift is considering motherhood, Mayor Cantrell's $20 million public school funding debacle, and Donald Trump's $5 million gold card for citizenship, the possibility of putting Trump's face on a $250, and people giving Amanda Shaw a hard time for going to Nashville. Apparently a few cranks are bitching that Amanda is spending time in Nashville and a little less time in New Orleans, because they are joyless idiots with nothing better to do

Send us a Text Message.Never Let a Closed Door Keep You Out.Kate Miller has had a prolific career as an actress – from starring on Broadway with Carol Burnett in Moon Over Buffalo, to working the soap opera scene in New York on One Life to Live, to working opposite Tom Selleck in CBS's Blue Bloods, to her latest role as Amanda Shaw in Hightown, Kate has done it all. Not bad for a woman I met in her 20's playing a rambunctious Tatiana in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream with a theater company performing on the streets of New York City. In an industry that is known for discarding women after a certain age, Kate did the impossible and reinvented herself and her career in her 40s – in Los Angeles! Despite the doors being closed to her. As she says no one in Hollywood was interested in her when she showed up to begin her television career in Hollywood Land. But she persisted and those doors eventually opened to her. Today, Kate is sanguine about those times she was wandering in the wilderness of an industry that worships at the altar of youth. Kate used those hard times and the down times that she faced, as a catalyst for huge growth and personal changes that she says were necessary. She got married. She bought a house. Made a posthumous peace with a mother with whom she had a complex relationship. All the stuff that grown people hopefully do – settle into their life. Learn a few lessons. Live. We talk about major writing tenets like plot, character, and setting all the time in fiction and nonfiction, but how do these ideas come up in poetry? Hosts Abi Newhouse and Aeriel Merillat speak with The Inner Loop's May Author's Corner spotlight, Amanda Shaw, about rooting the readers inside a poem, crafting a story's arc through a poetry collection, and the many levels of time throughout it all. Plus, try your hand at our trivia game, in which we guess which story matches each specific setting.
There's a certain magic that happens when someone takes a leap of faith from a secure path into the unpredictable yet thrilling world of entrepreneurship, especially when it involves our four-legged friends. Amanda Shaw's story is one such tale, starting her journey as a dedicated student of neuroscience and emerging as a full-service event planner for the most joyous dog birthday parties. Listen as we navigate the intricacies of crafting the perfect canine celebration, weaving in the heartfelt narratives of support from loved ones and the emotional bond we share with our pets.Useful Links :https://www.thebarkdayplanner.com/Follow Amanda on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/thebarkdayplanner/Support the Show. THE SHAWS MULTIPLIED by Doris HoweWe are all descendants of Adam and Eve. God told Abraham that he and his wife's descendants would outnumber the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. At last count, Douglas and Amanda Shaw have 133 living descendants. Sixty-six books of the Bible chronicle stories and instructions from the lives and descendants of Adam, Eve, Sarah, and Abraham. The Shaws Multiplied briefly tells stories of the lives, adventures, and experiences of some of the descendants of Douglas and Amanda Shaw-some deceased and other still living. From the stories depicting character traits, personalities, education, and occupations, I pray you will recognize traits that show who you are because of who they were. Be proud, stand taller, and continue to work on developing those positive attributes in you. Get acquainted with these folks and enjoy the memories.Doris Howe is a missionary with Youth with A Mission. Her mission field is in Tyler, Texas at Loving Alternative Adoption Agency. She has been an adoption caseworker for over 24 years. Her main task is to minister to young women who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy. She is to love them, educate them, and pray with them. God's ultimate call for Doris is to introduce these young women to Jesus Christ who is there to help change their lives. An adoption may or may not be part of that relationship. Doris has two books published. One is called Adoption Joys they expected a miracle. The other is a family book called The Shaws Multiplied. For 25 years I was a missionary with YWAM working in the Adoption leg of Living Alternatives. I often wrote newsletters to the couples with whom I had worked through adoption. Eventually I realized I had several stories about adoptions. Maybe there was the beginning of a book. Sure enough–the Adoption Joys They Expected A Miracle came about. Then about 3 years ago when I was praying I felt God said, “I'm sick and tired of the fatherlessness that is taking over this culture.” Of course, I agreed. I knew the second “adoption” book would become a reality.. It did.https://barnesandnoble.com/w/the-shaws-multiplied-doris-howe/1117048910?ean=9798988898023https://authordorishowe.com/https://www.olympusstoryhouse.com/

