Garrett Dornfeld reached out to The Pursuit on Instagram a few months ago wanting to share his knowledge and experience on the show. Garrett and I got in touch a few days later and he shared how he goes about his daily life. Garrett grew up in a small town of 1300 people in Eastern Washington. He graduated high school and moved to Portland, Oregon to attend George Fox University. Within his time at George Fox, Garrett struggled to identify what he would do after college. While in school, he worked for valet service, parking expensive cars at a high-end hotel. Garrett would ask these wealthy people what they did and the main answers he'd hear were Finance, Real Estate, Investment Banking. Garrett discovered his passion for Finance through working this minimum wage job and worked for Kaiser Permanente after graduating. After working 50-60 hour weeks at Kaiser, Garrett soon realized that he'd have to reprioritize his priorities and started snowboarding in his free time. In this episode Garrett discusses the challenges he faced determining his major in college, doing something when you don't know what you're doing, and provides his advice on how to find a better work-life balance. During my time in Italy, I was fortunate enough to meet Claudia Fraschini, an incredible Italian chef. Claudia started Cookin Factory, a cooking school, where she teaches professionals and students how to work as a team in the kitchen. Before leaving for Europe, I enrolled in a cooking course not knowing what to expect. My expectations were blown away. Throughout the semester, we had four ‘classes' where we prepared risotto, pizza, pasta, and a variety of Northern Italian cuisine. Claudia truly opened my eyes to a new world of cooking and enjoying meals with good company! The biggest takeaway I got from Claudia's Cookin Factory was to put love, passion, and energy into everything I do. In this episode, we learn how Claudia started her career as a chef, the importance of less is more, and discuss traditional Italian cuisine. I'm honored to have Claudia on the show and hope you all enjoy her experiences and advice. Sam Fraley is a long snapper for Temple University's D1 football team. Football has been a huge part of Sam's life. A native-Texan, Sam moved to California and started playing football from a young age. After playing four years of high school football, Sam was preparing to move on to a new chapter in his life at UT Austin. A week before high school graduation, Sam went to the hospital and had been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre, a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. Over the next six months, Sam spent day after day in the hospital and physical therapy. He relearned how to stand up, walk, and go about daily life. Sam enrolled at the local community college and started practicing with the football team again. He quickly went from relearning how to walk to playing on the field again, something his doctors never imagined. After two years at his local community college, Sam was recruited to play for Temple University where he currently resides. This is one of the most inspirational recovery stories I've ever heard and am honored to share it with you all. In this episode, Sam breaks down his recovery over the past three years and describes his admirable mindset throughout the entire process. We hope you are inspired by Sam's story!
