“Where are the ducks!?”You want answers and we don't blame you. This episode explores some hard truths affecting where and when ducks arrive in the southern United States. Our expert panel includes host, Joel Brice, Chief Conservation Officer, with guests John Devney, Chief Policy Officer, Dr. Frank Rohwer, president and chief scientist of Delta Waterfowl, and Dr. Chris Nicolai, waterfowl scientist. You've been asking. We've heard you. There are five key parts of duck distribution:Duck Production – When conditions are dry on the prairies, like they've been for years now, few ducks are produced. That means there are fewer juvenile birds in the fall flight. Birds of the year are easier to hunt, so the overall numbers seen and taken drops. Weather Variability – We talk to long-time hunters and farmers in Canada and the Dakotas. They tell us it's staying warmer, longer in the north country. Here in North Dakota, it used to be 50/50 whether we'd be frozen out by Halloween. Now the water commonly remains wide open and fields stay bare of snow until Thanksgiving, even Christmas. Ducks are staying north longer. Changes in Agriculture – There's a lot of internet chatter about migrations and wintering areas shifting, but the data mostly shows otherwise. However, in the core wintering areas, agricultural practices have changed and that impacts exactly where within those areas those the birds hang out. Public Land Issues – Public lands – HISTORICALLY FAMOUS places to provide habitat and high quality hunting opportunities [BM1] – are falling to ruin due to declining resources for maintenance and management. On the other hand, private lands are being managed more beneficially than ever, so that too impacts where ducks spend their time. Hunter Expectations and Regulations –At Delta WE ARE THE DUCK HUNTERS ORGANIZATION. We understand expectations are influenced by what you've experienced, the kind of seasons you've lived through, the variety of regulations you've hunted under in your lifetime, and – today – by social media. What you've personally lived through determines what YOU consider a LOUSY duck season or a GREAT one.The dedicated team at Delta doesn't take any of this lightly. We're digging in, and doing the analysis.Delta Waterfowl: https://deltawaterfowl.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DeltaFans/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/deltawaterfowl/Twitter: https://twitter.com/DeltaWaterfowl/

Join Jim and Greg for 3 Martini Lunch as they analyze President Trump's latest tariffs, the FBI's complicity in silencing on the Hunter Biden laptop, and the underwhelming leadership of House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries.First, they break down Trump's sweeping new tariffs on most nations and imported automobiles, explaining the economic arguments for and against them and what the impact could be, depending upon how other nations respond. Jim also exposes how tariffs are being applied to places with no human inhabitants or economic relevance. Plus, they explain why anyone who grew up in the 1980s should understand this issue.Next, they examine newly revealed internal FBI chats proving the agency knew in mid-October 2020 that the Hunter Biden laptop was real and under criminal investigation—yet remained silent while Democrats and the media buried the story. Finally, while it's good for the GOP, they wonder why House Democrats continue backing Hakeem Jeffries as their leader. His speaking style lacks impact, and he repeatedly pushes unpopular positions—most recently daring Republicans to vote on the SAVE Act, which mandates photo ID and proof of citizenship to vote. Please visit our great sponsors:This spring, get up to 50% off select plants at Fast Growing Trees with code MARTINI, plus an extra 15% off at checkout on your first purchase! at https://fastgrowingtrees.com/MartiniNo missed calls, no missed customers with OpenPhone. Nintendo can't seem to do wrong these days, and its press unveiling of the Switch 2 should have been another glorious moment for the golden company. But just when everything seemed perfect, the Big N got greedy: expensive games, blank game cards, upgrade fees, and iffy backwards compatibility is killing a lot of that consumer goodwill. Should people buy a Switch 2 at launch...or wait for Nintendo to gain some common sense? Please visit www.lostnostalgia.com for everything vintage, curious, and weirdly overlooked. Thanks to Decktonic for the opening/closing tune.