In this episode of dHarmic Evolution, James sits down with Amanda Shaw, a singer-songwriter from the UK. Amanda has this evocative distinct voice which rooted in her childhood and teen musical experiences. Her influences include Tori Amos, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Faith Hill. In the interview, Amanda shares about her passion, her stories, her journeys, her aspirations to go back to the center stage to share her music with the whole world. Conversation Highlights: [03:01] Amanda as a songwriter and singer [13:40] Learning the things of being a writer [28:40] Her process of songwriting [31:00] Amanda's writing regimen [44:51] Her Goals in the Next Months [53:23] London music scene in the eyes of Amanda The 3 Great Quotes from Amanda Shaw: [3:38] “As a musician, we have to wear so many hats... songwriting... performing...gigging.” [22:16] “As a singer and as a songwriter, we should have an end goal.” [22:21] “The reason why we get into music is not to write a hit song,... but we want to express ourselves.” An Interesting Interview Moment: Amanda shares her story with Kelly Clarkson when she was looking forward to putting together a new album. She considered her range and her sound. She wants to work it out for the song to make a hit. She also considered what the song tries to build and what story it tells. She mentions that it's important to identify the recurring theme. Then, she shares her writing regimen when she looks for ideas for her songs. She does not actually follow a daily process; rather, it's her creativity that switches her on. She mentions that she does not write in the morning but she expresses her ideas at 10 o'clock in the evening. Cool, right? For her, evenings are the best time to write because her tiredness throughout the day could not bring her creative self. Also, running makes her come up with creative, and she has morning pages where she writes all her ideas. Aside from songwriting, she would like to go back to the center stage as a performer. She also shares that she would be contacting publishing companies that might be interested in her songs. She would also try to set up gigs and be more visible on Facebook. She would opt to have an acoustic guitar and Cajon drums to accompany her in her performances. The 3 Great Songs of Amanda Shaw: [4:42] First Track: Sanctuary The title of the song means getting back to yourself again. It is finding that place in you, your sanctuary. She even mentions that you need time in finding it. [23:50] Second Track: Without You It was written by Andrew Ross, and it was recorded in his studio. In this music, there was a mood, and it sounds like what will happen to you when somebody leaves or is without you. [39:00] Third Track: Stelf This song was not written by Amanda. She explained the unique title of the song by connecting it with the tiger which is always ready to get its prey. Tigers do things in a clever way, and the person in the song is like a tiger. [47:26] Video: Black and Blue This song was written by Gabrielle Miller, and the video was made by Faraday Indiana. She was really inspired to sing it and had a great time filming the video. Amanda Shaw joins us live and a live performance from the Woodward family
I was born in Sussex, but did a lot of gigs in the Brighton area, I was influence by Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Delta Goodrem, and play piano and sing, I had a formal education and learned about piano and voice, I started with classical voice and training. 3 New records, Live for now, the acoustic album, & belle époque, is a co write with Maggie K De Monde, who was with Scarlet Fantastic in the 80's. No memory.........Belle époque brings me to a beautiful new era, and its time to embrace that, I met my other half, and I knew it was meant to be, and that song signifies this change..... I co wrote "Without You" with Andy Ross, as a kid I came up with melodies while I was running or walking, develop a melody, then go to the piano, and the lyrics most time comes last as the music is where the emotion is for me. Nature is a good influence on music. The London music scene is a great diverse area for music, there are lots of pubs and venues, open mic nights are really good for testing things out. Over the next year I would like to mix in some good cover songs with my own material, and find some great places to play that has a good sound system and sound engineer. To find an act that I can support on the road. I am most excited about my new albums coming out, and getting out and doing gigs and promoting my music, and publishing, and got my music on Holly Oaks, a television show. Just got my track "Summers Day" through Leopard Music! I like the Goo Goo Dolls, Foo Fighters, Michael Jackson, I like River Dance, how can they dance on an oil drum! the music is uplifting and has a great story! Interviews with notable New Orleans musicians - Jonathan Freilich Presents
Tim is an interesting figure in the New Orleans music vista. He plays Bourbon St. He is a survivor of that commercial zone and knows how to do it (or has the personality for it) in a way that doesn't limit him and has driven him plain crazy. Many have been driven in such a direction. Many people ask questions about validities and viabilities involved in music on Bourbon St. Tim, from first hand experience over lot of years, engages these questions:- What is Bourbon St.? How does that music zone operate differently and similarly to other parts of town? What are it's musical features and modes of development? Is there anything really good out there? There is much more, however, to Tim and to this interview. Tim is an avid experimental/modern/"classical" composer and has moved himself through in-depth, mentored, study in that direction too. For those who may wonder what the relevance of Bourbon St. and "classical" music is to New Orleans music and whether he can really talk about it, there is more. He also plays guitar with Neslort (if you don't know then be sure to go), Amanda Shaw, and two very interesting comico-satirical-serious groups that started quite a while ago and feature a very biting and immediate viewpoint voiced by Robertson: Dirty Mouth and Hot Karl. Enjoy the interview- there is a lot given. The interview was conducted, 5/1/12, at the orange couch in New Orleans. Part 1- Tim Green; Bourbon St. audiences; real bands as opposed to collections of players; how much playing time does he spend on Bourbon St?; how's the money?; how the material is selected and arranged; Tim's most important features of a good drummer; Tim's background and why he's in New Orleans; Mark Diflorio; John Bagnato; a cerebral player; at Duke University and dropping sports for music; fascination with music theory; Haydn scores, symmetry and structure; revisiting music from childhood.

Part 4- Uses of composition training in Tim's everyday work; Tim's harmonic language; how he appropriates work from scores; getting in to Amanda Shaw's band; fitting into Bourbon St. schedule and Neslort schedule; fitting well with the idiosyncracies of Rick Trolsen's music; "I have my own ideas about rhythm!"; "I never count in my brain higher than 3!"; Das Rhinegold; things that are coming up-Dirty Mouth, Trio; arguing on stage; Alex Mcmurray in a mini cooper; interviewer-->interviewee switcheroo; looking for financial independence to continue working on music development
