Dave and Ethan finish their interview with Ludicris Lorri MacMillan (O'Grady) of The Dr. Demento Show. Lorri shares stories of when she dated Weird Al in 1980, including their adventures going to The Dr. Demento Show, recording The Weird Al Show on his college radio station, hi-jinx in and around San Luis Obispo, and seeing The Knack with Weird Al (and his special gift for the band).
Abby Landis is a recent Cal Poly graduate who's currently working for Adobe. I asked Abby to join us on The Pursuit to discuss her experience finding her community and purpose in college. After her first year of college, Abby decided to cave her path and pursue her passion for music. She joined KCPR, Cal Poly's radio station, where she became a DJ and worked with famous artists and musicians. In this episode, Abby reflects on her time in school and how she didn't want to fit the mold. She provides insight into learning how to fail fast, taking note of what brings you joy, and how she's incorporated habits in her daily life. Dave and Ethan celebrate the 40th anniversary of Weird Al's "Another One Rides the Bus" with guest Beefalo Bill Burk, who was on hand - and added miscellaneous insanities - on the day that legendary song was performed live for the first time on The Dr. Demento Show on September 14, 1980.Besides being a long-time Dr. Demento Show sidekick, Beefalo Bill and Al were Cal Poly classmates and both KCPR deejays. Bill is also an avid photographer, with one of his photographs appearing in Bermuda's book, Black & White & Weird All Over - The Lost Photographs of "Weird Al" Yankovic '83 – '86.