This parable is a story about bad parenting, about a father who's willing to give it all away … even to kids who've proven they don't deserve it. It's a story about the love of a parent who persists in pursuing us, even though we continue to run away from home or continue to turn our faces from the music, even after we've been ceaselessly invited into the party. It's a story about lousy parenting. I mean, just think what would happen if we started following that example and loving everybody—even though they don't deserve it. Try to get that one through the Supreme Court right now. Subscribe to us on iTunes! Sermon text: web | doc

Watching polar bear mums and cubs emerge from their winter densPolar Bear mothers spend the winter in warm and cozy dens, gestating and then birthing their cubs, and right about now the baby bears are taking their first steps out of the dens and beginning to explore the real world. Using satellite collars and remote camera technology, researchers from Polar Bears International, the Norwegian Polar Institute, and the San Diego Wildlife alliance, now have an exciting new picture of how and when they leave their winter refuges. The team included Louise Archer, Polar Bears International Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto Scarborough, and their observations were published in The Journal of Wildlife Management.Lousy sleep? It's quality, not quantity that may be your problemResearchers from the University of Toronto Mississauga have compared sleep in modern, industrial societies with non-industrialised societies, such as remote tribes in Tanzania and the Amazon. The team, led by anthropologist David Samson, found that people in modern societies sleep for significantly longer, but have weaker natural circadian rhythms, and so their sleep is not as functional as it should be. The researchers say that could be because people in industrial societies have lost touch with cues that regulate our circadian rhythms, like light and temperature changes. The results were published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.Greenhouse gases are messing up low-earth orbit for satellitesWhile greenhouse gases are warming the Earth's surface, they're paradoxically cooling the upper atmosphere, causing it to contract. And this means trouble for low-earth orbit as space junk and defunct satellites are not running into the tenuous atmosphere and falling out of orbit as fast as they used to. This is making low earth orbit more crowded, and more dangerous. William Parker, a PhD candidate at MIT, led this research, which was published in the journal Nature Sustainability.A 3.5 billion year old crater in Australia is telling the story of the early EarthResearchers have discovered shattered rock in an area of rolling hills in Western Australia that they think is evidence of an enormous and ancient asteroid impact. This would be the oldest evidence of an impact crater preserved on Earth, and could tell us about how the surface of our planet was formed, and even how the conditions for life were created. Chris Kirkland, a professor of Geology at Curtain University in Perth Australia, was co-lead on this research with Dr. Tim Johnson. Their work was published in the journal Nature Communications.Beyond long COVID — how reinfections could be causing silent long term organ damageIt's now been five years since the COVID pandemic stopped the world in its tracks. The virus is still with us, and continues to make people sick. As many as 1 in 5 Canadians have experienced symptoms of long COVID, but scientists are finding that beyond that, each infection can also lead to long term silent cellular and organ damage. David Putrino, who's been studying COVID's long term effects at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, says even mild or asymptomatic COVID infections can lead to a wide range of silent long term heath impacts — compromising our immune, vascular, circulatory, renal, metabolic, gastrointestinal systems and even cognitive function.

However, they also discuss the reality that a pastor is not God and should never replace your personal relationship with Him. They emphasize the importance of testing every message, teaching, and advice against the truth of the Bible. Tune in for an honest conversation about discernment, accountability, and strengthening your faith through a deeper understanding of God's Word.
