In this special International Men's Day episode, Work with Purpose host David Pembroke, Founder and CEO of contentgroup, brings together two senior public sector leaders to explore what male role modelling looks like in practice, not in theory.Deputy Secretary David Mackay (Regions, Cities and Territories, Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts) and Michael Pohl (National Manager for Smart Centres across Regional NSW and the ACT at Services Australia) share candid reflections on leadership, identity, caregiving, cultural background, and the real pressures of balancing demanding roles with busy family lives.Listeners will hear lived experience, practical behaviours, First Nations perspectives, and personal stories that illuminate the difference male leaders can make in shaping respectful, healthy public sector workplaces.Key TipsPeople remember how leaders make them feel: small moments of validation or dismissal shape workplace culture more powerfully than formal feedbackLead with questions, not answers: curiosity and humility help unlock team insight, build trust, and create stronger decisionsNormalise shared caregiving: taking parental leave and protecting family time strengthens leaders and helps shift outdated gender normsBe honest about the chaos: vulnerability creates psychological safety and helps teams feel understood and supported Show Notes Coro Canberra (David Mackay's choir)Hartley Cycle Challenge (Michael's charity ride) Hosted on Acast. Dante Ollivierre sees stories everywhere. On the streets of Kingstown, in the quiet corners of St Vincent and the Grenadines, in the faces of people who carry their histories with pride. He is a director and creative director who listens closely, then shapes what he hears into images that breathe. His early training at Saint Vincent Community College helped sharpen his eye, but his instinct for truth is entirely his own. As a multidisciplinary storyteller, Dante pursues the kind of honesty that cannot be staged. He works to draw out raw performances, the kind that linger long after the screen fades to black. His background in documentary and corporate film production gives him a steady hand, yet his heart stays open to surprise. Each project becomes a search for a moment when real life steps into the frame. That dedication has carried him into new territory as an emerging filmmaker. Dante has led the production of documentaries and corporate films for the French Public Agency for International Technical Cooperation, working within the Expertise France program for the Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories. His repertoire reaches across documentary films, music videos, and commercials, where he shifts with ease between bright aspirational energy and moody dramatic tension. Whatever the tone, he brings a sense of intention that holds the work together. As Founder & Creative Director of Offhand, Dante continues to expand his voice. His recent project, Bush Medicine: Stories that Remember the Land, invites listeners and viewers into the deep memory of place, showing how art can reconnect people to what sustains them. The Visual Intonation Podcast follows this journey, exploring how Dante builds meaning from light, sound, and human connection. Each episode becomes a lesson in how a filmmaker learns to see. Dante Ollivierre's Socials: Source: Instagram Danté (@danteollivierre) • Instagram photos and videos  Source: Vimeo Dante Ollivierre - Vimeo  Support the showVisual Intonation Website: https://www.visualintonations.com/Visual Intonation Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/visualintonation/Vante Gregory's Website: vantegregory.comVante Gregory's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/directedbyvante/ To support me on Patreon (thank you): patreon.com/visualintonations Tiktok: www.tiktok.com/@visualintonation Tiktok: www.tiktok.com/@directedbyvante

Navigating violence: five insights to strengthen humanitarian action in contested territories

More than 200 million people live today in contested territories – places where the authority of the state is challenged outright and armed groups exercise full or fluid control. This number has risen by 30 million since 2021. These are not distant statistics; each figure represents a person living in the shadow of competing powers, making difficult choices in an almost impossible environment. How do people navigate the presence of multiple, often competing, armed actors? Is dignity found in defiance, or safety in uneasy compliance? How do families secure food, water or medical care when neither the state nor armed groups are able or willing to provide basic services? And, crucially, what can humanitarian actors do to better protect and assist those caught in these fractured landscapes? In this post, and drawing on recently published research in Cameroon, Iraq and the Philippines, Arjun Claire, Senior Policy Adviser at the ICRC, and Matthew Bamber-Zryd, the ICRC's Adviser on Armed Groups, offer five insights to help strengthen humanitarian responses in contested territories – insights rooted in the lived realities of the people who navigate them every day.

