Send us a textWelcome back everyone to the conclusion of my conversation with the amazing Nick Chiarkas! I was so excited about this interview I didn't want you guys to wait for next Sunday! I really enjoyed talking to Nick and I think you guys are going to feel the same about this episode.  Nick grew up in the Al Smith housing projects on Manhattan's Lower East Side. When he was in the fourth grade, his mother was told by the principal of PS-1 that "Nick was unlikely ever to complete high school, so you must steer him toward a simple and secure vocation." Instead, Nick became a writer, with a few stops along the way: a U.S. Army Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division serving in the Viet Nam war, a New York City Police Officer, Deputy Chief Counsel to the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, Deputy Chief Counsel for the President's Commission on Organized Crime; Chief Counsel for the USATBCB; and the Director of the Wisconsin State Public Defender Agency. On the way, he picked up a Doctorate from Columbia University, a Law Degree from Temple University, and was a Pickett Fellow at Harvard. Not bad for a guy whose principal told his parents that he wouldn't amount to much.I found this interview to be so captivating and entertaining. I didn't want it to end. I hope you guys feel the same. Please enjoy my conversation with Nick.In today's episode we discuss:.·      Why Nick left the NYPD after only seven years on the job. ·      His experience of being sent to the Woodstock music festival as security and meeting some of the musicians, including Jimi Hendrix.·      His part in the movie, The Anderson Tapes (Starring Sean Connery, Diane Cannon, and Christopher Walken). ·      How Nick wound up being the Deputy Chief Counsel to the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations and the Deputy Chief Counsel for the President's Commission on Organized Crime.·      His awkward first meeting with President Reagan.· His becoming the director of the Wisconsin State Public Defender Agency and how he was not welcomed with open arms because him being a former police officer. ·      The changes he instituted in the public defender's office.·      His books, Weepers and Nunzio's Way. All of this and more on today's episode of the Cops and Writers podcast.Check out Nick's Amazon Author page!Check out the new Cops and Writers YouTube channel!Check out my newest book, The Good Collar (Michael Quinn Vigilante Justice Series Book 1)!!!!!Enjoy the Cops and Writers book series. Please visit the Cops and Writers website. What would you do if you lost the one you loved the most? While some law students may believe that rushing through their degree offers a competitive advantage, this might not be true. Instead, taking a more measured approach to your studies can be beneficial. In this episode of The Protégé Podcast, host Grace Robbie speaks with Charlotte Carles, a young ambassador for UNICEF Australia and the founder of Gen Z Abroad, about her initial ambition to pursue a legal career, how her deep dive into the mental health challenges facing law students sparked her passion for advocating for a slower approach to completing a law degree, what this approach looks like in practice, and how this mindset has enabled her to undertake a traineeship with UNESCO in Jakarta and an international internship in Tahiti. Carles discusses how taking a more measured approach can significantly enhance a student's professional development, identifies the valuable skills they can gain that they wouldn't from the classroom, outlines the personal benefits of slowing down, including improved wellbeing and the opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends, explores how this approach can better position students for a smoother transition into full-time legal practice, examines whether universities should actively encourage this measured approach, and outlines strategies for law students interested in implementing this approach in their academic journey.