This Day in Legal History: First Formal Anti-slavery Resolution in American HistoryOn February 18, 1688, a group of Quakers in Germantown, Pennsylvania, drafted the first formal anti-slavery resolution in American history. Addressed to their local monthly meeting, the document condemned the practice of slavery and argued that it was incompatible with Christian teachings. The authors—Garret Henderich, Derick op de Graeff, Francis Daniel Pastorius, and Abram op de Graeff—compared enslaving Africans to the feared practice of Christian captives being taken by Turkish pirates. They pointed out the hypocrisy of Quakers, who sought religious freedom for themselves while denying liberty to others. The resolution questioned whether Christians had the moral right to enslave others based on race and emphasized the Golden Rule: treating others as one would want to be treated. It also warned of the possibility that enslaved people might eventually resist their oppression, raising the moral dilemma of whether their masters would then take up arms against them. The document urged Quakers to reconsider their complicity in slavery and to recognize the dignity and humanity of all people. Though the resolution was not immediately adopted by the broader Quaker community, it laid the groundwork for the abolitionist movement within the Society of Friends. Over time, Quakers became some of the most outspoken opponents of slavery in America. The Germantown protest stands as an early and courageous call for justice, foreshadowing the larger struggle for human rights that would unfold in the centuries to come. The Trump administration has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to lift a judge's order blocking the removal of Hampton Dellinger, head of the Office of Special Counsel, as litigation over his firing continues. Dellinger, appointed by former President Biden, was informed of his dismissal on February 7, but he sued, arguing that Trump lacked the authority to remove him without cause. Federal law allows the Special Counsel to be dismissed only for inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance. On February 12, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued a temporary restraining order reinstating Dellinger, stating that his firing violated legal job protections. The Justice Department, calling the ruling an attack on presidential authority, argues that courts should not dictate whom the president retains in his administration. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the administration's appeal, deeming it premature. This case may set an important precedent for Trump's broader efforts to reshape the federal government by removing independent agency heads. It follows a pattern of dismissals, including Trump's recent firing of 17 inspectors general without explanation. The Special Counsel's Office plays a crucial role in protecting whistleblowers and enforcing restrictions on political activity among federal employees.Trump administration turns to US Supreme Court in bid to fire agency head | ReutersPresident Donald Trump announced he will nominate Edward Martin for a full term as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. Martin, currently serving in an interim capacity, has drawn controversy for his past legal work. He previously represented individuals charged in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot and recently sought to drop charges against a defendant he once defended.Martin was also present outside the Capitol during the attack and has criticized the Justice Department's handling of the prosecutions. His nomination requires Senate approval, and ethical concerns have been raised about his involvement in cases related to former clients. Justice Department rules typically require attorneys to recuse themselves from such cases for at least a year.Trump, on his first day back in office, granted clemency to nearly all of the 1,600 people charged in connection with the riot. Martin's nomination is expected to face scrutiny due to his past legal advocacy for those involved in efforts to overturn the 2020 election.Trump to nominate top prosecutor Martin for permanent term as US attorney for DC | ReutersA former business development manager is suing Reed Smith LLP for at least $50,000 in unpaid overtime, claiming the firm misclassified her as a manager to avoid paying her for excessive work hours. Phoebe Medeiros filed the lawsuit in California state court, alleging she regularly worked 90-hour weeks, sometimes in shifts as long as 36 hours, despite official timesheets reflecting a standard 40-hour workweek.Medeiros, who transferred to Reed Smith's Southern California office in 2022, says she primarily worked under the direct instructions of partner Mark Pedretti, preparing business pitch materials and relaying information, rather than functioning as a true manager. Pedretti, who is not named as a defendant, has not commented on the lawsuit.Reed Smith has not responded to requests for comment, and neither Medeiros nor her attorneys from The Rutten Law Firm have provided statements. Medeiros has since left the firm and now works at Freshfields. The case, Medeiros v. Reed Smith, LLP, is being heard in California Superior Court for Los Angeles County.Reed Smith Sued by Business Development Manager for Overtime PayAnd in my column for Bloomberg Tax this week, I pitch the idea of tax-abatement bridge loans for office conversions. Post-pandemic, cities like New York, San Francisco, and Washington