It's Tuesday afternoon and we're only a few hours away from the Edmonton Oilers taking on the Utah Hockey Club, which meant there was plenty to talk about on today's podcast. In today's show, we covered the Oilers' modest win streak, Leon Draisaitl's dominance, new line combinations, and much more.We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the power play and whether it's time for Kris Knoblauch to make some changes with his personnel. As you'll hear, the boys aren't opposed to making player changes, but if Knobby doesn't want to do that, he needs more than one player shooting the puck. Despite having a laundry list of quality shooters on PP1, there are only a couple of players who are willing to fire the puck. From there, we looked back at the Oilers' successful weekend in New York and how crucial it was that they beat both the Islanders and Rangers to wrap up their road trip. For a team that seems to be battling confidence right now, securing those four points at the end of the trip was crucial, especially with the way the L.A. Kings have really started to heat up over the last few weeks. It's amazing what a bad two-week stretch of hockey can do for the standings, right? We also touched on the incredible run Leon Draisaitl is on right now and how his 18-game point streak is not only the longest in the NHL this season but the longest of his career. No matter how well or poorly the team has played this season, the one constant has been Draisaitl's dominance on a nightly basis. In even better news, it looks like Connor McDavid is also starting to heat up after sniping a beautiful shot past Igor Shesterkin on Sunday at Madison Square Garden. Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with a random collection of topics, including some betting talk ahead of Tuesday's matchup vs. Utah, what the Oilers need to do on their home stand, and much more. Needless to say, the guys always have plenty to talk about when the Oilers are battling to get back to the consistency that saw them be one of the best teams in the NHL for a 30-game stretch.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!

BYU and SLC anti-vice. We discuss the history of Charles A. Callis, his career in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and politics, and his final assignment before death, creating a sexual purity surveillance and counseling/therapy program for Mormons in the 40s. After his death, Spencer W. Kimball took the reins and vastly expanded the reach and purposes of the program, resulting in The Miracle of Forgiveness. Cleon Skousen was running raids on gay clubs and anybody else seen as commie enemies of god's country. The systems they created have adapted, evolved, and conformed to the times, but never gone away, as evidenced by the recent SL Tribue piece about BYU's retrenchment and culture of fear. Then we chat about Minority report, a Tom Cruise sci-fi flick with surprisingly profound concepts. We wrap with happy news about the first openly transgender congressperson in American history.   Show Notes:  https://mormonstudies.as.virginia.edu/gay-rights-and-mormonism/ https://mormonstudies.as.virginia.edu/gay-rights-and-mormonism/05-the-miracle-of-forgiveness/ https://mormonstudies.as.virginia.edu/gay-rights-and-mormonism/16-the-cure-2-0/ https://mormonstudies.as.virginia.edu/gay-rights-and-mormonism/07-salt-lake-city-gay-scene/ https://archive.org/details/spencerwkimballt00kimb/page/271/mode/2up?view=theater https://ourphoenixfoundation.org/includes/about.php https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evergreen_International https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/topics/gay/individuals?lang=eng https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/topics/transgender/understanding?lang=eng https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2025/01/05/byu-blue-why-these-are-dark-days/ https://fairnessforall.org/the-utah-compromise/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Cleon_Skousen https://police.slc.gov/about/history/ https://lris.com/recent-developments/2012/05/salt-lake-city-vice-squad-disbanded/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_E._Talmage https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reed_Smoot_hearings https://prophetsseersandrevelators.wordpress.com/2021/10/31/the-political-manifesto/ https://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/digital/collection/DE2/id/201100 https://news.google.com.au/newspapers?nid=Aul-kAQHnToC&dat=18961109&printsec=frontpage&hl=en https://www.uen.org/utah_history_encyclopedia/e/ELECTIONS.shtml https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Party_(Utah) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1896_United_States_presidential_election_in_Utah https://archive.org/details/improvementera3707unse/page/434/mode/2up?view=theater https://archiveviewer.org/collections/en/improvement-era#1934 https://mormonstudies.as.virginia.edu/david-o-mckay-diary-excerpts/w-cleon-skousen/ https://www.qsaltlake.com/news/2009/09/28/the-oppressive-50s/ http://www.nomorestrangers.org/timeline-of-mormon-thinking-about-homosexuality/ http://www.elisarolle.com/queerplaces/fghij/Jack%20Pembroke.html https://www.glapn.org/sodomylaws/sensibilities/utah.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBTQ_rights_in_Utah#Conversion_therapy https://books.google.com/books?id=rlC1DgAAQBAJ&pg=PP1#v=onepage&q&f=false https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Brigham_Young_University_LGBTQ_history https://web.archive.org/web/20100122080551/http://www.affirmation.org/memorial/joseph_fielding_smith.shtml https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/1981/04/elder-charles-a-callis-twentieth-century-missionary?lang=eng https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Pack https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_A._Callis https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2001/04/them-that-honour-me-i-will-honour?lang=eng https://thesingleleaf.com/tag/charles-albert-callis/ https://rsc.byu.edu/prophets-apostles-last-dispensation/charles-albert-callis https://catalog.churchofjesuschrist.org/assets/2d1fb5a0-211a-4908-baca-5e3dd9e145eb/0/178?lang=eng https://history.churchofjesuschrist.org/chd/individual/charles-albert-callis-1866?lang=eng Article Shannon brought up: The Role of the LDS Church in Utah Politics: An Insider's Look  https://www.mrm.org/utah-politics    MOGP: Minority Report: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181689/?ref_=tttrv  Where it's streaming: https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/minority-report    Happy News: https://apnews.com/article/sarah-mcbride-congress-transgender-lgbtq-delaware-9cce7f778e6b57dfdb08986d7410404e?taid=677918364fe1660001b83485&utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&utm_medium=AP&utm_source=Twitter   Email: glassboxpodcast@gmail.com  Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/GlassBoxPod  Patreon page for documentary: https://www.patreon.com/SeerStonedProductions Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/glassboxpodcast Twitter: https://twitter.com/GlassBoxPod  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/glassboxpodcast/  Merch store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/exmoapparel/shop Or find the merch store by clicking on “Store” here: https://glassboxpodcast.com/index.html One time Paypal donation: bryceblankenagel@gmail.com  Venmo: Shannon-Grover-10