"Proven" While many accomplished individuals have accredited their success to that of pulling up their own bootstraps, that is not the case for Chimeaka White. Looking from the outside, it may appear that her ascension to becoming a prominent attorney came about from her following the traditional path that most lawyers do. Yet, that is far from Chimeaka's reality. Her story expresses her faith in God, love and support from her family and friends, and an unwavering determination to win. More than anything, Chimeaka's story is that of someone who is “Proven”. Chimeaka has proven not only to others but even to herself that regardless of what circumstances she may face, regardless of what life throws at her, nothing will stop her from reaching her goals. Attorney Chimeaka White of Greensboro, NC, is the mother of two amazing adults, Harmony and Sincere. Chimeaka is a graduate of James B. Dudley High School. She also graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry. She also received a Law Degree from North Carolina Central University. Today, she owns The White Law Firm, PLLC, located in High Point, NC, the first black female-owned and operated personal injury law firm in the Triad area. Her motto is “Justice4Pain”. Chimeaka comes from a long list of strong women. She says that her success can be attributed to several key factors, including her upbringing, which instilled strong values in her, and the mentorship I received throughout her career. “I am inspired by my maternal great-grandmother, Evelyn Watson, who taught me the power of love and patience. She lived slowly and simply. My maternal grandmother, Margaret Hardy (Momo) taught me the importance of cultivating a spiritual practice. She has a strong relationship with God and taught me how to pray deep, strong prayers. My paternal grandmother, Lois White (Mama White), taught me not to have anything that I don't plan on using. When you bring one thing into your house, remove three things from your house.” It should come as no surprise that Chimeaka is an attorney. As a child, she wanted to become a prosecutor. While attending NC A&T, she thought about pursuing a career as a dentist. Prior to law school, she worked as a paralegal at a personal injury law firm.  She worked alongside experienced paralegal Teresa Burney, who taught her how to manage car accident cases from the intake process to closing the file. This is where she gained her passion for the law.  Chimeaka says she made the decision to become an attorney because she genuinely loves to help people. “After being bullied in middle school, I learned how to stand up for myself and others.   I know how it feels to be voiceless, to endure pain due to being afraid of standing up for yourself. This is why I became an attorney to fight for the rights of others. I do not allow people to be taken advantage of. I am a voice for the people,” she says." Attorney Chimeaka L. There has been talk of guaranteed income in the age of AI and Mitch suggests the rollout of this program should target Schizophrenics and Schizoaffectives first. Some of them have been contacted and targeted by this technology and it makes sense to give them a decent income first. Mitch suggests this could happen through a tax on any company that uses AI. This tax would be used to build a worldwide grievance reporting system and any additional funds would go toward a guaranteed income fund. Companies can avoid or reduce the tax by letting Mitch audit their company each year to ensure there is equal pay for equal work. Mitch closes with an argument he would use as a lawyer. No company nor government can enjoy a statute of limitations preventing lawsuits in the age of supercomputers. In other words since the Watson Supercomputer has been in existence all statute of limitations have been extended to this date. All people like Mitch that have been tased, forcefully injected, and placed in solitary confinement should be able to seek damages against the City, County, and State that was responsible for this treatment. These governments collect property tax but fail to protect our properties from being inundated by wireless waves. Mitch argues that the City of Pittsburgh, County of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania could grant him the budget he needs to conduct is national investigation in return for waiving some rights to seek damages from them in regards to his "treatment".Support the Show.

In his first Inaugural Address, President Ronald Reagan reminded the country that "Freedom is a fragile thing and it's never more than one generation away from extinction." In today's episode of The Narrative podcast, Congressman Jim Jordan stepped out of a Congressional Committee hearing for a quick discussion with Center for Christian Virtue (CCV) President Aaron Baer and Policy Director David Mahan about how federal agencies have been turned against the people they were created to serve and what Congress is doing to hold the executive branch accountable by investigating political lawfare used by agencies like the Department of Justice (DOJ). Before the conversation, Aaron and David look at how sports betting has negatively impacted culture and poisoned the way that many of Ohio's youth interact with sports. They also review the need for Christians to stand firmly on the truth of Scripture during Pride Month and not to get caught up in the cultural moment. More about Congressman Jim Jordan Jim Jordan was raised in Champaign County, Ohio, graduated from Graham High School in 1982, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin. He later earned a Master's degree in Education from the Ohio State University and a Law Degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Jordan is a fiscal conservative who believes that families and taxpayers, rather than government, know best how to make decisions with their money. Throughout his career, Jim Jordan has led the fight against tax hikes, including those proposed by his own political party. He believes that cutting taxes and letting families keep more of what they earn helps build strong communities and a vibrant economy. Jordan has been an advocate of the taxpayer, looking for waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government. He serves as the Chairman on the House Judiciary Committee and serves on the House Oversight Committee.

