Sarah is also a phenomenal athlete. As a junior, she ran Junior Olympic qualifying times in the 10,000m and had a promising future until a horrific illness left her bedridden for a very long time. Since recovering, she has learnt to ride a bike and has recently completed the epic Transcontinental Race (TCR) from Roubaix in Paris to Istanbul in Turkey. She covered 4,400km in 13 days over multiple mountain ranges, and with very little sleep. Her determination, passion and resilience shine through very strongly in this conversation – enjoy!

As a record breaking hurdler and sprinter who won an Olympic Gold medal in her sport, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has been trained to win. But when the losses do come, Sydney tries to use those moments to transform her heart and perspective, strengthening her resolve and trust that God will be there when it's time to cross the finish line.    Quotes “I ran my first race and I was so terrified to do it. But once I actually started and the gun went off, I just felt so free.” - Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone “I think every athlete trains to reach a certain goal, or point, or whatever it is that they've set their minds on—whether it be winning a medal at the Junior Olympics, the college National Championship, a gold medal at the Olympics, or the world record. I think when that's always your dream and aspiration for so long, that when it comes to fruition, it truly is just like a jaw-dropping moment.” - Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone “Being able to cross the line, and just know that the Lord was still with me, that He had a plan for my life, and as an athlete, you didn't win, but [you're] still intact… As hard of a time as that was, I'm grateful for it because I don't think I would have realized my need for God without it.” - Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone “I think being able to show that even in losses, I'm satisfied in the Lord and His plan for me is the best thing I could do because it shows people that I'm not relying on winning to be okay. And I think that honesty is actually the best way to share the gospel, because it shows that even someone who has world records and gold medals still needs the Lord.” - Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone “I can show up to the track every day and understand that this is a gift He's given me—that win, lose, or draw, it's an opportunity to glorify Him. My value is already secure in Christ, so there's no fear of not being enough and everything I need is found in Him.” - Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone   Guest's Links Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's website Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's Instagram Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's Facebook Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's Twitter   Resources Mentioned in This Episode Olympics   Connect with Sally Lloyd-Jones Jesus Storybook Bible Facebook Jesus Storybook Bible Instagram  Sally's website Sally's Facebook Sally's Instagram *Episode produced by Four Eyes Media*

They also talk about the upcoming Olympics and the athletes to watch. Kazunari shares his personal journey and the lessons he has learned about self-discovery and submitting to God's plan. The conversation explores the theme of submission to God and the transformation that comes from surrendering to His will. Kazunari and Tanaka discuss their personal experiences of realizing their need for God and how He has guided and transformed their lives. They emphasize the importance of patience, obedience, and allowing God to work in their lives. Kazunari shares his mission to care for the less desirable members of society, such as the homeless, widows, and children. The challenge they propose is to listen to the stories of those who are often overlooked and show them God's love.Takeaways: Coaching is not just about training athletes, but also teaching them life lessons. Being a coach requires humility and the ability to guide athletes without being in the driver's seat. The Junior Olympics is a significant milestone for young athletes, and it provides an opportunity for them to compete against strong competition. In track and field, anything can happen, and athletes with something to prove can surprise everyone. Personal growth and self-discovery are ongoing journeys, and it's important to learn from past mistakes and submit to God's plan. Submission to God and surrendering to His will leads to transformation and growth. Patience and obedience are key in allowing God to work in our lives. Caring for the less desirable members of society, such as the homeless, widows, and children, is a mission that reflects God's love. Listening to the stories of others, especially those who are often overlooked, can be a powerful way to show God's love and bring about change. A Fresh Story, season 2, episode 19 We chatted with viral gymnastics sensation Nia Dennis about her journey in gymnastics, and how one single second changed the rest of her life - and led her to many new Fresh Starts. Nia is incredibly wise, appreciative of her past, and passionate about learning new things (like the saxophone!), and excited for her future. We discussed her viral moment at The Met Gala, her fresh start in college, and how she pivoted her whole career at a young age. You will learn so much from Nia's wise words about self-talk and learning to love yourself, even when things are tricky in life. Viral gymnastics sensation, Nia Dennis aspires to inspire. Her debut on the 2021 Met Gala red carpet was a cultural moment! Flanked by the 30-person Brooklyn United marching band, while wearing a patriotic Stella McCartney for Adidas jumpsuit, Nia easily went from gymnastics routine to red carpet glam as she flipped and danced her way to the top of the famous steps! A member of the U.S. National Team from 2012-2016, Nia was a 2018 NCAA Gymnastics Champion and leading contender on the UCLA Women's Gymnastics team. “The Culture” was a recurring theme in the fun-filled floor routines of her college career, as she treated the gymnastics floor as her stage and the perfect place to showcase black excellence to the world. In February 2020, Nia tumbled and hip-hop danced to a Beyonce inspired “Homecoming” performance that highlighted majorette-style dancing typical of HBCUs, which resulted in millions of online views, becoming the #1 trending topic online, and landing Nia a guest spot on The Ellen Degeneres Show. In February 2021, another one of Nia's socially-justice filled routine also went viral, with a message of power and hope towards the push for equality that caught the attention of Michelle Obama, Vice President Kamala Harris and Janet Jackson, among others. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Nia grew up with Midwest values and a supportive family who encouraged her illustrious Junior Olympic and Elite gymnastics career. She sacrificed a traditional classroom experience and trained more than 30 hours per week to reach Elite status and compete internationally with the ultimate goal being the 2016 Olympics. But, with a torn Achilles months before the games, Nia learned invaluable lessons about overcoming obstacles, perseverance and creating new dreams. You can follow Nia on Instagram, TikTok, and her website.