Human stories at the heart of every territory.Métamorphoses Urbaines (literally Urban Metamorphoses) is more than an urban planning agency — it's a collective exploring how cities can change when people are placed at the heart of every decision. Founded in 2024 by Laurent Pinon, the agency brings together architects, urban planners, engineers, and geographers with one shared belief: that the future of territories is written with their inhabitants. From relocating the village of Miquelon, threatened by rising seas, to reimagining the Chaudron neighborhood in Réunion Island, Métamorphoses Urbaines turns climate challenges and social realities into opportunities for new ways of living. With over 80 ongoing projects in France, overseas territories, and Belgium, the agency proves that urbanism is not just about plans and numbers, but about collective stories, resilience, and shared futures. With the voice of Esther GreslinAudio production comdarchipodcastImage teaser © Métamorphose Urbaine___If you like the podcast do not hesitate:. to subscribe so you don't miss the next episodes,. to leave us stars and a comment :-),. to follow us on Instagram @comdarchipodcast to find beautiful images, always chosen with care, so as to enrich your view on the subject.Nice week to all of you ! Noncontiguous states and territories are disproportionally harmed by the Jones Act's restrictions on shipping competition. Rooted in 18th-century protectionism, the law significantly increases the cost of water transportation for these shipping-dependent parts of the country when trading with each other and the US mainland. Beyond these economic costs, the Jones Act has also proven to be ineffective in meeting the country's national security needs amidst a collapse in shipbuilding, a declining fleet, and a shortage of mariners. There is a growing and bipartisan recognition among policymakers that an overhaul of US maritime policy is sorely needed to meet the country's economic and national security needs. This policy forum will feature Representative Ed Case (D‑HI) and Representative James Moylan (R‑GU) along with the Cato Institute's Colin Grabow to discuss the Jones Act's broader economic costs, national security implications, and possible reforms. FIDF CEO Nadav Padan is joined by LTC Yotam Shefer, Head of International Relations Branch for CogAT (Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories), a unit within the Israeli Defense Ministry and IDF, responsible for civil and humanitarian coordination in Gaza, the West Bank, and surrounding areas. He explains that CogAT plays a central role in facilitating humanitarian aid into Gaza, coordinating with over 20 UN agencies, dozens of NGOs, and local Palestinian entities, despite the challenges of operating in an active combat zone. Schaefer rejects claims of famine and starvation in Gaza, asserting that aid continues to flow—300 to 350 trucks daily—and that images circulated as evidence of starvation are often misrepresented cases of pre-existing medical conditions. He criticizes the UN and other reports for relying on what he considers unreliable or Hamas-affiliated sources, while stating that CogAT maintains independent assessments and coordination on the ground. He emphasizes that Israel did not seek this war, citing previous efforts to improve Gaza's economy and infrastructure. Evacuations of civilians from combat zones are conducted with prior notice and alternative shelters, including field hospitals. Finally, he stresses that the humanitarian effort is both a moral and strategic interest for Israel, and that it continues despite immense operational complexity.Donate NOW at FIDF.org for the fastest and most direct way to give IDF Soldiers what they need most. 100% of your contribution will go to meet their emergency humanitarian needs.

In this episode, I am joined by the eminent historian of science and religion, Peter Harrison. We examine how we've inherited a distorted narrative about the relationship between science and religion. Rather than the conflict narrative we're accustomed to, Harrison reveals that science and religion are not historical foes, and that modern Western sciences are actually built on theological assumptions. The real game-changer comes from tracing how Protestant reforms—notably the attack on allegorical readings of scripture and the demand for each individual to justify their belief— fundamentally transformed how we read both Scripture and nature, eventually leading to our impoverished, utilitarian view of the natural world. Harrison shows how concepts we think are timeless - like "belief," "supernatural," and even "religion" itself - are modern inventions with specific histories, and how understanding these genealogies can help us see that many of our contemporary problems in science-religion dialogue are artifacts of the categories themselves rather than real conflicts in the world. The conversation ultimately suggests that by understanding how we arrived at our current conceptual frameworks, we might find new ways forward that don't trap us in the either/or thinking that dominates so much of contemporary debate. Dr. Peter Harrison is a former Andreas Idreos Professor of Science and Religion in the University of Oxford, and Emeritus Professor of the History of Science at the University of Queensland, where he was also an Australian Laureate fellow and Founding Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH). His many celebrated books include The Fall of Man and the Foundations of Science, The Cambridge Companion to Science and Religion, The Territories of Science and Religion, & his newest book Some New World: Myths of Supernatural Belief in a Secular Age. On this explosive episode of The Tara Show, Tara dives into a massive mental health survey of 60,000 Americans revealing that self-identified liberals report sky-high rates of mental health issues—especially among women—while conservatives report overwhelmingly positive mental well-being. Tara connects this data to the rage-based politics of the left, arguing that today's Democrat Party weaponizes victimhood and anger for power. She warns that liberal strongholds like New York City are devolving into “post-American territories,” as radical socialist candidates gain ground and lawlessness becomes policy. From Vice Mayor Cynthia Gonzalez urging gangs to fight ICE, to New York voters embracing socialism, Tara lays out how Marxist tactics, institutional breakdown, and selective law enforcement are reshaping America in real time. This isn't just a political shift—it's a cultural revolution.

Growing up between Nunavut, Nova Scotia, and the Northwest Territories, Braden always remained immersed in his culture even as he encountered mental health and substance use challenges. In 2022 Braden decided to take an active role in this conversation on social media. He has since immersed himself in content creation by sharing language, traditional food, and his sobriety journey. In fall 2024, he published his first book, A Guide to Sobriety: 10 Gentle Reminders, where he shares how specific practices helped transform his own life, encouraging readers to explore what may work for them—whether from his experience or their own. Now a sought-after keynote speaker at various venues across Canada, Braden never misses an opportunity to share insights about the realities of Northern living, sobriety, healing, and Inuit culture.   Braden's recent endeavors include winning the 2024 Indspire Inuit Youth of the Year award, facilitating workshops in community alongside his mother, Hovak Johnston, which highlight their respective healing journeys. He also co-produced and hosted Local Lives, a 2023 television series through StoryHive which provided an Indigenous lens on the experiences of Indigenous small business owners, Knowledge Keepers, artists, and activists in Treaty 6 and 7 Territories.