are struggling to revitalize commercial districts, with tax abatements for office-to-residential conversions proving ineffective because they only apply after project completion. Instead of making developers wait years to benefit, states should allow them to borrow against future tax savings through upfront, low-interest bridge loans—essentially restructuring the incentive rather than creating a new subsidy. With record-high office vacancies and persistent housing shortages, conversions make obvious policy sense. However, they remain slow due to high costs and the difficulty of securing favorable loans in the current interest rate environment. Existing tax incentives only kick in post-construction, forcing developers to front conversion costs while facing uncertainty about future property tax rates. A bridge loan program secured by future abatements would mitigate this risk by locking in tax savings at financing, providing developers with stable, immediate capital. The model would work through a public-private partnership: states would calculate future tax savings, commercial banks would underwrite low-interest loans secured by those abatements, and developers would repay the loans using the redirected tax breaks. Because funds would be deployed in phases based on project milestones, states wouldn't be on the hook for speculative projects that never materialize. Unlike grants or new subsidies, this wouldn't cost taxpayers beyond existing abatements, which are currently underutilized due to their delayed structure. This approach should appeal across the political spectrum—expanding housing supply without direct handouts to developers satisfies progressive concerns, while a self-financing mechanism aligns with fiscal conservatism. Similar models have worked elsewhere, such as Wisconsin's senior housing loan program and widely used tax increment financing districts. Given the scale of the housing crisis, cities can't afford to wait—tax-backed bridge loans offer a practical fix to a well-documented problem. This is a public episode. www.commsolutionsmn.com- It's been another year, and boy, has it been a strange one. A president dropped out of the presidential race, replaced by someone that never one a single vote from Democratic delegates and alternates. Then the former president becomes the president-elect, not done since Grover Cleveland. Unfortunately, the DFL trifecta that has ruined Minnesota for the last two years has one last set of laws taking effect on January 1st, 2025 before the newly-elected Republican House has a chance to put a stop to the madness. The Taylor Swift Bill makes sure that all ticket fees are disclosed on the front end so that there are no surprises. They passed a bill requiring job listings to include salary, benefits, etc... is it a violation of private enterprise or not when it's on a private job listing service? They also infringed on the second amendmemnt with their binary trigger ban. They also banned light bulbs that contain mercury (except where they want to allow them). Lastly there was a renter protection bill to allow tennants to associate against a property without retaliation from the landlord. The DOJ released the Herr Report, not exonerating Biden of wrongdoing, but just saying he was too old to be prosecuted. And he has remained our president? President Trump was shot and shot at on another occasion. We almost could have had a VP Tim Walz. That would have been disasterous. It was definitely weird. The face of the media has changed completely. Networks like CNN, ABC, MSNBC, CBS have all damaged their brand to a level that may never be repaired. Podcasters like Joe Rogan, Charlie Kirk, and Theo Vonn have all changed the conversation so that no one needs the mainstrean media. America used to lead the way in the Middle East. We don't necessarily agree with all of our foreign policy there, but the Biden administration completely destroyed the Abraham Accords, providing some peace in the area, and has straddled the fence between Hamas and our allies (Israel). We also carelessly crossed every one of Russia's red lines with Ukrainem. Biden's plolicies have brought us to the doorstep of WWIII. We're glad 2024 is over. 2025 looks to be a wild ride as well, but we think that it's going to be a lot better for all of us.
Jerry and CLo are here for the final Football Friday of the 2024 calendar year. Once again the locals are playing meaningless games. The Jets need to hire a GM and HC while the Giants could be looking for their next QB if they are able to lock down the first overall pick. Jerry and CLo think Deion Sanders and everything he knows makes his son Shedeur a more enticing prospect, not less. Pat Shurmur is Sanders' offensive coordinator at Colorado. Is his influence a negative for Giants fans? Since the Giants could have the top pick and their choice of a QB it's much easier to see how they can climb back to relevancy than how the Jets can pull it off. Pat Boyle is here for his first update of the day and begins with the Bears win over the Seahawks in a 6-3 snoozefest on Thursday night. The Nets are winning too many games for a team that is supposed to be tanking. Rutgers blew a big 4th quarter lead in the Rate Bowl in Arizona last night. Deion Sanders told his Colorado players he better not smell any smoke in the team hotel or it will be their last puff. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry and CLo says it's still hard to comprehend just how badly this season went for the Jets.

