The idea of abusing God's grace is found in 2 Corinthians 6:1. The idea is that because God has reconciled us to Himself, and given us righteousness, we are not to take the grace of God in vain. Sweet Paul, sounds good, I won't... but what does that even mean? All in all, we think that it is treating God's love and forgiveness and the salvation he's given us lightly. The idea that sin doesn't need to be fought against cause "I'm forgiven" or that we can keep on sinning because we're in grace. Or, as Phil Hughes says: "for them to receive the grace of God in vain meant that their practice did not measure up to their profession as Christians, that their lives were so inconsistent as to constitute a denial of the logical implications of the gospel, namely, and in particular, that Christ died for them so that they might no longer live to themselves but to His glory” (218-19).” Here is a link to an article written by Sam Storms on the matter! https://www.samstorms.org/all-articles/post/receiving-the-grace-of-god-in-vain--2-cor--6:1-2- You are what you love: https://www.amazon.com/You-Are-What-Love-Spiritual/dp/158743380X Got any questions or topics you'd like to hear about? Furries are defined as "an enthusiast for animal characters with human characteristics, in particular a person who dresses up in costume as such a character or uses one as an avatar online." This seems harmless, however, when you dig into the history of Furries, look at Therians and Otherkin, it quickly becomes apparent that although not everything in the world of Furries is bad, there are some things we need to watch out for. We need to be thinking about this group of people more and more in today's culture because more and more kids are starting to take an interest in the Furry community. Furries may walk into our church, be your kids, or be friends with your kids and as Christians, we need to know to share the love of Jesus with them. Everyone agrees that struggles, going through hardship, suffering injustices, and even going through persecution is not something people want to happen to them. However, we know from the Bible that such things will happen, and Peter even goes so far as to say to not be surprised when these things happen! One question that we're looking at today is, "Do all struggles have sanctifying purposes or can some just lead to trauma with no redemption?" We need to address this question because how we think of this will affect how we endure and navigate struggles, trials, injustice, etc. We have a number of Bible verses we go through to examine this, as well as our own stories of how God has used our struggles for our growth! Cessationism is the belief that the gifts of the Spirit (prophecy, speaking in tongues, words of knowledge, and others) ceased when the Apostles died. The idea is that the sign gifts were given for a short time to confirm the message of the Gospel, but that they fizzled out after the 12 disciples passed away. Derry and I don't believe that this is the correct interpretation, nor that it's strongly backed by the Bible. However, we want to give it a fair chance, see what cessationist say and analyze their claims. Yes, these seasons can be confusing and even scary at times, but, they're completely normal. We think that there are two main reasons that dry seasons happen. 1, God may be using them to grow you in your longevity in faith and not be reliant on feelings, or 2, perhaps theres an area in your spiritual life that you've been slacking on and it's causing you some disconnection. Gnostic lies seem to get a lot of attention on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and pretty much every social media platform. They claim that people "left things out of the Bible" and that they're the source of how to find truth. The truth however, is as simple as they're making things up. All these texts that were left out of the Bible were left out for good reason - they're gnostic heresies or written too far away from the events of scripture to be relied upon. There's good real reason why Christians reject certain views, and it's not to keep control. Christians reject gnostic ideas because they don't align with truth and aren't why God revealed. Why does Jesus have to be God to pay for our sins? #234

This is a fun question to ponder that actually matters a ton. Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses don't believe that Jesus is God, but they do believe that He died for their sins. For us, there are two questions that are raised when hearing this: 1. Why do you even need Jesus to die for your sins if you can do good works to enter heaven? and 2. How can Jesus' sacrifice apply to humanity if He isn't divine? Ezekiel tells us that the righteousness of a righteous man will be upon himself. What we believe that means is that a person's righteousness can't be transported onto someone else. With this in mind, it shouldn't be possible that if Jesus was just a man, that his death would help us escape sin. It's possible that they would dismiss this verse and say that they read it differently, so we go into more philosophical arguments for it. There are some videos circulating around the internet claiming that "Jesus wasn't nice" and every so often these types of videos pop off. They tap into the part of a lot of men that feels aggressive and longs to be strong - which is good and we need to know that aggression innately isn't evil. But these takes often don't accurately express what maybe the communicator is trying to say. To say Jesus wasn't nice is like saying Jesus was an angry man. Both are wrong. Jesus is nice, yet he had times of appropriate anger. To be nice doesn't mean you're never bothered, or that you dismiss truth. But it seems, that's what people might have in mind when they make these videos. You can stand up for truth without compromising, confront evil, and be nice. They aren't exclusive to each other. Some would say that because we believe in a God we can't see and we exercise faith in the super natural every day that we're easily fooled into believing anything. I don' think that's the case. I think the reason Christians maybe believe in conspiracies more than non-Christians is because we believe in a very real Devil who seriously wants to destroy humanity, and he'll do anything he can to that end AND that people in the real world are following Him to see the same. Joey Dodson is a Christian author of a number of books, peer reviewed articles, and essays. He's a professor at Denver Seminary where he is also the Dr. Craig L. Blomberg Endowed Chair of New Testament which basically means he's super smart. Today Joey comes on to talk to us about his book "Conquerers, Not Captives" regarding Romans 7 and who the "wretch" is. Romans 7 is the famous passage where Paul says that the good he wants to do he doesn't do and the bad he doesn't want to do, he does. Many Christians including us at some point have looked to this verse to explain our struggle with sin. The problem though, as Joey and others have put forth, is that Romans 7 isn't a universal prescription of the Christian experience. It might not even be about Paul, or ANY Christian whatsoever actually. Joey believes Paul is talking about himself BEFORE he was a Christian because the surrounding passages say the EXACT opposite of "We are slave to sins." With this profound rereading of the text we realize that freedom is truly possible and that we can resist the enemy and we aren't doomed to repeat the same sins over and over and over! Enjoy! There seems to be a contradiction between Paul and James on how to be saved. James says faith without works is dead and Paul says that works can't save you. So, how do we as Christians understand this dilemma? Today we get into this question and provide clarity on how to understand this tension. Enjoy!