In the latest installment of MSP Business School, Brian Doyle hosts an insightful conversation with compliance experts Bo Bito and Angelika Mayen from Render Compliance. The episode zeroes in on the increasingly critical subject of SOC 2 compliance for Managed Service Providers (MSPs), delving into the nuts and bolts of the process and offering pearls of wisdom for businesses considering the SOC 2 journey. The discussion kicks off with a detailed expedition into the SOC 2 process, demystifying the steps from an MSP's standpoint. Bo and Angelica highlight the importance of involving experienced personnel or consultants early on and underscore the value of engaging with auditors in the initial stages. Offering a rare peak behind the SOC 2 curtain, they detail the differences between SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 reports, explaining the significance of each type in establishing and demonstrating a company's commitment to security and compliance. Key Takeaways: MSPs looking to obtain SOC 2 compliance should start by evaluating in-house expertise, consider working with consultants, and connect with auditors early in the process. SOC 2 Type 1 vs. Type 2: Type 1 evaluates the design of controls at a point in time, while Type 2 assesses how those controls operate over a period. Engaging with technology and tools such as compliance platforms can streamline the SOC 2 process by organizing tasks and centralizing evidence collection. Timeline and cost: A typical SOC 2 engagement may span nine weeks, with costs starting from $16,000 up to $40,000, depending on various factors like business size and control complexity.

Today I have a poignant conversation with Abby Dart... a suicide widow of 19 years. Her husband Steve died by suicide in 2004 when her 5 children were only 8,10, 12, 13 & 17 (now, 26,29,31,32, & 36 to put it in perspective). Because Steve was in the public eye (in politics) and they had to figure out to grieve publicly while trying to find private time as a family. We pack a LOT into our time together and this was a very enlightening chat."I wonder if I'm just still trying to find myself. Because I feel I was robbed of my future, I was, with my husband... And I never really figured it out...So no, I never remarried. Aman acknowledges that finding time for work and personal life can be challenging, especially for an actively practicing lawyer. Listen as Aman explains why she advocates for lawyers and their mental health and why she is creating an Empire of Freedom.Aman Costigan emphasizes the importance of integrating yoga and wellness practices into daily life beyond just the confines of a yoga mat. Aman acknowledges that lawyers constantly move, do, and multitask and seldom have the time or space for a traditional yoga practice. Therefore, Aman started offering easy yoga breathing techniques and other activities that can be done anytime and anywhere. The goal is to make yoga accessible and adaptable to fit into busy lifestyles through her business, Beyond Yoga for Lawyers. Additionally, Aman Costigan mentions that she's given multiple speeches about work-life balance but questions whether the term "balance" is appropriate. Life is about prioritizing! Specifically, finding ways to practice law while pursuing personal desires and goals. Instead of trying to escape from the demands of a legal career, Aman encourages individuals to take control of their lives and improve their lives by prioritizing.Since creating Beyond Yoga for Lawyers, Aman has added pillars to their wellness practices, building their "empire of freedom." She has been invited to speak at women's lawyers groups, where Aman shares her journey and provides guidance on achieving personal and professional fulfillment. During these talks, Aman Costigan also incorporates easy yoga breathing and other activities to provide practical tools for well-being. It is evident that Aman has incorporated yoga into every aspect of her life because even her husband, Tom, practiced yoga with her. Although the two no longer teach classes together, Aman relishes their time teaching and training other lawyers. Aman and Tom met in law school.Overall, the episode explores the concept of work-life balance and suggests the idea of work-life integration as a more suitable term. It highlights the challenges of balancing work and personal life but also emphasizes the importance of prioritizing personal interests and finding ways to integrate them into one's professional life.LISTEN TO LEARN How to build an empire of freedom The value of balancing work, family, and wellness How yoga helps lawyers break down mental health barriers WE ALSO DISCUSS How prioritizing allows you to pursue your passions beyond the law What it means to take control of your life Why you need a Quarterly Marriage Alignment Retreat ADVERTISER:Save time and create faster with KD Creative.