When you are truly stuck with a lousy option and need to accept it, what process can you follow?First, acknowledging the frustration. The grief. The loss. Second, trying to keep the finger-pointing and blame to a minimum. Backward-looking “if onlys” don't help. Third, trying to keep the focus on the future. Whatever that was now going to be. If there were lessons to be learned, trying to absorb them with grace and intention. Finally, keeping priorities clear. Join Jim and Greg as they dive into the final weekend of the campaign with two bad martinis and a three-pronged crazy one. Today, they tackle a weak October jobs report, concerning early voting trends for the GOP, and a wave of controversial statements shaping the end of the campaign.First, they are stunned by the October jobs report, which shows just 12,000 new jobs and a downward revision of 112,000 jobs for August and September. So the U.S. has lost 100,000 jobs in the past three months and the economy is still - by far - the top issue for voters. Jim also speculates on whether the looming election might be impacting these numbers.Next, after highlighting the very strong early vote numbers for the GOP in Nevada earlier this week, trends in Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Michigan now appear to be favoring Democrats. Jim takes a closer look at these patterns and considers whether party registration accurately reflects voter decisions—especially in critical Rust Belt states. Finally, they take three recent political comments and discuss how the media and opposing politicians are reacting to them. They dissect comments from Jimmy Kimmel about when Trump supporters should vote, Donald Trump's statement about Liz Cheney, and Mark Cuban alleging that Trump doesn't ever want to be around strong, intelligent women.

Julio Rodriguez was a top-5 picks in most drafts, but he's currently a bad hitter on a bad offense playing on a bad ankle, meaning that he won't give you stolen bases. Is he perhaps a drop for 2024? Fred Zinkie and Jeff Erickson explore that question and hone in on some second-half trends. --- 00:00 - Fred Pod 08-27 00:45 - Fred: I heard you and Scott talking about Julio Rodriguez. Can Julio be a 1st round 2025 pick and someone who you should drop right now? Lousy hitter, lousy offense, no base stealing with his ankle. 06:00 - Could J-Rod get shut down? 09:00 - Walker Buehler drop? 09:30 - Map out ahead of time 12:00 - Any injury cut, like Robbie Ray 13:30 - Kyle Tucker sprinting! 14:30 - Pick up more hot hands? Maybe just better matchups. 16:50 - Don't cut Luis Robert 23:45 - Sometimes using season-long stats is better. Bigger sample size. But sometimes it isn't, because teams change during the season. Here are some second half team stats that listeners may find interesting. After all, if we are going to stream down the stretch, we need to know what each team looks like right now. 25:45 - Houston is 24th in runs scored. Cleveland is 20th Boston is 3rd. 30:45 - KC is 2nd. 35:40 - Diamondbacks lead MLB in runs scored 38:00 - The Rays are 29th in runs scored but first in steals! 40:00 - Tampa is first in ERA. Detroit is 6th. Oakland is 10th. Boston is 29th. Baltimore is 23rd. 44:15 - Meanwhile, not only as the Astros and Braves not scoring, but they are also have the bottom of the league in steals. Jim is back today, joining the podcast from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Today, Jim and Greg dissect Biden's angry & often false speech, the Democrats running way behind schedule at the convention, & Jill Biden and Nancy Pelosi offering very different explanations for why Biden abandoned his re-election bid.First, they break down Biden's long, loud speech that was full of debunked accusations and major distortions about his record. From his performance on border security to COVID & schools to job creation, Biden played fast & loose with the truth and, of course, had more than a few moments of mangling his words.Next, they're stunned at how badly run the first night of the DNC was. Jim explains what a hassle it was for media and delegates to get into the arena. And then, Democrats scheduled a bunch of barely known figures to speak past the prime time window. Did Democrats intentionally shove Joe to a time the viewership would be dwindling? Finally, they get a kick out of the very different explanations given last night for why Biden dropped his re-election bid, with First Lady Jill Biden stating that Joe made the decision after looking "deep into his soul" and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi admitting she "did what I had to do" but insisting that Joe made his own decision.

This week, we find out about a seemingly mild mannered, and upstanding NBA 3 point specialist. He was raised with military precision, and won't allow his emotions to overtake him. Even when he's 9, and his father dies. He does let his emotions take over, at least a couple times, when he's arrested for hitting his wife, in addition to being one of the worst drivers that has ever gotten behind the wheel. Plus, his middle name is one for the books!!Don't shed a tear, as a 9 year old, with a dead dad, tell people that you'e better than Michael Jordan, in the late 80s, and drive your car across several lanes of freeway, while insisting you're not drunk with Dale Ellis!!Check us out, every Tuesday! We will continue to bring you the biggest idiots in sports history!!