After weeks of failed attempts, and 20 hours in to the final 26 hour piece of the climb, Jacqueline realizes that she's FINALLY going to reach the top of Mt. Aconcagua.  Tears of joy start welling up in her eyes as she thinks of what she's about to overcome. Then, in an instant, chaos hits and circumstances change. In her quest to achieve “The Explorer's Grand Slam” - when somebody reaches the North Pole, South Pole, and climbs the highest peak on all 7 continents - Jacqueline is learning that her physical, emotional, and spiritual limits are so much greater than she ever thought possible. Jacquline Kasen, creator of Get JacQd, Senior Director of Group Fitness at Anataomy (Miami, FL), Certified Coach, and mountaineer, has been immersed in the world of fitness from a young age.  From winning a Junior Olympic title to excelling as a collegiate athlete, and now cultivating an elite fitness experience for her audience, Jacqueline believes strongly that people are capable of so much more than they give themselves credit for.  And she's on a mission to prove that through her coaching and by the way she lives her own life.  In today's episode, we talk about her experience on Mt. Aconcagua, and what extreme circumstances can teach us about leadership and the perception of leadership.  More specifically, we speak on: The investment someone makes when they decide to commit to a climb (12:40) What good leadership looked like and the results of poor leadership in chaos (28:50) How empathy can negatively impact your effectiveness as a leader (54:20) How experiencing tragedy shows us who we are and what we truly stand for (59:25) You can connect with Jacqueline on her IG: @Kasenfitness.  She answers all her DMs, so don't hesitate to reach out if you want to learn more and/or work with her! SummaryWe've got plenty of opportunities in the world of sports today, thanks to an ever-increasing number of fan groups, and impressive public, private and government sector initiatives! But was it this way a decade or so ago?  You and I and my guest for today's episode would all agree that it wasn't, am I right? How then, did athletes and sportspersons back in the past make historic achievements? How did they get into a seemingly less lucrative career when they had other opportunities ahead of them? What lies at the backstage of their stories?  Stay tuned to clear the air and learn about it from Michelle Vittese, a 211-time international awardee in field hockey with an eight-year long career with the US women's national field hockey team! Michelle shares how she got into the sport and how, despite initially deciding to be a doctor, she made up her mind to go all-in on her passion, at a time when sports wasn't even considered a high-income or sustainable career. An ex-UVA grad, Michelle covers different aspects of her career and sports in general: from training in grueling three-a-day sessions, the current protocols in place for the health and well-being of student athletes, being part of a high-performance group during the Rio Olympics and how it inspired her to become a coach, the setup of Olympic villages, and mindset, motivation, and success tips for sportspersons and athletes, among other things! You'll also hear also about: ●      The process of representing the country in sports●      Michelle's experience in Junior Olympics and AAU competitions●      The Olympic experience, specifically from the perspective of an athlete who has attended multiple games (including the excitement of meeting famous people and experiencing everything the Olympics have to offer)●      The setup of the Olympic village and how the USOC creates an environment that caters to athletes' needs●      The importance of surrounding oneself with supportive and like-minded individuals to achieve their goals, particularly when pursuing an unconventional path. ●      How to stay committed to one's vision and purpose●      How to handle pushback well by trusting your knowledge and experience●      The importance of being open-minded and learning from others, including your student athletes as a coach.
