Lyme disease is a real lemon. Despite mainstream medicine building a consensus about Lyme Disease and Alpha-Gal Syndrome, and despite conspiracies surrounding the rejection of that consensus in favor of laboratory experiments gone wrong (or as planned), these "diseases" work on assumption and statical fraud: Lyme is caused by the Deer Tick, which is associated in general with the disease, and a set of symptoms that are the body's reaction to nearly every potential hazard; AGS is caused by the Lone Star Tick, which is associated in general with an allergic reaction. In both cases, only a percentage of the people “infected” come down symptoms that could also be the result of poor dietary and lifestyle habits — see fatigue and bodily pain. The fact is, visit the doctor with the symptoms in 2021, you have COVID; visit the doctor today and you have Lyme or AGS. As for red meat allergies caused by ticks, the case by case reporting is hype and assumption/association. Are there weaponized ticks being dropped off in boxes in the woods? Probably not, considering “tick boxes” are very real preventative measures that can be purchased to attract the bugs for extermination. Victorian based All Aussie Farmers have been working with American researchers to develop the antioxidant rich tomato, genetically modified with snapdragon DNA. A collection of lab-reared mosquitoes were dumped on Hawaii in June 2025. In 2008 the Gates Foundation paid Jichi Medical University $100,000 “to design a mosquito that can produce and secrete a malaria vaccine protein into a host's skin.” In 2010 Science Magazine online called these mosquitoes “flying vaccinators.” Years later genetically modified mosquitos were released in California and Florida, along with countries like Brazil. The reasoning varies: to stop invasive species, to breed away disease carriers, and to prevent malaria. But when you introduced modified species into a local population then you are introducing invasive species. When you try to limit population numbers you could end up killing all the local population. These experiments have all but failed completely. Besides, Malaria has a standard set of symptoms and most cases in the US and even Japan are from Africa, Southern Asia, and South America. There are virtually no domestic cases and so we know that mosquitos and bacteria do not cause malaria. So what's the point in releasing engineered insects? Perhaps it has something to do with black magic. The Japanese KODOKU and Chinese GU systems of magic involve the use of insects to inflict harm or obtain protection. Poisonous and venomous insects are placed in a container where they fight and die. The last surviving insect is then used to create poisons or protective charms. Consider this: genetically modified insects are released in large contained areas to fight insects carrying serious diseases. They are intended to kill off the local insect populations, at which point the invasive modified insect can be used to inject proteins into the local human population. A 62-year-old man in Boston in the United States has received a kidney from a genetically-engineered pig in the first transplant of its kind. Surgeons at Massachusetts General Hospital say if such procedures are carried out on a large scale, dialysis could become obsolete. Richard Slayman - whose previously transplanted human kidney began to fail last year - is recovering well after the four-hour surgery last week. His surgeons say they stand on the brink of a "monumental breakthrough". Also in the programme: we get an update from Haiti as we ask how the gangs are supplying themselves with sophisticated weapons; and celebrating World Poetry Day, we hear from Mary Jean Chan whose poetry collection "Bright Fear" has been nominated for the prestigious Dylan Thomas Prize. Work is underway to create a genetically altered wasp, which would be capable of eradicating all wasps. A collaboration of researchers are looking at whether a 'flaw' could be modified in to an invasive wasp species, which would subsequently spread it through a colony. Even if they're successful, the wasp they create will never actually be let out of the fully contained lab in Dunedin. The main outcome of the $11m dollar project is to determine the ethics of gene-driven pest control, and to consider whether such a technology could protect biodiversity - and do it safely. Amanda Black of Lincoln University is the co-director of Bioprotection Aotearoa, and the project's director researcher. And Peter Dearden of Otago University is the deputy director researcher, and also the director of Genomics Aotearoa - the first outfit in the world to genetically sequence a wasp.

One solution to unprecedented cattle die-offs: Modify cows so they can deal with record heat.

A genetically modified banana which has been engineered to resist disease is offering a glimmer of hope to the increasingly strained industry. There's been a considerable outbreak of Panama disease recently, a fungus which decimates banana plants. In the 1950s, it wiped out the Gros Michel banana, which was replaced with the one we now know and love: the Cavendish. Back then, the Cavendish was immune to Panama, but a new fungal strain - known as tropical race 4 - means that's not the case anymore. Across the ditch, scientists have been working on a genetically modified, disease-resistant type of Cavendish banana - and it's now been submitted for regulatory approval to the Australian Government. If it gets the green light, it'll be the first genetically-modified banana approved anywhere in the world - though it wouldn't immediately be rolled out for human consumption. Distinguished Professor James Dale of Queensland University of Technology has been working on it for the better part of three decades, and he speaks to Kathryn Ryan from Queensland.