It's the Friday afternoon after a big Oilers win, which meant the vibes were excellent on the second episode of Oilersnation Radio of the week. We kicked off Friday's episode of the podcast with a delicious debate about the Oilers' power play and, specifically, whether or not Kris Knoblauch should make any changes to the PP1. Even though the power play is struggling so far, it's also very early to make changes to a line that has been one of the best the league has ever seen in years. Looking back at the last two games, we dove into the Oilers' first two victories of the year and how the win over Philly prevented Tyler from having to eat cat food again. Yet, despite talking about the game for 30 seconds, the conversation quickly fell off the rails with a way-too-early debate about Warren Foegele vs. Viktor Arvidsson. Changing gears entirely, we looked at the Oilers' willingness to drop the mitts over the last two games and how those fights sparked the team in a very real way. That's not to suggest that fighting is the key to success in the NHL — no one is saying that — but it's hard to ignore the impact those three scraps had on the team at the moment. Returning to last night's win over the Predators, we spent a few minutes talking about Nashville's struggles to start their season. Does it make sense that a team with so many new players should be afforded some extra time for everyone to get comfortable, or are they simply underperforming where they should be? Finally, we wrapped the podcast up by answering your questions with another round of Ask the Idiots before diving into Hot and Cold Performers to recap everything that's happened over the last seven days. Needless to say, this week's episode had plenty of hockey talk that we've had in a while, and it feels good to know that the NHL is back in full swing.

Matt and Blake discuss the Canucks' three-game skid, whether the game in Seattle is must-win, the Western and Pacific standings and what could happen with another loss, where the Kraken rivalry stands, Arshdeep Bains' promotion to J.T. Miller's line, the changes to PP1, Pius Suter on the Teddy Blueger line, the roster moves with Dakota Joshua, Carson Soucy and Jett Woo, the dads' trip, and two Canucks prospects making Craig Button's list of Top 50. Brenton Demko, father of Canucks goalie Thatcher, joins to tell us about the dads' trip. He talks about the activities they've had, how they watch the game in the suite, the two brothers who are on the trip, the support of Kuldip Bains as he watched his son make his NHL debut, and the difference this year with a healthy Thatcher, and what home playoff games at Rogers Arena will be like. Frank Corrado says he can take your Twitter comments, just don't slide into his LinkedIn DMs and gripe. Frank talks about moral victories, tells dad trip stories, comments on Bains' NHL debut, a "must-win" game vs Seattle, the plight of the Penguins prior to the trade deadline and if he could ever see Sidney Crosby playing anywhere but Pittsburgh. Rob Williams talks jerseys with us. Will the Canucks wear the black Skate jerseys in the playoffs? There is a precedent of changing jerseys in the playoffs. Rob takes the market's temperature after three losses, and comments on Bains' rise to the NHL from Surrey. Presented by Applewood Auto Group.
